Callum comeback
still a possibility
Friday saw Newcastle confirm their retained and
released player lists, Jamal Lewis and Lloyd Kelly the only
two confirmed departures - the former becoming a free agent and the latter
completing a permanent move to Juventus.
Callum Wilson and John Ruddy remain under contract at
Gallowgate until the end of June, United revealing that they "have
opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts
could still be agreed."
Following announcements regarding contract extensions for Dan Burn, Emil
Krafth and Fabian Schar, the club confirm that an option has been exercised
for back-up goalkeeper Mark Gillespie to remain at SJP for a further
12 months.
Six members of the club's Development squad are also exiting: midfield pair
Ellis Stanton and James Huntley, attacking duo Jay Turner-Cooke and Josh
Donaldson and the Powell twins Harry and Rory - both defenders.
PS: The lack of any updates concerning goalkeeper Max Thompson and
midfielder Joe White looks to confirm that both have contracts running
beyond 2025 - something previously undisclosed anywhere we've noticed.

Oliver's (Toon) Army

The
Mail report that Newcastle are set to complete a deal for Rangers left
back Oliver Goodbrand, with the 16 year-old heading to Tyneside soon
for his medical.
The Scottish U16 international debuted for the Rangers B team in a Glasgow
Cup game aged 15 and as an academy scholar would be available upon payment
of compensation.
PS: reports north of the border have also credited United with interest in a
second Ibrox starlet, in the shape of winger Alfie Hutchinson.
The 16 year-old joined Rangers from Hearts in 2024 and like Goodbrand, has
played at B team level in the Glasgow Cup.

Toon Tone confirmed
Newcastle
announced on Thursday that they had reached agreement to sign Spaniard Antonio
Cordero when his contract with Spanish side Malaga expires on July 1st.
The 18 year-old right-footed winger made the first of 60 senior appearances
for his previous side in September 2023, ending last season with six goals
from 39 games as Malaga narrowly avoided relegation from the second tier.
Travelling to Tyneside in recent days to complete the formalities of his
transfer, Cordero is now preparing to feature at the U19 European
Championship finals.
Defending champions Spain are paired in Group A with Denmark, Romania
and Montenegro in the eight team tournament staged in Romania.
Quotes from outgoing Sporting Director Paul Mitchell that Cordero was sought
by other clubs in Spain and across Europe back up media claims of interest
from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax and Spurs.
A five year contract is claimed in the Spanish press for the player known as
Antonito, United confirming that they plan to loan him out next
season.
Ajax have been mooted as one possible destination; United successfully
placing Yankuba Minteh with Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord following his
arrival in July 2023.
Update:
The Spanish
acquisition(s)
 Confirmation
of Cordero's capture comes 11 years to the day that United unveiled Ayoze
Perez at SJP, following his purchase from Spanish second tier side
Tenerife.
The 20 year-old forward reportedly rejected offers from both Barcelona and
Real Madrid and was immediately integrated with United's first team squad.
Newcastle's next two attempts at bringing Spanish-born prospects to Tyneside
proved less successful however, starting with Jesus Nunez Cumbreras
in late 2016.
The 17 year-old forward known as Juanito initially came on trial from
Spanish Third Division side Recreativo De Huelva but hadn't made a
competitive reserve debut when loaned to Deportivo La Coruna in January
2018.
That failed to give him any significant
pitch time and Juanito remained a peripheral figure for Newcastle's U23 side
the following season before exiting in 2019.
Subsequently playing for several minor league sides in Spain, we lost track
of him back in 2023.
Faring slightly better in black and white was winger Victor Fernandez,
arriving as an 18 year-old from Cornella on a long-term contract in February
2017.
Some decent displays for the club's U23 side saw him earn a senior call-up
for a kickabout against Royal Antwerp staged in Spain during March 2018.
However a hip injury then affected his progress at United and he was
eventually released in 2020, playing for clubs in Romania, Greece and Cyprus
as well as Cornella again.
Aside from their country of birth, our Spanish quartet all have the common
trait of becoming Magpies whilst Steve Nickson was in either a
scouting or recruitment role.
2025/26:
Moving on up
The 2025/26 season Magpie Mover is now on sale via NUFC, with the
price fixed at £25 (no concessions).
The ticket covers competitive men's first team games at SJP, allowing one
direct return trip via specified public transport within Tyne and wear up to
three hours before kick-off to the end of daily service
post-match.
NUFC's launch announcement reveals that Magpie Movers now come as a digital
mobile download, although lacking the capability to open ticket barriers.
There's no mention of continued availability in an alternative card
format.
For the first time, Magpie Movers can be purchased by Mags+ members
in addition to season ticket holders.

