ST renewal
/ price increase confirmation
NUFC confirmed on Friday that the 2023/24 season ticket price
increase will be repeated for 2024/25 season tickets: an average of
3.3% achieved by raising adult prices by 5% and freezing junior
prices.
The renewal period has also been brought forward this year from
June/July to April/May.
Individual match day prices weren't announced.
From NUFC, Friday:
Newcastle United can announce that the renewal process for 2024/25
season tickets will open on Tuesday, 23rd April.
Supporters will be able to renew
their existing season tickets here
until 5pm on Monday, 20th May. Season ticket holders who renew their
ticket will also be able to enrol in soon-to-be-confirmed cup
schemes.
The club has once again frozen
prices for all junior categories, while thousands of supporters will
continue to pay prices set during the 2011/12 season as part of a
long-term price freeze deal.
Prices for all remaining season
ticket categories will rise by 5%, ensuring a blended average price
rise of 3.3% across St. James' Park.
The club has continued to invest
in enhancing the matchday experience at St. James' Park, including
adding licensed standing, improved concourses, new digital services
and an exciting new fan zone - the St. James' STACK, presented by
Sela - which is set to open this summer. Work to enhance stadium
connectivity will also commence soon.
The club has also commissioned
an ongoing comprehensive feasibility study with a leading global
agency to explore what is possible in terms of expanding and
enhancing the stadium in future.

they wish to join. The cup scheme opt-in period will open on
Tuesday, 23rd April and close on Friday, 21st June, at 5pm.
MAGPIE MOVER

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
CUP SEATING
Our aim is to ensure that all
enrolled season ticket holders can enjoy eligible matches from their
existing season ticket seat.
However, for some domestic
and/or European matches (subject to qualification), seating
requirements in specific areas may result in your existing season
ticket seat not being available.
Should this be the case, an
alternative seat will be offered for affected matches.
TRANSFERRING TICKETS
Season ticket holders will once
again be able to transfer tickets to eligible registered family
members or friends if they are unable to attend a match. This will
be supported by ID checks at St. James' Park.
Eligibility to access future
rounds/finals of cup competitions will remain with the original
season ticket holder.
YOUR SEASON TICKET
All season ticket holders will
need to download their digital season ticket once for the full
season.
For cup matches, separate
individual match tickets will need to be downloaded.
Update:
Sports Direct v NUFC
- tribunal decision
Update:
Friday saw the Competition Appeal Tribunal rule that the Sports
Direct claim against Newcastle United was insufficient to merit the
granting of an injunction against the club.
The case will proceed to trial unless an alternative solution can be
reached, with no delay to the June home kit launch permissible,
regardless of whether said trial has taken place by then.
Sports Direct are challenging the club's plans to sell next
season's shirts themselves and via retailer JD Sports - the latter
gaining an exclusive licence.
Earlier: details of next season's Adidas kit
releases were mentioned during the tribunal, including a home kit
launch on June 7th, the away kit in July and a third kit in August.
Figures disclosed during the tribunal also suggest that the
Adidas production run is around 375,000 shirts.
2023/24:
Spurs (h)
Next up at Gallowgate
is another Saturday lunchtime kick-off, when Spurs provide the
opposition in a 12.30pm start on Saturday.
The game is live on TNT Sports.
The last Newcastle goalkeeper to keep a PL clean sheet against the
Cockerels at SJP was Shay Given, way back in December 2003. Since
then Spurs have netted at least once in all 17 PL visits.
Team: Speaking on Friday, Eddie Howe revealed that Lewis Hall
hadn't trained since facing Fulham and was "a slight
concern" in terms of facing Spurs.
Howe also confirmed that Joe Willock won't feature, joining Nick Pope, Miggy Almiron, Tino Livramento, Matt Targett,
Jamaal Lascelles, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Sven Botman, Lewis Miley
and Kieran Trippier on the sidelines.
Of those Livramento is rated the soonest to be back in contention.

