Carabao Cup:
Magpies v
Cockerels
Newcastle's reward for defeating the Bantams is a
Fourth Round Carabao Cup home tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
That will be played at SJP during the
week commencing Monday October 27th.
Fourth Round draw:
Arsenal v Brighton
Grimsby Town v Brentford
Swansea City v Manchester City
Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur
Wrexham v Cardiff City
Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Wolves v Chelsea
Wycombe Wanderers v Fulham
This is the fourth time that the two sides have been
paired in this competition, United winning the 1975/76 semi-final
on aggregate - losing 0-1 in North London but recovering to triumph
3-1 on Tyneside in the second leg.
The Magpies lost the next meeting 1-2 at Gallowgate in September
2008, before going down 0-4 at White Hart Lane in the most recent pairing
during December 2014.
The draw gives Eddie Howe's side three successive home games in as
many competitions: a Champions League tie against Benfica, the visit
of Fulham in the Premier League and then concluding with the Spurs
League Cup tie.
Thomas Frank's Cockerels by contrast have a trio of away fixtures:
Monaco in the Champions League, Everton in the Premier League and
then Newcastle at St.James' Park.
Frank has defeated Newcastle in this competition before, guiding
Brentford to a 1-0 home success during 2020/21.
Carabao Cup:
Braces beat Bantams
Newcastle 4 Bradford City 1

Newcastle began the defence of their Carabao Cup title on Wednesday with a
comfortable
Third Round victory against League One Bradford City at Gallowgate.
Joelinton and William Osula both scored a goal in each
half, City's sole reply a memorable strike from boyhood Toon fan Andy Cook
that flew past debutant Aaron Ramsdale.
That made it 3-1 with 11 minutes to play, only for Osula's second and United's fourth to
kill off any faint hopes that the Bantams could take the tie
to a penalty shootout.
Eddie Howe fielded a strong side that saw Bruno Guimaraes and
Joelinton return while giving first starts of the season for Emil
Krafth and Ramsdale.
The goalkeeper was called into action in just the
second minute and again when he tipped a deflected Bobby Pointon
shot wide.
Joelinton fired over the bar at the other end and when Anthony's
Gordon shot fell for the Brazilian he supplied a neat finish to put
the Magpies ahead in the 17th minute.
Just two minutes later it was 2-0 when Bruno's precise through ball
was finished calmly by Osula through the legs of goalkeeper Sam
Walker at the Leazes End.
Gordon had a chance on the break before Osula's shot was saved
by Walker's feet after being set up by Anthony Elanga.
Gordon had another shot saved from outside of the box and then Bruno
fired over the bar two minutes before the break as United continued
to make and miss chances.
Joelinton headed wide from close range two minutes into the second
period before Gordon had another shot smothered as both sides looked
for the next crucial goal.
Stephen Humphreys headed straight at Ramsdale when well placed in
the 53rd minute and Bruno's deft flick clipped the top of the goal
frame.
Elanga was next to go close but allowed Walker to make another save
but Osula should have converted a Gordon cross from close range
instead of heading well wide.
Gordon dragged another good chance wide but in the 75th minute the
tie was effectively ended after Bruno found Joelinton in the box and
he got his second of the night.
Bruno looked a certain scorer after a flowing move but was denied by
Walker before Cook seized on a loose ball and fired in off the bar for a memorable moment at his
beloved St. James' Park.
Big Joe then had a chance to complete what would have been the first
treble by a Newcastle player since Craig Bellamy back in 2001, but
was denied by a defender.
Substitute Harvey Barnes hit a volley wide then curled a shot
narrowly past the far post before supplying a
cross for Osula to convert from point blank range with three minutes
remaining.
Bruno almost grabbed a fifth in added time but it ended 4-1 to the
Carabao Cup holders, setting up another home tie against last season's Europa Cup winners.

