£52m, the 23 year-old flew into Newcastle from

international Elanga is set to sign a five year contract and join pre-season training at Darsley
Park after completing the formalities of his medical.
What is described as a significant sell-on fee will become due to Elanga's
previous club, Manchester United.
The Mail state that delays in completing the deal had arisen from a
recent change of representation by Elanga.

Update:
Longstaff: Elland
Road exit predicted
The anticipated departure
of Sean Longstaff from SJP drew nearer on Monday with news of a
further bid for the midfielder from Premier League newcomers Leeds
United.
An improved offer of £12m for the 27 year-old looks set to end his stay on
Tyneside, with personal terms now said to be agreed.
Longstaff is now into the final 12 months of his contract, having made 214
league and cup appearances since 2018, scoring 16 times.
25 Premier League outings last season included just eight starts, the last
of which came at Brentford in December.
Latest:
Wilson: 49 and out
Statement from Callum
Wilson, Monday:
To all Magpies
It's time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years in the Toon.
Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and
some lows to help the club experience new heights.
I am so proud to have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and to have added a
little more history to it. Scoring at the Gallowgate End really is as
special as they say.
All good things come to an end but there's no doubt Newcastle United will
always have a place in mine and my family's hearts.
Thank you for the memories.
CW9
Wilson leaves with 49 goals to his name for the Magpies - 47 of which came
in the Premier League, a total bettered only by Alexander Isak and Alan
Shearer.
He made 130 appearances in all competitions,
including 81 starts, United playing a total of 229 matches during his five
years as a Magpie.
Talk of a pay-as-you-play deal to remain at Gallowgate following the
expiration of his contract mercifully came to nothing, leaving
the 33 year-old to leave with his head held high - and his reputation
undiluted.
2025/26:
TV changes awaited
Having announced the UK live TV schedule for the
opening weekend on fixture release day, Wednesday (9th) marks the first of
this season' Premier League "estimated release" dates for further
goggle box alterations.
In theory, that announcement will confirm when the following five Newcastle
PL games will be played:
Sat 23.08.2025 tbc Liverpool (H)
Sat 30.08.2025 tbc Leeds United (A)
Sat 13.09.2025 tbc Wolves (H)
Sat 20.09.2025 tbc Bournemouth (A)
Sat 27.09.2025 tbc Arsenal (H)
In order to accommodate European competition dates, some or all of the
Wolves, Bournemouth and Arsenal games may only be provisionally scheduled -
with confirmation delayed until after UEFA's club fixture list is set in
late August.
2025/26:
Austrian return

Following a successful
visit back in July 2022, Eddie Howe and his squad will return to Austria
later this month for a pre-season training camp.
Their destination for a five day stay is the Tyrol village of Seefeld,
previously used by Manchester City and Liverpool and currently hosting Turks
Istanbul Basaksehir.
Confirming Newcastle's visit, Austrian-based websites make no mention of
them playing any matches during their visit.
This will be the third time that United have included Austria in their
schedule, Sam Allardyce leading a training camp in 2007 at Stegersbach (no
matches) and Howe overseeing a stint at Saalfelden three years ago (two
matches).
United have announced six public friendlies, with a training ground
kickabout predicted before heading to Austria:

Sun 27.07.2025 Arsenal (n) in Singapore
Wed 30.07.2025 Team K League (South Korea) (a)

Update:
Teen trio: one in
Sky Sports
report that Newcastle have completed a move for Alfie Hutchinson from
Rangers, the first of three signings set to boost the club's Academy squad.
The 16 year-old right-sided attacker was spotted on Tyneside earlier in the
week and official confirmation of his arrival is now expected in the
coming days.
Also tipped for a switch from Ibrox to Gallowgate is fellow 16 year-old
Scottish youth international Oliver Goodbrand,
whose favoured position is at left full back.
Updates are also awaited on United's proposed acquisition of Isaac Moran,
following news that the England youth international had rejected a contract
offer from current club Liverpool. The central midfielder is also 16.

The latest addition to the
range of Toon-themed bucket hats by Football Bobbles is this
Lee model, inspired by United's distinctive 1997/98 change kit and with a
nod to next season's third shirt.
These are available to purchase here
now and there's a special offer for NUFC.com readers of a half-price
Kelly bucket hat with orders of the Lee bucket only.
To take advantage of that, add a Lee bucket hat to the online shopping
basket and use promo code NUFC.com - that will prompt a Kelly hat to
add at checkout.
We had a Lee bucket hat up for grabs, asking you to identify the ex-Magpie
who was a Wembley scorer for his previous club, an England U21 midfielder, a scoring debutant for Newcastle in
1997 and subsequently loaned to Sheffield United.
It was of course Des Hamilton, which most folks knew - although
Tartan pair Paul Dalglish and Stephen Glass both inexplicably cropped up
among those suggested.
The winning entry came from Ann Richardson.

