2025/26:
Villa (a) ticket timetable

Monday saw NUFC announce their revised away ticket sales process, with the details reproduced below.

The loyalty point system continues but the process of reducing them incrementally is gone. Our own summary the new system is 24/24/48: 24 hours to apply, 24 hours to find out if successful, 48 hours to complete purchase.

One ST holder can log on and apply on behalf of seven STs listed in their friends and family - in other words, the maximum number of accounts in a transaction is eight.

Specifically for the Aston Villa (a), game immediate action is needed  as follows:

Phase 1: Monday 28th July @ 2pm

Ticket application opens for all season ticket holders to apply for a ticket for this fixture.

Phase 2: Tuesday 29th July @ 2pm

Ticket application window closes. The club will process all submissions, allocating tickets in loyalty point order. We will also ballot a small number of tickets to those who do not meet the loyalty points threshold.

Phase 3: Wednesday 30th July @ 2pm

Supporters who are successful in the application process will now be emailed with a window to go online and purchase their ticket(s) for the fixture. Tickets will be sold using a ‘select your own seat’ model, giving fans the flexibility to choose where they sit and who they sit alongside - whether friends or family.

This system removes the need for travel groups as supporters can make seat selections directly during the purchase window.

Phase 4: Friday 1st August @ 2pm

Once the purchase window for successful applicants closes, any remaining tickets that haven’t been purchased will be offered to those who applied for the fixture and fall within the next tier of loyalty points below the point at which sales were previously fulfilled. For example, a fixture sells out at 10 loyalty points, tickets will then be offered to supporters who applied for tickets with 9 loyalty points.

2025/26:
Leeds (a) ticket timetable

From NUFC, Monday:

Phase 1: Monday 4th August @ 2pm

Ticket application opens for all season ticket holders to apply for a ticket for this fixture.

Phase 2: Tuesday 5th August @ 2pm

Ticket application window closes. The club will process all submissions, allocating tickets in loyalty point order. We will also ballot a small number of tickets to those who do not meet the loyalty points threshold.

Phase 3: Wednesday 6th August @ 2pm

Supporters who are successful in the application process will now be emailed with a window to go online and purchase their ticket(s) for the fixture. Tickets will be sold using a ‘select your own seat’ model, giving fans the flexibility to choose where they sit and who they sit alongside - whether friends or family.

This system removes the need for travel groups as supporters can make seat selections directly during the purchase window.

Phase 4: Friday 8th August @ 2pm

Once the purchase window for successful applicants closes, any remaining tickets that haven’t been purchased will be offered to those who applied for the fixture and fall within the next tier of loyalty points below the point at which sales were previously fulfilled. For example, a fixture sells out at 10 loyalty points, tickets will then be offered to supporters who applied for tickets with 9 loyalty points.

2025/26:
Away ticket update

From NUFC, Monday:

Following consultation with Season ticket holders, we will be introducing a revised process for selling away match tickets for the 2025/26 season.

In response to our survey, over 8,000 season ticket holders cast their vote on the away ticket allocation process.

The changes reflect strong fan feedback and a shared ambition to streamline the purchasing experience. The club will now adopt the preferred approach to enhance clarity and speed across the away ticketing process.

Breakdown of the voting results is outlined below:

Option 1 17% Option 2 17% Option 3 16% Option 4 50%

As a result, tickets will be allocated in line with Option 4, as detailed below. The Aston Villa fixture will be the first to follow this approach, with sales beginning on Monday 28th July.

Outlined below are the key dates and timings for the Aston Villa ticket sale.

Phase 1 - Monday 28th July – 2pm

Ticket application opens for all season ticket holders to apply for a ticket for this fixture.

Phase 2 - Tuesday 29th July – 2pm

Ticket application window closes. The club will process all submissions, allocating tickets in loyalty point order. We will also ballot a small number of tickets to those who do not meet the loyalty points threshold.

Phase 3 - Wednesday 30th July – 2pm

Supporters who are successful in the application process will now be emailed with a window to go online and purchase their ticket(s) for the fixture. Tickets will be sold using a ‘select your own seat’ model, giving fans the flexibility to choose where they sit and who they sit alongside - whether friends or family.

This system removes the need for travel groups as supporters can make seat selections directly during the purchase window.

Phase 4 - Friday 1st August – 2pm

Once the purchase window for successful applicants closes, any remaining tickets that haven’t been purchased will be offered to those who applied for the fixture and fall within the next tier of loyalty points below the point at which sales were previously fulfilled. For example, a fixture sells out at 10 loyalty points, tickets will then be offered to supporters who applied for tickets with 9 loyalty points.

