U18s:
Teatime for Toon Teens

There's a further change to this week's rearranged U18 league home fixture with Leeds United, which is now a 5.30pm kick-off at Whitley Park on Wednesday.

United's youngsters then conclude their season with a home game against a Manchester City side who secured the Northern section Premier League title last Saturday.

That remains listed by the Premier League as taking place this coming Saturday, but we understand it's also liable to alteration - details awaited.

U18s:
Derby delight !

mackem U18s  1  Newcastle U18s  3

Three goals within 15 second half minutes were enough to secure victory for Newcastle U18s in Saturday's derby fixture at the academy of plight.

An unremarkable opening 45 minutes yielded few scoring chances for either side and no goals -  United's best opportunity seeing captain Henry Johnson unable to keep his header down following a corner kick.

The second half was a different story, the Magpies going ahead within three minutes of the restart when the trialist home goalkeeper flapped at Guy Bloomer's right wing cross and Alex O'Donovan fired home.

1-0 then became 2-0 in the 52nd minute when Matheos Ferreira beat his man on the left before centering for Joe Brayson to bundle the ball in from close range.

Brayson then turned provider 10 minutes later, teeing up Kyle Fitzgerald to cut inside an opponent and place a low shot into the corner of the mackem net.

The hosts reduced the arrears three minutes later when a long range effort from Bayley Hester eluded Adam Harrison, but United secured victory without further incident.

Team: Harrison, Bloomer, Cogdon, Epia (Durrant 74), Johnson, Finneran, Fitzgerald (Yildiz 85), Harper (Wooster 77), Brayson (M.Taylor 78), O'Donovan, Ferreira.
Subs n/u:
Jones, M.Taylor.

Booked: Finneran, Harrison, Johnson.

Travis Hernes

A 72 minute shift for midfielder Travis on Monday, as AaB's relegation troubles deepened with a 0-1 home defeat by Vejle in the Danish SuperLiga.

Harrison Ashby
(QPR):
The already-promoted Clarets staked their claim for the Championship title with a 5-0 success at Loftus Road on Saturday. Having filled in at left back recently, Harrison featured in right midfield and was cautioned during his 86 minutes on the field.

Isaac Hayden
(Portsmouth):
The midfielder completed 72 minutes of Saturday's 1-1 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, both goals scored in the first half.

Alex Murphy (Bolton Wanderers):
Now unable to reach the League One playoff places, Bolton played out a 1-1 draw at Peterborough United on Saturday. Alex started and was replaced in second half added time.

Charlie McArthur
(Carlisle United):
A 2-3 loss at Cheltenham Town on Saturday condemned the Cumbrians to relegation from League Two. Charlie wasn't named in the squad, but there was a rare outing for SJP old boy Paul Dummett from the bench for Carlisle.

It finished 0-0 against Grimsby Town at Stadium MK in League Two on Saturday, with Joe introduced as a 76th minute substitute.

Despite a 1-0 home win over Oxford City on Saturday, Moors finished a point shy of the National League North playoffs. James remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Miodrag Pivas
(Willem II):
Although playing in a practice match against ADO Den Haag some days earlier, Pivas was omitted from the squad that lost 0-1 at Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

Vakhtang Salia
(Dinamo Tblisi):
Tblisi were held 1-1 at home by Dinamo Batumi in the Erovnukli Liga on Friday, with Salia starting the game and completing 65 minutes - exiting with his side 0-1 down.

United's penultimate Premier League away game of the season takes them to Sussex on Sunday for a 2pm kick-off at the Amex Stadium live on Sky Sports.

All 3,000 away tickets are sold out, with forwarding available from 2pm on Thursday until 9am on matchday.

This will be Newcastle's eighth attempt at winning a PL fixture at this venue, having drawn four and lost the other three of their previous seven visits.

Their sole victory in 10 league and cup matches at the Amex came during the 2016/17 Championship season.

The Seagulls are bidding for a winning treble against Newcastle this season, following 1-0 PL and 2-1 FA Cup victories on Tyneside.

Team:
Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles remain out while Matt Targett has picked up a hamstring injury that may prematurely end his season.

