Update:
Dan deal done

Newcastle United have confirmed a one year contract extension for Dan Burn, keeping the England international defender at Gallowgate until 2027.

Burn, who turned 33 earlier this month, has made 148 appearances in all competitions since completing a £13m switch from Brighton and Hove Albion in January 2022.

Sky Sports report that provision for an additional 12 month deal exists in Burn's revised contract.

Premier League:
Everton (h)

Eddie Howe's side conclude their Premier League season on Sunday by hosting the Toffees at SJP in a 4pm kick-off.

There's no live UK TV coverage, with Liverpool versus Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest versus Chelsea on Sky Sports. TNT Sports meanwhile will show Manchester United versus Aston Villa.

NUFC are repeating their pre-match free drink offer, this time giving fans who arrive between 2pm and 3pm two drinks vouchers to be redeemed by 3.30pm.

The Magpies will debut their 2025/26 season Adidas home kit, the first time that they've previewed a kit in the last game of the season since 2019/20 (Liverpool home).

With a top five position required for Champions League qualification, Newcastle sit fourth, one of three sides on 66 points but with a superior goal difference to the others.

Latest Premier League table - top 10:

After Wolves lost at Crystal Palace on Tuesday, Everton have absolutely nothing to play for - guaranteed to finish 13th in the Premier League, regardless of other results.

Team:
Lewis Hall and Matt Targett won't feature.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Eddie Howe confirmed that Joelinton's season was over but Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier both had a chance of facing Everton.

The appearance of Isak in the Sweden squad selection on Thursday for two kickabouts early next month had raised hopes that he'd feature for his club on Sunday.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 7/20
The draw 17/4
EFC win 7/1

EFC:
James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite,  Seamus Coleman, Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala all miss out.

Everton have confirmed the departures of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia under freedom of contract after this game.

Since David Moyes returned to the Toffees, his side have lost just two of their nine PL games away from Goodison Park, winning four times and drawing the other three.

Moyes had an eventful last visit to Gallowgate in March 2024, seeing his West Ham side 3-1 ahead early in the second half but then go on to lose 4-3.

Referee:
Tony Harrington - first Newcastle game of the season for the Hartlepool-born whistler. His most recent Toon games were both at SJP in the latter stages of the 2023/24 season - a 1-1 draw with Everton and a 5-1 win over Sheffield United.

Championship:
Up North

A 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Wembley on Saturday confirmed that the mackems will return to the Premier League next season for the first time since 2016/17.

The red and whites will join Burnley and Leeds United in the top flight, with Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City returning to the Championship.

That all means that Newcastle's PL mileage in 2025/26 will drop by a whopping 1,300 miles from 9,462 to 8,162.

RGR:
"An incredible effort"

Speaking to the media on Friday, Magpies boss Eddie Howe had this to say about Mark Allison and his charity exploits:

"I'm not sure I could be doing that at this moment in time....but an incredible effort, first and foremost, to run across the United States of America isn't something that everyone can do. So I'd just like to wish him all the luck.

"I think when you're feeling tired, and I will always say this to the players, you've just got to try and keep going. From his perspective, just put one leg in front of the other and really you're going to have to go deep.

"You're going to have to go to all your motivational tools that you have and he's probably going to spend a lot of time going back to his family and his childhood experiences to try and get through in amongst the pain.

"I have heard about his story and I think it's an incredible effort. What a brilliant cause to raise money for. So congratulations to him and fingers crossed he can finish the job."

Once upon a Tyne

A host of scarcely believable stories are retold, featuring a cast of Magpie characters from Joe Harvey to Alan Shearer via Gazza, Kevin Keegan and Bruce ****ing Springsteen...

Newcastle were just one goal and one point away from survival, but to see the way they whimpered out of the Premier League at Villa Park, you'd never have guessed it.

In a second half that simply defied belief, home 'keeper Brad Friedel didn't have a single save to make as Alan Shearer's side gave a clueless, heartless and shambolic display.

To claim that the killer blow - a deflection via Damien Duff - was unlucky would be to ignore 94 minutes of utter tripe that quite rightly resulted in relegation.

However, it was incredibly fitting that United ultimately shot themselves in the foot to deliver that final blow, the fact that it came via one of several misfiring superstars summed up an entire season of own goals.

Manchester United and Chelsea beat Hull and the mackems respectively, meaning we only needed to draw, but it never looked likely as Villa could have cruised to a larger victory - had they bothered to get out of second gear.

Sam Allardyce's Hammers proved to be the perfect opposition, with both he and former Magpie Kevin Nolan about to take their leave and as uninterested as their colleagues (Andy Carroll was injured just for a change).

Two second half goals ensured survival to the delight of interim boss John Carver, although the 0-0 draw Steve Bruce's Hull City side played out against Manchester United meant that the score on Tyneside was irrelevant.

Mike Ashley made an unexpected live TV appearance pre-match, confirming that the club wasn't for sale at any price - regardless of whether it was relegated.

A shadow Newcastle side were deservedly dismantled by a domestic select XI at the Marvel Stadium in the Australian city of Melbourne.

32 year-old goalkeeper Mark Gillespie led out a rookie line-up with a combined total of zero Premier League starts and they unsurprisingly floundered against an experienced side including four senior internationals.