FAQ’s

What happens if I miss the application window?

Unfortunately, the application window is limited to 24 hours. The club must allocate tickets based on loyalty points ahead of the seat selection phase, so late applications cannot be considered.

Can you apply as a group? Will loyalty points still apply individually?

Yes, supporters can apply within their friends and family group. However, each application is individual, so members of a group may receive different outcomes depending on their loyalty point threshold.

Is there an option to only be successful if your entire group is successful?

No, applications are reviewed on an individual basis. If only some group members qualify, those who are successful would need to forgo their ticket if the group wishes to attend together.

Can I register and purchase tickets over the phone?

If you require assistance registering for tickets, or purchasing your ticket, our Box Office can assist. Box Office can be contacted via email or phone between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

03443721892 [email protected]

How will I know when the ballot opens for a fixture?

Sales dates will be published here once fixture dates have been confirmed by broadcasters.

How will I know if I have been successful/unsuccessful for a fixture?

You will be contacted directly via email once the ballot or sales process has concluded with confirmation of whether you’ve been successful or not for that specific fixture.

If you are ever unsure, the website here will list the fixture and state what loyalty point number the game sold out at. You can view your loyalty points by logging into your account.

What happens if I don’t purchase my ticket after being successful?

If you don’t complete your purchase within the 48-hour window, your ticket will be offered to the next eligible supporters based on loyalty point order.

Will ID checks still be required at away fixtures?

Yes, ID checks will continue for the 2025/26 season to uphold the integrity of the loyalty point system.

What if I can’t attend an away fixture after purchasing?

Refunds will be available up to 72 hours before kick-off. Beyond the 72 hours, in case of emergency, season ticket holders should refer to our ticket forwarding policy. More details can be found here

Aside from popular demand, NUFC's justification for introducing the system was to: "Create a structured and transparent process, ensuring supporters know where they stand before committing to travel plans. Away tickets sold and allocated within approximately 7 working days."

The other options of continuing with an unchanged or amended version of what was in place relied on manual reductions to the loyalty point requirement - a previous attempt to adopt a standard time frame for doing that almost immediately went awry.

The new system also means that the long-running but little-known away season ticket has been abolished.

The loyalty point system continues but the process of reducing them incrementally is gone. Our own summary the new system is 24/24/48: 24 hours to apply, 24 hours to find out if successful, 48 hours to complete purchase.

PS: the 2025/26 away ticket procedure references the ticket forwarding policy for away games that went live last season. That permitted two transfers, which presumably means that same number applies this season.

Update:
Aaron, apparently

Update: The Mail speculate that a loan to buy option could be involved, which would have PSR ramifications.

Having failed to outwit Manchester City in their cunning plan to re-sign James Trafford, Newcastle have reportedly switched their attention to acquiring fellow England international goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The 27 year-old joined Bournemouth in 2017 during Eddie Howe's time in charge and was an unused substitute for the final Premier League game of their 2016/17 campaign.

Following loans out at Chesterfield and AFC Wimbledon, Ramsdale was between the sticks as the Cherries kicked off the 2019/20 season - playing all but one of the 38 games that ended in relegation from the top flight.

Following Howe out of Bournemouth but remaining in the Premier League at Sheffield United, he was an ever-present for the Blades but suffered a second successive demotion.

That was followed by claimed £24m sale to Arsenal, where he was first-choice for the first two of his three seasons in N5 before losing his place to David Raya.

A permanent move to Southampton then followed at the conclusion of the summer 2024 transfer window, adding a third Premier League relegation to his CV last season.

Ramsdale is under contract at St.Mary's until 2028, but his contract is claimed to include a clause allowing him to exit during the current window for £25m - less than United's failed bid to sign Trafford earlier this month.

He featured for the Saints on Saturday in a 1-2 friendly defeat by Espanyol in Spain.

The last of Aaron's five senior England caps came in 2024.

Teenage kick
costs Magpies

Arsenal  3  Newcastle  2

Newcastle suffered their second successive pre-season defeat on Sunday, but gave a rather better account of themselves than they had in Glasgow the weekend before.

Goals from Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy left the game level going into the closing stages, before a penalty from Martin Odegaard won it for Mikel Arteta's side.

Viktor Gyokeres was introduced to the crowd in Singapore's National Stadium before kickoff after completing his transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal but didn't feature.

