Wembley ticket
sale
The
Pot 4 ballot for Carabao Cup Final tickets ended at Noon on Tuesday with
those ballot winners able to buy tickets from Noon on
Wednesday for a 24 hour period.
We're seeing claims on social media that the ticket sale will be extended to
a ballot of Pot 5, covering those who attended one Carabao Cup tie.
If that's you, check emails for notification from NUFC including junk mail
folder. The Pot 5 ballot runs for a 24 hour period from Thursday at Noon.

train
- final places
FAO anyone seeking
return travel to Wembley on Sunday March 16th, the last remaining charter
train seats are available now from Dawson & Sanderson travel
agents.
First class is sold out, with standard class places priced at £169
per person return. Match ticket not included.
The train will run direct from Newcastle to Wembley Central station, walking
distance from the stadium.
Approximate journey time is 5 hours 30 minutes each way - no alcohol can be
bought or consumed.
Bookings via 0191 261 4888 or in
person at Dawson & Sanderson, 124 Northumberland Street,
Newcastle.
FA Cup:

tickets
Newcastle's FA Cup Fifth Round
home tie against Brighton & Hove Albion will be a 1.45pm kick-off
on Sunday March 2nd live on ITV1.
The ballot for members and ST holders
not in the cup scheme is now open, closing on Wednesday at 2pm.
Ballot winners will be emailed by 11am on Thursday wit seat selection from Thursday at
1pm for 24 hours.
Member sale from Monday 24th February at 10am. ST forwarding/resale from
Monday 24th February at 4pm.
Albion avoided reference to their allocation size when announcing their
ticket sale. Given that they had 2,000 fans here in October and travel
options aren't great for this tie, it would appear likely that they'll not
sell out the maximum number of places they are entitled to.
There's some uncertainty about what the upper figure is, but Bromley (FA
Cup) plus Chelsea and Arsenal (Carabao Cup) were allocated just under 5,000
- the former selling a smaller amount and the latter two selling out.

following maximum returns against Spurs, Wolves and Southampton.

Following last week's 1-5 home loss to
Blackburn Rovers, Saturday saw Newcastle U18s face a Manchester United side
who themselves won 5-1 on Tyneside in September.
A creditable defensive performance yielded a point at
Carrington however, a series of stops from goalkeeper Will Anderson seeing
the hosts drop points for only the third time in fourteen league games this
season.
There was a competitive debut
from the bench for 18 year-old winger Kyle Fitzgerald following his recent
arrival from Galway

confirmed
The outstanding Premier League
fixture between Newcastle and Crystal Palace will be played at SJP on
Wednesday April 16th with a 7.30pm kick-off.
The original fixture date was rendered irrelevant by Newcastle's involvement
in the Carabao Cup Final.
That new date comes between the Premier League home game with Manchester
United and visit to Aston Villa - the latter falling on Easter weekend.

Contract talks
for trio
Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Eddie Howe confirmed
that contract talks were in progress with Fabian Schar, whose
current deal expires in June.
Fellow defender Emil Krafth is similarly engaged in
negotiations to remain a Magpie.
That follows a Sky Sports interview with Martin Dubravka in
which he revealed that he's close to agreeing an extension to his
own SJP contract.
Assuming both players put pen to paper, that leaves Jamaal Lascelles,
Jamal Lewis and Callum Wilson in the final months of their SJP
deals, along with goalkeeping pair John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie.
The Athletic have written in recent days that a new contract
offer for Wilson is unlikely but that is tbc.

that the Reds failed to find the net in the PL.
Referee: Chris

Now 45 year, Redcar-born Stockdale adds Tyneside to his CV following

Born Or Died:
1933
Robert Robson born Sacriston.
(Mgr 1999-2004)

