Gordon injury concern
Ruled out of Newcastle's next game as he
completes a three match club suspension, Anthony Gordon got some
pitch time for England in the closing stages of Friday's 2-0 home victory
over Albania.
However he quickly picked up what was described as a hip injury, spending
much of his 16 minutes on the field hobbling and receiving further treatment
at full time.
The extent of the problem is still to be ascertained, but Gordon's
participation in Monday's England meeting with Latvia looks in serious
doubt.

Town Moor -
register now
Update: NUFC confirm that access to
the Moor will be from 1.30pm on Saturday March 29th and that the event will
end at 8pm.
Alcohol won't be allowed, no parking will be provided and it's standing only
- no seating (an area accommodating wheelchairs will be set aside but must
be pre-booked).
Whether there will be anything further on the day than this stage-managed
event - with the players presented to the crowd from a stage - is unclear.
How the squad will arrive on the Moor is also yet to be confirmed.
From NUFC, Friday:
Newcastle United will celebrate the club’s historic Carabao Cup Final
victory with a free open-air event on Saturday 29th March.
Supporters will get the chance to see
Eddie Howe and the first team players with the cup for the first time since
last Sunday’s famous win at Wembley.
Set around a large main stage on the
Town Moor, adjacent to the Great North Road, the open-air event will be free
to attend. Supporters are asked to register their interest to assist with
planning.
It will feature a DJ, live band, ‘Road
to Wembley’ highlights, a screening of the full cup final and special
guests.
The team will then proudly lift the
Carabao Cup on stage – presenting the club’s first domestic trophy for
70 years to the city.
The celebrations will close with a
spectacular show from club partner Sela and further event details will be
published ahead of the show.
Fans will have the opportunity to
register interest until midnight on Sunday 23 March as follows:
Season ticket holders from 1pm Friday
Members from 3pm Friday
Public from 10am Saturday.
You must have a Newcastle United account
to register your interest. Registration is one per supporter number. Adults
will be able to add one junior ticket to their registration with the adult
supporter number.
Registrations must be submitted
here. No email/ telephone/ in-person registrations can be
accepted.
Registering your interest does not
guarantee you access to the event. Further details will follow to those that
register their interest with the club.

Live TV delay
Hopes that the Premier League would stick
to their own published timetable and confirm TV rescheduling for matchweek 35
on Friday proved to be misplaced.
That leaves Newcastle fans left hanging on to finalise travel plans for the
visit to Brighton & Hove Albion on the early May Bank Holiday Weekend of
May 5th.
For once, there are no scheduled rail engineering works directly impacting
travellers from the North East.

Update:
Rob removed
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliott
has left his position as manager of Crawley Town, with the club 22nd in
League One and likely to be relegated.
His assistant Louis Storey - himself a former Magpie reserve defender - has
assumed interim charge.
Elliott's exit from the Broadfield Stadium means that two former Gateshead
bosses are currently unemployed - Mike Willamson also clubless after leaving
Carlisle.

There were multiple correct entries

Pre-season
rumours
Following recent claims of a possible pre-season visit to Hong
Kong by Newcastle United, the Straits Times has written
that the Magpies are one of several clubs in talks to play games in Singapore
this July.
The newspaper also names Arsenal and AC Milan plus one further
unidentified club as possible participants in kickabouts at the
55,000 capacity National Stadium.
Asian media reports earlier this year also linked Arsenal and AC
Milan (plus Spurs) with pre-season games played in the Kai Tak
Stadium in Hong Kong.
Talk of a pre-season visit to Celtic on July 19th for Eddie Howe's
side has done the rounds for some time now.

Youngsters on form
There's no competitive fixture this coming weekend for Newcastle
U18s, delaying their efforts to extend a current four game
winning run in the league.
Chris Moore's side return to action on Saturday week (29th) when
Everton visit Little Benton - United beaten 2-3 by them on
Merseyside earlier in the season.
Victory over the Toffees would make it five in a row for the
youngsters for only the fourth time in the current youth league
format that was adopted back in 2004.
The young Magpies racked up five game winning runs during February
2014 and March 2018; their longest sequence to date coming in
December 2008 when eight successive U18 league victories were
recorded.

other clubs competing in that age group.
The original Cotton Bowl Stadium opened in 1930 and had a maximum capacity
of 75,000. It hosted six matches during the 1994 World Cup Finals.

