2025/26:
NUST ticket update

From Newcastle United Supporters Trust, Monday:

We have been in communication with the club regarding the blocking of NUFC member accounts trying to purchase tickets in the Nottingham Forest resale on Monday.

The club have confirmed they are trying to make a concerted effort to prevent tickets from reaching third party sites. To ensure genuine fans are accessing tickets they have rules in place that flag up and identify suspicious online behaviour.

Flagged accounts have ticket purchase permissions restricted.

To avoid being flagged as a suspicious account in the future fans should:

Log in once, with one supporter number on one device only

Don’t use the same supporter number to try and buy tickets on multiple different devices

Anyone who has been in touch with the club should now have had the block removed so they will now be able to purchase for tomorrow’s members sale.

If you experience any issues or have further questions, please email [email protected]

2025/26:

Home members have until Noon on Tuesday to enter the ballot, with member sale from Monday September 15th.

Internationals:
Tonali on target

National service for our lot:

Seniors:

Sandro Tonali (Italy):
Mon 08.09.2025 Israel (n) won 5-4 WCQ
The midfielder kept his place in the side at the neutral venue of Debrecen in Hungary, hitting the winning goal just on 90 minutes with a low shot from outside the area.

Fri 05.09.2025 Estonia (h) won 5-0 WCQ
Tonali started in Bergamo and completed 76 minutes.

Anthony Elanga, Emil Krafth (Sweden):
Mon 08.09.2025 Kosovo (a) lost 0-2 WCQ
A damaging night in Pristina, with Elanga continuing up front but coming off on 72 minutes with his side trailing 0-2. He made way for Alexander Isak but his lack of match fitness meant that the final score remained unchanged.

Krafth was introduced midway through the second half.

Fri 05.09.2025 Slovenia (a) drew 2-2 WCQ
Elanga started in Ljubljana and gave Sweden an 18th minute lead after a strong run and finish - his fifth senior international goal. He was replaced in the 63rd minute.

Krafth was among the unused replacements.

William Osula (Denmark):

Mon 08.09.2025 Greece (a) won 3-0 WCQ
The striker was an unused substitute in Piraeus.

Fri 05.09.2025 Scotland (h) drew 0-0 WCQ
Following a maiden senior call-up, the striker was named on the bench and that's where he remained.

Odysseas Vlachodimos (Greece):
Mon 08.09.2025 Denmark (h) lost 0-3 WCQ
The goalkeeper remained unused in Piraeus.

Fri 05.09.2025 Belarus (h) won 5-1 WCQ
The goalkeeper wasn't called upon in Piraeus.

Nick Woltemade (Germany):
Sun 07.09.2025 Northern Ireland (h) won 3-1 WCQ
Woltemade kept his starting place in Cologne to win his fourth cap and provided the through ball for Germany's opener. He was withdrawn after an hour to a mixed reception when the score stood at 1-1.

Thu 04.09.2025 Slovakia (a) lost 0-2 WCQ
A 90 minute shift for the new Magpie in Bratislava, but he had no chances to prevent SJP old boy Martin Dubravka from posting a clean sheet - the back four in front of him including ex-NUFC reserve Lubo Satka.

Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento (England):

Tue 09.09.2025 Serbia (a) Belgrade WCQ

Sat 06.09.2025 Andorra (h) won 2-0 WCQ
Dan Burn started while both Gordon and Livramento came off the bench midway through the second half. Whitley Bay's own Elliot Anderson won his first senior cap.

Bruno Guimaraes (Brazil):
Wed 10.09.2025 Bolivia (a) El Alto WCQ

Fri 05.09.2025 Chile (h) won 3-0 WCQ
Bruno assisted in and scored his side's third goal from point blank range in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium.

The Magpie captain earning rave reviews from the Brazilian media for his 90 minute display. We make that his 36th full cap and only his second goal - the other coming against Bolivia in La Paz back in 2022. See his goal online here

Yoane Wissa (DR Congo):
Tue 09.09.2025 Senegal (h) Kinshasha WCQ

Fri 05.09.2025 South Sudan (a) won 4-1 WCQ
United's latest recruit completed 62 minutes in Juba, providing an assist for his side's third goal before adding the fourth - a seventh international strike on his 34th outing.

