We Said

Tommy Craig commented:

"Our general performance was very, very good. We played a lot of good football and scored some spectacular goals but we proceeded to then throw away the extra two points by bad defensive decisions.

"Stephen Brennan played the ball square across the 18-yard box and their player picked it up and that set them on the road.

"But we got two goals back before half-time. The first one was a terrific move down the right-hand side involving Darren Ambrose, Lewis Guy and James Milner, and culminated in Milner driving home off the post from 16 yards.

"And about 10 minutes from half-time we had a free-kick 35 yards out, which Ambrose crashed against the bar. There was a tussle and we were awarded another free-kick. This time Martin Brittain curled one of his usual free-kicks into the far corner.

"We were playing very well and leading 2-1. We continued to play well in the second half but about 15 minutes from time Jamie McClen tried a back header towards Tony Caig, which was always going to fall short.

"Andy O'Brien put the ball back to Tony and he kicked it against O'Brien and it rebounded into the net to make it 2-2."

"I was really pleased with the football we played and the attitude of the players. West Brom played very well too. It was a cracking game but individuals have got to look at themselves and how often we concede bad goals."

"Milner came off with 10 minutes to go but I was assured after the game it was a dead leg and nothing else. He should be back training in a couple of days."

Waffle

A last minute equaliser from Darren Moore denied United all three points at a damp Aggborough Stadium in Kidderminster on Monday night.

Tommy Craig's side had gone behind in the 19th minute of a thoroughly entertaining game when Ezekiel Tomlinson took advantage of a loose Stephen Brennan pass to fire past Caig from the edge of the United area.

But Newcastle equalised five minutes later when James Milner crashed the ball in off the upright after being teed up in the box by Lewis Guy.

Martin Brittain gave us the lead seven minutes before the break bending in a fine 20 yard free-kick, taken quickly after Darren Ambrose had thundered a 30-yard effort off the underside of the bar seconds earlier.

Back came the Baggies after a rain-soaked interval, with the lively Tomlinson forcing a save from Caig within a minute of the restart.

And only the intervention of Brennan on the goal line on 62 minutes prevented the Baggies from levelling through that man Tomlinson again.

However the equaliser did arrive, courtesy of a bizarre own goal on 76 minutes.

Andy O'Brien left a backpass to Tony Caig a little short and then slid to get an extra touch. Caig came out and was first to the ball, but succeeded only in hoofing it against the prone O'Brien.

The ball catapulted back past Caig into the empty net with the only Albion player in our half an interested bystander.

Guy Bates restored our lead with seven minutes remaining converting an Alan O'Brien cross, seconds after the winger had replaced a hobbling James Milner.

But just as the points seemed to be heading back to Tyneside, popular home defender Moore, aka 'Big Dave', headed in a late leveller from a free-kick at the death, with our marking non-existent.

Our unbeaten run now extends to a season's best tally of four games, but given the manpower on the field and our superiority for much of the game, three points really should have been collected from this encounter.