Newcastle wore their home kit with white socks while Arsenal donned a blue change strip, the game kicking off in 30 degree heat at 7.30pm local time.

Making his first start for the Magpies, Anthony Elanga took barely five minutes to find the net after a move that was initiated by Sandro Tonali midway in his own half.

The ball reached the United right via Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, William Osula and Tonali to Kieran Trippier. Continuing his run, Tonali then centred to Elanga.

The Swede converted with a slightly scruffy finish; his right footed shot from 12 yards taking a touch off his left boot before looping beyond David Raya via a post - reminiscent of an Andy Cole effort at Oldham Athletic back in 1993.

Following a drinks break on the half hour, loss of possession by Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes deep in his own half to Mikel Merino led to a 33rd minute leveller.

The former Magpie found Trossard to his left and his threaded pass into Havertz was guided into the path of Merino, who nonchalantly side-footed a low shot beyond Nick Pope.

Within 90 seconds the Gunners were ahead; a clash between Trippier and Trossard on the United right leading to a quickly-taken free kick by the latter played down the touchline.

Havertz whipped that over dangerously and the ball was inadvertently whacked into his own net at the back post by Alex Murphy, with Saka lurking behind.

Eddie Howe's side returned for the second period with just Pope and Osula remaining from the original line-up; Pope blocking Saka's 56th minute bicycle kick at his near post.

Within two minutes United were level, substitute Jacob Murphy taking possession in a central spot outside the opposition and sending a low left footer beyond the despairing dive of Raya and into his bottom left corner.

Murphy then turned provider in the 68th minute, sending over with a fine cross from the right that Osula met with a powerful header just wide of a goal now guarded by replacement custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Concerns were raised by the 70th minute arrival of Harrison Ashby in place of Sven Botman - who himself was only introduced at the interval. Hopefully that's just a precaution, with the Dutchman walking off the field.

Pope then turned an effort from 15 year-old midfield Max Dowman round his post as the Magpies looked to regroup, Ashby going to right wing back and Krafth partnering Schar.

The North Londoners decisively regained the lead on 83 minutes when Joelinton's illegal contact on Dowman inside the area was punished by a penalty kick.

Substitute goalkeeper John Ruddy guessed correctly and dived to his right, but was unable to prevent Martin Odegaard beating him from 12 yards.

A post-match penalty shootout that had been mentioned (and took place after Arsenal's 1-0 win over AC Milan at  the same venue on Wednesday) wasn't staged.

The Newcastle squad now fly to Korea on Monday for two further kickabouts, with fitness doubts over Botman yet another unwanted concern for Howe.

Team: Pope (Ruddy 73), Trippier (Livramento 46), A.Murphy (Targett 46), Burn (Schar 46), Lascelles (Botman 46 [Ashby 70]), Tonali (Joelinton 46) Guimaraes (L.Miley 46), Osula (Neave 73), Elanga (J.Murphy 46), Willock (Schar 46), Gordon (Barnes 46). Subs n/u: Vlachodimos, Al.Harrison, Munda, Hernes, Park.

New signing Seung-Soo Park was included among the substitutes, taking shirt number 64.

Lewis Hall, Max Thompson and Mark Gillespie were all omitted from the matchday squad.

Goals: Elanga 6, J.Murphy 58

Booked: Lascelles

AFC:
Raya (Arrizabalaga 60), White (Nicholls 76), Saliba (Salmon 76), Calafiori (Kiwior 48), Lewis-Skelly (Zinchenko 76), Zubimendi (Norgaard 76), Merino (Rice 69), Nwaneri (Odegaard 46), Saka (Dowman 60), Trossard (Harriman -Aninous 76), Havertz (Martinelli 60). Subs n/u: Setford, Riojas-Fedorushchenko, Nelson, Lokonga, Copley, Kabia, Nichols.

As well as new boy Gyokeres, recent arrivals Noni Madueke
and Cristhian Mosquera weren't involved.

view from the away end

Less than 23,000 had watched Arsenal defeat AC Milan 1-0 in the same stadium earlier in the week.

Eddie Howe:

"It's business as usual for the players.

On the absence of Alexander Isak:

"Naturally we're going to miss a player of Alex's quality. The group will feel that. I can't sit here and claim they won't but we have a very professional group of players. They've been brilliant in terms of managing the situation."

On whether Isak would join the squad in Korea:

"No, no chance."

On Sven Botman:

"I did not see him struggling; he came off and said his groin was tight. Fingers crossed it's OK."