2025/26:
£30's still plenty
Tuesday saw the Premier League confirm that the £30 adult away
ticket price cap will continue into the 2025/26 season - the tenth
successive season this limit has applied.
UEFA announced last year that away ticket prices for 2025/26 Champions
League games would be pegged at €50.
2025/26:
Sela Cup (h) update
Spanish side Atletico Madrid are
confirmed as United's pre-season friendly opponents at SJP, contesting the Sela Cup over a single match as was the case in 2024.
Finishing third in La Liga last season, Diego Simeone's side visit
Gallowgate on Saturday August 9th with a 4pm start, following
a game between the respective women's teams that will kick off there at 1pm.
Tickets are now on public sale and cover both games. Prices are £25 for standard areas and
£30 for others.
PS: Newcastle lost 1-4 to Atletico in Madrid during a post-season tour of
Spain and Germany back in 1956.
2025/26:
Celtic (a) update
Tickets for Newcastle's visit
to Parkhead next month are now on public sale to home fans, Celtic season
ticket holders having largely voted with their feet during the dedicated
sales period for them.
That apathetic response has been explained by Celtic's decision to charge
season ticket holders to attend, having previously included a friendly game
in their renewals.
United's last visit to the east end of Glasgow in 2004 saw the same
situation unfold, resulting in a crowd of 20,000 - almost 40,000 less than
were present for our 1999 game.
Initially at least, only the areas opened up to home season ticket holders
appear on the seating plan for public sale - the Main Stand and lower tier
of opposite North Stand.
The Magpies were allocated and sold 7,200 tickets.
Update:
CEO: new name linked
Following confirmation that current Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales is to
stand down this month on medical grounds, speculation over his successor has
intensified.
Links with Collette Roche - formerly of Manchester United - were followed by
mentions of Donna-Maria Cullen after news of her departure from Spurs was
confirmed, before more substantial claims of a different candidate emerged.
According to the Mail that is David Hopkinson, who they reported on
Monday had been interviewed by the Magpies regarding the soon-to-be-vacant
role at Gallowgate.
The 54 year-old Canadian had been in charge of the US-based Madison Square
Garden Sports Corporation and was Global Head of Partnerships for Real
Madrid between 2018 and 2020.
Hopkinson also had an earlier involvement with sports
teams in Toronto, which included MLS side Toronto FC.
Update:
Box office hours
NUFC have announced a
reduction in box office opening hours, in recognition that the majority of
purchases and supporter queries are now processed online or by phone.
The Milburn Stand box office will now only be open on Wednesdays, between
10am and 5pm.
Home matchday opening is from 10am until half time.
Telephone lines will be open as follows:
Monday to Friday: between 10am and 5pm.
Home matchdays: 10am until 30 minutes before kick-off.

Korea opportunities
From NUFC:
Our men's team will play matches in South Korea for the first time in the
club's history this summer.
Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, we will
take part in the prestigious Coupang Play Series 2025, one of Asia's biggest
summer sporting events.
Eddie Howe's men will head to South
Korea for two highly anticipated games where we will face a K-League Select
XI, followed by an all-Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Venues and fixture dates are set to be
announced in coming weeks, along with ticket details for fans in South Korea
as well as those wishing to travel to support us.
This will be the fourth staging of the annual Coupang Play event, with
four of the six games to date played at the 65,000 capacity World Cup
Stadium in Seoul (pictured above), including both 2024 fixtures.
The football-asian.com website claims United's game against the K-League XI
will be played at the 42,000 capacity Suwon World Cup Stadium near
Seoul.

