2025/26:
Arsenal (n)

The next instalment of Newcastle's pre-season programme sees them fellow Premier League side Arsenal
in Singapore on Sunday (12.30pm BST,
7.30pm local).
Regardless of the score
after 90 minutes, the game will be followed by a penalty shootout.
This game will
be shown live free of
charge at
WonderBar in The Gate,
as will the two games in Korea next week.
Match venue is the 55,000 capacity Singapore National
Stadium, built on the site
of the former National Stadium that was visited by United back in August
1996.
Kevin Keegan's Magpies defeated an S-League Select XI 5-0 that day with new
signing Alan Shearer in attendance but not involved in the game.
The Gunners defeated AC Milan 1-0 in that stadium on Wednesday in 28 degree
heat; Mikel Arteta giving pitch time to no less than 22
players. AC Milan then triumphed 6-5 in their post-match shootout.
Both games are marketed as the "Singapore Festival of Football"
although it's not a tournament; AC Milan play just once before moving on to
face Liverpool in Hong Kong.
United meanwhile decamp to Korea for games against a
local XI and fellow Premier League side Spurs, billed as the Coupang Play Series
but again consisting of two games only.
Spurs then move on to Hong Kong to face Arsenal.

Elanga, Gordon, Neave, Al.Harrison, Munda, Hernes.
New arrival Seung-Soo Park has now joined the squad.
AFC: The Gunners travelled with a 30 man squad including SJP old boy
Mikel Merino and recent signings Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin
Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.
They've since added defender Cristhian Mosquera after completing his
transfer from Valencia.
15 year-old duo Max Dowman and Marli Salmon are also in the party and
debuted from the bench against AC Milan.
That 30 man squad could become 31 if a proposed deal for Sporting Lisbson
forward Viktor Gyokeres is concluded.

Newcastle commentary will be available via the NUFC website and app (logon
required but accounts are free - paid membership not required).
Stats: By our
reckoning, this will be the seventh different venue that these two clubs
have faced each other in - and the first outside England.
In addition to the four home stadia (St.James' Park, the Manor Ground,
Highbury and the Emirates), the sides have met in FA Cup Finals at Wembley
and in that competition at the neutral venue of Stoke's Victoria Ground.
The Magpies and the Gunners last played friendlies in 1900/01; drawing 1-1 in London on Boxing Day before Newcastle triumphed 5-1
on Tyneside on New Years Day.

Sunday's UEFA Women's Euro Final between England
and Spain will be shown at the following city centre bars.

Kick-off is at 5pm.

