League:
Sunday date for
Chelsea looms
Thursday evening saw Chelsea win the first
leg of their Conference League quarter-final tie, defeating Legia Warsaw 3-0
in Poland.
Assuming no unforeseen turnaround in next Thursday's second leg, Enzo
Maresca's side will advance to the last four, meaning that their Premier
League visit to SJP will be played at Noon on Sunday May 11th.
Confirmation of the date and KO time of United's away game against Arsenal
is still to be announced by the Premier League, although their own published deadline for
doing so was Friday of last week.
No PL games will be played on Sat 17.05.2025 to avoid clashing with the FA
Cup Final that day, but in theory Newcastle could visit the Emirates on Fri 16.05.2025, Sun
18.05.2025 or Mon 19.05.2025.

United (h)
The Magpies face the Red Devils in
a 4.30pm kick-off at SJP on Sunday. It's live on Sky
Sports.
Team: Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal
Lascelles remain unavailable, while Anthony Gordon is yet to recommence
training since pulling out of the England squad last month and Joe Willock
won't be allowed to feature in accordance with concussion protocols.
Joelinton and Dan Burn continue to walk the suspension tightrope, the
Brazilian needing to avoid a booking in the next two games in order to evade
a two game ban.
Blyth's favourite son meanwhile will miss out on a similar punishment
assuming that doesn't pick up yellow cards in both of Newcastle's next two
fixtures.

2025/26:
Milestone reached:
more funds needed
Former Magpie Alan Shearer appeared on BBC Breakfast earlier this
week
here as the
charity fundraising efforts of his foundation smashed through the £7m
barrier.
Those funds helped establish The Alan
Shearer Centre, offering support to over 5,000 people
in the region with profound disabilities and acute sensory impairments.
The running costs of that facility have now rocketed from £250K to £320K
annually, meaning that Wor Al is now calling for additional support from the
public:
"I founded the Alan Shearer Foundation to make a real difference to
the lives of people with a wide range of abilities and complex needs.
"To keep the activity centre free for our members, we now need to raise
an additional £70,000 every year.
"The funds raised enable our members and their families to access
life-enhancing therapies like hydrotherapy and sensory play without
increased strain on family finances.
"Every donation, fundraising event and contribution — however big or
small — helps us to maintain and grow these vital facilities and ensures
that people get the care and experiences they deserve.
"We need to do more if we are to help and support families who require
specialist care facilities.”

Defender extension
details emerge
The Athletic report that Jamaal Lascelles has agreed a
contract extension that will keep him at SJP until summer 2026, not 2025 as
was previously assumed.
It's claimed that a deal for an additional 12 months was done late last
year, but no official announcement has yet come from the player or
club.
The 31 year-old defender joined United from Nottingham Forest back in 2014,
making the first of 251 league and cup appearances in September 2015.
Suffering an ACL injury during a home victory over West Ham in March 2024,
Lascelles is yet to kick a ball this season but has recently returned to
training.
U21s:
Citizen's
test for Stiffs

With their place in the one-off
playoff round confirmed,
Newcastle U21s play their final regular game of the PL2 season this
coming Monday evening (7pm).
The opponents at the Joie Stadium are a Manchester City
side who sit two points clear of their nearest challengers Fulham at
the top of the table, enjoying a vastly superior goal difference
over the Cottagers.
At the same time as City are hosting Newcastle in their last game,
Fulham close out their fixtures against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood
Park.
The Magpies are currently ninth but
could end up anywhere between fifth and eleventh.
The top eight teams then host
one additional playoff round game each against the sides finishing
ninth to sixteenth, with the first place finisher hosting the
sixteenth, second the fifteenth etc.
Those 16 teams won't be confirmed until after the final two regular
games of the season take place on Friday week (18th).
Advance tickets are on sale now online here
priced at £3 adults and £1 concessions. It's unclear whether
walk-ups will be accepted on the night.
This will be the first time that any Newcastle side has played at
City's purpose-built ground for development and Women's teams that
opened in 2014.
PS: U21 midfielder Ellis Stanton has confirmed his release by United
via social media in recent days.
U19s:

Newcastle begin their U19 Dallas Cup campaign against reigning
Super Group champions Sao Paulo this Sunday, facing the Brazilians in the

against Mexicans Tigres at the Toyota Soccer Centre.

