2025/26:
Villa (a) ticket sales

Those who applied for Aston Villa away tickets should* now have received emails confirming their success or failure to be allocated one, with NUFC confirming that the loyalty point cut off point was 30 points.

The ballot for those with a smaller points total also looks to have taken place, meaning everyone now knows whether they've been successful or not, at least in theory.

HOWEVER, the text of the email received makes no mention of the fact that seat selection is still required in order to complete the purchase, selecting seats and purchasing via the NUFC ticket website.

This must be done by 2pm on Friday.

Multiple sections are available, click on the right hand direction button to see them all.

For this game, P section tickets are upstairs.

*
we're hearing from increasing numbers of ST holders who applied but received no email from NUFC as to whether they had been successful.

We'd advise logging to your NUFC ticket account if you haven't had an email and checking to see whether you're able to purchase a ticket. The email doesn't contain any bespoke link or other vital information.

One ST holder can log on and apply on behalf of seven STs listed in their friends and family - in other words, the maximum number of accounts in a transaction is eight.

NUFC say that all supporters who apply for tickets will receive an email whether they are successful or not.

A recap on the process:

Aston Villa (a) timetable:

Phase 1: Monday 28th July @ 2pm. Ticket application opens for all season ticket holders to apply for a ticket for this fixture.

Phase 2: Tuesday 29th July @ 2pm. Ticket application window closes. The club will process all submissions, allocating tickets in loyalty point order. We will also ballot a small number of tickets to those who do not meet the loyalty points threshold.

Phase 3: Wednesday 30th July @ 2pm. Supporters who are successful in the application process will now be emailed with a window to go online and purchase their ticket(s) for the fixture. Tickets will be sold using a ‘select your own seat’ model, giving fans the flexibility to choose where they sit and who they sit alongside - whether friends or family.

This system removes the need for travel groups as supporters can make seat selections directly during the purchase window.

Phase 4: Friday 1st August @ 2pm. Once the purchase window for successful applicants closes, any remaining tickets that haven’t been purchased will be offered to those who applied for the fixture and fall within the next tier of loyalty points below the point at which sales were previously fulfilled. For example, a fixture sells out at 10 loyalty points, tickets will then be offered to supporters who applied for tickets with 9 loyalty points.

Away ticket update

Monday saw NUFC introduce radical changes to the sales and distribution process for away tickets online here

Aside from "popular demand", NUFC's justification for the change the system was to: "Create a structured and transparent process, ensuring supporters know where they stand before committing to travel plans. Away tickets sold and allocated within approximately 7 working days."

The next two sales dates have been announced:

Leeds (a)
Applications open: Mon 04.08.2025 @ 2pm
Applications close: Tue 05.08.2025 @ 2pm
Sales open: Wed 06.08.2025 @ 2pm
Sales close: Fri 08.08.2025 @ 2pm

Bournemouth (a)
Applications open: Mon 25.08.2025 @ 2pm
Applications close: Tue 26.08.2025 @ 2pm
Sales open: Wed 27.08.2025 @ 2pm
Sales close: Fri 29.08.2025 @ 2pm

Update:
Isak sighting - claim

Reports in the Spanish media claim that Alexander Isak has been sighted in the Spanish city of San Sebastian, working with a personal trainer at the Zubieta training ground of his former club, Real Sociedad.

Were the Swedish striker to change clubs, then Sociedad would be in line for a cash windfall via a sell-on clause.

2025/26:
K-flops

Team K League  1  Newcastle  0

Wednesday saw Newcastle suffer their third successive friendly loss of this pre-season, beaten by a Korean select side at a sweltering Suwon World Cup Stadium.

Making three changes from the side that began the 2-3 defeat to Arsenal in Singapore 72 hours before, United quickly threatened the Koreans - Lewis Miley's cross from the right diverted off target by Anthony Gordon.

The home side threatened soon after when current K-League top scorer Lee Jin-woo sent a low effort from the edge of the box wide of Nick Pope's goal.

