2025/26:
ST price rises
now confirmed

Thursday saw NUFC confirm 2025/26 season ticket prices and while some other PL clubs have announced a freeze, a 5% increase on standard adult prices will apply at SJP - hardly a shock given current PSR pressures, but a further unwanted drain on resources for supporters.

Season ticket holders who were on the long-term price freeze deals that have all now expired will see 2025/26 ticket prices increase to the standard pricing level.

As an example, adult 1892 Club tickets will increase from £635 (£33.42 per game) to £1,083 (£57 per game).

There's no increase in junior ticket prices again and the current range of concessionary prices will continue to be offered - that's in contrast to several other PL clubs who have axed price categories such as Young Persons.

A new 12 month interest-free direct debit schedule will appear in place of the previous eight month option.

ST holders currently paying via Direct Debit will be contacted by email to confirm payment details and auto-renewal will apply.

Other ST holders can renew their seats online via the club website from Mon 10.03.2025 @ 10am until Fri 21.03.2025 @ 5pm.

(Emails sent out to ST holders who pay in a single instalment reference a payment date of late April).

Domestic home cup scheme ticket pricing will remain unchanged from the 2024/25 rates as follows:

CC: £20 & £25 adults / £10 & £15 others
FA: £30 & £35 adults / £15 & £20 others

Details of how to join the cup schemes and the latest dates to do so is yet to be announced.

In the event that European qualification is achieved, no indication as to the ticket prices has been given.

There's no mention of what single PL game prices will be next season for those purchasing via ballots or member general sale.

PS: There's no mention of any change in current season ticket policy for new applicants - with none available to purchase and no mention of any queueing system.

PPS: There's also nothing to suggest that the rumoured relocation of away sections will actually become a reality, with consequent knock-on effects for home fans.

Update:
Dropping like flies

Wednesday evening saw Newcastle confirm that Sven Botman will undergo surgery on a knee problem that means he'll miss the remainder of this season.

The Dutch defender returned to action in January after nine months on the sidelines, but after five appearances failed to feature in any of the last five games due to a separate knee issue that now requires intervention.

Earlier: Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the season the club have announced, after a scan confirmed that he broke a bone in his foot during the Liverpool game.

The 20 year-old defender was one of the few players to come out of Wednesday's Premier League defeat at Anfield with any credit, keeping Mo Salah at bay.

Sadly though he'll not have the chance to repeat that feat against the Egyptian at Wembley on Sunday week, also missing out on likely selection in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad later this month.

Meanwhile Sky Sports assert that no appeal against the dismissal of Anthony Gordon versus Brighton & Hove Albion will be made by United, meaning that he'll serve an immediate three game suspension in all competitions.

As a consequence he'll miss the Carabao Cup Final in addition to PL games versus West Ham and Brentford before being eligible to face Leicester City on April 7th.

PS: fears over the fitness of Alexander Isak were partially allayed when he took part in the club's Carabao Cup Final media day on Wednesday and was also seen taking part in training at Darsley Park.

Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier also reportedly participated in the training session.

Monies raised help to benefit the work of the Percy Hedley Foundation in the region, supporting various initiatives to improve the lives of disabled people.

Update
:
Financial results

Tuesday saw NUFC release their latest financial results, for the year ending June 30th 2024.

The club's revenues have increased from £140.2m in 2021, £180m in 2022 and £250.3m in 2023 to £320.3m.

Find the results online here

PS:
Regarding SJP, the financial report doesn't give any  clues as to the club's intentions, saying only that they "continue to explore a range of options in relation to potential enhancement or expansion of St James' Park or the development of a new stadium."

Similarly there's no clarity on whether an enhanced training ground or a move to a new site is pending.

2024/25:
Wembley officials set

The Carabao Cup Final on Sunday week will be refereed by John Brooks, the Leicestershire official given his third Magpies game of the season, following the 1-0 PL home win over Arsenal and 2-0 semi-final first leg success against the Gunners at the Emirates.

Brooks has previously taken charge of a Newcastle versus Liverpool Premier League game; Jurgen Klopp's side winning 2-1 at Gallowgate in August 2023 despite having Virgil van Dijk dismissed.

VAR duties will be overseen by Stuart Attwell.

Update:
Ticket updates

Tickets for Monday's Premier League visit to West Ham will be in digital form and are now appearing via email.

Meanwhile, tickets for the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool at Wembley are in paper form and began dropping through letterboxes on Tuesday.

Match report

Quarter Final draw:

Fulham v Crystal Palace
Preston North End v Aston Villa
Bournemouth v Manchester City
Brighton v Nottingham Forest

Defeat means that Newcastle have no game between Sunday March 16th (Liverpool at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final) and Wednesday April 2nd (Brentford at home in the Premier League).

A warm weather training camp in Saudi Arabia is planned after the Carabao Cup Final for those players who won't then be away on international duty.

The PL home game against Ipswich Town on Saturday April 26th - semi-final weekend - goes ahead as announced, the Tractor Boys exiting in the Fifth Round.

