After an Intertoto cup campaign that seems to have gone done well with fans and most players, things started to go go slightly awry last Saturday.
Robert Lee's testimonial game should have been a final outing for the lads
before the real Premiership business gets underway, a chance to show the
public progress had been made from the forgettable campaign of last season.
In the event it proved nothing of the sort.
Just over 18,000 turned up and paid the ludicrous price of £20. For that they were treated to a dismal 0-1 reverse.
Robson's injury list also lengthened: the absent Cort, Dyer and Shearer now joined by Speed and Ameobi.
Only the form of new boy Robert stopped this from being a totally wasted day. Let's hope he quickly proves his worth - it's about time we imported someone who was a success...speaking of which, Marcelino was booed on his return.