Striker search
Aside from the failed attempts to capture Liam
Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, Newcastle have been credited
with interest in the following forwards recently:
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (unattached). Rumoured interest from AC Milan
but excessive wage demands claimed.
Evann Guessand (Nice) Guessand was named on the bench for a 2-1
friendly victory over Feyenoord in Austria on Saturday but doesn't look to
have featured.
The 24 year-old Ivory Coast international is the subject of claimed interest
both West Ham and Crystal Palace, with Brentford now linked as possible
Wissa replacement.
Jorgen Strand Larsen (Wolves) The 25 year-old Norwegian international
played just over an hour of a 1-1 kickabout away to Stoke City on Saturday.
Kolo Muani (PSG) Yet to commence pre-season training following World
Cup Cup involvement.
Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)
Due to return to training imminently after holiday
following Club World Cup Final on July 13th.
Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig)
25 year-old Belgian international Openda played the first 45 minutes of
Saturday's 7-0 victory over FC Toulouse, scoring twice. Sesko appeared for
the second half of the kickabout, part of Leipzig's training camp in the Black Forest.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) In the Villa squad due to face Eintracht
Frankfurt in Louisville, USA on Saturday night.
Yoane Wissa (Brentford) Returned from pre-season training in
Portugal, one NUFC bid was rejected, no confirmation of further bids and
claims that the player is in dispute with the Bees after reneging on a
previous promise to let him leave.
Rumoured interest from Spurs, Forest and Saudi side Neom in recent days.
Update:
Howe comments
The Newcastle boss faced the media in Singapore and
inevitably fielded questions about Alexander Isak:
"With his injury, I've got no major update
on that. He first mentioned his thigh just before the Celtic game and we
assumed it would a be very minimal injury, nothing too serious.
"Then on the Monday after the Celtic game,
he went in from training very early, didn't feel right, so he's now in
Newcastle getting that injury assessed. Hopefully he'll be back soon playing
in the black and white shirt. That's what we all want to see.
"Of course there's things going on behind
the scenes. He will be aware he's in the news every day, and I'm sure that's
not easy for anyone in that situation.
"Conversations that happen between Alex and
the club or Alex and myself will stay private for obvious reasons. We do
share a really good relationship with him.
"He's been magnificent for us since he's joined. He's very popular in
the dressing room and we'd love him to continue his journey at Newcastle,
although, whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle.
"I said after the Celtic game I certainly hope he stays and I said I
was confident he would stay.
"I don't see anything that will change that
opinion of mine at the moment - but it's football and who knows what the
future may bring?
"As far as I'm aware, I don't think there are any (Isak)
contract talks taking place at the moment: that'll be for a later date
potentially. I think for now, with the situation as it is and the state of
the window, in the sense that it's hurtling towards the end of the window
very quickly, from our perspective there's still so much that could happen.
"I wouldn't put a timescale on it. I think with these situations it has
to be right for the football club and everything is then taken into context
below that.
"A whole football club has to make the decision (to sell Isak). The
ownership, together with the board of directors especially with the money
involved in modern transfers. The manager has an opinion but ultimately the
decision will rest with the board."
"All I would say on the broader picture is
whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle. We're in a very strong
position financially, we're determined to be successful, we are ambitious,
we've got a great season ahead of us.
"We need to add to the squad and continue to improve, and the journey
can continue on an upwards trajectory. I think that's what we all want so
that's what we're battling to try and achieve.
"We have multiple players we are looking at in multiple positions but
it's a challenge because prices are going up. We need to bring players in,
we need to do business. We need the options and the (squad) depth as
we found out two years ago with Champions League football.
"I hope we can bring in players and players that can make a difference
before the window shuts. We will not stop until the window shuts (on
September 1st).
"It's not about numbers, it's about quality. We have identified the
positions, now can we find the quality that makes our team better?"
Update:
You what?
A remarkable claim made by The Guardian on
Friday:
Alexander Isak has been offered a staggering £600,000-a-week
tax-free deal by Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia with further lucrative bonuses
on top. The Newcastle striker is open to leaving St James’ Park and
Liverpool, who are long-term admirers, are keeping an eye on the situation.
Isak has not travelled to Asia with his Newcastle
teammates for the club’s pre-season tour, officially because of a minor
muscle injury, and is assessing his options. They include Al-Hilal, who
reached the Club World Cup quarter-finals, losing to Fluminense, and want to
make a grand statement by signing Isak – one of the most coveted players
on the market.
Al-Hilal, who are managed by Simone Inzaghi, are
prepared to sweeten the package for the striker with bonuses if he were to
win the league and/or the Asian Champions League and top the scoring charts.
Isak has been unsettled by the transfer talk and
he did not play for Newcastle in the friendly at Celtic last Saturday. The
club have no desire to sell him and the fans would surely take the dimmest
of views of their Saudi owners if they were to let him go to Al-Hilal. Like
Newcastle, Al-Hilal are owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
It's tempting to believe that this is some PSR-evading wheeze, but that's
seemingly at odds with the messages coming from Darsley Park and beyond.
2025/26:
Tigers tie
Newcastle U21s 1
Hull City U21s 1
Newcastle U21s were
in home friendly action on Saturday, playing out a draw with their
Humberside counterparts.
It's reported that Garang Kuol netted for the hosts, with teenage defender Harry Revill on target
for the Tigers.
Line-ups to follow
The U21s return to action on Sunday week when they make the short
trip over the Tyne to South Shields for a 3pm kick-off at the First
Cloud Arena.
Update:
Trafford hopes dashed
Writing in The Athletic, the usually-reliable
David Ornstein confirmed on Friday that Manchester City had reached
agreement to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
The 22 year-old Cumbrian left the Citizens for Turf Moor two years ago, with
a buy back proviso inserted in the contract in addition to a sell-on clause.
The England international custodian had been coveted by Newcastle for over a
year, amid claims that he'd verbally agreed to become a Magpie in June 2024.
However a failure to seal a deal that had looked inevitable leaves Eddie
Howe's side empty-handed once again.
Update:
Isak: inevitable update
Latest: The Times claim that a contract
extension and substantial increase on his wages was recently offered to Alexander
Isak by Newcastle but rejected.
The Magpies were reportedly prepared to pay £200K a week but the player is
said to be holding out for nearer £300K.
Earlier: Following confirmation of Alexander's Isak absence from the touring
squad, the player has reportedly "told Newcastle he wants to explore
a move away from the club" during the current transfer window.
They stress that no formal transfer request has been made by the 25
year-old, no bids have been received and the player is not for sale
according to his current club.
None of those things matter though; the message is clear. A concerted
campaign from the North West involving briefings to sympathetic media
outlets has succeeded in unsettling the player and encouraged his
representatives.
This latest development will doubtless prompt a backlash against Isak from
disgruntled Newcastle fans, which will then be advanced as a reason for his
inevitable exit.
How much blame can be attached to United is debatable, but a turnover of
director level personalities hardly helps paint a picture of a club with a
coherent strategy.
There's a feeling the project has stalled and the grand
off-field plans of PIF remain unannounced, along with the enforced
inactivity of successive transfer windows.
Ultimately though it comes down to money. The Premier League have ensured
that the Magpies cannot match the salaries offered elsewhere - and cannot
reject any sizeable offer made to them for their prize asset.
Whether the club are capable of reinvesting the anticipated Isak cash to a
level where they remain competitive by improving the squad is the £150m
question.
Meltdown:
Thigh's the limit....
Thursday saw the Newcastle squad fly out for their
Asian tour without Alexander Isak, reportedly due to a thigh problem.
The news comes as a hammer blow to Eddie Howe, who failed to mention any
injury concerns following the player's absence at Celtic on Saturday but
expected that his top scorer would be on the plane to Singapore.
That leaves United with William Osula as their sole senior striker available
for upcoming friendlies against Arsenal, Spurs and a Korean select XI.
The news inevitably provoked a storm of speculation regarding the future of
the Swedish forward, still the subject of strong interest from Liverpool
despite their acquisition of Hugo Ekitike.
In the light of news that Isak refused to accept improved terms to remain at
Gallowgate, it appears that Newcastle attempted to acquire Ekitike as his
replacement, only to be outflanked by the Anield club.
To embark on a promotional tour without the clubs' most high-profile player
does little to enhance our reputation - even if only as a non-playing member
of the party.
Having targeted the global fanbase for their future revenue goals, there's a
certain irony in making a long haul trip to show up our shortcomings
first-hand to those new fans.
Using words like "crisis" about a squad newly-augmented by a
£50m+ signing seems ridiculous, but concerns over the current direction of
the club are pertinent and valid.
Callum Wilson's exit was correct for all concerned but a player with 47
Premier League goals obviously needs replacing - and the prospect of one
with 54 goals to to his name following him down Barrack Road would rightly
raise questions about just who is in control around here.
As ever, in the absence of communication from this club, the vacuum is soon
filled - usually to our detriment.