On transfers:

"We're not deluded. We know we need to bring players in. We've known that; we know what we wanted. It's been a challenging window."

Stats:

The game was played in the National Stadium, reconstructed since United visited in August 1996.

Kevin Keegan's Magpies defeated an S-League Select XI 5-0 that day; new signing Alan Shearer in attendance but not involved in the game.

This is the seventh different venue that these two clubs have met in - and the first outside England.

In addition to the four home stadia (St.James' Park, the Manor Ground, Highbury and the Emirates), the sides have clashed in FA Cup Finals at Wembley at the neutral venue of Stoke's Victoria Ground in the same competition.

This is the first time that Arsenal have defeated Newcastle in a non-competitive senior game. The only previous friendly meetings between the Magpies and the Gunners came during the 1900/01 season; a 1-1 Boxing Day draw in London followed by a 5-1 New Years Day home win.

Update:
Striker search

Aside from the failed attempts to capture Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, Newcastle have been credited with interest in the following forwards recently:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (unattached). Rumoured interest from AC Milan but excessive wage demands claimed.

Evann Guessand (Nice) Named on the bench for a 2-1 friendly victory over Feyenoord in Austria on Saturday but doesn't appear to have featured.

The 24 year-old Ivory Coast international is the subject of claimed interest both West Ham and Crystal Palace, with Brentford now linked as possible Wissa replacement.

Jorgen Strand Larsen (Wolves) The 25 year-old Norwegian international played just over an hour of a 1-1 kickabout away to Stoke City on Saturday.

Kolo Muani (PSG) Yet to commence pre-season training following World Cup Cup involvement.

Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)
Due to return to training imminently after holiday following Club World Cup Final on July 13th.

Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig)
25 year-old Belgian international Openda played the first 45 minutes of Saturday's 7-0 victory over FC Toulouse, scoring twice. Sesko appeared for the second half of the kickabout, part of Leipzig's training camp in the Black Forest.

Monday then found Sesko linked with...Manchester United.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) Started and scored in a 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in Louisville, USA on Saturday.

Yoane Wissa (Brentford) Returned from pre-season training in Portugal, one NUFC bid was rejected, no confirmation of further bids. Claims that the player is in dispute with the Bees after reneging on a previous promise to let him leave.

Rumoured interest from Spurs, Forest and Saudi side Neom in recent days.

Update:
Youngsters arrive

Newcastle have officially confirmed the signing of two 16 year-olds from Glasgow Rangers, left back Oliver Goodbrand and right-sided attacker Alfie Hutchison.

Updates are awaited on United's claimed acquisition of Isaac Moran, following reports that the 16 year-old England youth international had rejected a contract offer from current club Liverpool. He's a central midfielder.

U18s:
Rovers for openers

This season's U18 Premier League fixtures have been announced and can be read online here

Chris Moore's side will look to improve on last season's fifth-placed finish and begin with a home fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday August 16th (12.30pm).

Update:
Howe comments

The Newcastle boss faced the media in Singapore and inevitably fielded questions about Alexander Isak:

"With his injury, I've got no major update on that. He first mentioned his thigh just before the Celtic game and we assumed it would a be very minimal injury, nothing too serious.

"Then on the Monday after the Celtic game, he went in from training very early, didn't feel right, so he's now in Newcastle getting that injury assessed. Hopefully he'll be back soon playing in the black and white shirt. That's what we all want to see.

"Of course there's things going on behind the scenes. He will be aware he's in the news every day, and I'm sure that's not easy for anyone in that situation.

"Conversations that happen between Alex and the club or Alex and myself will stay private for obvious reasons. We do share a really good relationship with him.

"He's been magnificent for us since he's joined. He's very popular in the dressing room and we'd love him to continue his journey at Newcastle, although, whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle.

"I said after the Celtic game I certainly hope he stays and I said I was confident he would stay.

"I don't see anything that will change that opinion of mine at the moment - but it's football and who knows what the future may bring?

"As far as I'm aware, I don't think there are any
(Isak) contract talks taking place at the moment: that'll be for a later date potentially. I think for now, with the situation as it is and the state of the window, in the sense that it's hurtling towards the end of the window very quickly, from our perspective there's still so much that could happen.

"I wouldn't put a timescale on it. I think with these situations it has to be right for the football club and everything is then taken into context below that.

"A whole football club has to make the decision (to sell Isak). The ownership, together with the board of directors especially with the money involved in modern transfers. The manager has an opinion but ultimately the decision will rest with the board."

