So far this season on their own ground, City have won twice, drawn three times and lost the other ten games.

Since a 2-2 draw with Brighton at the King Power in early December, Leicester have lost all seven PL home games, conceding 18 goals and scoring none - a barren scoring sequence currently standing at 630 minutes.

Tuesday saw Ruud van Nistelrooy's side beaten 0-2 at Manchester City - their seventh consecutive PL loss. It's now 670 minutes since their most recent PL goal.

Referee: Rob Jones - a second Newcastle appointment of the season for the Merseysider, following the 2-1 PL home victory over Spurs back in September..

Premier League:
Thanks for nothing

As we predicted, the Premier League have given two possible slots for the visit of Chelsea to SJP in May, depending on their European status.

Should Chelsea win their Conference League quarter-final against Legia Warsaw on Thu 10.04.2025 and Thu 17.04.2025, they will visit SJP for a Noon KO on Sunday May 11th

Should Chelsea lose their Conference League quarter-final against Legia Warsaw on Thu 10.04.2025 and Thu 17.04.2025, they will visit SJP for a 12.30pm KO on Saturday May 10th

Newcastle's confirmed PL games:

Mon 07.04.2025 Leicester City (a) 8pm Sky
Sun 13.04.2025 Man United (h) 4.30pm Sky
Wed 16.04.2025 Palace (h) 7.30pm Sky
Sat 19.04.2025 Aston Villa (a) 5.30pm Sky
Sat 26.04.2025 Ipswich Town (h) 3pm no TV
Sun 04.05.2025 Brighton (a) 2pm Sky
Sat 10.05.2025 tbc Chelsea (h) 12.30pm TNT
Sun 25.05.2025 Everton (h) 4pm TV tbc*

The date and KO time of one game remains tbc:

Sun 18.05.2025 tbc Arsenal (a) TV tbc (if any)

The deadline for confirming was this Friday, but as expected, nothing was forthcoming from the PL.

No PL games will be played on Sat 17.05.2025 to avoid clashing with the FA Cup Final, but in theory we could visit the Emirates on Fri 16.05.2025, Sun 18.05.2025 or Mon 19.05.2025.

We did speculate on whether the rescheduling of the Arsenal versus Crystal Palace game would have any bearing on when we faced The Gunners - that will now take place on Wed 23.04.2025 so becomes irrelevant.

* The final PL games will all kick off at the same date and time regardless of whether they are chosen for TV or not. Those TV selections will be announced following the penultimate round of PL games.

U18s:
Treble chance for Teens

Following a 4-2 away win in the cup and a 4-1 home League success against them, Saturday sees Newcastle U18s face Stoke City for the third time this season.

Kick-off at the Potters' Clayton Wood training ground is at 1.30pm and Chris Moore's youngsters go into the game with four wins and a draw from their five league road trips thus far in 2025.

U21s:
Stiffs back at SJP

Newcastle U21s conclude their home programme in PL2 this coming Monday night with their first fixture of the season at St.James' Park.

Reading provide the opposition in a 7pm kick-off and it's expected that the usual admission arrangements will apply: free entry to season ticket holders, or else £3 adults and £1 concessions at East Stand turnstiles.

The Magpies sit tenth in the table with two games to play, requiring a top 16 finish to land a place in the end-of-season single match playoff round and a top eight spot to gain home advantage for that game.

Attaining a top 16 place also confirms qualification for next season's Premier League U21 International Cup.

2025/26:
PL fixture release
date revealed

The Premier League confirm that next season's fixtures will be released at 9am on Wednesday 18.06.2025.

The 2025/26 season will run from Saturday 16.08.2025 through to Sunday 24.05.2026.

Latest:
Fab: deal done

Update: NUFC confirmed on Thursday that a 12 month contract extension had been signed by Schar.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday morning, Eddie Howe confirmed that Fabian Schar was in the process of signing a contract extending his stay on Tyneside.