After the game Eddie Howe said:
"We want to win whatever is put in front of us, and the
attitude stems from us, the coaches, and it should filter down.
"There is no difference between the games; these are
opportunities to win trophies, and you can't just turn them away.
"So, the hard rounds are the early ones. They are very
difficult. Last year, we had to battle through against Wimbledon on
the way to winning it; Bradford was the same. The mentality, you
can't switch off.
"We wanted to win and wanted to score and try to entertain
everybody that came. I thought we did that.
"It was always going to be a difficult game; nobody wants to make
anything easy for you.
"Bradford are top of their league and we needed a bit of
patience in our performance, but once we got into our groove, we
were very good.
"We believe we have a strong squad. We take it on a
game-by-game basis. After Barcelona (on Thursday), it was a
case of who we felt would be fatigued going into the Bournemouth
game (on Sunday).
"We created a lot of opportunities, and people impressed, and
that only helps the team win consistently.
"The lads are very aware of the strength in depth, so everyone in
their position will be looking over their shoulder going, 'If I
don't play well today, there's someone else waiting to take my
shirt'."
On William Osula:
"It was a slightly turbulent end to the transfer window
for Will. Slowly but surely he is improving his game. It wasn't just
his goals tonight, it was his hold-up play, his wing play.
"He's done his chances (of Premier League pitch time) no
harm.
"He's very driven. Will has got great attitude to his work and his
career. He's very ambitious, he wants to play as all players do, but
he is now justifying that by his training performances and when he
plays on the pitch.
"We have done a lot of work with him and will continue to do
that for his benefit to try to get him to be the very best player he
can be."

Yorkshire-based official who made his Championship officiating debut in

Stats:
Joelinton's brace moved him on to
six League Cup goals, one behind Alan Gowling and Alan Shearer (and
OGs).
Ahead of them lie Shola Ameobi and Andy Cole with eight and Malcolm
Macdonald on 12.
The Brazilian hadn't found the net for the Magpies since December
2024, when he struck in a 2-0 Premier League victory over
Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Joelinton now has 31 goals in a Newcastle shirt; 22 in
the Premier League, six in the Carabao Cup, two in the FA Cup and
one in the Champions League.
Will Osula moved on to five goals for the Magpies in
all competitions; two in the PL, two in the CC and one in the FAC.
All five came at SJP.

Rolando returns
Former Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons is back in football, after
agreeing a contract with National League Morecambe.
The 29 year-old has been a free agent since leaving Slovenian side NK Celje

Aarons becomes the third SJP old boy to join the Shrimpers as they seek to
rebuild following a traumatic start to the season and subsequent takeover.

U19s narrow defeat
Newcastle U19s 2 Barcelona U19s 3
Newcastle's U19 side began their UEFA U19 Youth League fixtures on Thursday
afternoon with
the toughest possible test - that of facing defending champions Barcelona.
And after conceding three times in the first half, the youngsters fought
back with two goals of their own and came close to levelling in added time.
The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute when a low centre from the
left side of the box by Oscar Gistau was knocked in by Xavi Espart.
Magpies 'keeper George Mair made a good parry to deny Gistau in the 36th
minute but Barca extended their lead a minute before the break when Gistau
was left unattended and scooped a first time shot home.
That soon became 0-3 in the third minute of first half added time as Gistau
got his second when he sent a poor clearance back over the head of Mair from
30 yards out.
The young Magpies got one back six minutes into the second period when they
were awarded a free-kick just outside the box and it was played short to
Leo Shahar who finished well.
United pulled another goal back in the 81st minute when substitute Kacey
Wooster burst into the box and netted with a low effort.
The comeback was almost complete in the fourth and final minute of added time but Sean Neave headed wide.
Team: Mair, Bailey, Charlton, Fitzgerald (Waddani 69), Munda (Seung-soo

The new system is 24/24/48: 24
hours for any ST holders to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
purchase.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log
on and complete your purchase regardless.
Tickets unclaimed by successful applicants within 48 hours are then offered
to those unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total.
NUFC contact those applicants directly.
Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are
gone.
2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.
2025/26 CL away tickets

