Premier League:
Aston Villa (a)

Saturday sees Newcastle looking to extend their winning streak to seven league and cup games when they go to Villa Park for a 5.30pm live on Sky Sports

After a 1-0 success at West Ham and 3-0 victory at Leicester, the Magpies are aiming for a third successive Premier League away victory and what would be their ninth in total on the road so far this season.

The first meeting of the teams ended in a 3-0 home win at Gallowgate; another three point haul for United would seal their seventh PL double of the season so far.

That game at SJP saw Jason Tindall red-carded in the wake of a half time incident in the tunnel, one of the Villa backroom team punished similarly.

FA charges were subsequently issued against both parties, Tindall escaping censure as his charge wasn't proven but the Villan in question fined and banned.

Both clubs lodged guilty pleas to charges of failing to control their players and staff and were fined, United shelling out £20,000 and Villa £30,000.

All 3,000 away tickets are sold out, with forwarding possible until 12.30pm on matchday.

City centre bars with live TV coverage include:

The Dog & Parrot on Clayton Street West.
Frate in the Bigg Market.
Pumphreys in the Bigg Market.

The game will be live at WonderBar in The Gate.

Team:
United have no new injury issues, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles all still unavailable.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 9/5
The draw 13/5
AVFC win 11/8

New customers receive a £20 bet when staking £5 (T's & C's apply). Find those markets online here

AVFC: Villa have a fully fit squad to select from.

Along with Liverpool and Arsenal, Villa have lost just once at home in the PL this season - beaten 0-2 by the Gunners in August. Since then, 15 PL fixtures at Villa Park have brought eight wins and seven draws.

The Villans hosted PSG on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League Quarter-final tie. Trailing 1-3, they conceded twice more before mounting a titanic comeback to score three times, but failed to find the fourth goal required to force extra time.

After our visit, Unai Emery's side go to Manchester City the following Tuesday before their FA Cup Semi-final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday week.

Referee: Jarred Gillett - a third Magpies appointment of the season for the Australian-born official, following the 1-1 home draw with Manchester City and the 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest at Gallowgate.

Cordero claims

Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that Newcastle had reached agreement to sign Antonio Cordero from Spanish side Malaga.

The 18 year-old right winger is out of contract at the end of the current season, Newcastle reportedly scouting him several times and credited with an interest in sealing a deal since the turn of the year.

Spanish youth international Cordero debuted for Malaga during the 2023/24 season when they gained promotion from the third tier and has featured regularly in the Segunda Division this time round, scoring five times.

England began their Group B campaign with a 3-2 victory over Japan in Ardelay on Tuesday. Goalkeeper George was in the starting line-up and midfielder Sam started on the bench - we're unsure whether the latter featured.

Next up was a 0-3 loss at the hands of Mexico in La Chataigneraie on Thursday, with Sam in the starting line-up at George dropping down to the bench.

Update:
Defender extension
details emerge

The Athletic report that Jamaal Lascelles has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at SJP until summer 2026, not 2025 as was previously assumed.

It's claimed that a deal for an additional 12 months was done late last year, but no official announcement has yet come from the player or club.

The 31 year-old defender joined United from Nottingham Forest back in 2014, making the first of 251 league and cup appearances in September 2015.

Suffering an ACL injury during a home victory over West Ham in March 2024, Lascelles is yet to kick a ball this season but has recently returned to training.

Born Or Died:

1984 Death of Stan Barber, 75.
(1925-28)

1987 Danny Guthrie born, Shrewsbury.
(2008-12)

Midfielder who began his career as a youngster at Manchester United's Academy, switching to Liverpool when aged 16.

Making a senior bow from the bench for Reds at home to Reading in the League Cup in October 2006, a Premier League outing followed a month later.

February 2007 saw Danny appear as a substitute in a 2-1 loss to United at SJP - his seventh and final senior game for Liverpool.

Guthrie then joined Southampton on loan for a 12 game stint which ended when the Saints lost to Derby County in the Championship playoff semi-finals.

The following season saw him on loan at Bolton Wanderers and part of the Trotters side who drew 0-0 on Tyneside in January 2008, slightly spoiling Kevin Keegan's return as Newcastle manager.

Returning to Anfield, Guthrie agreed to join Newcastle in July 2008 at a claimed cost of £2.5m, signing a four year deal.

Providing an assist and goal on his first outing in pre-season against Hartlepool, another strike came against PSV Eindhoven at SJP.

