2025/26:
Celtic (a) on sale now

Newcastle have confirmed a second pre-season kickabout, travelling to the Scottish Champions Celtic on Saturday July 19th.

That's a
3pm kick-off and the Magpies have been given 7,200 places, which are now on sale to 2025/26 season ticket holders with 15 points or more.

As was the case for March's Wembley visit, away travel groups won't be in use and seats are individually selected from a seating plan. That was visible on a smartphone but some desktop users report that they struggled to see it.

It's also worth repeating that more than one section is on sale, but in order to see the others, you need to click on the arrow to the right of the screen.

NB: some seats in areas 118 and 119 in the usual away corner have restricted views due to a pillar. These look to be included in the 1,200 that NUFC will be selling for a slightly cheaper price after the full price ones sell out.

NUFC state that this game will be
excluded from the usual away ticket transfer scheme.

Prices: £25 adults, over 65s £17, 13-16s £17, U13s £12.

(There's no relevant scheduled rail work that weekend).

This will be United's first game in the East end of Glasgow since a 1-2 loss in August 2004. That was the third visit of the Premier League era, following a 0-2 reverse in July 1999 and a 1-1 draw on a red-hot day in August 1995.

The most recent meeting of the two sides took place at SJP during August 2007, ending in a 4-1 win for the Magpies.

For Eddie Howe it's a belated opportunity to lead a side out at Parkhead, having rejected the chance to become Celtic boss during 2021 - supposedly after failing to reach an agreement on the appointment of his backroom staff.

Chelsea (h) ticket issue

We've been made aware of some problems downloading match tickets for Sunday's game to Google wallets.

Fans contacting NUFC on Tuesday were told that the issue was known and should be sorted "in a few days."

The last push:
Howay the lad

The countdown is on to try and propel Andrew Cushin's brand-new album "Love is For Everyone" to the highest possible position in this week's UK album chart.

The 25 year-old Tynesider follows up his 2023 debut with a second collection of original material, available to buy now in download, CD and vinyl versions online
here

Andrew will also be returning to Newcastle's Bridge Hotel - where the album cover photo was shot - this coming Thursday between 7pm and 11pm to play some tunes and sell copies of the record. Entry is free of charge.

We have a limited edition signed vinyl copy of "Love is For Everyone" as a free-to-enter competition prize. To be in with a chance of winning it, simply predict the final score when Newcastle play Chelsea this coming Sunday.

Email [email protected] with your answer by 11pm on  Saturday May 10th, subject line of AC

No age limit, open to all but delivery only to a UK address. One entry each please. In the event of a tie, one winner will be randomly drawn from all correct entries received.

PS: Find Andrew
's Radio Newcastle interview on Sunday online here (starts at 1 hour 13 minutes).

PPS: Cushin's quest for world domination knows no bounds - he's talking about the Toon in the latest 442 Magazine.

Tickets for that are available online here now and episodes of what was voted Podcast of the Year by the Football Supporters Association are online here

We had pairs of tickets to the Newcastle show to give away and asked the following question:

The answer was Alan Pardew and the
ticket winners are:

Run Geordie Run:
On the road again

NUFC.com reader Mark Allison aka Run Geordie Run continues his coast to coast trek across the USA, encountering cooler conditions on day 7 in Pennsylvania.

A 3,200 mile route to Huntington Beach in just 100 days takes him through conditions ranging from the chills in the Rockies to the searing heat of Death Valley.

Mark's motivation is to raise funds for St.Benedicts Hospice - a cause that has great personal significance. If you're able to contribute, then this can be done online here

Thanks to everyone who has donated thus far, the £15K mark has been surpassed - that's £25% of the target amount for this run.

The Run Geordie Run home page is online here with links to his various social media accounts and details of his fundraising runs both past and present.

Ahead of their visit to Tyneside, Chelsea take a 4-1 first leg lead to Swedes Djurgaardens in the Europa Conference League Semi-final on Thursday.

A 2-1 success at Fulham in their most recent PL away game ended a winless sequence on the road in that competition stretching to eight games (five losses, three draws).

Referee:
John Brooks - fourth posting of the season for the Leicestershire official and a second in the PL after the 1-0 victory over Arsenal. Brooks also took charge of the 2-0 Carabao Cup success at Arsenal and the Final at Wembley.