The former Swiss international defender turns 34 in December and has made 220 appearances scoring 19 goals since his £3m arrival from Deportivo La Coruna ahead of the 2018/19 season.

That leaves a trio of current squad members out of contact this summer - Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson and John Ruddy - plus Mark Gillespie and Jamal Lewis.

2025/26:

PL trio off to
Hong Kong

Monday brought confirmation that Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool will join AC Milan in a pre-season tournament staged at Hong Kong's new Kai Tak Stadium.

Speculation continues that Newcastle will play friendly matches in Asia ahead of next season, but there's no confirmation of any friendly matches as yet.

The I newspaper on Thursday mentioned a three game pre-season tour of Asia for United, repeating claims that Singapore will be on the itinerary and also mentioning South Korea for the first time we've seen.

Update:
Unhappy hour

On-loan Magpie Travis Hernes found himself in hot water following his current side Aalborg's 0-4 home defeat in the Danish SuperLiga last weekend.

The 19 year-old midfielder was one of three players who made what AaB described as an "untimely night club trip" following a squad meal and were spotted by disgruntled fans, with photos soon appearing on social media.

Hernes and the other two players issued a joint public apology for breaking club rules and the matter will be dealt with internally, said an AaB spokesman.

On This Day in History
4th April

Born Or Died:

1925 Death of Archie Turner, 47.
(1903-04)

1940 Death of Jimmy Hay, 59.
(1911-19)

1954 George Hope born, Haltwhistle.
(1971-75)

Striker who began his playing career with Haydon Bridge United, finding his way to SJP via an unsuccessful trial at Workington.

His first team debut for the Magpies came in a 0-1 reverse at Leicester in November 1973, but his first senior appearance at SJP the following week was more memorable.

Standing in for Malcolm Macdonald, George filled the number nine shirt to good effect, scoring the winner in a 3-2 home victory over Manchester United.

A handful of further first team outings followed, but after failing to make a single appearance in the 1974/75 season, moved on to join Charlton Athletic where he replaced former Magpie Arthur Horsfield.

Joining York City in 1976 (initially on loan), Hope ended his career in Belgium with Wezel Sport before returning to England and settling in the York area.

Half time guest at SJP on New Years Day 2007 against Manchester United, George worked at a car dealership on Humberside.

1989 Vurnon Anita born Willemstad, Curacao. (2012-17)

Born in the Dutch Antilles (a group of islands in the Caribbean), Vurnon moved to Holland with his family as a youngster and began his association with Ajax in 1999.

First representing Holland at U17 level in 2004, the midfielder's senior club debut for Ajax came two years later - 2010 bringing senior recognition against Mexico.

Beginning the 2012/13 season for Ajax against AZ Alkmaar, he made his Magpies bow from the bench less than a week later, as Spurs were beaten 2-1 on Tyneside.

Joining on a five year deal for a claimed £6.7m, his first goal arrived in November 2012 - a volley at Belgians Brugge in the Europa League.

Anita's debut Premier League strike followed when he bagged the final goal from point-blank range in an 4-1 away success at Hull during March 2014.

Appearing in both central midfield and as a stand-in left back, he reached a century of Premier League games for United in a 2-3 loss at Norwich in April 2016, just before his 27th birthday.

A fine goal against Manchester City earned new boss Rafa Benitez a vital point but it wasn't enough to prevent relegation.

Into the final season of his contract, Anita appeared in the Championship at right back and as a defensive midfielder.

However, he failed to win a new deal - reportedly due to high wage demands following relegation - and left.

Linked with a return to Holland, instead the free agent surfaced at Championship side Leeds United, debuted in a 2-3 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in August 2017.

However the arrival of Marco Bielsa ahead of the 2018/19 campaign saw Vurnon omitted from the senior squad and he returned to Holland on a season-long loan to Eredivisie side Willem II.

Anita reached agreement to terminate his contract and left Elland Road in September 2019, joining Bulgarians CSKA Sofia on a short-term deal the following February.

