Update:
Transfer breakthrough now
predicted

Thursday night brought
reports that an increased bid from Newcastle United for Anthony
Elanga was set to be accepted by his current club Nottingham Forest.
Having failed with a £45m offer recently for the 23 year-old Swedish
international winger, it's now claimed that a revised figure in the region
of £55m has been more successful.
An international colleague of Alexander Isak, Elanga was pictured in the
company of William Osula earlier this week, complete with social media
comments suggesting that a move to Gallowgate could be in the offing.
Auction:
Al, Dan, Gary, etc.

Amongst the lots up for grabs in a charity auction
ending soon are a quartet of NUFC-themed items, including the above signed
and framed Dan Burn Wembley print.
Also offered are a signed Alan Shearer shirt, a football autographed
by Magpies including Gary Speed and a print of Joe Harvey and Winston
Churchill with the FA Cup.
The auction is raising funds for ifucareshare - a locally based
charity supporting families affected by suicide.
View
the auction here. Bids until 7.30pm on Friday.

2025/26:
Fur coat, no
signings
Newcastle United's
new third kit was released on Tuesday morning, a promotional
video premiering on Monday night but then taken offline within 24 hours.
That was prompted by a Japanese fan in the video displaying a flag deemed to be
disrespectful to Korean nationals - a country Newcastle visit
later this month....
A re-cut version of the video appeared later on Tuesday.
The 2025/26 third and home kits are available here
Following on from the rail-themed kit launch last
season, the new promo includes current senior players and fans, plus SJP old
boys Jonas Gutierrez and Tino Asprilla - the latter clad in a fur coat as he
was back in 1996.
That bloke from North Shields who just did three nights at SJP appears as
well. If NUFC signed him could they not sell his back catalogue to Greggs in
a PSR-busting deal?

The latest addition to the
range of Toon-themed bucket hats by Football Bobbles is this
Lee model, inspired by United's distinctive 1997/98 change kit and with a
nod to next season's third shirt.
These are available to purchase here
now and there's a special offer for NUFC.com readers of a half-price
Kelly bucket hat with orders of the Lee bucket only.
To take advantage of that, add a Lee bucket hat to the online shopping
basket and use promo code NUFC.com - that will prompt a Kelly hat to
add at checkout.
We had a Lee bucket hat up for grabs, asking you to identify the ex-Magpie
who was a Wembley scorer for his previous club, an England U21 midfielder, a scoring debutant for Newcastle in
1997 and subsequently loaned to Sheffield United.
It was of course Des Hamilton, which most folks knew - although
Tartan pair Paul Dalglish and Stephen Glass both inexplicably cropped up
among those suggested.
The winning entry came from Ann Richardson.

2025/26:
Familiar foes for U21s
Newcastle
U21s will again play in the EFL Trophy this season - taking
their place in the 64 club competition for a ninth successive season.
Thursday's Group Stage draw placed the Magpies second string in Northern Section
Group F, alongside Harrogate Town, Huddersfield Town and Mansfield Town.
Newcastle will play each of those sides away from home, having travelled to
Harrogate in 2021 and Mansfield in both 2021 and 2024. They've not
previously faced Huddersfield in this competition.
Sky Sports will televise all the ties, with round dates tbc.
Games are played over 90 minutes, with a penalty shootout staged if the
scores are tied then and the winners of that receiving a bonus point.
The Magpies were successful last season in a shootout against Bradford City,
but haven't claimed maximum points in this competition since back in 2018.
NUFC confirm that the U21s will enter the Premier League
International Cup for the first time since 2019/20 - pitting them
against European sides. Games are all in the UK.
And the Magpies second string will also take part in the National League Cup
once again, having participated in last season's maiden staging of the
competition.
Draw dates for those two competitions are still tbc.
2025/26:
Espanyol (h) now on sale
Tickets for Newcastle's pre-season friendly fixture at St.
James' Park against Espanyol are now on public sale, priced at £25 and £20 for
adults.
The Magpies face the Spaniards in a 7.30pm kick-off on Friday August 8th
- the night before the sold-out visit of fellow La Liga side Atletico
Madrid to Gallowgate.
This will be the fourth successive season that Eddie Howe's side
have concluded their pre-season preparations with back to back home kickabouts,
splitting the squad across both games and giving pitch time to U21 squad
players.