Born Or Died:
1877 Thomas Bruce Niblo born,
Dunfermline. (1898-1902 & 1907-08)
Forward who began his career with
Hamilton Academical and moved to SJP from now-
defunct Scottish League side Linthouse.
Making his debut in a 1-0 away win at Loughborough
Town in April 1898 and was a regular starter the
following season.
Losing his place in the team during the 1901/02
campaign, a transfer taking Tom to Middlesbrough
was agreed but turned out to be a loan rather than
a permanent deal.
Moving on instead to Aston Villa (where he won a
Scottish cap against England), Nottingham Forest
and Watford, a second stint on Tyneside came in
1907 - although he never appeared for the first
team.
Subsequently playing for both
Aberdeen and Raith Rovers back in his native
Scotland, Niblo was injured while fighting in WW1 and died
in 1933.
1933 John Nesbitt born,
Washington.
(1955-59)
Defender and former Coldstream
Guardsman who was signed from South Shields in
December 1955.
John's senior debut came 24 hours
after his 24th birthday in September 1957, when he
deputised for Bob Stokoe in a 0-0 home draw
against Sheffield Wednesday.
Two further first team outings followed that
season - a 3-2 win at Arsenal and 0-3 reverse at
Leeds - before he moved on, joining non-league
side Horden CW.
1947
James Curran born, Macclesfield
(1964-66)
Goalkeeper
who was on the books of Manchester United as a
youngster, but was restricted to junior and
reserve team outings before moving on to
Newcastle.
Failing to make a first team appearance at
Gallowgate. Jimmy joined Crewe Alexandra and had
later spells at both Oldham Athletic and Witton
Albion.
Returning to Old Trafford as a youth coach in
1974, Curran served the Red Devils for the next 28
years as a physiotherapist.
1966 Franz Carr born, Preston
(1991-93)
Ooh ah indeed - a winger who could
run like the wind and show good ball skills, but
unfortunately for him (and us) only very
occasionally in the same passage of play....
Having been spotted by Blackburn Rovers scout Fred
O'Donoghue as a schoolboy, Carr moved on to
Nottingham Forest and was capped by England U21s.
However, he found himself out of favour and loaned
to Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham before being
brought to SJP by Ossie Ardiles at a cost of £250K
in May 1991.
Carr scored on his Magpies debut at Upton Park
against then-tenants Charlton Athletic, although
we lost that season opener 1-2.
The end for Carr at United came in January 1993
when Kevin Keegan allowed him to join Sheffield
United on loan - a move that was made permanent
three months later.
Later spells with Leicester City, Aston Villa,
Italian side Reggiana, Bolton and West Brom then
followed before Carr tried his hand in the USA
with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
He later lived in Nottingham and
working as a player's agent, making an appearance
pitchside at Newcastle's Carabao Cup visit to the
City Ground in 2024.
1994 Lewis Aird born,
Newcastle.
(2011-14)
Defender who began playing as a
schoolboy for Newcastle at the age of 12, joining
from Walker Central.
Accepted into United's Academy ahead of the
2011/12 season, Lewis was part of a young Magpies
Reserve XI who won 2-1 at Berwick Rangers in July
2011.
However, medial and cruciate knee ligament
injuries sustained delayed his U18 debut and
sidelined Aird for a year - his 18th birthday
coinciding with a return to training.
Featuring just once from the bench for the second
string during the
following season, Lewis was loaned to Team
Northumbria.
Following his release by United, he accepted a
scholarship at Northeastern University in Boston,
USA, playing for their Huskies side while studying Physiotherapy.

something of a friendly invasion.
Half time hero was Brian Kilcline, clad in a pair of

2009 Aston Villa confirmed that their unwanted

Chris
Hughton told reporters that he was:
"Delighted to have him on board, he brings with him
both physical presence and experience, which is what we're
looking for at the moment.
"Hopefully he will give us more options, which we
need with Shola Ameobi still injured for the foreseeable

three-game winning run came to a halt as they visited the