Born Or Died:

1962 Brian Kilcline born, Nottingham. (1992-94)

The 6'4" defender known as "Killer" had appeared for Notts County and Coventry City (lifting the 1987 FA Cup) but was out of favour at Oldham Athletic when the call came from Kevin Keegan in February 1992.

KK had just taken over at SJP and was in need of someone to anchor his leaking defence. Kilcline duly arrived on loan and debuted in a 1-1 home draw with Barnsley.

That loan became a permanent transfer within a month at a cost of £250K (the story at the time was that cash-strapped United had turned to Chairman Sir John Hall's wife Lady Mae for the funds).

Relegation to Division Three was avoided and the former England U21 international then played his part in the following season's title-winning campaign - he and co-captain Barry Venison lifting the Championship Trophy at SJP in May 1993.

Remaining in Toon following promotion, Kilcline's outings were restricted to the League Cup - including an 11-2 aggregate victory over hometown club Notts County.

He did make one Premier League appearance - 2-0 home win over Manchester City on New Years Day 1994 - but that proved to be his final first team outing for United and he moved on soon afterwards.

A £90K deal saw him sign for top-flight strugglers Swindon Town; although he was missing from the Robins side who were humped 7-1 at SJP three months later.

Later transfers saw Kilcline join Mansfield Town, Halifax Town and finally Altrincham, where he also coached.

Never conforming to the stereotype of a conventional footballer (he lived in a canal barge while playing for Swindon), Brian also holds a sailing skippers qualification.

Working as a media pundit, he popped up in the press box for the odd Newcastle game, penned newspaper columns and even ran an arm-wrestling challenge on Soccer AM!

With his wife, Killer spent time in India and Australia before returning to the UK, where he became involved in buying and renovating rental properties.

A brief return to football saw Brian coach youngsters at Huddersfield Town, while he also played for the Newcastle Masters side.

Later relocating to the Algarve region of Portugal, another return back to these shores saw him settle in Yorkshire before moving to Cornwall.

Kilcline's nomadic post-football lifestyle is detailed in his wife Lynn's book, "The Lion, The Witch and The Rucksack".

1968 Death of Tom Urwin, 72.
(1924-30)
Tom has the distinction of being the only Newcastle first team player with a surname beginning with "U".

Just 45 seconds after kick-off, the FA Cup was already inching it's way back to Newcastle after Jackie Milburn headed Len White's corner past City custodian Bert Trautmann.

This time Jimmy Scoular collected the Cup from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and streets were deserted as the game was televised and those who owned sets suddenly became very popular.

As it turned out this point wasn't needed and Northampton Town joined Blackburn Rovers as the two relegated sides.

1971 Newcastle beat off late interest from Chelsea to sign striker Malcolm Macdonald from Second Division Luton Town for a fee of £180K.

Macdonald had ended his Kenilworth Road career with a hat trick in his final match against Cardiff City.

1973
Middlesbrough's Ayresome Park hosted a testimonial for Harold Shepherdson in which a 'Boro side beat an England XI 7-5.

Newcastle's Terry Hibbitt guested for 'Boro along with former Magpies Alan Foggon and John Craggs. Stuart Boam and David Mills were also in action.

Shepherdson had been a Boro player then manager on three occasions and also right-hand man to Alf Ramsey when England won the World Cup in 1966.

Awarded the MBE in 1969 for services to football, he also assisted Stan Anderson and Jack Charlton while they were in charge of Boro.

Future Toon flop Pat Heard netted in what was to be the penultimate game of Jack Charlton's five and a half year stint as Manager of the Owls.

Midway through the second half, a rumour spread round SJP that the other promotion candidates were all losing by improbable results, putting us in a promotion place.

The rumour was of course false, but a pitch invasion at the final whistle ended with the team saluting the fans from the West Stand Directors Box - an echo of 1965 when promotion actually had been achieved.

48 hours after defeating Derby County at SJP, promotion was mathematically assured after this Bank Holiday Monday game.

With Kevin Keegan missing due to injury, United found themselves two goals behind before Peter Beardsley took over. Hammering home a 20 yard effort to reduce the arrears, he then set up David Mills to level - with John Anderson having seen his effort mysteriously ruled out in between times.

Clad in their silver strip, Newcastle were unable to produce a second half winner, but that didn't matter to the Geordie hordes that had taken over Leeds Road and invaded the pitch at full time.

Gavin Peacock's volley gave United a half time advantage at Oakwell, only for Mark Smith to soon level.