And finally, our exit from the competition means that the PL visit to Arsenal on or around Sunday May 18th will now go ahead - the FA Cup Final takes place on Saturday May 17th, with no PL fixtures that day.

U21s:
Tees test next

Newcastle's U21 side continue their pursuit of a PL2 play-off spot on Friday evening, when they face their Boro counterparts at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park.

It's a 7pm kick-off, with the hosts yet to confirm admission details - it was £3 at the gate last season.

With four games left, United sit sixteenth in the 26 team league - the lowest position that leads to qualification for the end-of-season knockout phase.

2024/25:

The Magpies return to Premier League action on Monday evening against the Hammers.

Kick-off at the London Stadium is 8pm start live on Sky Sports and Newcastle's 3,000 tickets are sold out.

Team: Anthony Gordon begins a three game suspension, while Lewis Hall and Sven Botman will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Jamaal Lascelles remains a long-term absentee.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 6/5

WHUFC win 21/10

WHUFC: To follow

Graham Potter's side are bidding for a third consecutive PL win following a 1-0 victory at Arsenal and 2-0 home success against Leicester City.

An FA Cup exit to Aston Villa meant that they have a 11 day gap between games before hosting Newcastle.

On home territory this season, the Hammers have lost seven, won five and drawn two. They have recorded just two clean sheets during those games.

Referee: Michael Salisbury - first Toon game of the season for the Lancashire whistler, last seen taking charge of the 2-2 Premier League home draw with Bournemouth in February 2024.

is one strike away from becoming the first Magpie to hit 20 PL goals in successive seasons.

He's netted five times against West Ham for Newcastle in the PL so far, a total exceeded by the half dozen he's hit against both Spurs and Nottingham Forest.

The next three point return for Newcastle on the road will be their 150th PL away win.

Internationals:
England claim top spot

Newcastle youngsters Sam Alabi, Michael Mills and George Mair were in a 20-strong England U16 squad that won a four team tournament in Spain this week.

The three Magpies were all in the starting line-up for Friday's opener against Colombia at the Pinatar Arena, England winning 4-0 but none of our lads netting.

Sunday saw England defeat Denmark 7-3 at Pinatar, with the Magpies trio all named on the bench. Mills definitely got some pitch time and scored once.

England then concluded their stay at Pinatar with a 1-2 loss to France on Wednesday, Mair and Mills named in the starting lineup and Alabi on the bench.

Despite that defeat, the young Lions claimed top spot in the friendly competition.

:
Comeback complete

Wolves U18s  2  Newcastle U18s  4

Newcastle's U18 side were in the Black Country on Saturday, facing Wolves at their Compton Park HQ.

United came close to opening the scoring after 13 minutes, Kacey Wooster almost catching home 'keeper George Hardy off his line with a lob from distance.

Making his first start at this level, Newcastle's Kyle Fitzgerald then pinged a shot off the outside of the post from just inside the area with 24 minutes played.

The home side went ahead six minutes before half time, when a snap shot from Mateus Mane ended up in the bottom corner of Will Anderson's goal.

A smart stop from the visiting 'keeper at his near post then prevented striker Mane from doubling the lead just before the interval.

Winless in their last nine league games, Wolves went 2-0 up five minutes after the resumption when a corner kick fell to Mason Stevens. His initial shot was blocked by Anderson but Ollie Stafford converted the rebound.

That two goal advantage lasted less than 10 minutes though, before Jake Durrant's cross from the United left was headed back across goal by Kyle Fitzgerald for Alex O'Donovan to fire home from barely a yard out.

And the lead was wiped out with 12 minutes to play, O'Donovan setting Mo Waddani free on the left and his centre slotted home by Fitzgerald - his first Toon goal.

Waddani then thought he'd put his side ahead for the first time in the match, only to see it ruled out by a raised assistant's flag.

Within seconds though the ball was in the Wolves net again, Wooster rounding the 'keeper and Bjorn Marwa getting the final touch to send it into his own net.

That came in the 85th minute and it was 4-2 soon after; Fitzgerald's driving run doing the damage and Wooster making no mistake with his third goal in two games.

Team: Anderson, Bloomer, Durrant, Johnson, Epia, Cogdon, Fitzgerald, Harper, Wooster (Yeutembip 90+2), O'Donovan, Waddani (Lucas 90+2).
Subs n/u:
Holland, Ndiweni, Gilligan.

Booked: Epia

The Magpies were forced to make changes from the side that defeated Liverpool 3-1 last weekend, Logan Watts promoted to the U21s and Sam Alabi and Michael Mills away on international duty with England.

That also resulted in a very youthful bench, with a debut at this level for 15 year-old defender Lesecond Yeutembip, fresh from making his England U15 bow.

Another feat of endurance from GW

Born Or Died:

1912 Bob Dennison born, Amble.
(1929-34)

Centre half whose first team debut came in a 2-0 home victory over Sheffield United during February 1933.