"All I would say on the broader picture is whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle. We're in a very strong position financially, we're determined to be successful, we are ambitious, we've got a great season ahead of us.

"We need to add to the squad and continue to improve, and the journey can continue on an upwards trajectory. I think that's what we all want so that's what we're battling to try and achieve.

"We have multiple players we are looking at in multiple positions but it's a challenge because prices are going up. We need to bring players in, we need to do business. We need the options and the
(squad) depth as we found out two years ago with Champions League football.

"I hope we can bring in players and players that can make a difference before the window shuts. We will not stop until the window shuts
(on September 1st).

"It's not about numbers, it's about quality. We have identified the positions, now can we find the quality that makes our team better?"

Update:
Midfielder exits loom

Reports from Spain claim that recent Newcastle signing Antonio Cordero is heading to Belgium on loan, making a season-long switch to Pro League side KVC Westerlo.

The 18 year-old Spanish youth international winger wasn't involved as Westerlo began their new season with a 2-5 loss at Anderlecht on Sunday. His prospective new side finished ninth last season in the 16 team top flight.

Meanwhile, League One side Leyton Orient are set to seal a season-long loan for midfielder Joe White, after the 22 year-old was omitted from the Asia tour party.

With the Magpies since 2018, Joe's senior bow came in a friendly at Rotherham United in 2021 and he featured against Celtic last weekend but has never played competitively for Newcastle's first team.

Under contract until 2026, he's previously had loan spells at EFL sides Exeter City, Hartlepool United, Crewe Alexandra and MK Dons, scoring a total of nine goals in 92 league and cup outings.

Update:
You what?

A remarkable claim made by The Guardian on Friday:

Alexander Isak has been offered a staggering £600,000-a-week tax-free deal by Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia with further lucrative bonuses on top. The Newcastle striker is open to leaving St James’ Park and Liverpool, who are long-term admirers, are keeping an eye on the situation.

Isak has not travelled to Asia with his Newcastle teammates for the club’s pre-season tour, officially because of a minor muscle injury, and is assessing his options. They include Al-Hilal, who reached the Club World Cup quarter-finals, losing to Fluminense, and want to make a grand statement by signing Isak – one of the most coveted players on the market.

Al-Hilal, who are managed by Simone Inzaghi, are prepared to sweeten the package for the striker with bonuses if he were to win the league and/or the Asian Champions League and top the scoring charts.

Isak has been unsettled by the transfer talk and he did not play for Newcastle in the friendly at Celtic last Saturday. The club have no desire to sell him and the fans would surely take the dimmest of views of their Saudi owners if they were to let him go to Al-Hilal. Like Newcastle, Al-Hilal are owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

It's tempting to believe that this is some PSR-evading wheeze, but that's seemingly at odds with the messages coming from Darsley Park and beyond.

2025/26:
Tigers tie

Newcastle U21s  1  Hull City U21s  1

Newcastle U21s were in home friendly action on Saturday, playing out a draw with their Humberside counterparts.

It's reported that Garang Kuol netted for the hosts, with teenage defender Harry Revill on target for the Tigers.

Team: Harrison (Harris 46), Shahar, Heffernan (Watts 46), McArthur (C.Thompson 46), Bryant (Charlton 46), Bailey  Finneran, (Harper 46), Yildiz (Fitzgerald 46), Sanusi (Ferreira 46), Kuol, Brayson.

Henry Johnson, Alex O'Donovan and Kacey Wooster also reportedly featured during the second half.

The U21s return to action this Sunday when they make the short trip over the Tyne to South Shields for a 3pm kick-off at the First Cloud Arena.

They won't come up against former Magpie Kyle Crossley however, after he sustained ligament damage during a fri

Update:
Isak: inevitable update

Latest: The Times claim that a contract extension and substantial increase on his wages was recently offered to Alexander Isak by Newcastle but rejected.

The Magpies were reportedly prepared to pay £200K a week but the player is said to be holding out for nearer £300K.

Earlier: Following confirmation of Alexander's Isak absence from the touring squad, the player has reportedly "told Newcastle he wants to explore a move away from the club" during the current transfer window.

They stress that no formal transfer request has been made by the 25 year-old, no bids have been received and the player is not for sale according to his current club.

None of those things matter though; the message is clear. A concerted campaign from the North West involving briefings to sympathetic media outlets has succeeded in unsettling the player and encouraged his representatives.

This latest development will doubtless prompt a backlash against Isak from disgruntled Newcastle fans, which will then be advanced as a reason for his inevitable exit.