Youth:

Lewis Miley (England U21s):

Mon 08.09.2025 Kazakhstan (a) won 2-0 ECQ
A 76 minute shift for the midfielder in Almaty.

Leo Shahar (England U19s):
Tue 09.09.2025 Netherlands (n) Pinatar FR

Sat 06.09.2025 Spain (a) drew 3-3 FR
A first U19 start for Leo at England's base in Spain.

Wed 03.09.2025 Ukraine (n) won 2-0 FR
The scoring was complete when the Newcastle full back came off the bench in Pinatar on 70 minutes for his debut at this level.

Sam Alabi, Roman Dowell, George Mair (England U17s):

Tue 09.09.2025 Germany (a) Duisburg FR

Sat 06.09.2025 Israel (n) won 2-1 FR
All three young Magpies began on the bench in Duisburg, with Sam introduced on the hour when England led 1-0.

Wed 03.09.2025 Venezuela (n) won 2-1 FR
With Sam captaining the side and George in goal, England won a game marred by accusations of racist comments made by opposition players. Fellow custodian Roman was among the unused replacements in Duisburg.

Oliver Goodbrand (Scotland U17s):

Sat 06.09.2025 Portugal (a) won 3-2 FR
Victory in Porto was achieved as the Newcastle forward began among the replacements.

The Newcastle forward captained his side in Porto.

Rory Finneran (Ireland U17s):

Sun 07.09.2025 Turkey (n) won 3-0 FR
A winning conclusion to Ireland's time in Prague, with Finneran returning to the starting line-up.

Fri 05.09.2025 Switzerland (n) lost 0-3 FR
The midfielder remained on the bench in Prague.

Wed 03.09.2025 Czechia (a) lost 1-2 Prague FR
Wearing the captain's armband, Rory completed the first half, taking his leave with Ireland leading 1-0.

Alex Murphy (Ireland U21s):
Tue 09.09.2025 Andorra (h) Dublin ECQ

Thu 04.09.2025 Moldova (a) won 2-1 ECQ
Success for the Irish in Nisporeni but the Newcastle defender remained unused on the bench.

Vakhtang Salia was omitted from the Georgia U21 squad due to injury. The player completed a move from Dinamo Tbilisi to Newcastle on his 18th birthday last month.

Premier League:
Wolves (h)

Following draws at Aston Villa and Leeds United and a home defeat to Liverpool, Newcastle go searching for their first win over the season on Saturday when Wolves visit Tyneside in the Premier League.

It's an old-fashioned, non-televised 3pm KO at SJP.

Team: Jacob Ramsey and Joelinton are early doubts.

Anthony Gordon serves the second of his three game domestic ban. He'll be available against Barcelona in the Champions League before completing his suspension against Bournemouth in the PL and then returning for selection against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 4/9
The draw 18/5
WWFC win 6/1

New customers receive a £20 bet when staking £5 (T's & C's apply). Find those markets online here

WWFC:
Resisting interest from Newcastle in Norwegian international forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, coach Vitor Pereira added Nigerian international striker Tolu Arokodare to his squad from Belgian side Genk.

He was on target in Saturday's 1-0 win over Rwanda.

So far this season, Wolves are pointless and bottom of the table after a 0-4 home loss to Manchester City, 0-1 defeat at Bournemouth a 2-3 reverse to Everton at Molineux.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh - the Lancastrian whistler takes charge of his first Newcastle game this season. His most recent appointment was for the 4-1 home howking of Manchester United back in April.

New CEO

NUFC interview here

NUFC feature here

2021 interview here

2019 interview here

Earlier: NUFC confirmed on Thursday that their search for a CEO had ended with the installation of Toronto-born 54 year-old, David "Hoppy" Hopkinson:

Newcastle United are delighted to announce the appointment of David Hopkinson as the club's new Chief Executive Officer.

David officially joins the club on Friday, 5th September and will undertake a comprehensive handover process supported by outgoing CEO Darren Eales, who steps down from the position for health reasons.

David brings more than 25 years of senior executive leadership and commercial expertise across three countries, delivering results for some of the world's most iconic and valuable sporting organisations.

David joins Newcastle United after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer at Madison Square Garden Sports in the United States, where he led the business operations of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

Both are among the most valuable franchises in the National Basketball Association and National Hockey League respectively, and compete at the world-renowned Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Previously, as Global Head of Partnerships at Real Madrid, David served on the executive team as they cemented their place as one of the world's most valuable football clubs.