Guthrie then debuted alongside fellow new boys Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the league.

However, his first setback as a Magpie came in the infamous Hull City home game that saw fan protest both inside and outside SJP following KK's departure.

Guthrie was deservedly dismissed in the final minute after a terrible lunge on Craig Fagan that left the Tigers player with a broken leg.

Returning to a side "managed" by Joe Kinnear, Guthrie scored in successive away games at Portsmouth and Wigan.

An injury at Blackburn in January 2009 put him out for three months, returning against Chelsea as Alan Shearer became Magpies boss.

Moving from right midfield to a central role saw Danny become an integral part of the side the lifted the Championship in 2010.

However his top flight return was blighted by injury; the error that cost United a goal at West Bromwich Albion triggering Chris Hughton's departure as Manager.

Successor Alan Pardew took seven games to pick Danny and a role understudying Cheick Tiote followed - appearing when the Ivorian was injured, suspended or at the African Nations Cup.

Making his final United appearance in the 2-0 home win over Liverpool in April 2012, Guthrie was a free agent soon after, hitting the headlines with a wedding at Allerton Castle in Yorkshire attended by family, friends and the local constabulary.

Signing for Reading on a three-year deal in 2012, the final months of his time as a Royal were spent on loan at Fulham.

However, no permanent contract offer followed from the Cottagers and Danny joined Blackburn Rovers on a free in 2015.

Following two seasons at Ewood Park, he found himself clubless again, maintaining fitness playing for amateurs Oakengates Athletic near his native Shrewsbury.

Indonesians Mitra Kukar completing his signing in January 2018 Guthrie back in the UK a year later with League Two Walsall.

Leaving the Saddlers in February 2021, his next port of call was Icelandic side Fram - helping to a title and promotion.

Off the field though, Danny was declared bankrupt in June 2022 after accruing gambling debts.

Hanging up his boots, he became a coach at the TFA Elite youth academy in Dubai.

2002 Matty Bondswell born, Nottingham.
(2021-24)

Defender who was a free agent when signing for United in March 2021, following his release from Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig.

Beginning his playing career at Forest's Academy, Matt
y left the City Ground after eight years after agreeing a professional contract with Leipzig during 2018.

Playing for their junior sides, a first taste of senior professional football came in August 2020 when loaned to Dutch second tier club, FC Dordrecht.

Joining United's Development squad, he debuted from the bench for the U23s in a 0-4 loss away to Wolves in April 2021.

Loaned to Shrewsbury Town in January 2022, Bondswell was recalled two months later without playing a game.

In United's senior squad for pre-season games, Matty played 45 minutes against Benfica before brief outings in home kickabouts against Atalanta and Bilbao.

However, Matty then returned to the U21 squad and a regular starting berth in PL2.

In June 2023 he joined Newport County for a season-long loan and was released by Newcastle the following May.

Bondswell's next stop was Hartlepool United on a short-term contract, moving on to National League North side Peterborough Sports in early 2025.

Internationally, Matty played at youth level for England with future Magpie Tino Livramento in the same U15 side.

An estimated 6,000 fans were locked out and missed a gritty performance by the 10 man Magpies, for whom Peter Beardsley was making a farewell appearance before leaving for Liverpool.

He provided a cross from which Glenn Roeder headed the hosts ahead before departing through injury on 35 minutes.

John Anderson was then forced off after a scything tackle from Norman Whiteside, Peter Jackson soon exacting revenge and prompting a scuffle for which Keith Hackett booked him.

With Liam O'Brien in their line-up, the Red Devils levelled thanks to a long range thumper from Gordon Strachan, only for Paul Goddard to beat Gary Walsh at the Gallowgate End - equaling a club record by netting in his seventh successive game.

David Beckham equalised Andreas Andersson's opener, but Newcastle should have won at Old Trafford for the second time in weeks, to accompany their FA Cup semi-final success against Sheffield United.

Solskjaer was dismissed for hacking down Robert Lee, who was clean through on goal. However, the draw was certainly a moral victory and effectively robbed Fergie & Co. of the title, as Arsenal romped to victory over Wimbledon to take a decisive advantage.

2010 The grounding of UK flights due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud left plans for United's possible Championship title-clincher at Plymouth quite literally up in the air.

A 410 mile coach journey to Home Park would hardly be the ideal preparation for a game United just needed to draw.