How much blame can be attached to United is debatable, but a turnover of director level personalities hardly helps paint a picture of a club with a coherent strategy.

There's a feeling the project has stalled and the grand off-field plans of PIF remain unannounced, along with the enforced inactivity of successive transfer windows.

Ultimately though it comes down to money. The Premier League have ensured that the Magpies cannot match the salaries offered elsewhere - and cannot reject any sizeable offer made to them for their prize asset.

Whether the club are capable of reinvesting the anticipated Isak cash to a level where they remain competitive by improving the squad is the £150m question.

Meltdown:
Thigh's the limit....

Thursday saw the Newcastle squad fly out for their Asian tour without Alexander Isak, reportedly due to a thigh problem.

The news comes as a hammer blow to Eddie Howe, who failed to mention any injury concerns following the player's absence at Celtic on Saturday but expected that his top scorer would be on the plane to Singapore.

That leaves United with William Osula as their sole senior striker available for upcoming friendlies against Arsenal, Spurs and a Korean select XI.

The news inevitably provoked a storm of speculation regarding the future of the Swedish forward, still the subject of strong interest from Liverpool despite their acquisition of Hugo Ekitike.

In the light of news that Isak refused to accept improved terms to remain at Gallowgate, it appears that Newcastle attempted to acquire Ekitike as his replacement, only to be outflanked by the Anield club.

To embark on a promotional tour without the clubs' most high-profile player does little to enhance our reputation - even if only as a non-playing member of the party.

Having targeted the global fanbase for their future revenue goals, there's a certain irony in making a long haul trip to show up our shortcomings first-hand to those new fans.

Using words like "crisis" about a squad newly-augmented by a £50m+ signing seems ridiculous, but concerns over the current direction of the club are pertinent and valid.

Callum Wilson's exit was correct for all concerned but a player with 47 Premier League goals obviously needs replacing - and the prospect of one with 54 goals to to his name following him down Barrack Road would rightly raise questions about just who is in control around here.

As ever, in the absence of communication from this club, the vacuum is soon filled - usually to our detriment.

2025/26:
TV times

The Premier League have now confirmed their live TV picks for September, with one Newcastle game rescheduled:

Sat 13.09.2025 Wolves (h) 3pm no live UK TV
Sat 20.09.2025 Bournemouth (a) 3pm no live UK TV
Sun 28.09.2025 Arsenal (h) 4.30pm Sky

The Arsenal game falls between Newcastle's midweek Carabao Cup Third Round tie* and the second round of Champions League fixtures, spread across Tuesday September 30th and Wednesday October 1st.

With reference to the Bournemouth away game, just because it hasn't been selected for live TV, that doesn't confirm 100% that it will be a 3pm Saturday kick-off.

The first round of Champions League fixtures take place on the preceding Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: were Newcastle to be in action on the Thursday, that would result in the Bournemouth game moving to the Sunday.

While the Spurs v Wolves game picked for Sky on Sunday 28th is liable to change if Spurs are playing a Champions League tie on the 30th, there's no similar advice regarding our game v Arsenal on the same day - reason unknown.

The situation mirrors for our game regardless of that: were ourselves or Arsenal to be playing in the Champions League on the 30th then we would not meet in the PL on the 28th.

So in real terms, only the Wolves game is now confirmed, with the other three liable to possible change in the days following the Champions League draw on August 28th.

* that is split over two successive midweeks, with teams involved in the Champions League assured of playing their Carabao Cup tie during second of the two weeks.

There are no scheduled rail works between London Kings Cross on the day of the Arsenal game. For once.

The Bournemouth game looks unaffected by rail engineering work on the Saturday. Were it to be played on the Sunday, trains would still run direct to and from London but with average journey times extended by 45 minutes and trains not calling at either Basingstoke or Winchester.

Update:
New faces

Following news that Sudarshan Gopaladesikan has been appointed as Technical Director by Newcastle, the vacant roles of Chief Executive Officer and Sporting Director are anticipated to be filled in the near future.

Several names have appeared in connection with both posts, but David Hopkinson is poised to become CEO in succession to Darren Eales, with Ross Wilson tipped to replace the now-departed Paul Mitchell as SD.

The 54 year-old Canadian Hopkinson had been in charge of the US-based Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation and was Global Head of Partnerships for Real Madrid between 2018 and 2020.

He also had an earlier involvement with sports teams in Toronto, which included MLS side Toronto FC.

41 year-old Scotsman Wilson meanwhile remains in post at Nottingham Forest, having held a similar position at Rangers until tempted across the border in 2023.

