Laurent Robert Interview 41

Taken from his own official (French Language) website 19.02.02

Newcastle beat Manchester City this weekend by the smallest of margins, 1-0, in the fifth round of the FA cup, which will put you into the quarter final.

Yes it's a very good thing, but it has to be said that we played a very good team run by Kevin Keegan. On our side we couldn't really get going in the game and found it hard to create chances, but we did deserve the win.

How did the game go for you personally?

We played very well in the first half, I saw a lot of the ball and I had a very good chance coming in from the left. I wasn't really in the game during the second half as I didn't see too much of the ball. Once Manchester City were down to ten men they really went for it and we couldn't really get a hold of the ball, but we did manage to get a goal, and then we shut up shop.

Manchester still managed to get some decent chances in the second half

Yes, two or three good opportunities, but couldn't convert them.

Sylvain Distin played a big part in this game and gave a good performance

He was elected man of the match. He got his place back in central defence, and he played very well, much better than in the left back position. It's great for him.

You face Arsenal in the next round

It's going to be one hell of a game. We face them in the league next week, and our calendar is full up. We play at Sunderland this weekend, then we play Arsenal at home, then we're away to Liverpool. Then we finish off with the cup tie against the Gunners.

This is a crucial period in your season

Absolutely, we have big games in both the league and cup. Already on Sunday against Sunderland, It's a derby game, and we have to win the three points. Bobby Robson has given me a few days off before training again on Friday. I'm in Disneyland with the kids at the moment having a bit of a breather. I'll recharge my batteries before the heavy schedule which will soon be upon us.

Anything else to add?

There's a rumour going around in England that Liverpool aren't happy with Nicolas Anelka's performances. I'll try and get some more on this during the week, we will be playing them soon and we should speak before we face them on the pitch. Ok talk to you soon.
