U18s:
Third time unlucky
Stoke City U18s 5
Newcastle U18s
3
Newcastle U18s were beaten for the
first time away from home in 2025 on Saturday, losing a see-saw league
encounter at Stoke's Clayton Wood Academy.
Enjoying 4-2 and 4-1 victories over the Potters already this season, the
young Magpies found themselves two down at the interval; Charlie Wood
heading home following 29th and 42nd minute corner kicks.
Joe Brayson's 58th minute effort reduced the arrears before Matheos Ferreira
levelled six minutes later.
Back came the hosts and substitute Ryan Liu regained their lead on 71
minutes, only for United's Alex O'Donovan to restore parity within another
six minutes.
The Magpies had no answer to Pedro Nzau's 79th minute goal however and a
late penalty conversion from Lewis Bailey opened up a decisive two goal lead
for Stoke.
Team: Harrison, Bloomer, Cogdon, Johnson, Durrant, Taylor (Yildiz
85), Fitzgerald, Alabi, Brayson (Wooster 63), O'Donovan (Lucas 85),
Ferreira.
Subs n/u: Epia, Jones
Booked: Durrant
U21s:
Stiffs back at SJP
Newcastle U21s conclude their home
programme in PL2 this coming Monday night with their first fixture of the
season at St.James' Park.
Reading provide the opposition in a 7pm kick-off and it's
expected that the usual admission arrangements will apply: free entry to
season ticket holders, or else £3 adults and £1 concessions at East Stand
turnstiles.
The Magpies sit tenth in the table with two games to play, requiring a top
16 finish to land a place in the end-of-season single match playoff round
and a top eight spot to gain home advantage for that game.
Attaining a top 16 place also confirms qualification for next season's
Premier League U21 International Cup.

Leicester City (a)

Monday evening sees the Magpies in Premier League action against the
Foxes.
Kick-off at the King Power Stadium is 8pm
live on Sky Sports and Newcastle's 3,000 tickets are
sold out.
Away ticket forwarding is available until 3pm on Monday.
Team: Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles remain
unavailable but Anthony Gordon is free from suspension.
Speaking on Friday, Eddie Howe didn't give any specific updates as
to whether messrs Isak, Gordon, Joelinton or Trippier would be fit
enough to feature, but called their ailments niggles rather than
injuries.
Joelinton remains one caution away from a two game ban and Dan Burn
is two bookings away from suffering the same fate.

Leicester have lost all seven PL home games, conceding 18 goals and
scoring none - a barren scoring sequence currently standing at 630
minutes.
Tuesday saw Ruud van Nistelrooy's side beaten 0-2 at Manchester City
- their seventh consecutive PL loss. It's now 670 minutes since
their most recent PL goal.

League:
Thanks for nothing
As we predicted, the Premier League have
given two possible slots for the visit of Chelsea to SJP in May,
depending on their European status.
Should Chelsea win their Conference League quarter-final against
Legia Warsaw on Thu 10.04.2025 and Thu 17.04.2025, they will visit SJP for a
Noon KO on Sunday May 11th.
Should Chelsea lose their Conference League quarter-final against
Legia Warsaw on Thu 10.04.2025 and Thu 17.04.2025, they will visit SJP for a
12.30pm KO on Saturday May 10th.
Newcastle's confirmed PL games:
Mon 07.04.2025 Leicester City (a) 8pm Sky
Sun 13.04.2025 Man United (h) 4.30pm Sky
Wed 16.04.2025 Palace (h) 7.30pm Sky
Sat 19.04.2025 Aston Villa (a) 5.30pm Sky
Sat 26.04.2025 Ipswich Town (h) 3pm no TV
Sun 04.05.2025 Brighton (a) 2pm Sky
Sat 10.05.2025 tbc Chelsea (h) 12.30pm TNT
Sun 25.05.2025 Everton (h) 4pm TV tbc*
The date and KO time of one game remains tbc:
Sun 18.05.2025 tbc Arsenal (a) TV tbc (if any)
The deadline for confirming was this Friday, but as expected, nothing was
forthcoming from the PL.
No PL games will be played on Sat 17.05.2025 to avoid clashing with the FA
Cup Final, but in theory we could visit the Emirates on Fri 16.05.2025, Sun
18.05.2025 or Mon 19.05.2025.
We did speculate on whether the rescheduling of the Arsenal versus Crystal
Palace game would have any bearing on when we faced The Gunners - that will
now take place on Wed 23.04.2025 so becomes irrelevant.
* The final PL games will all kick off at the same date and time
regardless of whether they are chosen for TV or not. Those TV selections
will be announced following the penultimate round of PL games.