Thereafter the Tykes pressed in vain for a winner to keep their playoff hopes alive.

1991 While the first team were away at Oakwell, United's reserves travelled to Coventry having escaped relegation after beating Derby County the previous week.

A measure of the turnover at the club was that the fiftieth player of the season played for the reserves and this was coach Derek Fazackerley who had named himself as an emergency sub to make the numbers up.

Faz appeared for the last ten minutes by which time City were already 4-0 ahead.

Andy Cole extended the club's seasonal scoring record to 41 and Peter Beardsley scored from the spot to prompt celebrations across the city. A remarkable first season in the Premier League had ended in a third-place finish and a UEFA Cup place.

2003 Newcastle Reserves regained the Northumberland Senior Cup at St. James' Park against Whitley Bay thanks to two second half goals from Magpies substitute Marc Walton.

The trophy was presented to Newcastle captain Peter Ramage by Sir Bobby Robson.

Shola Ameobi and Patrick Kluivert gave Magpies boss Graeme Souness every reason to ready their P45s with two mindless moments at Goodison Park.

Trailing to a Weir first half goal, Shola's senseless swipe at Tim Cahill resulted in a straight red card. Cahill promptly went up the other end and made it 2-0.

Kluivert then reacted in a similar fashion but referee, Barry Knight, resisted the chance to make it five red cards against our players this season - only booking the Dutchman.

A miserable season on the road ended in suitably downbeat style and the defeat meant United were assured of a bottom half finish in the Premiership. They ended up 14th.

Goals from Shola Ameobi and Steven Taylor secured a double over the ten-man Blues and made top-flight football a certainty on Tyneside for another season with two games remaining.

Liam Ridgewell's handball allowed Ameobi to score from the spot and saw the City player red-carded, before Steven Taylor's second from Joey Barton's corner.

Old boy Lee Bowyer reduced the arrears before half time but neither side could find a goal after the break, leaving the visitors staring into the abyss of relegation.

Gael Bigirimana missed our opening spot kick and goalkeeper Jak Alnwick didn't save any.

As was the case in May 2009, United limped their way into the Championship on a sunny day at Villa Park - with another abject display.

Aston Villa had tumbled out of the league with a paltry points total to rival Derby County and the mackems but revelled in our demise again.

A pathetic inflatable protest hampered our efforts to win, stewards making laughable attempts to clear them away one at a time rather. than just bursting the damn things.

But Rafa's side had no excuses for a woeful display which barely mustered an effort on target against the leakiest defence in the PL.

United became Champions of the Championship after a memorable afternoon at SJP, chalking up their 100th league and cup goal in the process.

Fittingly it was Dwight Gayle who netted our third, after coming on as a late substitute but within seconds news filtered through from Villa Park that Aston Villa had equalised against Brighton, despite being down to ten men.

It was met with a mixture of euphoria and disbelief, most present assuming Albion would secure the three points to see them finish top.

The game finished with United celebrating the win and promotion while hanging on for news from Birmingham, and it was suddenly confirmed that Rafa's side had dramatically clinched the title.

Cue huge jubilation and off the pitch as SJP enjoyed a rare moment of unbridled joy on a day when for once, it all went spectacularly right for the Magpies.

Arguably the most unexpected result of Steve Bruce's 84 Premier League games as Magpies boss was this one at the King Power Stadium.

A 4-2 win over a City side eyeing Champions League qualification was eye-catching enough, but to be leading the Foxes by four clear goals at one point was nothing short of sensational.

Three points all but guaranteed top flight survival, unless Fulham won their remaining four games and United lost their final three.

2022 A wretched conclusion to the season for the U18s saw them concede five goals without reply to Liverpool.

That in itself was light relief though, given that they'd shipped 19 goals in their previous two outings (0-6 against Manchester United and 0-13 against Manchester City).

2022 Loanee Elliot Anderson was the toast of the blue half of Bristol, after his seventh goal of the season ensured promotion from League Two for Rovers.

In order to pip rivals Northampton Town, Joey Barton's side needed to defeat Scunthorpe United by seven goals and duly registered a 7-0 victory; Anderson heading in the seventh with just five minutes remaining.

Fellow loanee Matty Longstaff netted for Mansfield Town in a 2-2 home draw with Forest Green Rovers. The Stags advanced to the League Two playoffs.
