Change kit launch

Newcastle will launch this
change kit during the club's Japanese tour on Tuesday at 5pm local time, 9am
BST.
The inspiration for the colour scheme looks to be the 1999/00 season change
kit, reviving the NUFC round crest not seen on a Magpies strip since
1988.

This will be Newcastle's third-ever visit to Japan and they'll play their
sixth and seventh games there:
1982/83 Japan XI won 4-0 Waddle 2, Keegan, Clarke
1982/83 Syria XI drew 1-1 McCreery
1982/83 Yamaha Motor won 1-0 Waddle
1982/83 Botafogo drew 0-0
Two wins and two draws were enough to see Arthur Cox's Magpies lift the
Japan Cup, playing games in Toyko, Okayama, Nagoya and then back to Toyko.
Both Toyko games took place in the old National Stadium that was opened in
1958 and demolished in 2015.
The site is now occupied by the new National Stadium that was first used in
2020 and will host Newcastle's game against Yokohama on Saturday.

Update:
Tonali returns
Wednesday saw Newcastle play a training game against
Championship side Burnley behind closed doors at United's Darsley Park
training ground.
Details are scarce (amid online claims of a 2-3 loss), but The Times confirm that Sandro Tonali
featured for the Magpies - his first appearance since October 2023, when the
midfielder began a ban for breaking betting regulations.
That suspension ends late next month but extends to include any
non-competitive games registered with the FA, meaning that Tonali isn't able
to feature in any of United's public pre-season friendlies.
Now managed by ex-Magpie Scott Parker, this is the third time in four years
that Burnley have provided pre-season opposition in similar training games,
having done so in both 2021 and 2022.
Update:
Dawson departs
Newcastle United Development Coach Ben Dawson has left the club with
immediate effect to take up a first team coaching role at Leicester City.
His departure ends a decade-long association with the Magpies that included
periods in charge of the U18 and U21 sides and a brief stint as interim
first team boss ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Also moving to the Foxes from Crystal Palace is physio James Haycock, who
was previously at Gallowgate.
Dawson's departure leaves the Magpies with vacancies at both U18 and U21
Lead Coach level, following the departure of Graeme Carrick to join brother
Michael at Boro earlier this summer.

Born Or Died:
1993 Ayoze Perez born
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. (2014-19)

United's
first permanent signing in 18 months was a striker arriving for an undisclosed
fee on a "long-term contract" from Spanish second tier club CD
Tenerife in June 2014.
A fee of less than £2m was reportedly paid for a player who had scored 16
times in 34 games the previous season and who was 12 months away from becoming
a free agent.
Debuting for Tenerife's B team during 2012, Perez was blooded in their senior
squad in April 2013 and was scouted by various clubs including Porto, Seville, Valencia, Schalke 04, Manchester City, Arsenal and
Everton.
A mooted transfer to Swansea City in the January 2014 window was mothballed as
the Swans prepared to jettison manager Michael Laudrup and Newcastle announced
that the signing was complete in early June.
Perez then made his bow for in the club's opening pre-season game at League One side Oldham Athletic, before joining his colleagues on the plane to
New Zealand.
Giving notice of his promise with a fine goal in a friendly at Sheffield
Wednesday, Ayoze debuted competitively off the bench in our opening day home loss to Manchester City.
His first goal for the club came at Spurs and was followed by strikes against
Liverpool, West Brom (home and away), Arsenal, Everton and Swansea - a fine
haul for a player branded as "one for the future."
The form of Ayoze and his intelligent play was in stark contast to the more
costly Emmanuel Riviere and while Papiss Cisse flattered to deceive as usual,
the young Spaniard did his bit to avoid relegation.
Newcastle's official website awarded their goal of the season accolade to him
for a deft back-heeled effort at the Hawthorns, while he also won two Spanish
U21 caps during his first campaign as a Magpie.
Unfortunately his six goals were unable to stop United tumbling into the
Championship the following season.
However, Perez provided some vital goals in the promotion campaign,
scoring twice against Preston to secure an instant return and grabbing a
priceless winner at
Brighton.
Top scorer in our first season back in the Premier League with
eight after a brace in the last game of the season against Chelsea, he
also netted twice in the FA Cup.
What proved to be his fifth and final season as a Magpie began slowly, taking
12 games before breaking his seasonal duck.
That header was enough to beat Watford at home and secure United's first league
win of the season at the tenth attempt - Perez celebrating by sticking his
fingers in both ears, a response to booing of him in previous games and
criticism on social media.
Improved results and displays followed as Perez began to gel with Salomon
Rondon - another upturn coming with the arrival of fellow Spanish speaker
Miguel Almiron in the January 2019 transfer window.
Ending the season with 13 goals in all competitions (his best at the club),
that tally including a first hat-trick in Newcastle colours, at home to
Southampton.
Ten days after confirmation came that Rafa Benitez
was leaving his post, fellow Spaniard Perez confirmed his departure in July.
Despite links to Spanish sides, he joined Leicester City after the Foxes bid £30m
to trigger a contractual release clause - having scored the winning goal at the
King Power Stadium in both the previous two seasons.
His first City season brought eight goals in 40 games including a hat-trick in the 9-0 win
at Southampton and of course a strike on his return to SJP.
Silverware followed the next season as the Foxes beat Chelsea at Wembley in
the FA Cup Final, but the 2021/22 campaign was his least effective, Ayoze breaking his PL duck on the final day with a brace against his favourite
opponent, Southampton.
Remaining a peripheral figure, a mid-season loan exit to Real Betis was then
followed by a permanent switch in summer 2023 after his Leicester contract had
expired.
And his form led to a first senior call-up to the Spanish national team -
almost a decade after his last U21 cap - marking his debut against Andorra in
June 2024 with a goal.
Selected for the Euro 2024 squad along with fellow former Magpies Mikel Merino
and Joselu, Perez made one substitute appearance totaling 13 minutes against
Italy as Spain won the tournament.

Having faced sub-standard opposition thus far in the
shape of Norwich City (testimonial) and Lillestrom (Intertoto
Cup), Glenn Roeder's side had a wake-up call at SJP from
Ronald Koeman's Dutchmen.
Damien Duff debuted but his
new colleagues were two down by the
interval, with little to suggest that a revival was on the
cards.
However, after conceding a third goal soon after the
restart, a reshaped United team made a game of it and
could have salvaged an unlikely draw in the final seconds.
