Review
NUFC.com's view: At just less than an hour, this is more a biography of "wor jackie" than a pure football action tape, but does feature some 50's Newcastle footage otherwise unavailable on video. Interviews with various of his comtemporaries, including his sister and North East football writer Arthur Appleton are augmented by some words from Milburn himself. Rather less wonderful is a dramatised sequence of a young Milburn playing football in the street to a specially-composed choral soundtrack, but at least the producers went back to his birthplace of Ashington, to use Woodhorn Colliery as a backdrop. Similarly, a sequence showing his trial for Newcastle sees a young actor sitting on the now-demolished terraces at the Gallowgate End of St.James' Park. Verdict: By no means brilliant, but enough information and archive footage contained therein to make it a worthwhile addition to your pile. Highlight: The FA Cup
final goals, of course. |
