2025/26:
Singapore date set
Newcastle have confirmed their first
friendly fixture ahead of next season, facing Arsenal at the Singapore
National Stadium on Sunday 27th July.
The kick-off time isn't listed by NUFC, but Arsenal now have it as
7.30pm local time (12.30pm BST).
This match is part of an overseas pre-season tour, with further stops still
to be announced, amid claims of possible visits to Hong Kong and South
Korea.
Tickets for what is billed as the Singapore Festival of Football go on sale
on Friday 25th April - further details are awaited.
The venue holds 55,000 and is built on the site of the former National
Stadium - visited by United in August 1996 when Kevin Keegan's side scored
five goals without reply to defeat an S League Select XI.
The Gunners face AC Milan at the same ground four days earlier and following
our game, move on to Hong Kong for a kickabout against Spurs four days
later.
The Serie A side meanwhile face Liverpool in Hong Kong on July 26th.

The Magpies face the Red Devils in
a 4.30pm kick-off at SJP on Sunday. It's live on Sky
Sports.
Team: Deputising for illness victim Eddie
Howe, Jason Tindall spoke to the media on Friday. He confirmed that Anthony Gordon
is now back in training and a possible inclusion in Sunday's squad.
Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal
Lascelles remain unavailable and Joe Willock
won't be allowed to feature in accordance with concussion protocols.
Joelinton and Dan Burn continue to walk the suspension tightrope, the
Brazilian needing to avoid a booking in the next two games in order to evade
a two game ban.
Blyth's favourite son meanwhile will miss out on a similar punishment
assuming that doesn't pick up yellow cards in both of Newcastle's next two
fixtures.

Crystal Palace (12).

Sunday date for
Chelsea looms
Thursday evening saw Chelsea win the first
leg of their Conference League quarter-final tie, defeating Legia Warsaw 3-0
in Poland.
Assuming no unforeseen turnaround in next Thursday's second leg, Enzo
Maresca's side will advance to the last four, meaning that their Premier
League visit to SJP will be played at Noon on Sunday May 11th.
Confirmation of the date and KO time of United's away game against Arsenal
is still to be announced by the Premier League, although their own published deadline for
doing so was Friday of last week.
No PL games will be played on Sat 17.05.2025 to avoid clashing with the FA
Cup Final that day, but in theory Newcastle could visit the Emirates on Fri 16.05.2025, Sun
18.05.2025 or Mon 19.05.2025.

Milestone reached:
more funds needed
Former Magpie Alan Shearer appeared on BBC Breakfast earlier this
week
here as the
charity fundraising efforts of his foundation smashed through the £7m
barrier.
Those funds helped establish The Alan
Shearer Centre, offering support to over 5,000 people
in the region with profound disabilities and acute sensory impairments.
The running costs of that facility have now rocketed from £250K to £320K
annually, meaning that Wor Al is now calling for additional support from the
public:
"I founded the Alan Shearer Foundation to make a real difference to
the lives of people with a wide range of abilities and complex needs.
"To keep the activity centre free for our members, we now need to raise
an additional £70,000 every year.
"The funds raised enable our members and their families to access
life-enhancing therapies like hydrotherapy and sensory play without
increased strain on family finances.
"Every donation, fundraising event and contribution — however big or
small — helps us to maintain and grow these vital facilities and ensures
that people get the care and experiences they deserve.
"We need to do more if we are to help and support families who require
specialist care facilities.”

Defender extension
details emerge
The Athletic report that Jamaal Lascelles has agreed a
contract extension that will keep him at SJP until summer 2026, not 2025 as
was previously assumed.
It's claimed that a deal for an additional 12 months was done late last
year, but no official announcement has yet come from the player or
club.
The 31 year-old defender joined United from Nottingham Forest back in 2014,
making the first of 251 league and cup appearances in September 2015.
Suffering an ACL injury during a home victory over West Ham in March 2024,
Lascelles is yet to kick a ball this season but has recently returned to
training.
U21s:
Citizen's
test for Stiffs

With their place in the one-off
playoff round confirmed,
Newcastle U21s play their final regular game of the PL2 season this
coming Monday evening (7pm).
The opponents at the Joie Stadium are a Manchester City
side who sit two points clear of their nearest challengers Fulham at
the top of the table, enjoying a vastly superior goal difference
over the Cottagers.
At the same time as City are hosting Newcastle in their last game,
Fulham close out their fixtures against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood
Park.
The Magpies are currently ninth but
could end up anywhere between fifth and eleventh.
The top eight teams then host
one additional playoff round game each against the sides finishing
ninth to sixteenth, with the first place finisher hosting the
sixteenth, second the fifteenth etc.
Those 16 teams won't be confirmed until after the final two regular
games of the season take place on Friday week (18th).
Advance tickets are on sale now online here
priced at £3 adults and £1 concessions. It's unclear whether
walk-ups will be accepted on the night.
This will be the first time that any Newcastle side has played at
City's purpose-built ground for development and Women's teams that
opened in 2014.
PS: U21 midfielder Ellis Stanton has confirmed his release by United
via social media in recent days.
U19s:

Newcastle U18s were beaten for the
first time away from home in 2025 on Saturday, losing a see-saw league
encounter at Stoke's Clayton Wood Academy.
Enjoying 4-2 and 4-1 victories over the Potters already this season, the
young Magpies found themselves two down at the interval; Charlie Wood
heading home following 29th and 42nd minute corner kicks.
Joe Brayson's 58th minute effort reduced the arrears before Matheos Ferreira
levelled six minutes later.
Back came the hosts and substitute Ryan Liu regained their lead on 71
minutes, only for United's Alex O'Donovan to restore parity within another
six minutes.
The Magpies had no answer to Pedro Nzau's 79th minute goal however and a
late penalty conversion from Lewis Bailey opened up a decisive two goal lead
for Stoke.

Born Or Died:
1974 Tony Caig born,
Whitehaven.
(2002-06)

Goalkeeper who came on
trial from Scottish side Hibernian in October 2002, completing a free transfer to United
three months later.
Beginning his career at Carlisle United, Caig also appeared for Blackpool and
spent time with Charlton Athletic, but only played once for the Addicks before moving to
Easter Road.
Like Lionel Perez before him, Tony never made a competitive appearance for
United and aside from reserve outings, his senior action was confined to
appearing from the bench for a handful of pre-season games.
Included in the squad for a July 2004 friendly in Thailand, Caig played in a
penalty shootout that United lost, while the following year saw him feature
against both Yeading at home and Malaga away.
Aside from first team bench duty though, his only genuine senior action while
at SJP came in January 2004, when he played three times on loan for Barnsley.
Released by United in May 2006, Caig moved to Canada with
Vancouver Whitecaps.
However, he returned to the UK on the eve of the 2007/08 season, joining
Gretna as an amateur following Vancouver's refusal to release him from his
playing contract.
January 2008 saw Tony return over the Atlantic, signing for MLS side Houston
Dynamo. Within a year though Tony was back in Enlgand and joined League Two
side Chesterfield on a short-term deal.
Failing to make an appearance for the Spireites, Caig signed for Workington and
then rejoined Carlisle United as their part-time goalkeeping coach in 2009.
Agreeing a player/coach deal at Brunton Park in the summer of 2010, Tony later
sat on the first team substitutes bench but wasn't called into action again.
Subsequently continuing purely coaching role at Carlisle, he ran his own
goalkeeping school and joined the staff at Hartlepool
United.
Tony then had a spell assisting Lee Clark at League One Bury in 2017, before
taking up a coaching role at Newcastle's Academy.
April 2018 saw him acting as a stop-gap goalkeeping coach for United's U23
side against Reading at the Adams Park home of Wycombe Wanderers.
He then moved on to Livingston, joining Dundee United in 2021 via a brief
stint at Falkirk.
March 2022 found Caig back on Tyneside, appointed as United's Head of
Academy Goalkeeping and he spent his 50th birthday working with the club's
senior custodians, following an injury to first team coach Shwan Jalal.
1991 Nile Ranger born, London.
(2008-13)

