Newcastle's final away game of the season takes them to North
London and a 4.30pm kick-off on Sunday
at the Emirates Stadium, live on Sky Sports.
Ticket forwarding ends at 11.30am on Sunday.
United go in search of an unprecedented fourth victory and
clean sheet against Mikel Arteta's side this season, after their 1-0
PL win at SJP followed by the two-legged Carabao Cup success - 2-0
in London and 2-0 on Tyneside.
Their final away game of the season sees them seeking a ninth win on
the road, their best ever PL return and something not achieved since
the 2001/02 season - that total including a memorable 3-1 success at
Highbury.
Team: Joelinton
Kieran Trippier, Lewis
Hall and Matt Targett will all miss out, with Joe Willock unlikely
to feature against his old club.
Speaking on Friday, Eddie Howe refused to rule Sven Botman out of
Sunday's game but confirmed that he had suffered an injury during the win over
Chelsea.

Ex-Newcastle striker Dwight
Gayle will play the final game of his career on Saturday, as his current
club Hibernian host Rangers at Easter Road in the Scottish Premiership.
The 35 year-old forward has scored six goals since signing for Hibs last
September and has confirmed his imminent retirement. He plans to become a
player's agent.
Meanwhile Gayle's former SJP team-mate Jeff Hendrick has
unsurprisingly left Derby County after his short-term deal at the
Championship club expired.
The 33 year-old midfielder rejoined the Rams in March but failed to make a
single appearance for them.
And Paul Dummett's time at Carlisle United is over, the 33 year-old
defender departing after failing to help the Cumbrians avoid relegation to
the National League in his brief time at Brunton Park.
Paul Huntington has the opportunity to prolong his stay at Bradford
City however, the 37 year-old now out of contract at Valley Parade but
invited to pre-season training as the Bantams move up to League One.
PS: A trio of former Magpie goalkeepers playing in the Championship are all
set to become free agents, with Tim Krul confirmed as leaving Luton
Town, Freddie Woodman expected to exit Preston North End and Jak
Alnwick's fate at Cardiff City awaited.
Update:
Vote now for Howe
The nominations for the 2024/25
Barclays Premier League Manager of the season have been
announced, with Newcastle's Eddie Howe among the five
candidates.
A combination of a public vote and a "panel of football
experts" will determine the winner, with voting open from now
until Noon on Monday (19th) online here.
Only one Magpies boss has won this award previously, Alan Pardew
recognised back in 2011/12 for guiding his side to a fifth place
finish.

Wednesday evening saw Heaton
Stannington lift the Northumberland Senior Cup for the very first time in
their history, defeating Morpeth Town in a penalty shootout.
3,841 fans were at Gallowgate to see a scoreless 90 minutes during which
neither side dominated, the tie proceeding straight to penalties at that point.
The first eight spot kicks were converted before both sides saw their fifth
efforts saved. Town then failed with their next, leaving Stan substitute Dan
Groves to fire past former Magpie goalkeeper Dan Langley and into the
Gallowgate net.

Following last week's 3-2
friendly win away to St.Mirren, United's U21 side faced Scottish opposition
once again on Tuesday, this time at Darsley Park.
A close range effort from Sean Neave gave the hosts an interval lead before
the visitors found a late leveller.
20 players were used by Newcastle, with Jamaal Lascelles completing the
opening 45 minutes - his first on-field involvement after missing 13 months
with an ACL injury.

Sweet FA for Dan
Former Newcastle sporting
director Dan Ashworth has been appointed as the FA's head of
elite men's and women's development - returning to the employer he served
between 2012 and 2018 before leaving for Brighton.
Ashworth spent two years at SJP before an approach from Manchester United
saw him placed on gardening leave in February 2024. However he lasted barely
six months at Old Trafford before a parting of the ways - the Red Devils
forking out a combined £4.1m in compensation to Newcastle and then paying
him off.
Meanwhile, ex-Magpie U21 coach Elliott Dickman has left his post as
South Shields manager after the Mariners finished seventeenth in National
League North.