THFC: Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon are both injured. Old boy
Fraser Forster also remains out and Richarlison hasn't recovered
quickly enough to make the squad for Saturday.
On the road this season, Ange Postecoglou's side have won six times,
drawn six times and lost just three (at Wolves, Brighton and Fulham).
Three of their last five away games have ended in score draws and
they've scored at least once in all but one of their 15 PL games
away from home.
Referee: Tim Robinson - a speedy return to Toon
duty for the West Sussex whistler, who oversaw our 3-0 home win over
Wolves last month. Before that, Robinson was in charge of the 4-0

Newcastle U21s return to PL2 action on Saturday morning, hosting
Fulham at Whitley Park (11am).
Following a 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion earlier this month,
United are looking for successive league victories for the first
time this season as they seek to bridge a seven point gap to a
playoff spot.
Their opponents sit third in the table and arrive unbeaten in their
last five games, during which they've scored 20 goals.
PS: There's no U18 Premier League game for United this weekend,
their home game against Liverpool scheduled to be played at
Whitley Park this coming Wednesday night (16th) with a 7pm
start.

Midfielder commits
From NUFC, Thursday, a genuinely heartening piece of news
despite the fact he's currently unavailable:
Newcastle United are delighted
to announce that Joelinton has signed a new long-term
contract at St. James' Park.
The Brazilian midfielder joined
the club from Hoffenheim in a then-club record deal in 2019 and has
since amassed 179 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 25 goals.
Initially playing as a forward,
the 27-year-old has been a revelation in a deeper box-to-box
midfield role under head coach Eddie Howe and was a driving force
last season as the club reached the Carabao Cup final and qualified
for the UEFA Champions League.
In June 2023, Joelinton's club
performances were rewarded with international recognition and he
scored on his senior debut for Brazil in a 4-1 win against Guinea.
After agreeing a new deal with
the Magpies, Joelinton said: "I feel great. I feel very happy
and my family is happy. A lot of things have happened in my years
here. I've learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to
Newcastle was the best decision of my career.
"I love playing for the
club. I love the club, I love the fans. We had a lot of discussions
and I always wanted to be here. I'm glad to continue and I hope to
have success in the years to come."
Head coach Eddie Howe added:
"This has been a big priority for us off the pitch and I'm
absolutely delighted Joelinton has committed his future to the club.
"Joey is an exceptional
player and person, and the love he has for the club is reciprocated
by all of us here. He brings unique qualities to the group and
undoubtedly makes us stronger.
"I'd like to thank everyone
involved behind the scenes for bringing this to a swift and positive
conclusion. We are all excited to see Joelinton in a Newcastle shirt
for many years to come."

Brighton (h) & Man U
(a) dates confirmed
The Premier League confirmed on Wednesday that
Newcastle's final home game of the season against Brighton
isn't among the live TV picks and therefore remains a 3pm
start on Saturday May 11th.
Meanwhile our postponed PL visit to Manchester United will be staged on Wednesday
May 15th with an 8pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
That leaves only confirmation of whether our final day visit to Brentford
will be selected for live UK TV - although that would have no
bearing on the kick-off, already set for 4pm on Sunday May
19th.
PS: That Brighton scheduling is bad news for any season ticket
holders hoping to attend Gateshead's FA Trophy Final at Wembley on
May 11th.

Kit sponsors SELA
have confirmed the identity of the charity that will be displayed on
the shirts worn by Newcastle against Spurs on Saturday.

pitchside advertising to RNID - the national charity

loss or Tinnitus.
Alongside the RNID advertising on Saturday comes the launch of the
Sela Sound shirt, using haptic technology to provide a tactile
sensory experience for the wearer by relaying the sound of the crowd
to them. Hopefully they'll pick up some good vibrations on
Saturday....
Sela Sound shirts will be worn by home
fans and club mascots at the Spurs game with hearing loss issues,
with a long-term commitment to provide the service on home match
days following the kit provider switch to Adidas.

