2025/26:
Extra home friendly
Newcastle confirm that they will play an
additional pre-season friendly fixture at St. James' Park, facing Spaniards Espanyol in
a 7.30pm kick-off on Friday August 8th.
That's the night before the sold-out visit of fellow La Liga side Atletico
Madrid to Gallowgate - the fourth successive season that Eddie Howe's side
have concluded their preparations with back to back home kickabouts.
Tickets go on sale at 10am on Tuesday, June 24th with no
exclusive period for ST holders or members - it's open to everyone with a
box office account at that time.
Cheapest adult tickets cost £20.
The two sides last met in a pre-season kickabout staged at Espanyol's former
home at Montjuic Stadium in August 2000, the hosts running out 2-1 winners.
The Magpies did rather better against Espanyol in Spain during May 1960,
securing a 5-2 victory at their previous Estadi de Sarria base.
2025/26:
Cup Schemes x 3:
sign up by 27th Sign-ups
remain open for the three stand-alone home cup schemes available, allowing
season ticket holders to guarantee entry to Champions League, FA Cup and
Carabao Cup fixtures at Gallowgate this coming season.
Enrolment must be complete by Friday week, June 27th at 5pm. That is
a hard deadline with no exceptions.
Anyone struggling to opt in can contact NUFC via 0344
372 1892 from 10am until 5pm every weekday, but the ticket office in
the Milburn Stand will only be open for personal callers this coming Wednesday
from 10am to 5pm.
For anyone who doesn't sign up, there's no guarantee of any seat for a home
tie in that competition and their sales window will open alongside that of
club members.
Pricing for the two domestic cup competitions is unchanged from 2024/25 at
£35 & £30 for home FA Cup ties and £25 & £20 for Carabao Cup
games at SJP.
FA Cup and Carabao Cup payments will be taken within seven days of a home
game being confirmed.
Champions League tickets cost £70 & £60, increasing from our last
entrance in 2023/24 when they were £60 & £55.
Regardless of when United's Champions League home games are staged, payments
will be taken for those tickets on the 1st day of July, August, September
and October.

2025/26:
Villa (a) Newcastle
will begin their 2025/26 season against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday
August 16th, with kick-off confirmed as 12.30pm for live UK TV
(TNT Sports).
The first Tyne-wear derby league fixtures since 2015/16 take United to the
dark place on or around December 13th, with the return at SJP on or around
March 21st - a game that would be rescheduled should Eddie Howe's side make it
to Wembley to defend the Carabao Cup.
The festive season will be played away from Tyneside, with successive trips
to Manchester United and Burnley - note that the only "blackout"
day announced by the PL is December 24th, meaning that fixtures are liable
to be rescheduled to both December 26th and January 1st.
There's a Wednesday night London game
against Spurs in February, but a further trio of midweek home fixtures.
Two Saturday home games are set to be pushed back to Sundays as a result of
European scheduling: the visit of Nottingham Forest to SJP in October moving
to Sunday 5th assuming that the visitors have progressed through their
Conference playoff and are in action on Thursday 2nd.
Similarly, the home game against Aston Villa in January should move to
Sunday 25th as the Villans will be in Europa League action the previous
Thursday.
There's no clash with PL games on any FA Cup round weekend until the
semi-finals, with the Quarter Finals on or around Saturday April 4th, which
is the Easter weekend.
That follows an international break, meaning that there's a guaranteed 19
day period with no PL games as it stands.
The final home game against West Ham is scheduled
on Sunday May 17th along with the rest of the PL games that weekend.
Saturday May 16th is clear for the FA Cup Final.
The closing game of the season then takes the Magpies to Fulham on Sunday
May 24th, Craven Cottage also the venue for our 38th and final PL game in
2019 and 2021.
United's visit to Everton is scheduled for the final weekend of November, with
the Hill Dickinson Stadium the 61st venue to have staged a
PL fixture involving the Magpies.
This will be the first time since 2020/21 that Newcastle have begun and
ended a season away from home.

Carroll is returning to England in order to be closer to his
children.
Also heading for pastures new is Steven Taylor, who is
standing down as Coach of UAE-based Al Qabila despite leading the
club to promotion last season.

and Luke Craggs, who are all 18 or reach that age imminently.

Update:
Coach departure
Newcastle confirmed on Monday that U21 lead coach Diarmuid O’Carroll
had left Gallowgate in order to join the senior team coaching staff at
Czechs Sparta Prague.
O'Carroll moved from his post as St. Mirren assistant manager in September
2024 to join the Magpies, combining that role with coaching the Northern
Ireland national team.
The U21 lead coach role became vacant in July 2024 when Ben Dawson left to
join Leicester City, Neil Winskill and Jack Ross taking interim charge until
O'Carroll's appointment.

Born Or Died:
1960
Death of Bill Bradley, 69.
Goalkeeper who starred in
Newcastle's
1924 FA Cup Final victory over
Aston Villa, Bill
died suddenly - collapsing in the tobacconists that he ran next to North Shields
railway station.
1965
Neil Redfearn born, Dewsbury.
(coach 2018,2019)