The remainder of his ten senior outings came over the following fourteen months, netting against the Blades and Aston Villa in the 1933/34 season.

Moving on to Nottingham Forest, Bob also appeared for both Fulham and Northampton Town, later managing the Cobblers.

July 1954 saw Dennison appointed as Boro boss and he would remain at Ayresome Park until 1963, handing Brian Clough his debut.

Following his sacking, Bob won £3,200 in an unfair dismissal case and went on to take charge of Hereford United. Later acting as assistant boss of Coventry City under Noel Cantwell, he helped the Sky Blues avoid relegation during a three month spell in caretaker charge at the end of 1971/72.

Dennison retired in 1978 and lived in Kent until his death in 1996.

1914 Tommy Pearson born, Edinburgh, Scotland. (1933-48)

Outside left signed from Murrayfield Amateurs in his native Edinburgh for £35 having being rejected by Hearts after a trial (Tommy's father - Tommy Senior - was a former Tynecastle favourite).

Six seasons of regular first team football followed before the league programme was curtailed due to the outbreak of hostilities.

Renowned for his "double shuffle" dribble, Pearson remained with United during the war years but was posted to various RAF camps.

As a result, he represented various clubs in wartime games, notably: Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Spurs, Birmingham, Liverpool, Blackpool, Stoke City, Walsall and back in Scotland, Hearts.

He also made one appearance for England in a friendly international at SJP in December 1939, making the numbers up against his home country, Scotland.

1947 saw Pearson collect his only two full Scottish caps: a 1-1 draw with England at Wembley and a 1-2 reverse at the hands of Belgium in the Heysel Stadium, Brussels.

Tommy left SJP for Aberdeen in 1948 at a cost of £4,000 and later coached and managed The Dons - also trying his hand at sports writing for the Scottish Daily Mail.

Moving back to Edinburgh, he worked in a jewellery business and for a time scouted players in the Lothian area for Newcastle.

Also competing as an amateur in the Open Golf Championship, Tommy passed away in March 1999.

An afternoon kick-off at a packed Anlaby Road saw First Division Newcastle knocked out of the FA Cup by the Second Division Tigers - who were managed by former Magpies favourite, Bill McCracken.

Dominating the tie, a United side clad in white shirts and black shorts conceded what proved to be the winner almost from the kick-off in the second half - future Magpie Ron Starling beginning the move that ended in Jimmie Howieson's shot on goal being fumbled in by goalkeeper Albert McInroy.

Home defeat number ten of the season in 17 games was a drab affair, former Magpie forwards Tommy Thompson and Johnny Dixon "giving an object lesson in skill and thrust", according to Sunday Sun reporter Ken McKenzie.

1954 Newcastle reserves fared rather better, winning 4-2 against Bury at Gigg Lane in the Central League. Alan Monkhouse led the way with a hat-trick, Len White also on target.

Imre Varadi's sixteenth goal of the season was enough to secure a fifth successive home win for Arthur Cox's side and keep faint promotion hopes alive.

Referee Ken Walmsley warned Ian Evans after he looked to catch David Mills with a stray boot that knocked him out in the fifteenth minute and saw him replaced soon after.

That was the cue for home fans to spend the rest of the match booing him, oblivious to the fact the assailant was actually fellow Tykes defender Mick McCarthy.

United's on-loan striker needed five stitches in a cheek wound and later admitted that his first recollection of the incident was coming round in the dressing room.

1982 The reserves were on the wrong end of a 0-6 howking at Villa Park, only some goalkeeping heroics from Steve Hardwick keeping the score down.

1991 The reserves defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 at SJP, Borussia Munchengladbach defender Thomas Huschbeck making his only United appearance as a trialist and picking up a booking for his trouble.

Andy Hunt and Liam O'Brien put United 2-0 up early on before the visitors levelled, only to then give Newcastle the points when former Darlington defender Chris Hope registered an own goal.

A game recalled more for a disallowed goal rather than the six United netted (Kevin Scott putting past his own keeper).

Robert Lee "scored" at the Leazes end from within his own half only for the referee to rule it out and bring play back for a free kick to United awarded for a Bees offside.

Joe Allon and Paul Stephenson made their Bees bows, but would probably rather have been in the stand cheering on the Toon.

2008 United's reserves beat Whitley Bay 2-1 to book their place in the Northumberland Senior Cup Final against Blyth Spartans.

However, the Northern League side pushed them all the way, ex-Toon trialist Lee Kerr shooting home in the 90th minute to cancel out an earlier James Troisi effort.

Wesley Ngo Baheng's first Newcastle goal won the tie in extra time at Whitley Park.

2019 NUFC issued the following
statement:

"Newcastle United can confirm that Peter Beardsley is no longer employed by the club.

We are grateful for the contribution Peter has given over the years as a player, coach and ambassador and we wish him well for the future."

Beardsley was suspended on full pay as Newcastle's U23 coach in January 2018, following allegations of racism and bullying made by members of his playing squad that were later upheld by an FA inquiry.