The identity of the third

Celtic (a) SOLD OUT
Newcastle have confirmed a second pre-season kickabout, at
Scottish Champions Celtic on Saturday July 19th.
That's a 3pm kick-off, with United
receiving 7,200 places.
The ballot for season ticket holders opens on Mon
19.05.2025 at 2pm and closes 24 hours later.
NUFC state that this game will be excluded
from the usual away ticket transfer scheme.
(There's no relevant scheduled rail work
that weekend).
This will be United's first game in the East
end of Glasgow since a 1-2 loss in August 2004. That was the third
visit of the Premier League era, following a 0-2 reverse in July
1999 and a 1-1 draw on a red-hot day in August 1995.
The most recent meeting of the two sides
took place at SJP during August 2007, ending in a 4-1 win for the
Magpies.
For Eddie Howe it's a belated opportunity to
lead a side out at Parkhead, having rejected the chance to become
Celtic boss during 2021 - supposedly after failing to reach an
agreement on the appointment of his backroom staff.

Born Or Died:
1924 Roy
Bentley born, Shirehampton, Bristol.
(1946-48)

Roy was known as a centre half
when he began his career with Bristol Rovers, Bristol City and
Liverpool (the latter under the assumed name of Smith) while serving as an Able
Seaman in the Royal Navy.
Converted to a striker by the time he moved to Tyneside ahead of the 1946/47
season, Roy was
an immediate hit and a regular scorer, netting twice on his debut in a 4-1
victory at Millwall in Division Two that August.
However he abruptly left midway through
the 1947/48 promotion season, moving to
Chelsea as a £12,500 replacement for their star man Tommy Lawton.
Bentley maintains he "had to leave because of the North-east air. I was
so fatigued and the doctor told me it would be better if I moved south. He
said, 'If you stay and fight it you could end up with TB'."
That's interesting, given his wartime service on convoy
escort ships bound for Murmansk, which lies above the arctic circle....
After a slow start at Stamford Bridge, Roy came good and was to finish as top
scorer in each of his seasons at the Blues.
The highlight was a 22 goal haul as his side won the title in the 1954/55
season, a total that including a hat trick against Newcastle in a 4-3 victory
at Stamford Bridge.
Just over a year later Roy made the switch to nearby Fulham, where he converted
back to centre half. QPR then became his final club
for a two year spell from 1961.
Winning 12 full England caps, Roy entered management with
Reading during 1963, remaining in charge at Elm Park until 1969.
He also managed Swansea Town, scouted for Bradford City and took charge of non
-league Thatcham Town. A return to Reading as club secretary saw him settle in the town, later holding a similar position at Aldershot Town.
Bentley's autobiography "Roy Wonder" was published in 2005 and
a restaurant bears his name at Stamford Bridge.
Two days before his 87th birthday in 2011, Roy was a special guest on the pitch at
Stamford Bridge during the half time break, receiving warm applause from both
Chelsea and Newcastle fans.
He passed away in April 2018.

1962 Phil Linacre born, Middlesbrough (1983)

Striker who began his career with Coventry City, signing for Hartlepool
United following his release by the Sky Blues and making a first team debut in
December 1980.
Joining Whitby Town three years later, Phil made a handful of appearances on
trial for Newcastle reserves during the 1983/84 season, netting in a 3-2 home
win over Aston Villa in December 1983.
Nothing came of that and he rejoined Hartlepool shortly after, subsequently
moving on to Bishop Auckland, Newcastle Blue Star, Darlington and Gateshead.
Phil's father Bill was a post-war star for Boro, while brother John also
played professionally for Hartlepool United.
1970
John Karelse born, Kapelle,
Netherlands. (1999-2003)
Ahead of the 1999/00
season, Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit was looking to boost his
goalkeeping options.
And after using Lionel Perez and Steve Harper in pre-season (along
with on-trial duo Erwin Lemmens & Marc Ziegler), Harper
started the season between the posts.
After just two games - and two defeats - though, Gullit acted to
bring in Dutch stopper Karelse from NAC Breda for £750K.
With barely time to introduce himself to his new colleagues, big
John made his debut at the Dell against Southampton - and let in
four goals in 20 minutes after half time.
After keeping his place for the following week's 3-3 home draw
with Wimbledon, Karelse made way for loan signing Tommy Wright in
the mackem monsoon loss.
That was enough to see Gullit depart and following the
installation of Bobby Robson as his successor, Karelse made just
one more competitive appearance, in a 0-0 draw at Arsenal that
October.
A trial spell with Turkish side Denizlispor in August 2000 failed
to lead to a move and John returned to Tyneside to make periodic
reserve appearances.
The following season saw Karelse sidelined by both illness and
injury and although moves to both Feyenoord and Pompey were
claimed in the media, neither came to pass.
Finally exiting SJP in 2003, John moved back to the Netherlands,
joining lower league
side AGOVV Apeldoorn.
Following his retirement, he then made a return to his first club
Breda (where he'd made his debut in 1987) in 2004 as coach.
In September 2010 Karelse was appointed joint interim manager of
NAC, along with Gert Aandewiel and Arno van Zwam.
The trio remained in post for the duration of the season, steering
the club to the safety of 13th spot in the Eredivisie.
A poor run of results however resulted in Jon's dismissal
during October 2012.
He next turned up in charge of VC Vlissingen during 2017, leaving there two
years later and taking over at Achilles Veen.