Park purchase confirmed
The Magpies have announced the signing of 18
year-old Seung-Soo Park from second tier side Suwon Bluewings in his
home country of South Korea for an undisclosed fee.
Predominantly a left-sided winger, the U20 international spent time training
with Bayern Munich last year.
Park was in Glasgow on Saturday to watch his new club in action and will
reportedly link up with the club's U21s. It remains to be seen whether he joins fellow new recruit Antonio Cordero in
spending next season out on loan.
Interviewed by NUFC TV, Park suggested that he'll return to Korea next
Wednesday when Eddie Howe's side face a K League Select XI at his former home in Suwon.
He's the second Korean to sign for the Magpies, following midfielder Ki
Sung Yeung, who made 19 senior appearances in all competitions between 2018
and 20202.
2025/26:
TV times
The Premier League have now confirmed their live TV
picks for September, with one Newcastle game rescheduled:
Sat 13.09.2025 Wolves (h) 3pm no live UK TV
Sat 20.09.2025 Bournemouth (a) 3pm no live UK TV
Sun 28.09.2025 Arsenal (h) 4.30pm Sky
The Arsenal game falls between Newcastle's midweek Carabao Cup Third
Round tie* and the second round of Champions League fixtures, spread across
Tuesday September 30th and Wednesday October 1st.
With reference to the Bournemouth away game, just because it hasn't been
selected for live TV, that doesn't confirm 100% that it will be a 3pm
Saturday kick-off.
The first round of Champions League fixtures take place on the preceding
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: were Newcastle to be in action on the
Thursday, that would result in the Bournemouth game moving to the
Sunday.
While the Spurs v Wolves game picked for Sky on Sunday 28th is liable to
change if Spurs are playing a Champions League tie on the 30th, there's no
similar advice regarding our game v Arsenal on the same day - reason
unknown.
The situation mirrors for our game regardless of that: were ourselves or
Arsenal to be playing in the Champions League on the 30th then we would not
meet in the PL on the 28th.
So in real terms, only the Wolves game is now confirmed, with the other
three liable to possible change in the days following the Champions League
draw on August 28th.
* that is split over two successive midweeks, with teams involved in the
Champions League assured of playing their Carabao Cup tie during second of
the two weeks.
There are no scheduled rail works between London Kings Cross on the day of
the Arsenal game. For once.
The Bournemouth game looks unaffected by rail engineering work on
the Saturday. Were it to be played on the Sunday, trains would still run direct
to and from London but with average journey times extended by 45 minutes and
trains not calling at either Basingstoke or Winchester.
Update:
New faces
Following that Sudarshan Gopaladesikan
aka has been appointed as Technical Director by Newcastle, the vacant roles
of Chief Executive Officer and Sporting Director are anticipated to be
filled in the near future.
Several names have appeared in connection with both posts, but David
Hopkinson is poised to become CEO in succession to Darren Eales, with Ross
Wilson tipped to replace the now-departed Paul Mitchell as SD.
The 54 year-old Canadian Hopkinson had been in charge of the US-based
Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation and was Global Head of Partnerships
for Real Madrid between 2018 and 2020.
He also had an earlier involvement with sports teams in Toronto, which
included MLS side Toronto FC.
41 year-old Scotsman Wilson meanwhile remains in post at Nottingham Forest,
having held a similar position at Rangers until tempted across the border in
2023.