Earlier, he spent over two decades at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment as Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing commercial activities for the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the NBA's Toronto Raptors.

David said: "I am incredibly honoured to join Newcastle United at such an exciting time in the club's history.

"This club represents something truly special. It has extraordinary history and heritage, incredibly passionate supporters, and ownership, players and staff who are committed to excellence.

"Having worked with iconic teams across different countries, I understand what it takes to build sustainable success at the highest levels of global sport.

"I greatly admire what has been achieved by the club so far, and I am excited and motivated by what is ahead as we strive to position Newcastle United among the world's elite clubs."

Newcastle United chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, said: "We are delighted to welcome David to Newcastle United.

"David is an outstanding executive whose track record across global sport and entertainment speaks for itself.

"His experience and strategic capabilities will be invaluable as we continue to build on the club's presence locally and grow it globally on and off the pitch.

"David's leadership will be critical as we build upon what we have already achieved since the acquisition towards an exciting future and sustainable success.

"I would like to personally thank Darren Eales for his exceptional work and leadership, as well as his friendship, over the last three years."

Director Jamie Reuben added: "David's arrival as CEO comes at a crucial time for the club and I am confident that he will prove to be an excellent fit for the role.

"He brings a wealth of experience in leadership positions at some of the biggest names in world sport, with an incredibly strong foundation to build upon."

Belated confirmation that United's Premier League visit to Bournemouth has been rescheduled as a reflection of their Champions League fixtures has now appeared.

The Magpies will visit the Vitality Stadium for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday September 21st, live on Sky Sports.

The club say that unsuccessful ballot members will be contacted by them and offered any returned tickets.

PS: For anyone used to using Pokesdown* station for this game, Sunday engineering work affects trains using that route but Bournemouth services are unaffected.

Ex-Mag:
Barrie Thomas RIP

The death of former Magpie Barrie Thomas has been announced, at the age of 88.

Barrie was a centre forward who worked down the mines before signing for Leicester City, only for national service to halt his progress.

Joining Mansfield Town before moving on to Scunthorpe United in 1959, Thomas was top scorer in the Football League with 30 goals in 22 games when fellow Second Division side Newcastle bid a record £45,000 for him in early 1962.

The Iron opted to cash in and a deal was concluded with John McGuigan also moving from Gallowgate to the Old Showground - while both Leeds United and Manchester United made their interest known.

Debuting in a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at St. James' Park, Thomas first found the net in his third game - away at Swansea - and Walter Winterbottom quickly called him up to an England training session, although he failed to make the 1962 World Cup squad.

However, his time at SJP was blighted by injury and criticism from some fans and colleagues and while netting hat tricks against Boro, Plymouth and Rotherham, he failed to fire his side to promotion.

Losing his place to Ron McGarry, Barrie reluctantly returned to Scunthorpe early in 1964. His scoring touch remained despite fitness issues and as Newcastle were celebrating promotion the following May, he netted five as the Iron beat Luton Town 8-1.

Injury ended his playing career at Barnsley, after which he had a spell managing local non-league side Measham Swifts.

Update:
Mitro makes his move

Former Magpie Aleksander Mitrovic is reported to have turned down the chance of a return to European club football after securing his exit from Saudi side Al Hilal.

The 30 year-old Serbian forward has instead joined Qatar Stars League side Al-Rayyan on a free transfer.

2025/26:
Fixture updates

Here's our take on future PL changes - all still tbc:

Arsenal (h) remains on Sunday September 28th as both ourselves and the Gunners play in the CL on the following Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest (h) was moved to Sunday October 5th as the Tricky Trees play in the Europa2">Brighton (a) remains on Saturday October 18th as we play the Benfica (h) CL game the following Tuesday.

The November PL TV fixtures are due for release on or by Wednesday September 17th, with the following options:

West Ham (a) could be Saturday November 1st or Sunday November 2nd - the Friday is unlikely as the Carabao Cup Fourth Round is that week. The Monday slot wouldn't work as the Bilbao (h) CL game is the following Wednesday.

Brentford (a) could be Saturday November 8th or Sunday November 9th - the Friday wouldn't work due to the Bilbao (h) CL game the previous Wednesday and there are no Monday games as the international break commences.

