Callum comeback
still a possibility
Friday saw Newcastle confirm their retained and
released player lists, Jamal Lewis and Lloyd Kelly the only
two confirmed departures - the former becoming a free agent and the latter
completing a permanent move to Juventus.
Callum Wilson and John Ruddy remain under contract at
Gallowgate until the end of June, United revealing that they "have
opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts
could still be agreed."
Following announcements regarding contract extensions for Dan Burn, Emil
Krafth and Fabian Schar, the club confirm that an option has been exercised
for back-up goalkeeper Mark Gillespie to remain at SJP for a further
12 months.
Six members of the club's Development squad are also exiting: midfield pair
Ellis Stanton and James Huntley, attacking duo Jay Turner-Cooke and Josh
Donaldson and the Powell twins Harry and Rory - both defenders.
PS: The lack of any updates concerning goalkeeper Max Thompson and
midfielder Joe White looks to confirm that both have contracts running
beyond 2025 - something previously undisclosed anywhere we've noticed.

Oliver's (Toon) Army

The
Mail report that Newcastle are set to complete a deal for Rangers left
back Oliver Goodbrand, with the 16 year-old heading to Tyneside soon
for his medical.
The Scottish U16 international debuted for the Rangers B team in a Glasgow
Cup game aged 15 and as an academy scholar would be available upon payment
of compensation.

Toon Tone confirmed
Newcastle
announced on Thursday that they had reached agreement to sign Spaniard Antonio
Cordero when his contract with Spanish side Malaga expires on July 1st.
The 18 year-old right-footed winger made the first of 60 senior appearances
for his previous side in September 2023, ending last season with six goals
from 39 games as Malaga narrowly avoided relegation from the second tier.
Travelling to Tyneside in recent days to complete the formalities of his
transfer, Cordero is now preparing to feature at the U19 European
Championship finals.
Defending champions Spain are paired in Group A with Denmark, Romania
and Montenegro in the eight team tournament staged in Romania.
Quotes from outgoing Sporting Director Paul Mitchell that Cordero was sought
by other clubs in Spain and across Europe back up media claims of interest
from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax and Spurs.
A five year contract is claimed in the Spanish press for the player known as
Antonito, United confirming that they plan to loan him out next
season.
Ajax have been mooted as one possible destination; United successfully
placing Yankuba Minteh with Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord following his
arrival in July 2023.
Update:
The Spanish
acquisition(s)
 Confirmation
of Cordero's capture comes 11 years to the day that United unveiled Ayoze
Perez at SJP, following his purchase from Spanish second tier side
Tenerife.
The 20 year-old forward reportedly rejected offers from both Barcelona and
Real Madrid and was immediately integrated with United's first team squad.
Newcastle's next two attempts at bringing Spanish-born prospects to Tyneside
proved less successful however, starting with Jesus Nunez Cumbreras
in late 2016.
The 17 year-old forward known as Juanito initially came on trial from
Spanish Third Division side Recreativo De Huelva but hadn't made a
competitive reserve debut when loaned to Deportivo La Coruna in January
2018.
That failed to give him any significant
pitch time and Juanito remained a peripheral figure for Newcastle's U23 side
the following season before exiting in 2019.
Subsequently playing for several minor league sides in Spain, we lost track
of him back in 2023.
Faring slightly better in black and white was winger Victor Fernandez,
arriving as an 18 year-old from Cornella on a long-term contract in February
2017.
Some decent displays for the club's U23 side saw him earn a senior call-up
for a kickabout against Royal Antwerp staged in Spain during March 2018.
However a hip injury then affected his progress at United and he was
eventually released in 2020, playing for clubs in Romania, Greece and Cyprus
as well as Cornella again.
Aside from their country of birth, our Spanish quartet all have the common
trait of becoming Magpies whilst Steve Nickson was in either a
scouting or recruitment role.

Moving on up
The 2025/26 season Magpie Mover is now on sale via NUFC, with the
price fixed at £25 (no concessions).
The ticket covers competitive men's first team games at SJP, allowing one
direct return trip via specified public transport within Tyne and wear up to
three hours before kick-off to the end of daily service
post-match.
NUFC's launch announcement reveals that Magpie Movers now come as a digital
mobile download, although lacking the capability to open ticket barriers.
There's no mention of continued availability in an alternative card
format.
For the first time, Magpie Movers can be purchased by Mags+ members
in addition to season ticket holders.