Following a succession of coaching roles in

Renumbering
NUFC confirm that Anthony Elanga
has taken squad number 20, worn by Lewis Hall for the last two seasons.
Hall meanwhile moves on to number 3, vacant since Paul Dummett left
the club in 2024.
Making the announcement, the club reminded supporters that all squad numbers
for the new season remain subject to change. The departure of Callum Wilson
left number 9 available and prompted speculation that Alexander Isak could
switch to that from his current number of 14.

Born Or Died:
1928 Edward Oliver
Robledo born, Iquique, Chile. (1949-53)

Two years younger than his
better-known goalscoring brother George, defender Ted joined Newcastle from
Barnsley in a joint deal at a cost of £26,500 in January 1949.
George, Ted and younger brother Walter had come to England in 1932 with their
Yorkshire-born mother Elsie, leaving their Chilean father Aristides in his
homeland.
Ted followed his brother into the Barnsley side in 1947, but had made only five
appearances in their first team when the move to SJP came, George making his
brother's transfer a condition of the move.
Debuting in a 1-0 victory at Aston Villa on the last day of 1949 (with his
brother in the side), Ted replaced Charlie Crowe but didn't appear in the first
team again that season.
Playing only in the Third Round tie during the club's successful FA Cup
campaign of 1950/51, Ted was a more regular performer the following season and
played in the 1-0 Wembley victory over Arsenal.
1953 saw the Robledo brothers return to Chile, both signing for Colo Colo where
they won domestic titles and Ted joined his brother in the Chilean national
team.
A brief return to England in 1957 saw Ted play twice for Notts County, but he
was soon back in Chile and began a new career as an oil rig worker in various
locations including the Persian Gulf.
Ted's life came to a tragic and unexplained end in December 1970, when he was
declared missing at sea after leaving Dubai on a ship named the Al Sahn.
Amid claims of a fight, the ship's captain was charged with murder, but later
acquitted. Ted's body was never found.