As a footballer, Bobby appeared for Fulham, West Bromwich
Albion and England before ending his career with Vancouver Royals.
His managerial career then began back at Craven Cottage before a successful
stint at Ipswich Town which led to his appointment as England boss.
Returning to club management, Bobby then enjoyed success in the Netherlands (PSV),
Portugal (Sporting Lisbon and Porto) and Spain (Barcelona).
Having failed to convince him to break his contract at Barcelona and become
United boss in 1997, the Magpies had rather more success two years later, by
which time Bobby had returned to Eindhoven.
Installed in succession to Ruud Gullit, Bobby's home debut saw Newcastle beat
Sheffield Wednesday 8-0, with Alan Shearer netting five of those.
After successive eleventh place finishes, Robson then steered United to fourth,
third
and fifth.
In 188 Premier League games, his side registered 83 wins, 51 draws and 54
losses and in the cups, Sir Bobby oversaw both FA Cup and
UEFA Cup semi-finals.
However, his most memorable cup campaign was in the Champions League during 2002/03, United
playing a marathon fourteen games.
A qualifier in Sarajevo, success in Rotterdam and Leverkusen, a fighting draw
in Milan and an emotional return to the Nou Camp were all epic trips. And at
home, beating Juventus and Dynamo Kiev were also highlights.
In truth, 2003/04 ended on a low note with UEFA Cup elimination to
Marseilles in the semi-final and then a home draw with Wolves that saw most of
the SJP crowd leave before the post-match parade - a vote of no
confidence in the manager that many folk failed to recall in later years.
And although draws at Southampton and Liverpool saw the club scrape back into
Europe, the damage was done.
Robson took his side to Thailand and Hong Kong in pre-season, but after two
draws and two losses in the Premier League he was relieved of his duties and
exited from the training ground, golf putter in hand.
After losing 2-4 at Aston Villa in what was to be his final game, we wrote
that:
The ninety minutes had encapsulated the previous five years of Sir Bobby's
reign: initial difficulties overcome, the promise of something magical but
ultimately heartache and disappointment with the fates always seeming to
conspire against us.
A subsequent advisory role with Irewould be Sir
Bobby's final job and he became a regular at both SJP, the stadium
of plight and Durham County cricket club.
Failing health and a recurrence of the cancer that he'd successfully fought
previously began to take their toll, but he devoted the final years of his life
to charitable works - notably the foundation established in his name to raise
funds for cancer research.
Sir Bobby passed away on Friday July 31st 2009, just days after he'd made his
final SJP appearance at a charity match.
In the days following his death, the Leazes End became a shrine to his life.
1934 Death of Robert Bradley, 27.
(1927-29) Died in his sleep following an appearance at Chester the previous
evening for his club Carlisle.

1962 John Ryan born, Ashton-under-Lyne. (1983-84)

One half of our dream team full back pairing, England U21
international left back Ryan came from Oldham Athletic for £225K in August
1983 - a month after Malcolm Brown arrived from Huddersfield Town for £100K to
occupy the opposite flank.
Debuting in a 1-0 win at Leeds United, a pre-season injury to Brown would mean
that the duo didn't appear together for another twelve months, during which
Ryan was a regular until Kenny Wharton took over for the final three months of
the season.
Ryan played in the opening six games of the following season as United returned
to the top flight and Jack Charlton took over from Arthur Cox as manager.
However, Charlton's desire to revamp his squad saw a deal agreed for Sheffield
Wednesday midfielder Pat Heard, with Ryan heading for Hillsborough in
part-exchange and Newcastle banking £40K.
Failing to make an impact at the Owls though, Ryan was back at Boundary Park
within a year and later played for Mansfield Town, Chesterfield, Rochdale and
Bury.
Ryan then ended his career at non-league sides Stalybridge Celtic and Radcliffe
Borough. His whereabouts are unknown, amid online claims that he spent time
at Her Majesty's pleasure.

1975 Keith Robert Gillespie born, Larne, Northern
Ireland. (1995-98)

Moving from Old Trafford as a makeweight in the Andy Cole deal
in early 1995, Gillespie was a gifted winger equipped with the necessary skill,
pace but also an endlessly frustrating inconsistency.
Joining the Red Devils from school and winning an FA Youth Cup winners medal in
1992, Keith made a scoring senior team debut in a League Cup win over Bury in
January 1993 and was loaned out to Wigan Athletic during the following season,
Winning his first senior cap for Northern Ireland against Austria in September
1994, Gillespie flitted around the fringes of the Manchester United first team
and netted his only Premier League goal for them in a 2-0 home win over
Newcastle a month later.
Absent - as was Cole - when the two clubs met in January 1995 at SJP, Gillespie
then debuted the following week in a 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.
Off the pitch things didn't always go to plan, with some well-publicised
gambling losses and a pre-season incident in Dublin when he made the mistake of
giving some bloke from Gosforth a bit of earache...
Perhaps the high point of his career as a Magpie came in September 1997 when
his scampering run down the right flank set up Tino Asprilla for his hat trick
goal against Barcelona in the Champions League.
Failing to appear in the 1998 FA Cup Final, Gillespie began the following
season in the Newcastle side, but woke up to headlines that he was joining
Middlesbrough on the day United faced them in pre-season.
That move failed to be completed, but the consequent departure of manager Kenny
Dalgish and replacement by Ruud Gullit did little to improve his lot at
Gallowgate.
What prove to be Gillespie's final game was a 2-2 draw at the smoggies in
December 1998 and he departed for Blackburn Rovers soon after at a cost of £2m,
Later playing for Wigan Athletic (loan), Leicester City, Leeds United (trial)
and Sheffield United, Gillespie made a scoring return against Newcastle for the
Blades' reserve side in September 2008.
Loaned to Charlton Athletic soon after but never playing a game, he exited
Bramall Lane in January 2009, signing for Belfast side Glentoran after another
unsuccessful attempt to win a contract at Elland Road.
Resurfacing briefly at Bradford City in 2009 and having an equally short stint
with Darlington the following year, an unpaid tax bill then saw him declared
bankrupt.
Signing for League of Ireland side Longford Town in March
2011, Gillespie celebrated his 38th birthday in pre-season training.
Hanging up his boots in September 2013, his autobiography "How Not to be
a Football Millionaire" appeared later that year.