Senior Cup tie OFF
Following heavy rain, a 10am pitch inspection at Woodhorn Lane
confirmed the postponement of the Northumberland Senior Cup
semi-final between Ashington and Newcastle U21s on Tuesday night.
No new date has been announced as yet - advance purchase tickets
will be valid for the restaged tie.
Update:
Yet another injury
Newcastle winger Trevan Sanusi has taken to social media
to confirm that an unspecified injury has prematurely ended his
first season at Gallowgate.
The fleet-footed 16 year-old was acquired from Birmingham City last
September and promoted to the U21s two months later. He's gone on to
net twice in his eight reserve appearances to date.
Spotted training with the first team last month, Sanusi's
omission from the United side for Friday's PL2 win over West
Bromwich Albion prompted speculation of a call-up to the squad for
our PL visit to Fulham.
Instead however, the England U17 international prospect faces a
spell on the sidelines - hopefully nothing more than a temporary
setback.
PS: fellow teenager Travis Hernes has also been missing in
recent weeks since debuting at U21 level - another presumed victim
of our injury curse....

Country
call for Kuol
Currently on loan at Dutch league
basement club Volendaam but struggling for pitch time there,
United's Garang Kuol has unsurprisingly been released to
answer a call-up by Australia's U23 side.
The Olyroos are one of 16 participants in the U23 Asian Cup finals
staged in Qatar between April 15th and May 3rd. They are in Group D
along with the host nation and will play their group games in
Doha:
Mon 15.04.2024 Jordan
Thu 18.04.2024 Indonesia
Sun 21.04.2024 Qatar
Kuol - who is joined by elder brother Alou in the squad - earned a
call-up after helping Australia reach the final of the WAFF (West
Asian Football Federation) Championships in Saudi Arabia last month.
The top three sides in the competition will earn a place in the
Olympic Football tournament in Paris between July 24th and August
9th. The side that finishes fourth enters a qualification playoff.

Born Or Died:
1923 Death of Billy
Reid, 47.
(1899-1900)

1975 Tony Dinning born,
Wallsend.
(1990-94)

Midfielder who came to SJP from
Wallsend Boys Club but failed to make the step up from junior/reserve football
to the first XI.
Joining Stockport County in 1994 after his release, Tony made over 200
appearances for the Edgeley Park side in a six-year stint.
A year at Wolves was followed by a loan to Wigan that was made permanent,
Dinning leaving midway through the 2004/05 season with the Latics en route to
the Premiership.
During his time at Wigan though he was loaned out on several occasions, also
appearing for Stoke City, Walsall, Blackpool, Ipswich Town and Bristol City.
Moving to Ashton Gate permanently on a free, Dinning was soon out on loan again
- this time at Port Vale - before making a return to Stockport County in 2006.
Next up was a transfer to Chester City in 2007, with Dinning joining Grays
Athletic on loan in early 2009 after losing his place in the starting XI at the
Deva.
With a brief trial at Inverness Caledonian Thistle having come to nothing,
Dinning returned to Tyneside and played out the remainder of the season at
Gateshead.
Later appearing for Hednesford Town and Stafford Rangers, Tony ended his
playing career at Bridgnorth Town and then coached Shrewsbury Town's U16 side.
1982 Gary Caldwell born
Stirling, Scotland. (2000-04)

Moving to Newcastle along with elder brother Steve as a youngster, the pair had both appeared as
schoolboys for Celtic and Gary had actually played for Scotland as a striker - scoring against England
U15s.
Both joined the Academy as central defenders and developed under
the guidance of Director Alan Irvine and reserve team boss and fellow Scot
Tommy Craig.
While Gary was the better ball player of the two, his chance in the
first team never came - although a full international debut for
Scotland came in 2002.
He did partner his brother once in a Magpies first team game, in a
testimonial at West Bromwich Albion in May 2001.
Gary did play competitively for Darlington, Hibernian, Coventry City and Derby
County and departed from SJP in January 2004.
A brief trial at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem came to nothing and he returned to
Easter Road until 2006, when moving to Celtic.
Two SPL titles and a Scottish FA
Cup medal followed as well as regular appearances in the Champions League -
during which he played as a holding midfielder.
2009 saw him move to Premier League Wigan Athletic - wisely opting not to
join the smoggies after a
transfer was agreed and he underwent a medical.
Facing United regularly during the following three seasons while he was a
Wigan regular, Gary was an unused substitute as his side won the FA Cup by
beating Manchester City at Wembley in May 2013.
However the Latics also suffered relegation and
he had surgery on a hip problem that summer - for the second time in
three years.
Retiring in 2015 after failing to recover fully, Caldwell quickly progressed
from coaching duties to succeed Malky Mackay as Latics manager -
successfully avoiding relegation to League One.
A downturn in form saw him exit in October 2016, with later spells in
charge of Chesterfield and Partick Thistle, assisted at Firhill by SJP old
boy Brian Kerr.
He made a surprise return to Newcastle in 2021 as interim U23s manager but
after just a few games he was off to Hibernian to work as assistant manager
to Shaun Maloney. That lasted until April 2022, Gary returning
to management the following October when taking charge of Exeter City - and
loaning Joe White from Newcastle.
2019 Death of Ivor Broadis, 96
(1953-55)