1935 Ken Leek born,
Pontypridd, Wales.
(1961)

Welsh international striker who
began his professional career with Northampton Town in 1952, having only played
football for a couple of years as a result of attending rugby-playing schools
as a youngster.
Making an impact on the left wing despite losing two years of his career to
national service, Ken joined Leicester City in a 10K move in April 1958 -
shortly after netting for the Cobblers in an FA Cup win over Arsenal.
Included in the Welsh squad who competed at the World Cup Finals in Sweden that
summer, Ken was converted to a striker at Filbert Street and netted on his
debut.
However he left the Foxes in favour of United in May 1961, shortly after his
omission from City's FA Cup Final side - despite having scored in every round.
Joining just-relegated Newcastle as a replacement for Len White, Ken got off to
a great start with a hat-trick in a 6-0 home friendly success over Danish side
Aarhus.
After just 14 League and League Cup outings though - and with another SJP hat
trick netted, against Brighton - Ken was on his way back to the Midlands.
Failing to settle in the region, Newcastle took a £2K loss in selling him to
Birmingham City for £25K in November 1961.
He was to score almost a goal a game for City and was part of the side who won
the 1963 League Cup Final - a two-legged affair against fierce rivals Aston
Villa.
Leek later rejoined Northampton Town and after a spell with Bradford City was
appointed player/coach of Rhyl in 1968, later serving Merthyr Tydfil and Ton Pentre.
Living in Northampton, Ken worked for the Ford Motor Company in Daventry until
his retirement in 1995. He passed away in November 2007.
A Leek family link to the Magpies was then revived in August 2014 with the
signing of 'keeper Karl Darlow - Ken's grandson.
1991 Jóan Símun Edmundsson
born, Toftir, Faroes. (2010-12)
Attacking midfielder first spotted playing
for United in a training ground reserve friendly against Hibernian in December
2009.
On trial along with fellow Faroe Islander Christian Mouritsen, Jóan got the
nod and a deal was arranged with his club B68 to keep
him on Tyneside until the end of the season.
Training with Manchester City before linking up with
Newcastle, a goalscoring debut for the U18s came in February 2010 against
Derby, with a reserve team bow away at Hartlepool a
month later.
By season's end he'd become a reserve team regular and broke his duck at that
level against Rotherham United in April.
Jóan's first team debut for United came as a substitute in the friendly loss
at Norwich City, two days before his 19th birthday.
However, he failed to progress at SJP and was released
during March 2012, making a
permanent move to Norwegian side Viking Stavanger after a successful trial.
Loaned to Danes Fredericia, later moves took Jóan
to HB Torshavn (Faroes), Vejle
(Denmark), Odense (Denmark),
Arminia Bielefeld (Germany)
and Waasland-Beveren
(Belgium).
2023 saw him in Iceland; two spells at KA Akureyri book-ending a season at KF
Shkupi.
Edmundsson's senior international debut for the Faroes had come as a 17
year-old in August 2008 ahead of his arrival at SJP.
Scoring his first senior goal against Estonia in August 2010 he brought up a
half century of senior caps just over eight years later.
By his 34th birthday that had become 94 caps, two short of the
all-time record.

Goodison Park for a friendly tournament hosted by Everton
and also featuring Chelsea and Ajax.
With a drab game locked at 1-1 and petering out, Alan
Shearer contrived to twist and fall awkwardly and
be stretchered off in obvious agony - a freak injury with
no other player from either side in his vicinity at the
time.
A penalty shootout was needed to achieve a result but Chelsea strolled to a
3-1 success, Peter Beardsley netting but Stuart Pearce, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Tino Asprilla
missing.
Al was later diagnosed as having a broken fibia and
severely damaged ankle ligaments - a massive blow to Kenny
Dalglish's side, which was exacerbated by the parallel
departure of Les Ferdinand to Spurs.
(It later emerged that United attempted to halt that deal,
but the player had verbally agreed to move and refused to
back down).

The Sir Bobby Robson Trophy charity match
staged at SJP saw teams representing the 1990 England
& Germany World Cup sides facing each other.
33,000 were present, while the game was live on ITV4.
This was to be the last public appearance for Sir Bobby,
who looked frail and took to the field in a wheelchair to
meet the teams.
A 79th minute penalty from Alan Shearer decided the
contest after England came from two goals down to triumph
3-2, with Les Ferdinand and Alan Thompson also netting.
The Germans had led through Thomas Helmer (5) and Fredi
Bobic (18), before Ferdinand (2) and Thompson (32)
levelled.
The
first two England goals followed fouls on Shearer as he
went through on goal and Al also won the spot-kick, thanks

Steve Howey, John Beresford, Robert Lee, Peter Beardsley,