Big Jon does his famous Al

from Bergen to Oslo and to a routine win against a
side with a trio of Norwegian guest internationals.
Charlie Wayman led the way with four goals and Albert
Stubbins chipped in with two, despite suffering from a
thigh strain.
A detachment of British soldiers stationed nearby attended
the game (with a large Union Flag) and delivered an urn of
tea for Newcastle's players at half time!

this was actually a

He equalised from the penalty spot following a Craig Johnson handball, while
United's second leveller came from his pal Terry McDermott, who volleyed past
Bruce Grobelaar at the Gallowgate End.
Following the final whistle, KK was whisked away by a
helicopter that landed briefly on the centre circle.
Among those who cheered his departure was a young NUFC
ballboy named Alan Shearer.

was on the bench!

1997 Newcastle boss Kenny Dalglish returned to his old

Gennoe, replacing the outgoing Peter Bonetti.
2004 In the wake of Newcastle's fifth place finish, Chairman Freddy Shepherd
said:
"We are all
in this together and the players are disappointed at what
has happened this season, and so am I and the manager -
and I am sure the supporters are very, very disappointed.
"We have
had a good season in the UEFA Cup, but as far as the
Premiership is concerned, three points out of 18 at the
start of the season and three out of the last nine is just
not good enough.
"I'm not
happy that we're not in the Champions League qualifiers
and I don't suppose the supporters are. But at least being
in Europe next season gets us back on track.
"We will
leave it a couple of days until the dust settles on last
season. We know
what we have to do, but we won't panic and what we have to
do first is to make sure we have a steady ship.
"There is
absolutely no chance of us doing a Leeds United, I can
assure our fans of that."
2005 Graham Souness did his best Perry Mason impression
when speaking to the Chronicle:
"Craig Bellamy can never play for me again. I still
believe I couldn't have handled the situation with him any
differently from the way I did.
"Craig
Bellamy had scored seven goals up to the start of the new
year and he was probably on schedule to score more goals
for this club than he had before in any one season.
"But since
he left, our dressing room is a healthier place. At the
end of the day, the club is not here for the benefit of
any one individual.
"The only
player I have fallen out with here is Craig Bellamy. Yes,
Laurent Robert isn't happy because he's not in the team
every week but I don't expect any player not in the team
to be happy.
"I pick
players on how they train and how they play in matches. I
cannot fall out with people because our personalities are
not matched. I have to be far bigger than that. That's not
what management is about.
"Who are
these players I'm supposed to have fallen out with? Andy
Cole? I rest my case. David Dunn? I rest my case. Craig
Bellamy? I rest my case. Andy Todd? I rest my case. Dwight Yorke? We only fell out once at one training session.
"Don't
forget I've managed hundreds of players in my 19 years as
a manager. So I've fallen out with five of them? I rest my
case."
2010 Newcastle confirmed that Academy coach Kenny Wharton
had left "by mutual consent".
The former Magpies player had held various off-field roles at
junior and academy level since returning to the club in 1999.
2022
Newcastle's pre-season plans were thrown into disarray by
the cancellation of the Ohio Cup; a four team tournament

24 hours after the mackems saw their Premier League promotion hopes
destroyed by Luton Town, it was the turn of 'Boro to crash out of
the Championship play-offs at the semi-final stage to Coventry City.