2020 Death of Peter Bonetti, 78.

It's recorded that McCracken's penalty conversion prompted a Great Dane dog

collected both points from an average display.
Defeat was another nail in the coffin for Chelsea, who slid
closer to relegation and would go down alongside Boro on goal average from
Nottingham Forest.
1924 The home international fixture
between England and Scotland at Wembley ended 1-1; Newcastle's Willie Cowan
netting for the visitors.

seconds of the restart.
That saw their winless run lengthened to seven
games despite playing "with the utmost persistence from start to finish"
in the view of one scribe.

24 hours after a 0-2 home loss to Boro, Newcastle were back at Gallowgate to

Upon entry, spectators received a postal application card for an FA Cup Final ticket.
It's reported that the club received just 7,000 tickets for their Wembley tie
against Arsenal and that 50,000 cards were printed. Match tickets cost three
shillings (15p).

The visitors arrived at SJP for their third game in just four days, and 48
hours later were at Chelsea in the European Cup Winners Cup.
Joe Corrigan sustained a cut over his eye early in the game and was off the
field for seven minutes for treatment - Mike Doyle taking over between the posts
for that spell.
A much-changed City side were then further afflicted when Doyle sustained
ligament damage and withdrew just before the break.
Colin Bell departed on a stretcher with cartilage trouble 20 minutes from the
final whistle, leaving his side down to ten men.

A disappointing game was settled when future Magpie Jim Pearson set up
Martin Dobson to fire past debutant goalkeeper Mick Mahoney.
With the BBC Match of the Day cameras present, home fans unfurled a banner that
read, "we want success" as their side made it eight games without a win.
Manager Joe Harvey admitted meanwhile that, "if I had my life all over again

A haul of just one point from three games saw United's promotion push
falter, as Jack Charlton's Owls came from behind to win.
After David Barton's opener following a corner, Gary Shelton scored his
first goal for Wednesday since joining on loan from Aston Villa, beating
Kevin Carr from close range.
Former and future Magpies Ray Blackhall and Gary Megson then combined to set up
John Pearson for what proved to be the winning goal on the stroke of half

A second 4-1 home win in three games after the humbling of Sheffield
Wednesday came despite playing with ten men for 30 minutes or so.
With the score at 1-0, Paul Gascoigne was sent off for punching Robert Hopkins, who had
continually fouled and blocked him.
However United were in no mood to let relegation-haunted City back in and Peter
Beardsley in particular drove them forward beating David Seaman from an
impossible angle to double the lead and then cracking another superb shot off
the goal frame.

Pompey played their part by raising the away admission price by £8 to £34 from
the previous season, and a forgettable day ended by David James making a block with his

The Pompey 'keeper later confirmed: "I would not have been able to make

It was four defeats, no goals scored and 12 conceded as Newcastle's season
imploded in an unspectacular fashion.
Former Toon transfer target Erik Pieters beat felow countryman Tim Krul with a
misplaced cross for the only goal of the game.
25 years on from the
Hillsborough disaster, the game symbolically kicked off at 3.07pm after a
minute's silence. By full-time though, the air was full of anti-Pardew abuse
from 2,900 thoroughly disaffected away fans.