On This Day in History |

8th July |
|
Born Or Died:
1959 Imre Varadi born, Paddington, London. (1981-83)

Of Hungarian
parentage, Ray's career began at non-league Letchworth Town before joining
Sheffield United in April 1978.
Within a year he'd moved on to Everton, but failed to establish himself
in the Toffees first team until notching the winner in an FA Cup against
Liverpool January 1981 made him something of a cult figure at Goodison.
Made available for transfer that summer, Varadi signed for Newcastle in a £125K
deal following an unsuccessful trial with Benfica.
A never-say-die attitude instantly endeared him to Newcastle fans who had
endured the likes of Bobby Shinton and Mick Harford since talismanic centre
forward Peter Withe had departed for Aston Villa in 1980.
Breaking his scoring duck after eight games when grabbing a hat trick in a 4-0
win at Cardiff, Varadi was later paired with mackem loan signing Alan Brown to
good effect.
And although no permanent deal for Brown was concluded with the mackems,
Varadi continued to supply goals in an average side that season - scoring 20
in all competitions.
He was to better that total by two in the following season, by which time
Kevin Keegan had arrived at Gallowgate. A late season run of scoring almost
saw United gatecrash the promotion party - with Varadi grabbing 11 goals in
his last ten outings.
A move to Sheffield Wednesday on the eve of the 1983/84 season caused
consternation for a time on Tyneside, but the arrival of Peter Beardsley from
Vancouver soon smoothed things over.
Varadi was paired with future Magpie Tony Cunningham to good effect for the
Owls, both scoring in a 4-2 win over United at Hillsborough - Varadi
preserving his good reputation by avoiding a goal celebration in front of the large
travelling contingent.
Later moves saw him represent West Bromwich Albion,
Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday again, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday
yet again, Luton Town (loan), Oxford United (loan), Rotherham United,
Mansfield Town, Boston United and Scunthorpe United.
Moving into non-league circles, Varadi was installed as Matlock Town player
boss, also serving Guiseley, Stalybridge Celtic and Denaby United.
He later worked as a player's agent and a Press Association match
reporter.

What Else?
1927 Reg Keating completed a move from
Newcastle to Lincoln City, having failed to play a senior competitive game
during his year on the books at Gallowgate.
Reg was the younger brother of former Magpie Bert, who had made 12 first
team appearances between 1922 and 1925.
1980 United signed Ray Clarke from Brighton and Hove Albion for £180,000.
Forced into retirement by a knee problem within a year of arriving, centre
forward Clarke
returned to Tyneside during 2005 as European scout for Graeme Souness and was
involved in the acquisition of goalkeeper Tim Krul.
1993 Nearly a double transfer swoop by
Kevin Keegan; firstly he frightened John Hall into agreeing to pay Everton £1.5m
for Peter Beardsley after inventing a fake mackem bid and then flew to Heathrow
to meet Soviet Striker Sergei Yuran and his battalion of advisors.
After hearing the outrageous wage demands Keegan chose not to do business, being
proved right when Yuran later appeared for Millwall, looking overweight and
ineffective in a lower league team.
1994 Full back Mark Robinson joined
Swindon Town for £600k, having failed to secure a first team spot after
recovering from an injury inflicted on him by Ian McGuckin during a pre-season
visit to Hartlepool United.
He went on to play over 300 games at the County Ground before being released in
May 2002. Robbo then briefly joined non-league Chippenham Town before retiring.
2002 The
Sunday Sun claimed that Peruvian midfielder Martin Hidalgo, who spent some
time training with Newcastle, was on Tyneside finalising a five-year move to
United. If he was on Tyneside he never finalised any deal.
2003 It was
confirmed that United's Olivier Bernard would not face any criminal charges
following allegations linking him to a reported rape incident in the
city.
However, the club were still facing negative headlines; Craig Bellamy, Lee Bowyer and
Jonathan Woodgate all still embroiled in other legal procedures. 2004 West Bromwich
Albion attempted to hijack Portsmouth's bid for Lomana LuaLua but the DR Congo
international made his loan switch to Fratton Park permanent for £1.75m.
2005
Newcastle midfielder Darren Ambrose became a Charlton Athletic player after an
undisclosed fee was agreed.
Ambrose's Addicks debut would come at the Stadium of Plight on the opening day of the season. Ambrose
wouldn't last the full 90 minutes - being red-carded in the 55th minute,
although Charlton won 3-1.
2007 Marc Viduka
captained Australia as they salvaged a 1-1 draw against minnows Oman an Asia Cup
game in Bangkok.
2008 Despite
constant speculation about the future of James Milner with links to Aston Villa and Liverpool, Kevin Keegan assured the player he had a big
future at the club.
That big future turned
out to be less than two months....
2013 Dan Gosling seemed certain to be on the move to Premier League new
boys, Crystal Palace, for around £1m.
However, the move broke down in farcical circumstances when the player arrived
in South London but wasn't met by anyone.
Gosling later joined Blackpool on loan before returning to United for a run in
the first team during the closing months of the season.
2016 Newcastle's fourth summer signing was
confirmed, Atletico Madrid full back Jesús Gámez signing on a two year deal.
