Home kit confirmation

Friday morning saw Newcastle reveal their 2025/26 home kit, which they'll debut against Everton this Sunday.

The new kits will go on sale from NUFC stores at 9am on Thursday, May 29th.

News of the second and third kit launches and designs is awaited, with strong claims that one will be green and the other a version of the 1997/98 blue shirt with a green and orange stripe.

Premier League:
Everton (h)

Eddie Howe's side conclude their Premier League season on Sunday by hosting the Toffees at SJP in a 4pm kick-off.

There's no live UK TV coverage, with Liverpool versus Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest versus Chelsea on Sky Sports. TNT Sports meanwhile will show Manchester United versus Aston Villa.

NUFC are repeating their pre-match free drink offer, this time giving fans who arrive between 2pm and 3pm two drinks vouchers to be redeemed by 3.30pm.

The Magpies will debut their 2025/26 season Adidas home kit, the first time that they've previewed a kit in the last game of the season since 2019/20 (Liverpool home).

With a top five position required for Champions League qualification, Newcastle sit fourth, one of three sides on 66 points but with a superior goal difference to the others.

Newcastle v Everton (4pm)
Nottingham Forest v Chelsea (4pm) Sky
Southampton v Arsenal (4pm)
Spurs v  Brighton & Hove Albion (4pm)
Wolves v
Brentford (4pm)

After Wolves lost at Crystal Palace on Tuesday, Everton have absolutely nothing to play for - guaranteed to finish 13th in the Premier League, regardless of other results.

Team:
Lewis Hall and Matt Targett won't feature.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Eddie Howe confirmed that Joelinton's season was over but Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier both had a chance of facing Everton.

The appearance of Isak in the Sweden squad selection on Thursday for two kickabouts early next month had raised hopes that he'd feature for his club on Sunday.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 7/20

EFC win 7/1

EFC:
Central defensive pair James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite are both doubtful as is Seamus Coleman.

Since David Moyes returned to the Toffees, his side have lost just two of their nine PL games away from Goodison Park, winning four times and drawing the other three.

Moyes had an eventful last visit to Gallowgate in March 2024, seeing his West Ham side 3-1 ahead early in the second half but then go on to lose 4-3.

Referee:
Tony Harrington - first Newcastle game of the season for the Hartlepool-born whistler. His most recent Toon games were both at SJP in the latter stages of the 2023/24 season - a 1-1 draw with Everton and a 5-1 win over Sheffield United.

RGR:
"An incredible effort"

Speaking to the media on Friday, Magpies boss Eddie Howe had this to say about Mark Allison and his charity exploits:

"I'm not sure I could be doing that at this moment in time....but an incredible effort, first and foremost, to run across the United States of America isn't something that everyone can do. So I'd just like to wish him all the luck.

"I think when you're feeling tired, and I will always say this to the players, you've just got to try and keep going. From his perspective, just put one leg in front of the other and really you're going to have to go deep.

"You're going to have to go to all your motivational tools that you have and he's probably going to spend a lot of time going back to his family and his childhood experiences to try and get through in amongst the pain.

"I have heard about his story and I think it's an incredible effort. What a brilliant cause to raise money for. So congratulations to him and fingers crossed he can finish the job."

Many thanks to NUFC.com reader George Pettit, who visited the last resting place of George Robledo in Santiago on the same day as the FA Cup Final - and left a suitable memento at his tomb:

Newcastle's Chilean cult hero is the subject of a recent book by Spencer Vignes, interviewing family members and their contemporaries to tell the largely unknown story, culminating in George's winning goal at Wembley in 1952.

Departure:
Kelly "confirmation"

Although the exact contractual terms weren't publicised, Sunday's victory for Juventus over Udinese looks to have removed any doubt that Lloyd Kelly's loan to the Italian side will be converted into a permanent move.

The three points were enough to confirm a top six finish in Serie A with one game remaining, meaning that they'll at least qualify for the European Conference League - and reportedly trigger completion of Kelly's deal by doing do.

The 26 year-old started Sunday's win, which was his fourteenth competitive league and cup appearance for Juventus - a figure claimed by some sources to have already met the threshold for a permanent move.

The terms of his departure from SJP in January were reportedly an initial £2.5m loan fee, a further £12m for triggering the purchase option and a subsequent £5m depending on contractual obligations being met.