Manchester City (h) has to be on Saturday November 22nd* as both ourselves and the Citizens play in the CL on the following Tuesday. *There is a chance of the PL scheduling this for Friday night but not thought likely.

Looking further ahead into 2026:

Aston Villa (h) has to move from Saturday January 24th to Sunday January 25th as the Villans play in the Europa League the previous Thursday. It cannot move to the Monday as we are in CL action the following Wednesday.

Compo winner

Restocked for the new season is the Shearer bucket hat from Football Bobbles, with the 1996/97 change kit colours on one side and black & white on the reverse.

These are available to purchase here in three sizes.

The Tyneside-based company also has a brand-new range of bespoke T-shirts depicting the life and times of Newcastle's 50s hero and FA Cup winner George Robledo.

These are available to purchase here in a bewildering variety of sizes and colours.

The prize in our latest competition was a Shearer bucket hat or a Robledo T-shirt and to stand a chance of winning we asked which former Magpie played for Liverpool the last time we won a PL game against them in 2015.

It was of course James Milner and the winning entry came from Peter Cowell.

The new system is 24/24/48: 24 hours for any ST holders to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to purchase.

Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.

The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above that point division get a couple of hours head start.

Tickets unclaimed by successful applicants within 48 hours are then offered to those unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total. NUFC contact those applicants directly.

Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are gone.

2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.

On This Day in History
8th September

Born Or Died:

1905 Joseph Cassidy Devine born, Motherwell, Scotland. (1930-31)

Inside forward Joe had an introduction to league football with Burnley, joining from Scottish side Bathgate in 1925.

Signing for United in a £5,000 deal, Devine scored a priceless goal to beat West Ham 1-0 at SJP in May 1930 and ensure that the Magpies avoided relegation to Division Two.

However, he quickly moved on to our wearside rivals - scoring a consolation goal for the red & whites in a 4-1 Newcastle victory at Roker Park in November 1931.

Joe later appeared in the colours of Queens Park Rangers, Birmingham and Chesterfield, sustaining a broken leg whilst playing for the Spireites against Spurs in an FA Cup tie in February 1938.

Devine joined the Saltergate coaching staff and remained with the club until 1950. Later running a pub in the Chesterfield area, his death was recorded in 1980.

1957 Alan Guy born, Jarrow. (1975-79)

Striker who debuted in a League Cup tie away to Gillingham in September 1976 and was promoted from the reserves just six times after over the next  three seasons.

After a loan spell with Shrewsbury Town, Alan joined Peterborough United in 1979 - along with Tony Smith - and scored twice on his Posh debut.

Later featuring for Kettering Town, Alan returned to live on Tyneside but knee and spinal problems that cut short his playing career sadly left him wheelchair-bound.

1969 Gary Speed born, Mancot, Wales.
(1998-2004)

Welsh international midfielder who played for Chester City as a youngster and was also a cricketer at Welsh Schoolboy level.

Beginning his career with Leeds United, Speed won a Championship medal at Elland Road before moving on to Everton in 1996.

After a falling-out with Toffees boss Howard Kendall (resulting in some terrace abuse) February 1998 saw him arrive at SJP in a £5.5m deal and he debuted in a 1-0 home defeat by West Ham that same month.

His first Magpies goal came in a 3-1 FA Cup Quarter Final victory over Barnsley at SJP and Speed would go on to feature in two successive final defeats at Wembley - and the semi-final loss there in 2000.

Serving the Magpies for five seasons under messrs Dalglish, Gullit and Robson, Speed was declared surplus to requirements after a pre-season tour of the Far East in 2004.

His final act was scoring a penalty in a shootout to win some meaningless trophy in Hong Kong and then throwing his medal into the stand housing the Newcastle fans.

With Nicky Butt arriving from Old Trafford soon after, Speed made a £750K switch to Sam Allardyce's Bolton Wanderers.

Appearing against United at the Reebok that October, Speed helped the Trotters to a 2-1 victory against a Newcastle side by then managed by Graeme Souness. And by the season's end Bolton were sixth and into Europe, eight places ahead of the Magpies.

Returning to SJP to play for United in Alan Shearer's testimonial, Gary became a player/coach role at Bolton ahead of the 2007/08 season, after Allardyce replaced Glenn Roeder at Newcastle.