Whoops, He did it Again...

From the BBC, it only seems like yesterday that Sean lifted the First Division trophy in 1907 with Colin Veitch and Bill McCracken.....

(Peter Briggs, Stuart Millen, James Thow)

Sudarshan Gopaladesikan has recently been appointed as the club's new technical director, like Eales, making the move from Atalanta Utd.

The Daily Record's report of Newcastle's bid to recruit Ross Wilson manages to confuse an Italian football club and one in the USA.

What's this all about then? Click here
for a rambling explanation of sorts....

On This Day in History
28th July

Born Or Died:

1906 Isaac Tate born, Gateshead.
(1923-27)

Goalkeeper who signed for the princely sum of £5 from Marley Hill in August 1923.

"Ike" had a brief spell in Newcastle's first team when both Alex Mutch and understudy Bill Bradley were injured, making his debut in a 4-1 home win over West Ham United.

Despite standing at just 5'7", Tate was to move on to the Hammers on a free transfer in May 1927 and played against Newcastle on Christmas Eve of that year - when his new club won 5-2 at The Boleyn Ground.

Again failing to become first-choice, Ike joined Doncaster Rovers two years later and played on until 1935, joining the coaching staff following promotion to Division Two.

1927 Matthew McNeil born, Glasgow.
(1949-51)

Centre half whose 6'3" inch frame was occasionally deployed by Newcastle, in place of fellow Scot Frank Brennan.

Signed from Hibs for £6,400 in December 1949, McNeil debuted in a 1-2 loss at Middlesbrough on Christmas Day 1950.

United made a profit on him when Barnsley forked out £10,500 at the start of the 1950/51 season and Matt later played for Brighton and Hove Albion, Norwich City and Cambridge United.

Returning to Scotland and settling in Kirkintilloch, McNeil succumbed to lung cancer in April 1977.

1952 Derek Craig born, Ryton.
(1969-75)

A League Cup outing against Arsenal in 1971 that ended in a 0-4 Highbury reverse proved to be the high point of centre-half Derek's SJP career - along with a Texaco Cup tie appearance three years later v Burnley.

Coming through the club's youth system, Derek was a reserve team regular until he left the club in 1975, signing up for a stint in the USA with San Jose Earthquakes.

Returning to England, Craig played for Darlington, York City and local non-league side Brandon United.

1985 Mathieu Debuchy born, Fretin, France. (2013-14)

At Gallowgate as Newcastle began 2013 with a 1-2 home defeat to Everton, French international right back Debuchy joined from Lille on a five and half year contract for a claimed £5m.

With hometown side Union Sport Fretin as a youngster, Matheiu joined Lille at the age of eight and came through the ranks to make the first of over 200 senior team appearances in January 2004.

2011 was a momentous year for the player, who won a French League and double Cup with Lille in May and collected his first full cap for France against Albania in November.

Links between Newcastle and Debuchy first appeared in April 2012 and he played and scored for France against Iceland a month later, with United scouts present.

Appearing for his country in all four of their Euro 2012 fixtures, Lille reportedly rejected two bids by Newcastle of between £4m and £6m before apparent agreement on a £6.3m fee was reached - only for a row over add-ons to erupt.

A deal still looked likely in pre-season, amid talk of Debuchy's close friendship with Yohan Cabaye and quotes attributed to the player asking to be allowed to make a switch from Lille to Tyneside.

By August however, the player had been told by Lille that they would refuse any offers to sell him and he appeared in their season-opening league win at St. Etienne.

That was to be his only club appearance in over a month though, sustaining an ankle injury playing for France days later.

Having belatedly moved to the Premier League, Mathieu debuted in a 0-0 draw at Norwich City during January 2013.

However he didn't exactly hit the ground running and ended up sharing right back duties with the unfancied Danny Simpson.

That was due in part to fitness issues, but also some questionable defending that manifested itself in needlessly-conceded penalties against Aston Villa and QPR.

Some concerns were also raised by his apparently deliberate and successful attempt to be sent off dismissed during United's 0-6 home hammering by Liverpool.

After an improved 2013/14 season that included his first club goal (away to the mackems), speculation that the French international would follow his big mate Yohan Cabaye to PSG did the rounds.

That proved to be a false claim, but the player's acknowledgement of the fans in United's final games of the season was a strong indicator that his time as a Magpie was up, with Arsenal strongly linked.