The extent of the knee injury that saw Joelinton miss the 3-0 win over Ipswich Town is yet to be announced, but it's feared that he may have kicked his last ball of 2024/25,

Jason Tindall will serve a one game touchline suspension at the Amex, following his third caution of the season during that win against Ipswich.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 29/20
The draw 13/5
BHAFC win 17/10

New customers receive a £20 bet when staking £5 (T's & C's apply). Find those markets online here

BHAFC: Striker Joao Pedro remains suspended following a straight red card against Brentford.

Ahead of our visit, Albion defeated West Ham 3-2 at home on Saturday to end a winless run of five PL games.

Referee: Craig Pawson - a fourth appointment to a Newcastle PL game this season for the South Yorkshire whistler, after the 1-0 home win over Southampton, 0-0 draw at Everton and 0-2 home defeat by West Ham.

On This Day in History
28th April

Born Or Died:

1925 George Hair born, Ryton.
(1943-49)

Outside left who moved to SJP during WW2 from Ryton for the princely sum of £10 and made his senior bow in a 0-2 home loss to Bradford Park Avenue in September 1944.

The majority of George's games for Newcastle came in wartime football, with his post-WW2 outings partly restricted by the form of Tommy Pearson.

His official club debut came in an FA Cup tie against Barnsley in January 1946 marking the occasion by scoring in a 4-2 victory.

It wasn't until May 1947 though that Hair first appeared in the Football League, a 2-2 draw at Bury.

Scoring twice in United's 1947/48 promotion season, George marked the first of fourteen top-flight games in the following campaign by netting in a 1-1 draw at Roker Park.

However, the arrival of Bobby Mitchell from Third Lanark in February 1949 spelt the end of Hair's time at SJP and after recovering from a broken leg, he joined Grimsby Town later that year in a £6,000 deal.

Appearing for Peterborough United between 1951 and 1956 in their Midland League days, he later playing for Boston United before ending his career at Spalding Town.

Serving as a Northamptonshire FA official following his retirement, George was living in Peterborough at the time of his death in 1994.

Safe from relegation unless they lost by 40-odd goals, a youthful lineup for this Monday night finale included debutant goalkeeper Chris Harker.

This was to be the sole appearance of the Shiremoor-born born player whose Magpies career was curtailed by National Service and injuries sustained in a road accident.

He's recalled as being the 'keeper who, when playing for Bury on Boxing Day 1962, collided with Brian Clough, the striker sustaining a career-ending injury in the incident.

PS: While United were safe on goal average, the same couldn't be said for the mackems, who had been relegated for the very first time in their history the previous Saturday.

Norman Smith's final game in charge saw his side record an eleventh place finish.

There was a debut in defence for Dave Turner, who had featured in our FA Youth Cup-winning campaign that season.

The two points were vital for Don Revie's Leeds - who had the threat of relegation to Division Three hanging over them at kick-off.

Mick Quinn then banged home his 32nd goal of the season at the second attempt to put Jim Smith's team into a lead they retained.

The victory maintained hopes of automatic promotion, but wins for Leeds United and Sheffield United left us third with one game of the regular season remaining.

1995 A crowd of 11,010 saw England U15's retain the International Victory Shield with a 2-1 victory over Scotland at SJP.

Despite being live on Sky, the crowd was a record for a Schoolboy game outside Wembley.

Young Magpie Jamie Burt was in the England side, whose winner came from a certain Michael Owen - who later recalled the goal as being the best of his career.

2001 A memorable game at Villa's Bodymoor Heath Training Ground ensured United made it to the U17 playoff Quarter-Finals.

A game that ended in sunshine but started in a hail storm finished 5-4 to United, Lewis Guy grabbing an injury time winner after Michael Chopra's treble and one from Richard Offiong.

Luke Moore and Peter Hynes had twice got the Villans back on terms.

Facing them were a Wigan side fresh from conquests of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, as their annual escape from relegation began to gather pace.

Not even the most optimistic Latics fan - or pessimistic Magpie follower - could have foreseen what was to come though, as the Premier League's lowest home scorers netted four times without reply in 32 minutes.

A predictable loss at the Emirates left the Gunners on the verge of Champions League qualification and Newcastle on a six game losing league run - their worst sequence since 1987.

Another tame display did nothing to lift the gloom around the club and Alan Pardew's return to the dugout, after a seven game absence during which his side took three points from a possible 21, had little effect.