2025/26:
£30's still plenty
Tuesday saw the Premier League confirm that the £30 adult away
ticket price cap will continue into the 2025/26 season - the tenth
successive season this limit has applied.
UEFA announced last year that away ticket prices for 2025/26 Champions
League games would be pegged at €50.
2025/26:
Sela Cup (h) update
Spanish side Atletico Madrid are
confirmed as United's pre-season friendly opponents at SJP, contesting the Sela Cup over a single match as was the case in 2024.
Finishing third in La Liga last season, Diego Simeone's side visit
Gallowgate on Saturday August 9th with a 4pm start, following
a game between the respective women's teams that will kick off there at 1pm.
Tickets are now on public sale and cover both games. Prices are £25 for standard areas and
£30 for others.
PS: Newcastle lost 1-4 to Atletico in Madrid during a post-season tour of
Spain and Germany back in 1956.
2025/26:
Celtic (a) update
Tickets for Newcastle's visit
to Parkhead next month are now on public sale to home fans, Celtic season
ticket holders having largely voted with their feet during the dedicated
sales period for them that ended on Monday.
That apathetic response has been explained by Celtic's decision to charge
season ticket holders to attend, having previously included a friendly game
in their renewals.
United's last visit to the east end of Glasgow in 2004 saw the same
situation unfold, resulting in a crowd of 20,000 - almost 40,000 less than
were present for our 1999 game.
Initially at least, only the areas opened up to home season ticket holders
appear on the seating plan for public sale - the Main Stand and lower tier
of opposite North Stand.
The Magpies were allocated and sold 7,200 tickets.
Update:
CEO: new name linked
Following confirmation that current Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales is to
stand down this month on medical grounds, speculation over his successor has
intensified.
Links with Collette Roche - formerly of Manchester United - were followed by
mentions of Donna-Maria Cullen after news of her departure from Spurs was
confirmed, before more substantial claims of a different candidate emerged.
According to the Mail that is David Hopkinson, who they reported on
Monday had been interviewed by the Magpies regarding the soon-to-be-vacant
role at Gallowgate.
The 54 year-old Canadian had been in charge of the US-based Madison Square
Garden Sports Corporation and was Global Head of Partnerships for Real
Madrid between 2018 and 2020.
Hopkinson also had an earlier involvement with sports
teams in Toronto, which included MLS side Toronto FC.
Update:
Box office hours
NUFC have announced a
reduction in box office opening hours, in recognition that the majority of
purchases and supporter queries are now processed online or by phone.
The Milburn Stand box office will now only be open on Wednesdays, between
10am and 5pm.
Home matchday opening is from 10am until half time.
Telephone lines will be open as follows:
Monday to Friday: between 10am and 5pm.
Home matchdays: 10am until 30 minutes before kick-off.
Away matchdays: Three hours before kick off until kick off.

2025/26:
Korea opportunities
From NUFC:
Our men's team will play matches in South Korea for the first time in the
club's history this summer.
Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, we will
take part in the prestigious Coupang Play Series 2025, one of Asia's biggest
summer sporting events.
Eddie Howe's men will head to South
Korea for two highly anticipated games where we will face a K-League Select
XI, followed by an all-Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Venues and fixture dates are set to be
announced in coming weeks, along with ticket details for fans in South Korea
as well as those wishing to travel to support us.
This will be the fourth staging of the annual Coupang Play event, with
four of the six games to date played at the 65,000 capacity World Cup
Stadium in Seoul (pictured above), including both 2024 fixtures.
The football-asian.com website claims United's game against the K-League XI
will be played at the 42,000 capacity Suwon World Cup Stadium near
Seoul.
2025/26:
Champions League dates
Next
season's CL timetable is as follows:
Champions League
2025/26:
NUFC are one of 36 clubs qualifying for the League stage.
All 36 clubs play 8 matches against different opponents in a single
league. For the purpose of the draw the clubs are divided into 4 pots. The
CL title-holder is placed in pot 1.
The remaining places of pot 1 and the other pots are filled according to the
club ranking. Each club will be drawn against two opponents from each of the
4 pots, playing one match at home and one match away against them.
Clubs from the same country will not be drawn against each other in the
league phase and each team plays at most against a maximum of two opponents
from any other country (providing a deadlock in the draw can be avoided).
The top 8 clubs of the league stage qualify directly for the round of 16,
while the clubs at rank 9 to 24 go to the play-off round of the knockout
stage. The clubs that finish at rank 25 to 36 are eliminated. In the
knockout stage there is no country protection.