Born Or Died:
1906 Death of Johnny Campbell, 36. (1897-98)

1933 Archie Simpson born
Dundee, Scotland) (1955-56)
Right
back signed on a free transfer from Dundee in June 1955, Magpies Supremo Stan
Seymour predicting that Simpson would take over the position that had been
filled by Bobby Cowell.
A Scottish schoolboy international, Archie had missed most of the previous
season due to illness and joined United after his completing national service
with the Black Watch Regiment - captaining their football team as a centre
half.
A scoring debut for the reserves in a 4-0 Central League win over Preston
North End came when playing as an inside forward but he failed to make the
transition to the first team and was released in May 1956.
Following fellow Magpie Joe Harvey to Barrow, Archie spent three seasons with
the Holker Street side in the Third Division North, re-christened to Division
Four.
Returning to Scotland with Brechin City in 1959, Simpson found employment at
the Astral electronics firm and Timex, both in his native Dundee.
Working as a school caretaker until 1998, Archie suffered from Parkinson's
disease and was also diagnosed with dementia in 2012. He died in August 2019
aged 86.
1929 Tommy Dixon born, Newcastle
(194?-51)
Centre forward Tommy came through the ranks at Gallowgate
without making it into the first team squad, moving on to West Ham during
1951.
Scoring a respectable 25 goals in 44 league and cup appearances, the 1953/54
campaign saw him finished top scorer for the Hammers with 19 goals.
Joining third tier Reading for a £2,700 fee in March 1955,
Dixon netted against Newcastle when they made a friendly visit to Elm Park in
October 1956.
Later serving Brighton & Hove Albion, Workington and Barrow, Tommy
succeeded Lawrie McMenemy as Bishop Auckland manager in 1967 but lasted less
than a year at Kingsway.
Tommy's death was reported during February 2014, when he was living in the
Watford area.
1944 David Craig born, Comber, Northern Ireland. (1960-78)
Arriving on Tyneside as a 16 year old (after an unsuccessful
trial at Scunthorpe United), right back David was a part of Newcastle's
1962 FA Youth Cup winning side.
Making his senior bow in a League Cup tie at Bournemouth in
late 1963, David remained an integral part of the first team at SJP until a
2-1 home loss to Arsenal in November 1977 saw him make his final appearance.
That loyalty left him in sixth position in the club's record
appearance makers, although he dropped down a place in May 2007, when Shay
Given surpassed his total.
2009 saw David joining his former United colleagues in
celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Fairs Cup win.
Craig played in nine of the 12 games in that campaign - including both legs of
the final - a hamstring pull at home to Zaragoza game seeing him replaced by
John Craggs against Setubal and at Ibrox versus Rangers.
Also appearing in the Fairs Cup campaigns of the following two seasons, injury
caused this one club man to miss our unsuccessful trips to Wembley in 1974
(dislocated shoulder) and 1976 (medial ligament).
Remaining at SJP to feature in the UEFA Cup during the 1977/78
season, David also won 25 full caps for Northern Ireland between 1967 and 1974
- a good number of them in the left back berth.
Awarded a testimonial match in 1975, Craig played on for Blyth Spartans after
leaving United and also turned out for Dunston Mechanics (later Dunston Fed /
UTS).
Remaining on Tyneside, David became a care worker after previous stints as a
milkman and newsagent.
1974 Peter Cormack born, Southport. (1992-94)
Peter began his career with Hutcheson Vale in the Edinburgh
area before joining Meadowbank Thistle in 1990, although he barely featured
for their first team.
July 1992 then saw Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan add the son of one-time
Anfield colleague Peter Cormack (senior) to his squad at a cost of £10,000.
Given the number 27 squad number before Philippe Albert's arrival, Cormack
failed to make a senior appearance for the Magpies, but was on the bench for
an Anglo Italian Cup tie away to Bari in December 1992.
Following unsuccessful trials with both St. Johnstone and Brighton and Hove
Albion, Peter joined Greenock Morton in August 1994 - where his father was
assistant manager.
Later moves took him on to Raith Rovers, Stirling Albion, Clydebank, Ross
County, Stenhousemuir, Albion Rovers, Bo'ness United and finally Arbroath -
retiring in 2006.
Working for the Royal Bank of Scotland, he was recruited by the
Edinburgh-based financial advisers Towry during 2012.
Cormack also worked as a match summariser for a Scottish radio station.

