Readers of the Observer this week were treated to a stunning piece of fiction penned by SkySports' Spanish football guru, Guillem Balague.

It revolved around the despicable persecution of an honest, hard-working
football genius who has been the victim of unspeakable cruelty and prejudice during his time at Newcastle.

The piece, very loosely based on a real life story, had a central character who went by the name of Marcelino....

At the other end of the spectrum, this weekend sees us pinning our hopes on two other more hard-working ex-Mags who could bring untold joy to Tyneside.

Warren Barton and Rob Lee line up at the Stadium of Plight with the chance of relegating the unwashed to their natural place of rest - Division One.

We've had a great season but if Derby beat Sunderland and Ipswich win at
Anfield, it won't be just icing on our cake, more like nectar from the Gods.