After that though, there was little in the way of coherent attacking from either side until a drinks break on the half hour: desirable with temperatures touching 33 degrees at kick-off - three degrees hotter than in Singapore.

Anthony Elanga wasn't far away with a looping effort from Emil Krafth's right wing centre before the K-Leaguers went ahead in the 35th minute.

Jeonbuk Hyundai striker Kim Jin-gyu beat Pope at his near post from just outside the six yard box before celebrating netting against a big fish, by impersonating one.....

Newcastle made no interval changes, while the K League made eight alterations but the contest remained dreary for the most part, the visitors badly lacking up front.

Save for the pre-match and half time performances of K-pop combo IVE, the biggest crowd reaction of the evening came when local lad Park Seung-soo made his Toon bow for a clearly frustrated Will Osula in the closing stages.

Park's efforts livened up United and they pressed the domestic side back in search of an equaliser - captain Jamaal Lascelles twice directing headers wide.

Eddie Howe suffered a further injury blow in the final seconds of normal time, Joe Willock staying down after a tackle and leaving the field on a stretcher in obvious discomfort with what appeared to be an ankle issue.

More to follow...

Team:
Pope (M.Thompson 72), Livramento, A.Murphy, Lascelles, Krafth (Ashby 72), Tonali (Hernes 77), Willock Al.Harrison (90+1), L.Miley, Osula (Park 82), Elanga, Gordon.
Subs n/u: Vlachodimos, Gillespie, Ruddy, Trippier, Hall, Schar, Joelinton, Barnes, Targett, J.Murphy, Burn, Guimaraes, Munda, Neave.

Sven Botman didn't feature as a precaution following his truncated outing in Singapore with groin concerns.

TKL: Jo Hyeon-woo (Kim Kyung-min 46), Kim Young-gwon (Eo Jeong-won 60) Park Jin-seob (Anton 46), Byeon Jun-soo (Caio 46), Mota, Jeon Jin-woo (Asani 46), Lee Dong-gyeong (Luan 46), Kim Dong-hyun (Bojanic 46 [Do-yoon Hwang 80), Lee Chang-min (Oberdan 46), Thomas Oude Kotte (Han Hyun-seo 80), Kim Jin-gyu (Cesinha 46). Sub n/u: Kryvotsyuk

12 opposition players were selected by a public vote with the rest of the squad chosen by coach Pan-gon Kim.

Referee:
Kim Woo-Sung

Eddie Howe:

"It was a really good test for us. Very tough conditions.

"We are disappointed to lose because after the second half performance, I thought we should have got something out of the game.

"The K-League's fitness levels are mid-season and you could tell they had that sharpness and experience of playing in this heat.

"The first half we started well and then faded in terms of our attacking intent. You want tough games and we will have got a load out of it physically which is what pre-season is for."

"We want to win and score goals but the most important thing is the Aston Villa game."

On Park:

"I thought he did well. Not an easy situation to come into the game because there's a lot of expectation on him.

"For someone so young, I thought he handled it really well. And you can see he's got this ability when he goes one on one to chop the defender.

"He's got a really good body feint, and I was really, really pleased with him. So he can be really happy with his performance today."

On Joe Willock:

"I don't have a major update yet but it didn't look great on the pitch.

"But at this moment, it doesn't look like a major, major injury. Fingers crossed it's not, because Joe has suffered enough. Hopefully he's OK."

Park added:

"I thought it would be amazing to make my debut in Korea, and the manager gave me a great opportunity, so I was able to make a wonderful debut.

"My biggest strength is dribbling. I tried to show what I do best when I stepped onto the pitch. I’m glad the moment I was aiming for came out.

"I wanted to entertain fans here tonight, and I am glad things worked out well. I don't usually hear fans' chants during matches, but for some reason, I was able to hear them tonight. They made me feel more confident.

"When I joined the team, I really felt that the players were physically and athletically perfect. I realized I need to build more strength through additional weight training. I want to adapt to the team quickly and work hard so I can make my EPL debut as soon as possible.”