On This Day in History

Born Or Died:

1957 Death of Jimmy Stewart, 73.
(1908-13)
But he did have a wonderful life....

1976 Stephen Glass born, Dundee, Scotland. (1998-2001)

Winger who came through the ranks at Aberdeen and made his first team debut against Dundee United in October 1994.

Going on to make 131 appearances for the Dons and score 13 goals, Glass allowed his contract to run down at the end of the 1997/98 season and quit Pittodrie for SJP, Newcastle paying £650,000 compensation.

Making his bow in a pre-season kickabout away at the smoggies, by the time Glass debuted in the Premier League as an early substitute in a 1-4 home loss to Liverpool, manager Kenny Dalglish had departed.

Becoming a regular choice under Ruud Gullit, Glass ended his first season
by playing in the final 11 minutes of the FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester United.

I
nternational recognition also cAme his way, with what proved to be his sole senior Scotland cap coming in a European Championship Qualifier against the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie in October 1998.

Under the rule of Bobby Robson the next season things started to go wrong for Stephen, with regular bench selections leading to a transfer request before his season was curtailed by a knee injury.

Fit again and off the transfer list, Glass
came off the bench to score the winner in a 3-2 home success against Derby County during August 2000.

However that campaign followed a similar pattern
,
Glass remaining a peripheral figure and netting in a season-closing win over Aston Villa before leaving as a free agent.

Joining Watford on a free transfer, Glass played there alongside on-loan Michael Chopra at one stage, netting in an FA Cup semi final loss to Southampton in April 2003 despite having just been told that his Hornets contract wouldn't be renewed.

The winger then returned to Scotland on a free transfer, signing for Hibernian but missing their League Cup Final defeat to Livingston at Hampden through injury.

A loan move to Dunfermline Athletic followed in January 2007 and although he was unable to prevent the Pars being relegated, he joined them on a free transfer in the close season.

Stephen made over 80 appearances and scored 11 goals for the East End Park side in three failed attempts at gaining promotion from the Scottish First Division.

Released by the Pars May 2010 after losing most of the season to injury, Glass had a brief trial with St.Mirren before signing for
US-based Carolina Railhawks.

January 2012 then saw Stephen appointed as assistant boss of Shamrock Rovers, after his former Pars team mate Stephen Kenny replaced ex-Magpie Michael O'Neill in charge of the Dublin-based side.

However, Kenny
was sacked in September 2012 and after briefly becoming caretaker manager, Glass wasn't part of new boss, Trevor Croly's backroom staff.

Returning to the USA as a youth coach for North Carolina Alliance, 2018 saw him join Atlanta United as a youth coach, taking charge of their second team a year later.

Following a stint as interim head coach in 2020, Stephen
returned to Scotland to become Aberdeen boss in March 2021.

He lasted less than a year however and was sacked in February 2022, heading to the USA once again to coach USL side Memphis 901 until they went out of business during November 2024.

Having opened up their post-season tour with a 1-0 victory over Ambrosiana Milan in Italy, United were beaten in Vienna.

1954 A humiliation for England, as a Puskas-inspired Hungary won 7-1 in a friendly match staged in Budapest. Ivor Broadis of Newcastle was in the England side.

1970 Gallowgate hosted the Northumberland Senior Cup final, with a 3-0 victory for Whitley Bay over North Shields giving the Seahorses a third consecutive win.

2,300 fans saw Cairns net in the first half before John Gatens hit a brace.

1972
A second full England cap for Newcastle striker Malcolm Macdonald gave him a first outing at Wembley, but he failed to impress and was substituted.

England lost the home international against Northern Ireland 1-0 in front of 64,000 fans.

1987 Over 64,000 fans saw a scoreless draw at Hampden Park between England and Scotland in the Rous Cup competition.

Newcastle's Peter Beardsley won his 15th senior cap alongside old boy Chris Waddle while the home side included future Magpies duo Roy Aitken and Neil Simpson.

1994 despite fielding an attack including Newcastle's Peter Beardsley and future Magpie Alan Shearer, England were held to a goalless draw at Wembley by Norway.

1996 The Euro 96 warm-ups were underway, with host nation England somewhat bizarrely travelling to face China in Beijing.