Having had a brief and low-key
spell as Assistant U23 Coach in 2018, Redfearn returned to the club ahead of
the 2019/20 season to take charge of the U23s.
Instead of joining his players at a Spanish training camp however, the
departure of Rafa Benitez saw him drafted in with Ben Dawson to oversee the
first team pre-season.
As a player, the midfielder had enjoyed a career in excess of 25 years since
joining Nottingham Forest as a youngster and making a senior bow for Bolton
Wanderers.
Spells at Lincoln City, Doncaster Rovers, Crystal Palace, Watford, Oldham
Athletic, Barnsley, Charlton Athletic, Bradford City, Wigan Athletic, Halifax
Town, Boston United and Rochdale then left him with almost 800 competitive
senior appearances.
A player/manager role at Scarborough then followed before a brief tour of
Northern non-league sides concluded at Salford City during 2008.
Having first taken charge of Halifax Town in a caretaker role in 2001, Redfearn
managed Scarborough, Northwich Victoria and York City before joining Leeds
United as a youth team coach in 2008.
That Elland Road association then saw him serve as caretaker boss in 2012,2013
and 2014 before eventually being given the post full time after the third
stint.
Within a year though Neil had been axed, reappearing at Rotherham United before
moving into women's football as head coach of Doncaster Rovers Belles and
latterly
Liverpool Women - although he resigned after just one competitive
fixture.
That pattern continued when he left Newcastle in November 2019
after just a handful of games in charge of the U23s.
A return to coaching in the womens' game came at Sheffield United in 2020
- leaving in late 2022 following a poor run of results.
Redfearn returned to Oldham briefly in September 2023 before taking on a coaching role
at Bradford City
Early 2025 saw Neil was appointed as Farsley Celtic manager but again that only lasted
four matches before he resigned.
1987
Death of Andy Donaldson, 62.
A talented striker who was forced to leave
the area to further his career following the emergence of Jackie Milburn.

What Else?
1924
The club's Annual General Meeting took place amid
unrest from shareholders regarding the accounts presented.
Despite winning the FA Cup, the negative effect on gate
receipts as a result of rescheduling league games to
midweek was given as one factor.
It was also claimed that the FA were mulling over a
proposal to switch cup ties to midweek after the First
Round (now Third Round) rather than move league fixtures -
something that would be adopted almost a century
later.
1975
Following the departure of Gordon Lee to Newcastle,
Blackburn Rovers turned to Colchester United boss Jim
Smith as their replacement manager.
1990
Newcastle skipper Roy Aitken led Scotland out of the
World Cup, going down by a single goal to Brazil on a damp
night at the Stadio Delle Alpi in Turin.
This was to be Aitken's 56th full cap for Scotland -
six of which came while he was on our books.
He did make one further appearance the following year
in a European Championship qualifier against Romania - by
which time he had moved on to St. Mirren.
1998
Future United flop Silvio Maric made his debut in the
World Cup Finals as a second half substitute against Japan
in Nantes.
Croatia won 1-0 and Maric did enough in his 23
minutes of action to earn a starting place in the next
group game, against Argentina.
1998 Out-of-contract Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop was widely
linked with a move to West Ham - a move that subsequently
went through.
1999 Speculation
in Spain that United had reached agreement with Real
Mallorca to buy their central defender Elena Sierra
Marcelino for a fee of £5m. This followed the acquisition
the previous week of another centreback, Alain Goma from
PSG.
2000 Alan Shearer equalised for England with penalty against Romania
before Michael Owen made it
2-1 just on the stroke of half-time in Charleroi. But it
was 2-2 shortly after the interval and a late penalty saw
England's Euro 2000 dreams go out the window.
2001 The Football
Association announced that following the withdrawal of
Spanish side Malaga from the Intertoto Cup, Newcastle
United had accepted an invitation to join the competition at the
third round stage.
2002 News broke that Newcastle were close to
completing the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Hugo
Viana in an £8.5m deal.
2006 The
re-united pairing of Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen
lasted just a matter of seconds for England, before the
Newcastle man was forced to crawl from the field with an
injury in Cologne against Sweden.
Owen fell awkwardly when
hitting a pass and badly twisted his right knee, departing
on a stretcher to be replaced by Peter Crouch.

England drew 2-2 with Sweden and won Group B but for a lot
of us the World Cup was finished after Owen's horrendous
injury.
2007 Magpies
pair James Milner and Steven Taylor were in the England
U21 side beaten by the Dutch in an epic European U21
Championship semi-final.
Stuart Pearce's men eventually bowed out 13-12 in a penalty shootout after the
tie ended 1-1.
Milner (who would have missed the final through
suspension) netted twice from the spot, while Taylor
(struggling badly with injury) limped forward to convert
one.
2010 Spanish Primera Liga side Deportivo La Coruna announced that they
would host Newcastle United in pre-season, contesting the annual Trofeo Teresa
Herrara.
2014
Moussa Sissoko scored as France beat
the Swiss 5-2 in Salvador, becoming the sixth serving Magpie to net in a World
Cup Final tournament:
George Robledo Chile v USA 1950
Ivor Broadis England v Belgium 1954 (2)
Peter Beardsley England v Paraguay 1986
Alan Shearer England v Tunisia 1998
Alan Shearer England v Argentina 1998

Along with old boy Yohan Cabaye, Sissoko and Mathieu Debuchy played the full game
as France reached the knockout stage.
2020 On-loan duo Freddy Woodman (Swansea City)
and Jacob Murphy (Sheffield Wednesday) were both in
action as the Championship restarted following a 15
week delay due to the COVID pandemic.
2021
Euro final action saw Switzerland beat Turkey 3-1
in Baku, with Fabian Schar left
unused
on the bench.
That left the Swiss in third and relying on results in other
groups to dictate whether they made it to the last 16 of Euro 2020 as one of the best
four sides.
2023
Two current Magpies were in the same Brazil side for the
first time ever, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in
the starting line-up for a 2-4 friendly loss to Senegal in Lisbon.
2024
Kieran
Trippier played the full game as England drew 1-1
with Denmark in the Euro 2024 finals.
Anthony Gordon
remained on the bench in Frankfurt as England scraped a point with a rotten
performance
in Group C.