However the suspension of the Bulgarian season soon after saw him play just three games before securing his release.

Following the restarting of games back in Holland that June, Anita signed for RKC Waalwijk before joining Saudi Arabian First Division club Al-Orobah in June 2023.

January 2025 then brought an unforeseen move to Dutch second tier side Volendaam on a non-contract basis.

An unlikely international return came for him in March 2021, gaining permission to represent his birth country Curacao and making his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

1991 William Remy born Courbevoie, France. (2011)

Defender who was with Racing Club Lens in his native France when appearing for United reserves as a trialist during August 2011.

Remy - no relation to Magpies loan striker Loic - was joined in a pre-season training ground game against Gateshead by fellow Lens player Darnel Situ, although neither were retained and left soon after.

The pair had come to Tyneside after former Lens colleague Mehdi Abeid made a similar trip some months earlier and succeeded in winning a permanent deal with United.

A French youth international, Remy joined Dijon in 2012, where he played alongside former Magpie Romain Amalfitano.

And three years later he made the step up to top flight football in France after running down his contract, joining Montpellier as a free agent and becoming a regular starter.

After falling from favour there however, he joined Polish side Legia Warsaw in 2018, moving on to Belgians Virton in 2022.

William returned to Poland in February 2024 with second tier Zaglebie Sosnowiec.

The victory was also achieved without Malcolm Macdonald, who was sidelined with a knee injury but also suspended following his dismissal in the game against Bologna.

2002 The reserves fought out a goalless draw with title rivals Manchester United on a grassless pitch at Bury's Gigg Lane.

Coach Tommy Craig commented that "it was like playing on Whitley Bay beach"

2004 Passport applications from SR postcodes would be at their usual low levels, after Old Trafford again proved to be a lucky FA Cup semi-final venue for Newcastle fans.

Victory for the mackems in their tie against Millwall would have ensured a UEFA Cup spot but Dennis Wise & Co won 1-0 - perhaps the only time he was lauded on Tyneside.

The dismissal of Jason McAteer, George McCartney's open goal miss and numerous other mishaps for Mick Mcmackem's mob only added to the merriment as dreams of European adventures were shattered.

another gutless surrender

2005 After the Dyer-Bowyer bout two days earlier, a bit of light relief for the watching Graeme Souness came, as a rub of the green gave Birmingham the Kingston Park blues and us our first reserve success of 2005.

Marc Walton's deflected free-kick left former Toon 'keeper Ian Bennett stranded before City gave us another helping hand - or foot to be precise, Marcos Painter volleying a corner into his own net.

That ended the game as a contest - not that City had shown much interest in attack - and it was no real shock when Alan O'Brien got a third from the penalty spot near full time.

Having in his own words spent 30 games being "analytical and critical" of his former side as a pundit, Alan Shearer had a pitchside view of our plight as he took his managerial bow.

The man himself appeared just before kick-off and went straight into the home dugout as stewards restrained a posse of press snappers - no grand introductions, no waves, just straight on to the matter in hand.

And although it remained tantalisingly scoreless at half-time, by the hour mark we'd succumbed to a self-inflicted blow for a third successive game, Fabricio Coloccini twice failing to clear and Frank Lampard heading in

A second soon followed as Lampard teed up Florent Malouda to sweep a shot home and completely kill the atmosphere.

A Europa League first leg tie labelled as 'Mission Possible' by Alan Pardew got off to a dream start when Papiss Cisse netted - and then came desperately close soon after - his close-range deflected shot striking a post.

However, Benfica soon equalised and two defensive ricks gifted them further goals - the latter a twice-taken penalty after the first effort was denied for encroachment.

Loan midfielder Joe Willock came off the bench to net a potentially priceless equaliser as relegation continued to threaten United.

Ahead through Joelinton, Steve Bruce's side immediately gift-wrapped an equaliser for Harry Kane who then scored again to turn the game around completely in just seven minutes.

However, the deserved point arrived via Willock's close range finish, barely five minutes after taking to the field.
