Laurent Robert Interview 24

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 24.10.02

Yesterday, Newcastle won their first Champions League game, beating Juventus 1-0. Due to this result, anything is still possible in Group E.

That’s right, we’re still in it. There are still two games to go against Dynamo Kiev and Feyenoord and who knows what can happen. If the luck is with us…. No matter what, the Juventus win gives us confidence for the rest of the competition. But today, I can tell you, we are savouring the win. It’s great for the club.

How was the atmosphere in the dressing-room?

Everyone was delighted. No-one could say that we’d stolen the points. We even deserved to win by a bigger margin, had we had a bit more luck. But the main thing was taking the three points.

How did the team perform in the match?

Everyone could see that we had a huge desire to win. We’d suffered three consecutive defeats and we had to respond in front of our own fans. We responded in the best possible way and I’m really happy about that.

Now you must follow it up on Saturday.

We’ve got Charlton at home and, quite simply, must win if we want to stay in the top half of the table. Training was cancelled this morning to allow us time to recover but, from tomorrow morning, we’ll be working hard for Saturday’s game.

Last weekend Alan Shearer scored his 300th Premier League goal. What do you think of this player?

He’s a fantastic forward. When you look at the career he’s had, it’s so impressive. He’s never had a bad patch, he’s always come up with the goods and I can only congratulate him for all that he’s achieved since the beginning of his career.

On Saturday it’s the match everyone is waiting for. How do you see PSG v Olymique de Marseille going?

My heart still sways towards Paris and I’m convinced that they’ll win. Besides, I can tell you that they'll put two past Marseille on Saturday. (Laurent explodes with laughter) Hope it’s a good match. Speak to you next week.