"I thought it'd be great to make my debut here at Big Bird, and the coach gave me a great opportunity. He didn't really give me any specific orders. He just told me where to be on offense."

On the possibility of becoming "the second Son Heung-min" as the K League Select coach had said:

"I want to be the first Park Seung-soo, someone that others want to be like.

On the possibility of facing Tottenham's Son in Seoul on Sunday:

"I've never met Heung-min before. When I do get a chance, I will tell him I am a huge fan of his."

Crowd:
tbc - estimated at around 18,000 in a 42,000 capacity stadium.

The game started a few minutes late, after six members of K-pop turn IVE conducted a ceremonial kick-off, each of them hoofing the ball from the halfway line with varying degrees of proficiency.

They were facing the same way as Newcastle at the time, so maybe their efforts will count as shots in our favour - there weren't many others....

Stats:

There were senior debuts for 18 year-old attacker Park Seung-Soo and goalkeeper Max Thompson, two days short of his 21st birthday.

This was the fifth time that a K League XI has played friendly opposition and the second time they've won:

2019 Juventus (h) drew 3-3
2022 Spurs (h) lost 3-6
2023 Atletico Madrid (h) won 3-2
2024 Spurs (h) lost 3-4
2025 Newcastle (h) won 1-0

Update:
Ramsdale reunion

Newcastle have reached agreement with Championship side Southampton on a season-long loan deal for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and he's now on Tyneside.

The Stoke-born 27 year-old flew for his medical on Wednesday before putting pen to paper on a loan with a subsequent purchase option. A £4m loan fee is claimed.

The move follows United's failure to sign long-term target James Trafford, who completed a permanent return from Burnley to previous club Manchester City on Tuesday.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, press reports credited Manchester United with a interest in Nick Pope - oddly enough they don't seem to want Martin Dubravka back...

Ramsdale joined Bournemouth in 2017 during Eddie Howe's time in charge and was an unused substitute for the final Premier League game of their 2016/17 campaign.

Following loans at Chesterfield and AFC Wimbledon, he was between the sticks as the Cherries began the 2019/20 season - playing all but one of the 38 games that led to their relegation from the top flight.

Following Howe out of Bournemouth but remaining in the Premier League at Sheffield United, he was an ever-present for the Blades but suffered a second successive demotion.

That was followed by claimed £24m sale to Arsenal, where Aaron was first-choice for the first two of his three seasons in N5 before losing his place to David Raya.

A permanent move to Southampton then followed at the conclusion of the summer 2024 transfer window, adding a third Premier League relegation to his CV last season.

Ramsdale is under contract at St.Mary's until 2028, but his contract is claimed to include a clause allowing him to exit during the current window for £25m - less than United's failed bid to sign Trafford earlier this month.

He featured for the Saints last Saturday in a 1-2 friendly defeat by Espanyol in Spain.

The last of Aaron's five senior England caps came in 2024.

2025/26:
Howe: no Isak bid

Media comments from the Magpies boss on Tuesday:

On Alexander Isak:

"He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.’

"We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year.’

"I’ve been travelling and today we’ve been working on the training for this afternoon. With these trips, they are always so intense. Of course, I’m in contact with the people I need to be in contact with back at home, but it’s very minimal contact when you’re away."

On new signings:

"It is an important time for us. There is lots to take in. We have to bring the right type of player in. We should in no way act out of character and should work how we always have in the window. That is in a strategic way.

"If the right player isn’t available to us for the right price, then we can't do the deals. Everything has to fall in line. We are looking to add depth and quality to the areas that we have identified.

"Fingers crossed we can get deals done."

On Sven Botman:

"We didn’t think it was a serious injury at the time and we've had that confirmed with a scan.

"He won’t play tomorrow.  He could play against Tottenham on Sunday, but possibly not.

"We hope he’ll be available for the double header at St James’ Park
(on August 8th and 9th)."

On new signing Seung-soo Park:

"I think it's slightly unclear what's going to happen short term with him - we're going to have to make an assessment on where we see him fitting in the best currently.