Following protracted negotiations, Mathieu became a Gunner in July 2014, following his return from the World Cup Finals in Brazil - where he made four appearances.

United raked in around £10m-£12m, of which £5m went on Dutch World Cup right back Daryl Janmaat, who arrived from Feyenoord as an instant replacement.

Debuchy's first season as a Gunner was a disappointment though, injury restricting his availability and leading to claims that he was surplus to requirements at the Emirates after just 12 months.

Regaining fitness but failing to hold down a regular starting place a loan move to Bordeaux followed in February 2016.

Back at the Gunners, Injury saw Debuchy play just 16 minutes of the 2016/17 season after injuring his hamstring.

Joining St. Etienne on a free transfer in January 2018, he remained with Les Verts until May 2021 when moving on to Ligue 2 side Valenciennes.

Retiring in 2023 Mathieu coached at lower league side US Lequin, returning to join the staff at former club Lille the following year.

What Else?

1948 United belatedly marked promotion to Division One with a party at the Oxford Galleries for players "and their wives and sweethearts" as The Journal reported.

Players were each presented with unique books including pictures of them in action along with a caricature. "The womenfolk" meanwhile received handbags.

After an inspirational performance at Reading, Ruud Gullit replaced Des Hamilton early on as we made our Britannia bow, but confirmed his retirement as player after a lethargic display.

Recent signing Franck Dumas scored with a stunning long-range strike and striker Paul Robinson continued his pre-season scoring streak with what proved to be the winner.

2000 A Magpie discards XI came back from a two-goal deficit against Workington at Borough Park to record their third pre-season victory.

Stuart Green scored just after the break, David McMahon pulled us level on the hour and a deflected own goal from a Jamie Coppinger shot completed a 3-2 win.

2001 A strong Reserve side conspired to throw away a 2-0 half time lead at Queen of the South, allowing John Connolly's Doonhamers to get back on level terms.

Olivier Bernard and a Stuart Green penalty had put the Magpies ahead, but a frail defensive display from Marcelino undermined their efforts.

United's pre-season schedule took them to Portman Road on a tropical Wednesday evening, for a well-attended friendly staged in memory of the late Northumbrian-born Town player and coach Dale Roberts.

The link was of course Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson, who was angered by the booing from home fans directed at one-time Canaries striker, Craig Bellamy.

Future Magpie striker Shefki Kuqi opened the scoring for the Tractor Boys, while a trio of former Town players lined up in black and white: messrs Ambrose, Bramble and Dyer.

2005 Despite almost joining Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic over the summer, it seemed that midfielder Lee Bowyer's future remained at SJP, following his Intertoto Cup goal against Deportivo la Coruna.

2006 The draw for the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round took place and Newcastle were paired with FK Ventspils of Latvia.

However, the away leg was switched from the coastal town to the national stadium in Riga - partly due to the poor road links which weren't ideal for the trucks carrying TV crews and broadcast equipment.

2009 Magpies winger Jonas Gutierrez was named in Argentina's squad for a friendly in Moscow against Russia, but coach Diego Maradona again overlooked Fabricio Coloccini.

2010 Newcastle confirmed that they had completed the signing of free agent Sol Campbell after completing his medical.

The ex-England international
became the oldest player in the squad - six months older than Steve Harper - and would also become our oldest Premier League participant, even longer in the tooth than Ian Rush.

Beto of Sporting Braga was added to the list of keepers who paid the price for failing to heed the clear and present danger of Ryan Taylor over the wall.

The former Portuguese international was powerless to prevent United's number 16 serving up one of his trademark dead ball conversions, propelling United to victory at the Estadio Algarve in Portugal.

Fabricio Coloccini then lifted the rather awkwardly-titled (and proportioned) Trofeu Internacional de Futebol do Guadiana as his side successfully collected silverware, albeit akin to a dodgy TV aerial.

2019 United were reportedly set to sign Stanley Nsoki of Paris Saint Germain on a permanent deal - only for the 20 year-old full back to seal a transfer to OGC Nice.

2023 With
ratification of Allan Saint-Maximin's transfer to Saudi side Al-Ahli due, Karl Darlow flew back from Newcastle's USA tour in order to complete a permanent switch to Leeds United.

Loan deals saw Jamal Lewis join Watford and Kell Watts link up with Wigan Athletic.

2024 United revealed a 28 man squad for their two game tour of Japan, England duo Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon both excused after their Euro Final service.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley and Callum Wilson were omitted due to injury but Sandro Tonali was included despite the terms of his ban preventing him from featuring in either fixture.