1977
Paul Dalglish, born Glasgow, Scotland. (1998-99)

Ex-Celtic striker brought to Tyneside from Liverpool by his Dad
on a free transfer in November 1997 and immediately loaned to Bury for the rest
of the season, failing to net in fourteen games for the Shakers.
Scoring twice in Newcastle's pre-season victory over Irish side Bray Wanderers
in August 1998, Paul never made a competitive senior appearance for United
while Kenny was in charge, debuting from the bench in a 1-5 victory over
Coventry City a month later - following the arrival of Ruud
Gullit.
Scoring in a League Cup win at Tranmere (with his dad watching from the stands
at Prenton Park) and at home to Sheffield Wednesday in the Premier League, the
arrival of fellow Scot Duncan Ferguson pushed Paul down the pecking order and
he returned to the reserve side.
The final senior game of his time at SJP was a 2-2 draw at Charlton in
early 1999 and following a loan move to Norwich City in the final weeks of that
season, Dalglish became a Canary in a £300K deal.
He later served Wigan Athletic (loan), DC United (USA) (trial),
Burnley (trial), Blackpool, Scunthorpe United (loan), Linfield
(Northern Ireland), Luton Town (trial), Modena (Italy)(trial) Livingston
(Scotland),
Hibernian (Scotland), Houston
Dynamo (USA) and
Leeds United (trial).
Briefly returning to Scotland with Kilmarnock in 2008, Paul retired from
playing and opened the "Braveheart" academy in Houston,
Texas, USA.
Remaining in
the USA he later coached or managed Houston, FC
Tampa Lonestar Soccer Club, Austin
Aztex, Real Salt Lake and the Aztex again before a spell in Canada with Ottowa Fury
from 2015.
Taking charge of Miami
FC in 2018, he later worked as a player's agent.

1983 Jermaine Jenas born Nottingham.
(2002-05)
Midfielder signed from Nottingham Forest for £5m in February
2002, having come through the ranks at the City Ground - where he'd previously
faced Newcastle at junior level before his senior debut in January 2001.
JJ made his debut from the bench during a 3-1 home win over Southampton just
days after arriving on Tyneside and was voted United's young player of the year
in the 2002/03 campaign.
Captaining England U19s before moving to SJP, Jenas appeared for the U21s
and was blooded at senior level in February 2003, one of eleven half time
replacements made by Sven-Goran Eriksson during a 1-3 loss to Australia at
Upton Park.
The 2003/04 season saw Jenas post a number of below-par displays for United in
what proved to be Sir Bobby Robson's last full season as Magpies boss.
Regaining form under Graeme Souness and deputising as captain in
Alan Shearer's absence, his performances dipped again before unwise
comments about goldfish bowls surfaced in August 2005.
The relevant quotes appeared in the press during an interview with Souness,
when the manager told reporters:
"I have spoken to the player's agent and he tells me that JJ is quite
happy with things at the football club. But he says JJ feels that it is like
living in a goldfish bowl being a United player in Newcastle and that's the
biggest problem."
Jenas later distanced himself from those comments, but he was then
barracked by home fans in a pre-season kickabout against non-league Yeading and
dismissed in the season opener at Arsenal (although later downgraded to a
yellow card).
Playing his final game in a 0-2 home loss to Manchester United in late August
2005, he then moved to Spurs in a £7m deal as Tyneside welcomed Michael Owen.
Signing an improved deal at White Hart Lane in 2007, Jenas encountered some
fitness problems but collected at League Cup winner's medal the following
season.
Falling from favour, he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the 2011/12 season
but a further injury in December 2011 sidelined him for the remainder of the
season.
Returning to Spurs, Jenas appeared briefly for them before being loaned out to
Nottingham Forest in September 2012 in an attempt to regain match fitness.
The loan was extended until January 2013 but on the last day of the transfer
window he was sold to QPR, linking up again with former Spurs boss Harry
Redknapp.
Despite a run of games he was unable to prevent
his new side being relegated, closing off the season losing 1-2 to Newcastle at
Loftus Road.
A cruciate injury sustained against his former club Forest in
April 2014 sidelined Jenas once again and he could only look on as the R's
secured a Premier League return in the playoff final at Wembley.
His R's contract expired in 2014 but he remained
with the club during his rehabilitation while doing media work.
However, no comeback materialised and Jenas belatedly confirmed his
retirement in January 2016, by then a TV pundit.
By 2020, that had evolved into presenting the BBC1 weekday
evening magazine, The One Show.
However, that was cut short when he was "cancelled" after sending
inappropriate messages to female colleagues and was dropped by his talent
agency.
Jenas later returned with talkSPORT.

There was a touch of controversy about both home equalisers - with Steve Bruce
firstly adjudged to have bundled over Mark McGhee in the Leazes End penalty
area.
Mick Quinn then collided with Jim Leighton as they challenged for a Kevin Brock
corner and Kevin Scott nodded in from close range - a furious Leighton pursuing
referee Danny Vickers back to the centre circle in a vain attempt to win a free
kick.
With a replay on the horizon though, good combination play between Paul Ince and Danny Wallace set up Brian McClair