The original Cotton Bowl Stadium opened in 1930 and had a maximum capacity
of 75,000. It hosted six matches during the 1994 World Cup Finals.

Newcastle U18s were beaten for the
first time away from home in 2025 on Saturday, losing a see-saw league
encounter at Stoke's Clayton Wood Academy.
Enjoying 4-2 and 4-1 victories over the Potters already this season, the
young Magpies found themselves two down at the interval; Charlie Wood
heading home following 29th and 42nd minute corner kicks.
Joe Brayson's 58th minute effort reduced the arrears before Matheos Ferreira
levelled six minutes later.
Back came the hosts and substitute Ryan Liu regained their lead on 71
minutes, only for United's Alex O'Donovan to restore parity within another
six minutes.
The Magpies had no answer to Pedro Nzau's 79th minute goal however and a
late penalty conversion from Lewis Bailey opened up a decisive two goal lead
for Stoke.

Born Or Died:
1974 Andreas Andersson born,
Osterhoninge Sweden. (1998-99)

A Swedish international who won a
domestic title with Gothenburg, Andersson moved to AC Milan but struggled in
Serie A and was acquired by Kenny Dalglish - who claimed that he'd had 100
strikers scouted before deciding to bring him to Tyneside.
The other 99 must have been truly bloody dreadful, as he failed to
impress on his debut away to Aston Villa in February 1998 and little changed in
the following 14 months before his final first team outing.
Belatedly breaking his scoring duck at the tenth time of asking at home to
Barnsley, Andersson then netted in the next game to force a draw at Old
Trafford.
However, he continued to show a singular lack of appetite for the fight; maybe
he'd have fared better if he'd dumped the Alice band in favour of a short back
and sides...
Ending the season with a woeful substitute outing in the FA Cup Final loss to
Arsenal, his next goal came early the following season in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea
before Ruud Gullit's installation as manager.
The fourth and final senior goal of his time in Toon came just after Christmas
1998 during a 2-4 loss at Anfield, a month after United had invested £8m in
the rather more forceful forward talent of Duncan Ferguson.
Losing his place in the senior squad, by the end of the 1998/99 season
Andersson was reduced to scuffing about in Pontins League Division 2 for United
reserves, hitting four in a 6-1 home win over the footballing might that is
Lincoln City Reserves.
What proved to be his final sighting in a Newcastle shirt came in a pre-season
game against Dutch minnows Helmond Sport in July 1999, United recouping £2m of
their £3m outlay a month later when Andreas returned to Sweden with AIK Solna.
A serious knee injury sustained in 2003 would prompt his retirement two years
later, although he did subsequently appear for Swedish lower league sides Hova
IF and FC Andrea Doria.
1985 Jesus Gamez born, Fuengirola, Spain.
(2016-18)

United deviated from their transfer age
range when acquiring this 31 year-old full back from Atletico Madrid during
July 2016.
Beginning his career in Malaga's B team, Jesus was promoted to the senior side
for the first time in November 2005.
The following nine seasons saw Gamez make over 250 appearances for Malaga,
helping them gain promotion, becoming captain and playing in the Champions
League.
Facing United in the Schalke 04 Cup during August 2014, within days he'd
completed a £4.3m move to Atletico Madrid where he featured at both left and
right back.
Entering the final year of his deal in 2016, a return to Malaga looked likely
until an offer to join fellow countryman Rafa Benitez on Tyneside was
made.
Featuring in pre-season, Gamez was sent off during a 4-0 win at Lokeren for the
Spanish equivalent of handbags with an opponent.
However, fitness issues delayed Jesus' debut until he played at left back in a
2-0 home win over Cheltenham Town in August 2016.
A collarbone injury sustained in a home loss to Blackburn Rovers then kept him
sidelined until he appeared in the woeful FA Cup loss at Oxford United the
following January.
Briefly appearing in the side towards the end of the Championship-winning
season, Gamez made his Premier League debut and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win
at Swansea City during September 2017.
However, what proved to be his final outing for the club came a fortnight later
away to Brighton and he spent the remainder of the season out with an ankle
problem.
Jesus departed in May 2018 having played ten games from a possible 94 and
amassed 558 competitive minutes on the field - one of Rafa Benitez's
less inspired acquisitions.
He doesn't appear to have played since.
2000 Adam Wilson born, Ashington.
(2016-22)

