After strolling to victory in their opening two games, United didn't have things all their own way on the third leg of their Dutch expedition.

Relocating to a rather genteel town in the province of Utrecht, the hosts included former Dutch international defender Stan Valckx, now 38 and formerly part of Bobby Robson's sides at both Sporting Lisbon and PSV.

Kieron Dyer led the Magpies out and lined up in an advanced role alongside Shola Ameobi - later revealing that it was the first time he'd ever donned the armband at any level in his career.

A rather more feisty affair than anticipated saw both Nolberto Solano and Jamie McClen sustain whacks before the visitors took charge.