Latest:
Fab: deal done
Update: NUFC confirmed on Thursday
that a 12 month contract extension had been signed by Schar.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday
morning, Eddie Howe confirmed that Fabian Schar was in the process of
signing a contract extending his stay on Tyneside.
The former Swiss international defender turns 34 in December and has made
220 appearances scoring 19 goals since his £3m arrival from Deportivo La
Coruna ahead of the 2018/19 season.
That leaves a trio of current squad members out of contact this
summer - Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson and John Ruddy - plus Mark
Gillespie and Jamal Lewis.
2025/26:
PL trio off to
Hong Kong
Monday brought confirmation that Arsenal,
Spurs and Liverpool will join AC Milan in a pre-season tournament staged at
Hong Kong's new Kai Tak Stadium.
Speculation continues that Newcastle will play friendly matches in Asia
ahead of next season, but there's no confirmation of any friendly matches as
yet.
The I newspaper on Thursday mentioned a three game pre-season
tour of Asia for United, repeating claims that Singapore will be on the
itinerary and also mentioning South Korea for the first time we've seen.
Update:
Unhappy hour
On-loan Magpie Travis Hernes found
himself in hot water following his current side Aalborg's 0-4 home defeat in
the Danish SuperLiga last weekend.
The 19 year-old midfielder was one of three players who made what AaB
described as an "untimely night club trip" following a squad meal
and were spotted by disgruntled fans, with photos soon appearing on social
media.
Hernes and the other two players issued a joint public apology for breaking
club rules and the matter will be dealt with internally, said an AaB
spokesman.

Born Or Died:
1901 George Guyan born, Aberdeen,
Scotland. (1923)
 Centre
forward who arrived at Gallowgate in later January 1923 on a month's trial
from Scottish Junior side Banks o' Dee.
After similar stints at Aberdeen, Dundee, Raith Rovers and Dumbarton had
failed to secure a transfer, George was no luckier at Gallowgate but did sign
for South Shields.
Hull City manager and former Magpie Bill McCracken then persuaded the Tigers
to break their transfer record for him in 1926.
Guyan later played for Connah’s Quay Nomads, Exeter City, Swindon Town,
Rochdale, Bath City and Irish side Distillery.

The visit of the Duke of York to Tyneside (later
George V) was commemorated by this alleged friendly encounter.
United's goal came when a spot-kick
was awarded for handball. Joe Wallace took the kick and sent it high over the bar
but referee Mr W. Chard of Gateshead ordered a retake, ruling that visiting
captain Hughie Wilson had charged
the kicker on his run-up.
Disgusted, Wilson ordered his goalkeeper Ned Doig to vacate the goal and left Willie Graham with an an empty net
to put the ball into.

A crowd estimated by some reports at 70,000 packed

the 25 policemen on duty failed to clear the pitch
sufficiently for the match to begin.
And once the referee abandoned the game without a ball
being kicked, widespread fighting broke out and the
goals were torn down.
Had the visitors played and won they would have gone
four points clear at the top with just three games
remaining.

24 hours after beating
Scottish side Queens Park at Gallowgate, Newcastle
were again in friendly action, this time in Belfast.
The visitors trailed 0-3 at one stage thanks to a
treble from Jimmy Soye (who would end up at
Gallowgate in 1906 via Southampton).
Unieted staged a revival though and won it,
after Distillery's Bill McCracken missed a penalty
with the score standing at 4-4.
Within weeks of this game at Grosvenor Park, Newcastle
had completed the signing of McCracken from their hosts.
Across Belfast earlier the same day, the mackems ran
out 5-1 winners against Cliftonville at Solitude.
"The four walls of Belfast will today contain the
creme de la creme of English, Irish and Scotch
football talent" opined The Northern Whig.

There was a light covering of snow on the City

Leeds 'keeper John Potts did his best to keep

Relegation-haunted United were boosted by the
availability of Hughie Gallacher, who turned down
the opportunity to represent Scotland against
England.
He had a quiet game though and his side
levelled after the Gunners went down to ten
men - outfield player William Johnstone going in
goal after visiting custodian Dan Lewis was carried off.
While the game was in progress, a turnstile operator
at St. James' Park was reportedly robbed of £110.

The red and whites climbed into fifth spot however and would remain unbeaten in

Michael Gray's first half goal was belatedly
cancelled out by Alan Shearer on his return to the
side following groin surgery.
The visitors included SJP old boys Chris Waddle,

Newcastle just about deserved to win their first
FA Cup Semi-Final tie since 1974, but the
second-tier Blades had chances before and after Alan
Shearer's close-range strike.
Goalkeeper Alan Kelly blocked Shearer's initial
header from a John Barnes centre, but was powerless
to prevent the striker pouncing on the loose ball in
front of Old Trafford's Stretford End.
Victory was a welcome diversion from a winless
league run of seven games that left Kenny Dalglish's
side languishing in fifteenth.
The Manager commented "they (the fans)
deserve better than some of the stuff they've been
serving up and a day out at Wembley isn't a bad
reward."

Kevin Nolan then thumped a scissor-kick past mackem-loving 'keeper Steve Simonsen - his 15th of the season

In stark contrast to the 1-0 success at Old Trafford