2025/26:
ST price rise confirmed
NUFC have announced 2025/26
season ticket prices and while some other PL clubs have frozen their
charges,
a 5% increase on standard adult prices will apply at SJP - hardly a
shock given current PSR pressures, but a further unwanted drain on resources
for supporters.
Season ticket holders who were on the long-term price freeze deals that have
all now expired will see 2025/26 ticket prices increase to the standard
pricing level.
As an example, adult 1892 Club tickets will increase from £635 (£33.42 per
game) to £1,083 (£57 per game).
There's no increase in junior ticket prices again and the current range of
concessionary prices will continue to be offered - that's in contrast to
several other PL clubs who have axed price categories such as Young Persons.
A new 12 month interest-free direct debit schedule will appear in place of
the previous eight month option.
ST holders currently paying via Direct Debit will be contacted by email to
confirm payment details and auto-renewal will apply.
Other ST holders can renew their seats online via the club website until Fri 21.03.2025 @ 5pm.

Brentford
(h)
The Magpies return to Premier
League action on Wednesday April 2nd, when Thomas Frank brings his
Bees to Gallowgate for a non-televised 7.45pm start.
This will be only the eighth time that the two clubs have met in top-flight
competition, United winning five and drawing one of the first six before
Brentford notched up their maiden success in West London last
December.
Results from
PL games played while Newcastle were at Wembley left Eddie Howe's side sixth
in the table on 47 points, with Brentford six points and five places behind
that having played a game more.
Team: Anthony
Gordon will serve the third and final game of his suspension, while Sven
Botman and Lewis Hall remain sidelined following surgery.
Injury victim Jamaal Lascelles is nearing a return to the squad a year after
his most recent appearance.
Coral rate this game as follows:
NUFC win 4/6

BFC win 12/5

BFC: Fabio Carvalho remains out but Michael Kayode, Mathias Jensen,
Igor Thiago, Josh Dasilva and Aaron Hickey could all return.

road in the PL: a 0-0 draw at Brighton followed by wins at Southampton
(5-0), Palace (2-1), West Ham (1-0), Leicester (4-0) and Bournemouth (2-1).

Born Or Died:
1877 John Hope Peddie born, Glasgow.
(1897-1902)

Newcastle's original cult centre forward was nicknamed "Jock"
and signed from Third Lanark for the sum of £135, debuting in a 1-0 away win
against Newton Heath in November 1897.
His diminutive size proved to be no obstacle to a prolific goalscoring record
and he is recorded as possessing a fearsome shot.
The second half of the 1898/99 season saw Peddie net in seven successive
matches, a record that was subsequently matched by Paul Goddard and Les
Ferdinand.
Leaving SJP for Manchester United, Peddie later moved on to Plymouth Argyle and
returned to Scotland with Hearts.
He emigrated to the USA and settled in Detroit, passing away in 1928.

1933 John Hall born, Ashington.
(1992-2007 Chairman, Director)

Profile to follow
1967 Malcolm Allen
born, Deiniolen, Wales. (1993-95)

Striker who had an unsuccessful trial at Manchester United aged
13 before joining Watford in 1983 - scoring a hat trick in his
trial for the youth side with Hornets boss Graham Taylor watching.
Captaining Watford against Newcastle in the 1985 FA Youth Cup Final, Allen was
in and out of their first team in the next three years (with a brief spell
at Aston Villa in 1987) before joining Norwich City.
The most successful time of his career in terms of goals scored and appearances
made then came at Millwall between 1990 and 1993 - although the knee injury
that was ultimately to force his retirement sidelined him for almost a year.
Allen made a hurried move to Newcastle on the eve of the 1993/94 season, after
Peter Beardsley fractured a cheekbone in a clash with Neil Ruddock during
Ronnie Whelan's testimonial match at Anfield.
Debuting in our first Premiership game at home to Spurs in August 1993, Malcolm
netted seven times in the opening months of the season, with his first
earning our debut Premiership win at home to Everton.
He also rounded off a fine night at SJP with the last goal in a memorable 4-2
victory over Sheffield Wednesday when United donned their blue change kit.
The return of Beardsley saw Malcolm drop out of the first team picture and a
knee injury saw him undergo several operations in an unsuccessful bid to for
match fitness.
What proved to be the final senior game of his career came from the bench in a
home meeting with Spurs in May 1995 - over 18 months after his previous
appearance.
By then though, Malcolm's off-field life was overshadowing his career and after
losing his licence for a drink-driving offence, he was also investigated by
the police over a counterfeit cash operation.
Spending time in a treatment facility paid for by United in a bid to control
his drinking, Allen attempted to extend his career with Aberystwyth Town and
became the FAW North Wales football development officer.
A second drinking driving conviction though saw him lose that job, serve a
three year driving ban and do 250 hours community service that saw him
calling bingo numbers for a Watford OAP group, barely a year after playing
Premier League football.
Stints playing and coaching at a number of clubs followed,
including Stevenage Borough, Colney Health, Molesey, Letchworth Town
and Edgware Town. He also worked at North Hertfordshire College, Newcastle College and Spurs.
Drink driving convictions in both 2004 and 2008 book-ended a 2006 court
appearance, but he received only a suspended sentence then for assaulting a
woman in a fight.
Forced to resign from a TV punditry role for the BBC in Wales after the 2008
offence, Malcolm subsequently took up a similar post on the S4C channel's "Sgorio"
programme, commentating and also coaching his former club Llanberis for a
documentary series.
Allen published his autobiography in Welsh during 2010 and recounted the ups
and downs of his life in an S4C documentary "Cyfle Arall" ('another
chance") in 2014.
A Welsh international, Allen won 14 caps between 1986 and 1993 (his final game
coming against Romania while a Magpie) and scored three goals.