Controversy as United claimed to be the victims of a phantom goal, netted by
Albert Stubbins but then refused by wearside whistler Harry Nattrass.
The incident came with City 4-2 ahead on 74 minutes, Stubbins appearing
to have beaten former Magpie goalkeeper Bill McPhillips and found the
corner of the net.
Nattrass however disagreed and restarted play with a goal kick.
Oblivious to that, The
Journal reported on a 4-4 draw and observed that City were fortunate to
leave on level terms against a home side including nine juniors.
A similar report made The Yorkshire Post.
Members of the British Expeditionary Force recently repatriated from
Dunkirk were granted free admission to the game.

While a more youthful side were hosting the
Bantams on Tyneside, a senior XI were triumphant at Elland Road.
Both sides were representing Newcastle in the same competition in order
to complete the fixtures.
The same B.E.F. offer applied at his game, with more than half the crowd
claiming free admission as a consequence.
Team: McVay, Craig, Ancell,
Dodgson, Denmark, Bradley, Moses, A.Gilholme, Cairns, Blackburn,
Pearson.
1964 Newcastle beat off a host of clubs
to sign centre forward Neil Armstrong following a season when he netted 90 goals
for school and county - the latter in tandem with Colin Suggett.
Representatives of both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Wolves, West Bromwich
Albion, Birmingham City, Leicester City, Bury, West Ham United and Preston North
End all visited the Armstrong family home in Washington, but Magpies scout
Temple Lisle secured the 15 year-old.
Turning down a professional contract at Gallowgate, Neil later appeared for
Usworth Juniors and Bishop Auckland while attending Gateshead Grammar School.
Studying in the Midlands and playing for Loughborough Colleges, he later moved
on to Rugby Town, Hinckley Athletic and AP Leamington.
2000 A couple of rumours were reported
in the press: Didier Domi deserting to PSG and Gary Speed leaving for Manchester
City. The former would come to pass.
2001 Gary Speed's red card in the final
game of the season against Aston Villa was rescinded. Our old 'friend' Barry
Knight had sent off both Speed and Villa's Ian Taylor for a very minor scuffle
at SJP.
2003 Peter Beardsley put in one of his
finest performances in a black and white shirt at the tender age of 42. Pedro strapped
on his shooting boots to pound the mackems and smoggies with a staggering
nine-goal salvo at the Telewest Arena on Tyneside.
Newcastle won the Northern Masters indoor football tournament in some style,
beating Boro 5-2 to clinch the title after thumping the mackems 7-1. Beardsley
hit a hat-trick in the final and five against the mackems, adding to one in an
earlier game against Boro.
2005 The Republic of Ireland's World Cup
qualifying campaign got back on track with a 2-0 win in the Faroe Islands.
Shay Given and Stephen
Carr played the full game in Tórshavn as the Irish prevailed 2-0. Newcastle's
Andy O'Brien was sidelined after attempts failed to overturn his unwarranted
dismissal against Israel the previous weekend.
2006 Midfielder Lee
Bowyer returned to West Ham for an undisclosed fee after three chequered years
on Tyneside.
2009 Eight days after Mike Ashley announced his
intention to sell via The Sunday Times, the club put out the following
statement:
"The Board of Newcastle United can today confirm that the Club is for
sale at the price of £100m.
Interested parties should contact Newcastle United at [email protected] (or Keith
Harris at Seymour Pierce) for further details.

2010 United boss Chris Hughton refuted speculation linking Andy Carroll
with a move to Chelsea:
"I can say 100% that I have not heard
anything from Chelsea, to me that is just speculation - we’ve got no intention
of seeing Andy Carroll leave Newcastle United.
"The reasons for that are he has the
right profile, he’s a young player and he’s got a big future here with
us."

sold out SJP, the first live gigs at the ground since 2014.

first senior arrival of the close season was full back Matt Targett, secured on
a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

and arrived on a four year deal at a cost of £15m that included the loan fee.
2022 Castore's second season as Newcastle's kit supplier saw the
unveiling of a new home shirt - and confirmation that sponsors FUN88 were

FUN88 deal early, allowing a more lucrative sponsorship to begin in 2023.
2024
Magpies prospect Yankuba
Minteh netted during Gambia's 5-1 World Cup qualifying win over the Seychelles.
Less than a month later however, the 19 year-old would become a Brighton player
