Laurent Robert Interview 15

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 12.09.02

Leeds United caused a shock, last night, by coming to St-James Park and winning 2-0. It wasn't a great night…

Yeah, it was a pretty bad night. Its sad, because we played really well in the first half. We should have scored on at least three or four occasions but it just wouldn't go in. As for me, the first half went very well, but the second was tough going. I was getting the ball less so it was harder to make an impact. With a little more luck, I'm sure we could have won the match. However, its worth pointing out that Leeds are a very good side.

Leeds didn't make it easy by scoring in the 4th minute.

Despite the early goal we remained compact. As a team we didn't lose our heads. However in the 2nd half it got a little ragged. We were less mobile and didn't really know how to open up the game. When doing a one-two, the two never came off. Everyone really tried to make a difference but on their own, not as a team, it was a big mistake. It's no way to win a match. I just hope that we've put that right by Saturday so we can spring a surprise on Chelsea.

Was there training this morning ?

Yeah, we had a brief work-out to loosen up. We also did a bit of post match analysis, we figured out we'd started the second half too badly to have been able to win the game.

You're currently 19th with a game in hand. Not an impressive start for a team considered an outsider for the title.

That's true. We've won one, drawn one and lost two. Not a great start, but there's no need for panic, its only the start of the season. If we win our game in hand against Bolton, we'll be in the top eight. Obviously though, we've got to work on it quick before it gets too late.

Away to Chelsea this coming Saturday, isn't the ideal place for a kickstart. You'll be up against one of the better teams, 5th at the minute and unbeaten.

Obviously, but its still only one match. You never know what can happen, and I can tell you we're going with the objective of bringing back at least one point. We showed against Liverpool when losing 2-0 what we're capable of, why not a repeat of that at Chelsea? Speak to you soon, salut.