"We've had only a very short term impression, one or two training sessions. It's been very positive so far - he seems like a very good person, fundamentally, and it's all new experiences for him but I sure he'll do very, very well.

"We're very keen to look at this is a future market for us,
signing a similar profile of player, so this is hopefully the start.

"I'll do everything I can to try to get him on the pitch (in Suwon) because I think that'll be important for him and of course everyone that wants to see him play. I'll certainly do my best.

"We've got lots of information we'll be giving him but I think it'll just be a case of go out and play his normal game and that will be good enough."

2025/26:
Change kit confirmed

The Magpies confirm that their second kit will go on sale this coming Friday (August 1st) but wasn't worn as was advertised against the K League XI on Wednesday.

The accompanying press release from adidas neglects to mention the similarity to the green in the Saudi Arabian flag, but does confirm the source of the shirt design:

"We took the famous Tyne Bridge arch as inspiration and created the bold pattern to represent the iconic structure across the new shirt.”

The Tyne Bridge of course is currently working at reduced capacity due to prolonged lack of investment and issues in retaining suitably qualified personnel. Very fitting then.

Match report

Meltdown:
Isak timeline

Sun 04.05 Isak scored his 54th Premier League goal (62nd in all competitions) for Newcastle - a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Sun 18.05
Isak missed the 0-1 Premier League loss at Arsenal, Howe told the media that he'd had a scan on a groin problem and rest rather than surgery was forecast.

Sun 25.05
Isak played the entirety of a 0-1 Premier loss at home to Everton, Newcastle's season-ending fixture.

Tue 27.05
Isak withdrew from Sweden's squad for two games in June due to a minor injury, presumably groin.

Mon 14.07
Isak was part of the Newcastle party that flew to Austria for a week-long training camp.

Sat 19.07
Isak was absent as Newcastle faced Celtic; Eddie Howe told the media that he'd allowed him to leave the squad as he needed "more training time" but that he expected him to join the club's upcoming tour of Asia.

Mon 21.07
Isak trained away from the rest of the squad at Darsley Park but reportedly cut short the session.

(some source claim this may have been on 22.07)

Tue 22.07 Newcastle reportedly switched targets to Brentford's Yoane Wissa, to augment (or replace) Isak.

Wed 23.07
Liverpool completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, a player Newcastle had attempted to sign to augment (or replace) Isak.

Thu 24.07 Isak wasn't on the plane to Singapore and multiple media outlets reported he'd "told Newcastle he wants to explore a move away from the club".

The Times wrote that Isak refused to accept improved terms and an extension to his current Newcastle contract, allegedly seeking £300k per week - an amount the club wouldn't be able to meet given their financial status.

Fri 25.07 The Guardian wrote that Isak had been offered a basic weekly wage of £600K by Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Sat 26.07 Howe met the media in Singapore and had no update on Isak's thigh injury but called it minimal and was still confident that he would remain a Newcastle player.

Sun 27.07
Newcastle lost 2-3 to Arsenal, Howe telling reporters there was "no chance" Isak would be in Korea.

Mon 28.07 Newcastle arrived in Korea without Isak.

Tue 29.07 Howe told the media that no bid had been received for Isak and he remained a Magpie.

U21s:
International Cup draw

The draw for season's U21 International Cup has taken place, with Newcastle U21s returning to the competition and placed in Group C.

Along with Brighton, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, the Magpies are joined by Paris SG, Dinamo Zagreb, Real Sociedad and Benfica.

The arrangement of the 32 team competition means that none of the Premier League teams meet, but each of them host the four continental sides in England.

Update:
Youngsters arrive

Newcastle have officially confirmed the signing of two 16 year-olds from Glasgow Rangers, left back Oliver Goodbrand and right-sided attacker Alfie Hutchison.

Updates are awaited on United's claimed acquisition of Isaac Moran, following reports that the 16 year-old England youth international had rejected a contract offer from current club Liverpool. He's a central midfielder.

