Laurent Robert Interview 21

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 07.10.02

In disposing of West Brom 2-1, Newcastle won their third consecutive match in the Premiership. The Magpies are back…

I hope so. But it’s good to win once again. We’re now 8th in the league with a game in hand (Bolton) and things are looking a lot better than at the beginning of the season. Now, because of the international games, we can have a bit of a breather. We’ve played every three days recently and tiredness is setting in again. This break will do everybody good.

What are your plans for the week?

I discussed this with the manager after the match and he gave me his blessing to spend a week in the south (of France). So I’ve been in Montpellier since Sunday.

Are you physically worn-out?

When you are constantly playing matches you are going to pay for it sooner or later. We’ve just had an exhausting spell but all the same we’ve been able to win our last three league games which makes the blow of suffering personally worthwhile.

Were you satisfied with your performance?

We’ve still got a way to go but I only look to one thing: the three points. Apart from that, our game is coming together bit by bit and I hope that soon we’ll once again see the Newcastle of last season.

You didn’t panic too much when West Brom opened the scoring?

A little as they were a well organised team. They were strong both defensively and in attack and had two decent forwards. Thankfully, we equalised at the end of the first half because had we not, I’m not sure what might have happened. All the same, the equaliser spurred us on for the 2nd half. We put a lot of pressure on and got the breakthrough for our second goal.