Winger with United from the age of ten, who began his career
at Newcastle City Juniors.
Debuting for the U18s at Blackburn Rovers in
January 2016, Adam signed a two-year scholarship with Newcastle later that
year.
Blooded at reserve level against Hartlepool United in October 2017,
Wilson's maiden strike came at Swansea four months after.
International recognition came his way two months later, selected by
England U18 for a four team friendly tournament at
St. George's Park and debuting against Qatar.
Adam then ended the season in possession of a Northumberland Senior Cup
winner's medal following victory over Morpeth Town at SJP.
Signing his first professional contract in July 2018, Wilson was selected by
Rafa Benitez to train with the Magpies first team, but missed part of the
U23s season through injury.
More fitness issues saw Adam missing for large periods over the following seasons
before returning to the U23s in 2021/22. Released in Summer 2022
after scoring at Aston Villa on what proved to be his final appearance, he
joined Welsh Premier League side The New Saints, helping them to the
championship in his first season and qualification for the Champions League.
Adam joined Bradford City in August 2023 but returned to The New Saints 12
months later.

Visiting manager Don Revie was content to tell reporters afterwards that, "any

However some over-elaboration in the box meant that Foxes 'keeper Mark

At the third time of asking, Ossie Ardiles saw his side collect their first
point and net for the first time since his arrival.
The game had been abandoned at half time due to heavy rain some three weeks
earlier with United 1-0 ahead through Mick Quinn.
Fellow striker Andy Hunt's first senior goal for the club opened the scoring
this time round; a fine bicycle kick at the Leazes End.
Magpies 'keeper John Burridge then palmed Paul Simpson's shot into the net for
1-1.
Quinn optimistically claimed his side's second after he flicked on Steve
Watson's throw-in into the path of Andy Melville, who headed firmly into his own
goal.
Future Magpie coach Paul Simpson bagged salvaged a point for Brian Horton's U's
when a late long-range strike flew into the top left hand corner of John
Burridge's goal.

would be the eighth and last defeat of our promotion season came at a sunny
Molineux.
Top scorer Steve Bull was
missing for Wolves, but Andy Mutch fired home from close range after stand-in
striker Mark Rankine centred.
Having netted five times in three games, Andy Cole drew a blank while David
Kelly was denied an equaliser for a handball decision on a day when United
looked distinctly jaded.
Magpies boss Kevin Keegan came over all John McCririck post-match:
"The lads can see the winning post; we are sat with the best horse with the
right jockey on board, but we have still got to make sure we don't misjudge the
race."

tale of two errors at White Hart Lane, but while Spurs got away with theirs -
the Magpies didn't.
Returning after three months, full
back Celestine Babayaro laid a ball to Steve Harper. However his weak
clearance was blocked by Simon Davies - the deflection falling nicely
for Jermaine Defoe to net.
It was a disappointing moment for Harps, playing his first top-flight away game since appearing here back in
January 2001.
In the second half, Paul Robinson then tried a short pass to
the unaware Anthony Gardner. In nipped James Milner and only needed to chip the ball over
the Spurs 'keeper but instead screwed his effort horribly wide.

In the end it was Villa who took all three points with a simple header but
neither team deserved credit for a tortuous display in front of a live TV
audience who presumably nodded off after their Sunday roasts.
United ended the game with a front duo of Peter Lovenkrands and Shefki Kuqi