U18s:
Rovers for openers

This season's U18 Premier League fixtures have been announced and can be read online here

Chris Moore's side will look to improve on last season's fifth-placed finish and begin with a home fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday August 16th (12.30pm).

Update:
O's take Joe

League One side Leyton Orient have sealed a season-long loan for Joe White after the midfielder was omitted from the Asia tour party despite facing Celtic in pre-season.

With the Magpies since 2018, 22 year-old Joe's senior bow came from the bench at home to Bournemouth in February - one of four Premier League outings as a substitute.

Previous loan spells at EFL sides Exeter City, Hartlepool United, Crewe Alexandra and MK Dons, brought him nine goals in 92 league and cup outings.

Meanwhil,
reports from Spain claim that recent Newcastle arrival Antonio Cordero is heading out on loan to Belgian Pro League side KVC Westerlo.

The 18 year-old Spanish youth international winger wasn't involved as Westerlo began their new season with a 2-5 loss at Anderlecht on Sunday. His prospective new side finished ninth last season in the 16 team top flight.

2025/26:
Mariners up next

The U21s return to action on Sunday when they make the short trip over the Tyne to South Shields for a 3pm kick-off at the First Cloud Arena.

They won't come up against former Magpie Kyle Crossley however, after he sustained ligament damage during a friendly match against Carlisle United.

Admission prices are £5 in advance online here

The same game 12 months ago ended
1-1 in front of 1,424 fans. Then as now, the U21s were between coaches.

2025/26:
TV times

The Premier League have now confirmed their live TV picks for September, with one Newcastle game rescheduled:

Sat 13.09.2025 Wolves (h) 3pm no live UK TV
Sat 20.09.2025 Bournemouth (a) 3pm no live UK TV
Sun 28.09.2025 Arsenal (h) 4.30pm Sky

The Arsenal game falls between Newcastle's midweek Carabao Cup Third Round tie* and the second round of Champions League fixtures, spread across Tuesday September 30th and Wednesday October 1st.

With reference to the Bournemouth away game, just because it hasn't been selected for live TV, that doesn't confirm 100% that it will be a 3pm Saturday kick-off.

The first round of Champions League fixtures take place on the preceding Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: were Newcastle to be in action on the Thursday, that would result in the Bournemouth game moving to the Sunday.

While the Spurs v Wolves game picked for Sky on Sunday 28th is liable to change if Spurs are playing a Champions League tie on the 30th, there's no similar advice regarding our game v Arsenal on the same day - reason unknown.

The situation mirrors for our game regardless of that: were ourselves or Arsenal to be playing in the Champions League on the 30th then we would not meet in the PL on the 28th.

So in real terms, only the Wolves game is now confirmed, with the other three liable to possible change in the days following the Champions League draw on August 28th.

* that is split over two successive midweeks, with teams involved in the Champions League assured of playing their Carabao Cup tie during second of the two weeks.

There are no scheduled rail works between London Kings Cross on the day of the Arsenal game. For once.

The Bournemouth game looks unaffected by rail engineering work on the Saturday. Were it to be played on the Sunday, trains would still run direct to and from London but with average journey times extended by 45 minutes and trains not calling at either Basingstoke or Winchester.

Update:
New faces

Following confirmation of the appointment of Sudarshan Gopaladesikan as Newcastle United Technical Director, the vacant roles of Chief Executive Officer and Sporting Director are anticipated to be filled in the near future.

Several names have appeared in connection with both posts, but David Hopkinson is poised to become CEO in succession to Darren Eales, with Ross Wilson tipped to replace the now-departed Paul Mitchell as SD.

The 54 year-old Canadian Hopkinson had been in charge of the US-based Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation and was Global Head of Partnerships for Real Madrid between 2018 and 2020.

He also had an earlier involvement with sports teams in Toronto, which included MLS side Toronto FC.

41 year-old Scotsman Wilson meanwhile remains in post at Nottingham Forest, having held a similar position at Rangers until tempted across the border in 2023.

Whoops, He did it Again...

From the BBC, it only seems like yesterday that Sean lifted the First Division trophy in 1907 with Colin Veitch and Bill McCracken.....