1988
James Troisi born Adelaide, Australia.
(2005-08)

Arriving as a youngster from Australia with his family in tow,
attacking midfielder James soon graduated from the Academy side to the second
string under Tommy Craig.
Netting a first reserve goal against Liverpool in October 2006, within a month
James was named by Glenn Roeder on the substitutes bench for United's UEFA Cup
tie in Palermo.
Unlike fellow rookies Andy Carroll and Tim Krul however, Troisi saw no pitch
time that night in Sicily and would never get closer to a competitive senior
debut for United.
A first senior outing did arrive at Hartlepool United in pre-season and James
ended up featuring in five of the six warm-up games ahead of the 2007/08
campaign.
Overlooked after that by Sam Allardyce, a trial at Dutch side JC Roda followed
before incoming boss Kevin Keegan named Troisi on the bench at home to Bolton
Wanderers in January 2008.
A free agent that summer, James signed a three-year deal with Turkish side
Genclerbirligi, moving on to fellow Turks Kayserispor and then to Italians
Juventus in 2012.
That latter deal saw his registration shared to fellow Serie A side Atalanta
and he was loaned out to them before a temporary posting to Melbourne Victory
in 2013.
Juventus then bought out the remaining 50% of Troisi's contract from Atalanta
but he was loaned out to Belgians Zulte Waragem.
By 2015 he was a free agent and joined Saudi Arabians Al-Ittihad; later moves
taking him to Liaoning Whowin (China), Melbourne Victory again, Adelaide
United, Western Sydney
Wanderers and Western United.
Internationally, James played for Australia at youth and U23 level
before winning his first senior cap in March 2008 against Singapore -
just ahead of his release by Newcastle.
Appearing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he remained in and around the
national side until 2018, when named in the preliminary 26-man squad for the
2018 World Cup but omitted from the 23 that travelled to Russia.
His final tally was 37 caps and five goals.

What Else?
1995 Then-boss
of Turkish side Galatasary, Graeme Souness concluded a £2.35m deal with Aston
Villa for striker Dean Saunders.
Ten years later, the pair were briefly reunited at SJP when Saunders joined
the Newcastle coaching staff.
1998 More penalty shootout drama, with France wisely having already
substituted new Magpies signing Stephane Guivarc'h before extra time in the
Stade de France.
Victory over Italy saw the home nation progress into the World Cup semi-finals.
1999 Newcastle midfielder
Dietmar Hamann still hadn't found a new club but a return to SJP seemed
impossible, after comments made in the media.
Meanwhile, Nobby Solano's Peru
beat Bolivia to progress in the Copa America. Sub Zunica came on, promptly
scored but was sent off in an eventful five minutes.
2006 Michael
Owen travelled to the Colorado clinic of renowned knee specialist Doctor Richard
Steadman ahead of surgery.
And the player himself played down talk that he was in need of attention to both
his anterior cruciate and medial ligaments:
"We've had all the scans done over
here, basically we're thinking from what the scans say that it's a cruciate.
"It's a rupture, you
can't see the cruciate on the scan so it's obviously floating about somewhere in
the knee, but apart from that there is minimal damage.
"There is nothing
else that needs operating on, so that is a big bonus. Not so much of a bonus in
terms of time limits, but just in coming back where you have just one injury to
come back from and not plenty of things going on in your knee."
2007 United began pre-season with a week in residence at the Balance Resort, near Stegersbach in
Austria.
The trip was for fitness and team-building only, with no friendly games
scheduled.
2009 In a move that amazed everyone in football - including the player
himself - Manchester United signed Michael Owen after his Newcastle contract
expired.
2009 BBC Radio Newcastle reported that MD Derek Llambias had shown
representatives of a Malaysian bidder round the club and a number of players met
the delegation as they toured the training facilities at Darsley Park.
Subsequent claims emerged that it was billionaire businessman Ananda Krishnan
but the staff of a local restaurant seemed more likely, as United's hierarchy
made a desperate attempt to flush out bidders....
2016 A 5-2 win over Iceland in Paris put hosts France into the last
four of Euro 2016. Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko played the full game, collecting
his 42nd cap.
2019
Newcastle moved closer to selling Ayoze Perez to Leicester City, after the Foxes
met his release clause and were given permission to speak with the player.
The Spaniard was under contract until 2021 with a £30m transfer fee claimed.
2023 The Magpies confirmed the signing of midfielder Sandro Tonali
from AC Milan for a claimed £60m fee - a joint club record with Alexander Isak.
2024
In the Copa America,
a 1-1 draw with Colombia in Santa Clara saw Bruno
Guimaraes complete 86 minutes for Brazil, leaving them undefeated in their three group games
and progressing to a quarter final tie against Uruguay.
A rather different story for Miggy Almiron; playing the opening 45
minutes of a 1-2 defeat to Costa Rica in Austin, a third successive defeat left Paraguay bottom of the group, pointless and
eliminated from the tournament.