Blessed with bags of pace and potential, there was a
time when this striker was placed in the same bracket by Newcastle as Andy
Carroll - secured on a lengthy deal as
an asset to be protected.
Beginning his career as a schoolboy with Crystal Palace before joining
Southampton's Academy in 2007, Ranger was released by the Saints the following
year due to reported off-field issues.
Linking up with Swindon Town in pre-season he instantly impressed and word got
back to Newcastle Director of Recruitment Dennis Wise, who brought Ranger to Tyneside.
Scoring against Motherwell in a behind closed doors training ground game, a
deal was quickly agreed to dissuade him from joining Swindon and Ranger then
netted on his competitive debut, against Leicester City U18s in August 2008.
Just one week later he found himself on the first team bench at Arsenal,
selected by Kevin Keegan as he sought to compensate for the absence of Viduka
and Martins.
He wasn't called into action that day, but showed an appetite for goals at both
U18 and Academy level that had taken him to the 20 goal mark by the turn of the
year.
Winning the Sport Newcastle "Wor Jackie" Award, international
recognition followed for England U19s against the Czech Republic.
The arrival of Alan Shearer as manager seemed to give Nile the perfect coach to
see him hone his undoubted skills - Al quick to praise him and name him on the
bench.
There was to be no Premier League debut, but Chris Hughton handed Ranger his
first competitive appearance in our Championship season opener at West Bromwich
Albion.
A first start came later that month against Leicester City and he got off the
mark at Coventry City in December 2009.
However, his progress was halted by the mid-season arrival of Leon Best from
Coventry and the return to fitness of Shola Ameobi, although he netted at SJP
against Crystal Palace in January 2010.
Scoring in the 4-3 Carling Cup success at Stamford Bridge in September 2010,
the sale of Andy Carroll and a lack of available striking cover then saw Ranger
remain at SJP, rather than go on loan to a lower league club as had been
expected.
Agreeing a five and a half year contract extension in December 2010, Ranger
made a clutch of substitute appearances followed by an undistinguished first
Premier League start 24 hours before his 20th birthday, in a 0-1 loss away to
Aston Villa.
The 2011/12 season however was a mixture of injuries, loan spells and
excursions to Tyneside police stations and courtrooms, manager Alan Pardew
making it clear that Ranger's unacceptable behaviour had seen him excluded from
his squad plans.
A five game loan at Barnsley in late 2011 was curtailed through injury without
Nile scoring, but he did find the net when sent to Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
A list of off-field misdemeanours that began after taking part in a street
robbery aged 15 and serving 11 weeks in a young offenders' institution then
steadily lengthened.
Drink-driving, drunk & disorderly and assault charges followed, in addition
to an FA fine for tweeting homophobic abuse - and a host of other daft acts,
including posing with a fake firearm for photos later posted online.
Farcically, a court order excluding him from the City centre in the
evenings had to be amended in order to allow him to take part in midweek home
games.
A continual inability to follow club rules over timekeeping and discipline
would also cost the self-proclaimed gangster dear.
What proved to be his final season at SJP saw him come off the bench at Stoke
in November 2012. A similar role two months later at home to Everton sandwiched
starts away to Bordeaux in the Europa League and at Brighton in the FA Cup.
United lost all four games, Ranger was utterly awful.
A month after his last game for the reserves against Stoke, Newcastle finally
moved to terminate his contract in March 2013, amid widespread relief tinged
with exasperation at the almost wilful discarding of a promising career by the
alleged professional.
Within days Ranger was back in the news for assaulting his girlfriend.
Admitting the offence, he was ordered to do community service and also advised
by the magistrates to address an unspecified gambling issue.
Joined Swindon Town in August 2013 on a two year deal, he scored ten times in
28 appearances but again misbehaved off the field and went AWOL several times
before a hamstring injury ended his season.
March 2014 saw him on Tyneside for trial at Newcastle Crown Court, only to
be found not guilty of a rape charge in a Jesmond hotel back in January 2013
(his lawyer later claimed that a loan to Hull City was
cancelled following this arrest).
It also then emerged that Ranger had been arrested yet again during that trial,
after failing to attend court in Wales on an outstanding drink-driving charge.
And within days, Nile found himself in custody once more, on suspicion of causing
criminal damage to a taxi in Liverpool.
A playing return came with Blackpool in August 2014 but Ranger went AWOL three
months later and played no further part as the Tangerines were relegated under manager Lee
Clark.
He resurfaced at Rotherham United in February 2016 when Neil Warnock gave
Ranger a trial but he wasn't offered a contract by the Millers.
Making a more favourable impression at Southend United, Nile missed much of the
2016/17 pre-season through injury (including a game against Newcastle) but did
enough to win a 12 month deal at Roots Hall.
That was extended in December but true to form Ranger was back in court soon
after,
pleading guilty to a fraud charge and then suspended pending an FA
investigation into a "breach of discipline".
By February 2017 that had been confirmed as a failed drugs test, with traces of
cocaine and MDMA found in his sample.
Ranger's return to the team saw him score five goals in just six games -
the best form of his senior career - but a further brush with the law resulted
in a prison spell for fraud during May 2017.
Released in August, he played with an ankle tag and was initially unable to
feature in midweek games due to curfew restrictions.
However, his contract with the Shrimpers was abruptly terminated in January 2018 for
"reoccurring disciplinary issues" that reportedly included bad
timekeeping.
Incredibly, Southend gave Ranger yet another chance in February 2021 but he
sustained a ruptured groin after just 11 minutes of his comeback game.
2021/22 saw Nile at National League side Boreham Wood although
only featuring as an occasional substitute in an FA Cup run that saw them beat AFC Wimbledon and Bournemouth
before losing at Everton in the Fifth Round. He emerged in typical fashion ahead of the 2023 Carabao Cup Final, trying to flog 100 tickets for up to £2,150 on
Instagram.
Ranger resurfaced at Kettering Town in the 2024/25 season, agreeing a one year
deal after scoring seven goals in
ten games for the Southern League Poppies.

1999 Jesus Nunez Cumbreras born, Huelva, Spain.
(2016-19)
Known as Juanito, United signed this attacker from
Spanish third-tier club Recreativo de Huelva in November 2016.
Appearing in a training ground reserve game against Kilmarnock the following
January, Jesus was listed as a trialist when facing Hebburn Town that April.
Although appearing in U23 pre-season games during 2017,
Juanito hadn't made a competitive reserve bow when loaned to Spanish side
Deportivo La Coruna the following January.
Back on Tyneside the following season, a competitive bow followed during a
2-4 U23 home loss to Reading in September 2018.
Cumbreras featured mainly from the bench during the 2018/19 season, making half a dozen
starts and scoring twice.
Released in July 2019, he returned to Spain, playing for Gerena, Onubense, Ayamonte,
La Palma and Atletico Calanas.