(Peter Briggs, Stuart Millen, James Thow)

Sudarshan Gopaladesikan has recently been appointed as the club's new technical director, like Eales, making the move from Atalanta Utd.

The Daily Record's report of Newcastle's bid to recruit Ross Wilson manages to confuse an Italian football club and one in the USA.

What's this all about then? Click here
for a rambling explanation of sorts....

On This Day in History
30th July

Born Or Died:

1932 Alexander Gaskell born, Leigh, Manchester. (1953-54)

Centre forward Alec began his career at local Lancashire side Hindsford before attracting the attention of Manchester United in 1949 - although he failed to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils during two years at Old Trafford.

Moving on to Southport in 1951, Gaskell's form brought First Division scouts to Haig Avenue and Newcastle bid £5,000 in October 1953 to secure his services.

Featuring for United's first team just once -  a 2-3 home defeat by Middlesbrough on Boxing Day 1953 - Alec moved on to Mansfield Town the following season, staying at Field Mill until joining Grantham Town in summer 1956.

Making a fleeting return to the Football League a year later with Tranmere Rovers, later stints with Rhyl, Wigan Rovers, Mossley and Winsford United then followed.

Gaskell retired from playing in 1962 after sustaining a broken wrist at Winsford and later worked for a cable manufacturer in his native Lancashire.

Alec's death was reported in March 2014.

48 hours after kicking off their Isle of Man Cup games with a 2-3 loss to Leicester City, United were beaten again to be eliminated from the tournament.

An injury crisis that left Billy Whitehurst, Martin Thomas, Tony Cunningham, Paul Gascoigne, David McCreery and Jeff Clarke worsened when
Glenn Roeder limped off with a groin strain.

With none of the named substitutes fit enough to replace him, physio Derek Wright came on to partner Joe Allon up front.

Portsmouth's victory over Blackburn Rovers made Newcastle's victory meaningless and they were eliminated.

Roy Aitken was on the scoresheet, while Mark Stimson, Neil Simpson and Billy Askew also appeared for the visitors.

That quarter had been told their first team careers were over at United, and were all keeping fit while searching for new clubs.

United began a three match tour of Asia with victory in Bangkok, but as much attention was devoted to the aftershocks from news of the signing of centre forward Alan Shearer.

Team: Srnicek, Howey, D.Peacock, Albert, Watson, Ginola (Gillespie 58), Lee, Batty, Beardsley, Asprilla, Ferdinand.

Ahead of the game, a statesman-like Kevin Keegan had commented:

"This signing is for the people of Newcastle. It just shows you the ambition of Newcastle United. We are the biggest thinking team in Europe now.

"We're not the biggest, most successful team, but we're the biggest thinking club and we have tremendous support from above which allows me to buy players.

"Alan will not be joining us here. Tell the Thai team they just have to worry about Ferdinand, Beardsley and Asprilla.

"I have signed Alan to play alongside Les Ferdinand and I am convinced they will be the most potent strike force anywhere. I see the signing of Alan Shearer as just reward for our fans.

"Like everyone else, I am ecstatic with this signing - I think it shows our ambition. Now we have signed the best for the best."

2004 It looked less and less likely that Newcastle's Jonathan Woodgate would be available for the Premiership opener in his home town of Middlesbrough.

The central defender was sent for a scan to try and identify the cause of his latest problem, apparently sustained in training.

2006 Sol Campbell was heavily linked with a move to the North-East after his contract at Arsenal had expired. However, the central defender ended up at Portsmouth.

Four years later Campbell would complete a move to Tyneside after a brief stint with Notts County and a return to Arsenal for the second half of the 2009/10 season.

2010 Reserve coaching duo Peter Beardsley and Steve Stone enjoyed a 3-0 debut victory against Gateshead.

Nile Ranger, Haris Vuckic and an own goal from Callum Morris completed the scoring at the International Stadium - Morris on trial with the Tynesiders just weeks after his release by Newcastle.