Born Or Died:
1966 Mark Gill born, Dublin,
Ireland.
(1988-90)

Striker spotted playing for Dublin side
Home Farm in 1988 by Magpies coach Mick Martin, who
arranged for Gill to travel to Tyneside to play in a trial
game in the presence of manager Willie McFaul.
Scoring twice in a reserve fixture against Barnsley with a
certain Gazza in the same side, Mark earned a contract at
SJP but suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament at the start
of the following season.
Finding form again for the reserves after returning from
further surgery, incoming manager Jim Smith opted to
release Gill and he returned to Ireland.
After a series of operations on his knee, Mark was advised
to retire from full-time football, joining Shelbourne as a
part-timer in 1991.
Moving on to Sligo Rovers, Gill was soon back at
Shelbourne before agreeing to sign for Belfast side
Cliftonville.
Ending his career back at Home Farm in a midfield role,
Mark spent a season coaching the reserves before
departing. He later worked in a marketing role for Aer
Lingus.
1994 Death
of Jackie Cape, 82.
(1930-34) Remembered as the scorer of the only goal of
Hughie Gallacher's emotional homecoming to SJP with
Chelsea in 1930.

What Else?
|
1908 Newcastle's
Jock Rutherford won his eighth cap for England as they
defeated Austria 6-1 in a friendly played in Vienna.
What was the national side's 95th recognised fixture was
also the first staged outside of the British Isles.
1999 England boss Kevin Keegan drafted in Kieron Dyer
from the U21 squad to his first team pool ahead of a Euro
2000 qualifier in Sofia against Bulgaria.
However it would be September's home game against
Luxembourg that saw the midfielder gain his first full cap
- by which time he'd swapped Portman Road for SJP.
2000 The
Chronicle claimed that United had a £1.25m
agreement in place for AB Copenhagen striker Peter
Lovenkrands.
However the 20 year-old ended up at Ibrox as Rangers
hijacked the deal and wouldn't move to SJP until 2009.
2001 Newcastle
United tabled plans for a huge leisure and retail complex
on land around St James Metro Station.
The centre piece was a 200-bed hotel, with cinemas, bars,
a nightclub and 45 flats along with a multi-storey car
park.
2001 The Magpies were one of 11 teams included in the
Fair Play League draw for a place in the UEFA Cup
Preliminary Round.
However Finnish and Slovakian sides were picked, United
remaining unselected.
2003 Newcastle's interminable pursuit of
Feyenoord's Brett Emerton continued, Sir Bobby Robson
refusing to confirm or deny press speculation of a
further bid for the highly-rated Australian wing
back.
2004 Departures
from SJP included Steve Caldwell - signing a
pre-contract agreement with the mackems - while Pompey
continued to haggle over a transfer fee for Lomana LuaLua.
2005 Newcastle's
Darren Ambrose was in the England U20 side who beat South
Korea 3-0 to set up a semi-final against hosts
France at the Toulon Tournament.
Fellow Magpies James and Milner and Steven Taylor were
unused substitutes in La Seyne.
2007 Just
over a year after his last goal, Michael Owen's 37th
England strike came in a 3-0 win over Estonia at the A Le
Coq Arena.
Steve McClaren introduced fellow Magpie Kieron Dyer as a
second half substitute, winning his 32nd senior cap.
2009 United's Damien Duff played 90 minutes in a
World Cup Qualifier for the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1
draw with Bulgaria in Sofia.
Meanwhile, Shane Ferguson made a senior debut for
Northern Ireland from the bench as a scratch side lost 0-3
to Italy in Pisa.
2011
Michael Richardson and Ryan Donaldson won
new deals at SJP, but fellow reserves
Aaron Spear, Patrick McLaughlin, Dan Leadbitter and
Matthew Grieve all left.
2012
Despite failing to steer Birmingham
City into the Premier League via the playoffs, former Toon
boss Chris Hughton looked set to secure a top flight
return after Norwich City gained permission to interview
him.
Amid speculation that he would fill the West Bromwich
Albion vacancy, Hughton opted for Carrow Road.
Meanwhile, ex-Magpie coach Steve Clarke was the first
casualty of the Brendan Rodgers revolution at Liverpool,
leaving the post he had held at Anfield since January
2011.
2015
Sky Sports News reported that Steve McClaren was in
talks with Newcastle about the managerial vacancy but
nothing was being announced before McClaren went away on
holiday. Butlins, presumably.
2020 Following an enforced break of almost three
months due to COVID-19 restrictions, football returned to
SJP as two Newcastle XIs met behind closed doors.
It finished 1-1, the side clad in the orange change kit
leading through Joelinton's close range shot before a
Nabil Bentaleb's shot from distance drew the black and
whites level.
In line with agreed guidelines, the match was officiated
by club staff with Steve Harper refereeing.
2022 The Premier League finally ratified the
appointment of Dan Ashworth as Newcastle's new Sporting
Director, some six months after previous club Brighton and
Hove Albion had allowed him to speak with the Magpies.
Ashworth had left his
post at the Seagulls after a formal offer from United in
February, but was placed on gardening leave until
agreement was reached over compensation for the remainder
of his contract.