Newcastle's Peter Beardsley was in the side as a 3-0 win was recorded, thanks in part to a goal from Gazza.

1998 Another blank day at the Twin Towers, as England's World Cup preparations stuttered along with a 0-0 friendly draw against the might of Saudi Arabia.

United's David Batty & Alan Shearer featured, while old boys Paul Gascoigne (Rangers) and Les Ferdinand (Spurs) came off the bench.

2000 Bobby Robson was waiting to hear from the Portuguese FA whether Fernando Meira would become available after contract problems with his club Vitor Guimaraes.

Other rumours included: Kiko from Athletico Madrid, Damien Duff and Matt Jansen from Blackburn Rovers, Christian Bassedas from Velez Sarsfield and Neil Sullivan from Wimbledon.

2001 United's U17s attempted the impossible at SJP against Ipswich Town - trailing 0-5 after the first leg of their Play-off Final.

To their great credit, Newcastle won the second leg 2-0 thanks to goals from Tommy English and Richard Offiong.

An amazing 10,388 crowd turned up, despite the lure of the Champions League Final live on TV that same Tuesday night.
NUFC.com match report

2003 Although a deal was yet to be rubber-stamped, Lee Bowyer seemed certain to join Newcastle on a free from Leeds United after unsuccessfully trying to avoid relegation on loan with West Ham.

The controversial deal provoked strong emotions on Tyneside and had some questioning Bobby Robson's judgment.

2006 The mackems announced  a new partnership with a brewery, who became the Official Beer Partner of S*nderland AFC. That company? Scottish & Newcastle...!

2007 Sir John Hall confirmed that he had sold his Newcastle United shares to an unknown businessman named Mike Ashley, who was quoted thus:

"I am delighted to have this opportunity to invest in Newcastle United. The club has a fantastic infrastructure, for which Sir John and the board must take much of the credit. I am pleased that Sir John has agreed to remain as life president of the club.

"Newcastle United has a wonderful heritage and the passion of its fans is legendary. I am sure that, like me, they are already excited about the prospects for next season under the new manager's stewardship (Sam Allardyce)."

Chairman Freddy Shepherd was recovering from pneumonia and a collapsed lung in hospital at the time and defiantly responded:

"There is nothing Mike Ashley can do with this club unless he gets 75% of the stake. He can’t take full control, he can’t change resolutions or the club’s articles of association.

"He has spent more than £50m, but he will have to spend a whole lot more as he must now make an offer not just for my shares, but the shares held by all the other shareholders."

Shepherd sold his 28% holding to Ashley in June 2007 and formally stood down as Chairman and a director a month later.

2011 Following a successful trial, 18 year-old midfielder Mehdi Abeid agreed a five year contract with United.

Previously with Racing Club Lens in his native France, Abeid had been released and was a free agent.

Romain Amalfitano's long-predicted move to Newcastle was confirmed, with the French winger officially becoming a Magpie on July 1st when his contract with Reims expired. A four year deal was agreed.

2013 United made a statement confirming that Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and Alan Pardew had met to rake over the ashes of the club's 2012/13 Premier League season.

Llambias said:
"Everyone connected with the Club was disappointed to finish where we did last season, particularly on the back of such a fantastic year prior to that.

"Our discussions on Wednesday were very constructive and we pinpointed a number of factors that contributed to a season which fell below expectations.

"We are now looking forward and are entirely focused on the forthcoming campaign, with the expectation of at least a top-ten finish in the Premier League.

"There has been a great deal of speculation in recent weeks but our desire, as we announced back in September, is to bring long-term stability to this Club.

"It's up to us all now to work closely as a team to ensure next season sees us competing in the top half of the table again.

"We would all like to thank the fans for their continued support and assure them we remain committed to providing affordable football at St. James' Park."

That "long-term stability" lasted less than two months however, before Llambias quit the club following the installation of Joe Kinnear as Director of f***all.

A second win over relegated opposition in five days saw Newcastle conclude their season positively, attaining a barely believable 12th place finish thanks to a goal in each half at Craven Cottage.

Only a few months earlier this fixture had the look of a relegation shootout, but United finished a whopping 17 points clear of former Magpie Scott Parker's Cottagers.

It was his final game in charge and he departed for Bournemouth soon after.