1971 Hélder Marino Cristóvão
born, Luanda, Angola.
(1999-2000)

Portuguese international defender signed on loan from Deportivo
La Coruna following injuries to both Alain Goma and Marcelino.
Making his debut in a 2-1 home win over Spurs in November 1999, Helder was
paired with Nicos Dabizas and proved to be a steady, solid and unspectacular
performer.
His one moment in the spotlight came in our first visit to the Stadium of
Plight, when his header put us 2-0 ahead - although the game ended in a 2-2
draw.
After returning to Spain, Helder moved on to play for Benfica, Paris St.Germain
and Greek side Larissa before hanging up his boots.
Later coaching in Portugal with Estoril and Portimonense, he oversaw Benfica's
seond team between 2013 and 2018.
And following stints in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr and Ettifaq, January 2020
found him taking charge of Slovakian side FC DAC 1904. In June 2021, Helder was appointed at newly promoted Al-Hazem FC in the Saudi top division but he was sacked in November with the club bottom of the league. He was appointed by Ismaily SC, placed last in the Egyptian Premier League, in September 2022. His contract was terminated hours later, allegedly due to misinformation presented on his curriculum vitae by his agent.

1996 James Morgan born, North Shields.
(2012-14)

Full back who appeared for United's U15s in the Singapore
Lion City Cup during 2011 and joined the Magpies the following year.
Debuted at U18 level in a 0-4 home defeat by Spurs during August 2012, James
then his U21 bow in a 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage in October
2013.
However, injury problems curtailed Morgan's season and he accepted a scholarship at Lees–McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina,
USA - playing for their soccer team, the Bobcats.
2000 Matthew Longstaff born, Rotherham
(2015-23)

Midfielder who joined Newcastle's Academy from
North Shields Juniors, debuting for the U18s in January 2016 and
stepping up to the reserves within 12 months.
Facing Football League sides for United's second string in EFL Trophy ties
during the 2018/19 campaign, Matty soon had an opportunity to showcase his
potential on a wider stage.
Named in the senior squad by U23 coach Ben Dawson for pre-season games in
China, Matty caught the eye of new boss Steve Bruce and a clutch of friendly
outings included a fine strike against St. Etienne.
He memorably stretched that same Gallowgate End net in October, marking his
Premier League bow from the bench with the goal that beat Manchester United.
And Matty repeated the feat at Old Trafford on Boxing Day - although the
hosts then replied four times.
A third senior goal came in an FA Cup home replay victory over Rochdale, but
by then contractual issues were clouding his future, belatedly agreeing a new
deal.
After signing that however, Matty found himself largely exiled from the
senior squad - to an even greater extent than brother Sean - reduced to
occasional U23 games.
A loan move to Aberdeen in August 2021 proved to be fairly disastrous, with
Dons boss and former Magpie Stephen Glass reluctant to select Matty.
Officially returning to Tyneside in early 2022, Longstaff was then loaned
back out to League Two side Mansfield Town, where he benefited from regular
starting selections and scored in three successive games ahead of his 22nd birthday. Loaned out to League Two side Colchester United,
he damaged his ACL on Boxing Day and returned to Tyneside for treatment.
Undergoing surgery, Matty remained with United to complete his rehabilitation
after becoming a free agent that summer. Agreement was then
reached on a two year deal with MLS side Toronto FC in February 2024 and he
supplied the assist for the only goal on his debut against Charlotte FC the
following month.
The younger brother of fellow Magpie Sean, Matty's South
Yorkshire birthplace is due to his father David living in the area while
playing professional ice hockey for Sheffield Steelers.

After the first tie at SJP was declared void by the FA
after crowd trouble, the two sides had met again at the
neutral venue of Everton's Goodison Park.
However a goalless draw meant that a replay was required
and this was again staged at Goodison. This time a
semi-final spot against Burnley was secured by a typical
Malcolm Macdonald strike in the first half.
There was more controversy, though, when
ref David Smith ordered a Forest free-kick to be retaken.
The first effort had found the net but Smith ordered the
retake for Paul Richardson's ungentlemanly conduct in
stepping over the ball and laying it into Ian Bowyer's
path.