Relinquishing that role, he moved on to Sheffield United on loan and made his Blades debut at Wolves on New Years Day 2008.

However, a back injury saw him unable to continue playing after November 2008 and he moved on to the Blades coaching staff - ending a 20 year career in which Speed played some 840 competitive matches.

And following the dismissal of manager Kevin Blackwell in August 2010, Speed took charge at Bramall Lane - bringing in former Magpie coach John Carver as his assistant.

But by December 2010 Gary was asked by the Welsh FA to take over as national team boss and he left Bramall Lane after just four months. Carver also departed and found his way back to SJP to work with Alan Pardew.

Earlier in 2010 Speed had been honoured with an MBE for services to football and also completed the London Marathon, raising funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

When asked about his choice of charity, Speed commented that:

"I had seven years at Newcastle United and Bobby did loads for me both as a footballer and a human being."

The football world was stunned in November 2011 when news filtered through that Speed had been found dead at his home.

Tributes were paid to the popular midfielder at grounds across the country in the days and weeks that followed, particularly at Leeds, Everton, Bolton, Sheffield United and the Welsh teams.

At the request of his wife, his death was marked at St. James' Park some weeks later when Swansea City were the visitors, and despite the delay it was still a very moving and fitting tribute to a well-liked and much missed former player.

The inquest into his death returned a narrative verdict; the coroner unable to be certain that Speed had taken his own life and that it hadn't been an accident.

2004 Lewis Hall born, Slough.
(2023-present)

Following the acquisitions of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento, United dipped into the loan market during August 2023 to sign this left back from Chelsea.

The 18 year-old had come through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge to make his Premier League bow at Gallowgate in November 2022 - first tasting senior football earlier that year in the FA Cup.

Capped by England from U15 to U21 level, Hall was spotted by Chelsea playing for Binfield FC's under eight side.

Agreeing to a season-long switch with an obligation to make the move permanent if certain criteria were met, Lewis revealed himself to be a lifelong Magpies fan whose father was born on Tyneside.

Debuting during the 8-0 PL victory at Sheffield United, his first Magpies goal came away to Manchester United in the League Cup - repeating the feat at Old Trafford for his debut PL strike the following May.

Hall's signing was made permanent in June 2024, winning his first full England cap against Greece five months later.

A foot injury sustained against Liverpool at Anfield the following February ended his season prematurely however and meant that he missed the Carabao Cup Final win - recuperating from surgery at home and unable to travel to Wembley.

Featuring in pre-season a competitive return for Lewis then followed against the Reds during a 2-3 loss at SJP in August 2025.

Hall's elder brother Connor is also a defender, beginning his career at Sheffield United and playing for various lower league and non-league sides.

The hosts were left enraged when Alan Suddick headed in a 13th minute cross from Trevor Hockey, only for the referee to rule that the scorer had impeded Shay Brennan.

Goalkeeper Gordon Marshall then made a gift of a George Best cross that David Herd tapped in to put the reigning champions ahead.

Jim Iley then dwelt on the ball and gifted the visitors a second goal, Denis Law finding a gap between two defenders on the goal line.

And despite strenuous efforts, all the home side had to show was a Stan Anderson cross headed past David Gaskell by Hockey.

This was the first time that Best faced Newcastle in a senior team game, although he'd previously come up against the Magpies in the FA Youth Cup.

A sanguine Joe Harvey commented afterwards that, "the boys gave their utmost, so I can't saw a thing in criticism. If a man does his best he can do no more."

Oh dear. Best forgotten methinks... Not a good day either for the member of the local constabulary who almost started a riot by spitting on Newcastle fans from the front of the home section above. The provocation? He'd instructed a Newcastle fan to turn round and watch the game to which the fan had replied, "This isn't a game, it's a massacre."

Years of humourless coppers treating away fans like scum captured in a nutshell....

Fielding a side of which only Lomana LuaLua and Darren Ambrose had tasted first team action, the Magpies were up against not only Dichio but the in-form Lee Hughes, returning from injury. Albion ran out 3-1 winners. Hughes now has form of a different sort....

2018 Among Magpies on international duty were DeAndre Yedlin and Salomon Rondon, who were both in the USA.
