City slicker
Newcastle U18s 1
Stoke City U21s 3
A below-par performance from United's youngsters
at Little Benton on Saturday morning saw them slip to their first
defeat of the season.
Both sides struggled to make headway in breezy conditions before the
visitors were gifted an opening goal in the 32nd minute, goalkeeper
George Mair's misdirected clearance falling to Jamal Khan who
supplied an accurate finish.
Stoke then twice came close to extending their advantage before the
interval; Elliot Fearn's ball from the right wing glancing off the
far post on 34 minutes and Pedro Nzau firing against the goal frame
ten minutes later.
The Potters doubled their lead 12 minutes into the second period
when striker Jayden Ogbebor met Fearn's cross and planted his
first-time effort into the net.
A third away goal followed within 60 seconds after United were
bullied out of possession deep in their own half, the unmarked Ryan Liu left with a routine finish.
Having lost striker Kacey Wooster and winger Mo Waddani to U21 duty
the previous evening, Newcastle struggled to make any headway in the
final third of the field.
15 year-old prospect Alfie Seldon did get one back with a run and
shot on 72 minutes for his second goal in as many games, but Stoke
were never in danger of surrendering the points despite picking up a
red card during time added on - the third successive fixture they've
finished with ten men.
Team: Mair, Bloomer, Goodbrand (Durrant 59), Epia, Johnson,
Miley (Cogdon 59), Alabi, Taylor (Pinnington 54), Hutchison,
O'Donovan (Moran 74), Seldon.
Sub n/u: Dowell.

Publishing comes from Magpies club historian Paul Joannou, who has
penned the definitive biography of United icon, Bill McCracken.

The Belfast-born defender served Newcastle for 15 seasons,
winning three titles and one FA Cup while generating headlines
worldwide for his revolutionary offside tactic.
Bill's life in football then extended for over half a century in
managerial and scouting roles, included that of transfer advisor to
Magpies supremo Stan Seymour in the 1950s.

Eddie Howe's side host the Gunners on Sunday in a
4.30pm kick-off that is live on Sky Sports.
Newcastle go in search of a third successive victory and clean sheet over
Arsenal at Gallowgate, something they haven't achieved since 1996.
The two sides have already met this season in a kickabout staged in
Singapore, the North London side winning by the odd goal in three.
Hat sellers Football Bobbles will have a stall
outside the Trent House pub from 2pm. Card payments accepted.
Team:
Jacob Ramsey and Yoane Wissa are both injured, while concussion
protocols may rule Fabian Schar out.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Eddie Howe admitted that there was a
slight doubt over Jacob Murphy's availability.

Reading U21s 1 Newcastle U21s 1
The U21s extended their winless start to the season to five games on
Friday night, but returned from Berkshire with a point thanks to a
first Newcastle goal from Miodrag Pivas.
The Serbian defender had been on the field for barely 15 minutes
when he struck to level the scores at the
Select Car Leasing Stadium (formerly The Madejski Stadium).
The Royals had gone ahead through midfielder Jacob Borgnis in the
16th minute.
Both sides were reduced to ten men before Pivas netted; Reading's
John Ryan given a straight red after 65 minutes and United's Sean Neave shown his
second yellow for his part in the incident.

Carabao Cup:
Magpies v
Cockerels
Newcastle's reward for defeating the Bantams is a
Fourth Round Carabao Cup home tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
That will be played at St. James' Park during the
week commencing Monday October 27th.
Season ticket holders signed up to the cup scheme will be charged £20 or £25
depending on seat location, with monies taken seven days after the fixture date
is confirmed.
Fourth Round draw:
Arsenal v Brighton
Grimsby Town v Brentford
Swansea City v Manchester City
Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur
Wrexham v Cardiff City
Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Wolves v Chelsea
Wycombe Wanderers v Fulham
This is the fourth time that the two sides have been
paired in this competition, United winning the 1975/76 semi-final
on aggregate - losing 0-1 in North London but recovering to triumph
3-1 on Tyneside in the second leg.
The Magpies lost the next meeting 1-2 at Gallowgate in September
2008, before going down 0-4 at White Hart Lane in the most recent pairing
during December 2014.
The draw gives Eddie Howe's side three successive home games in as
many competitions: a Champions League tie against Benfica, the visit
of Fulham in the Premier League and then concluding with the Spurs
League Cup tie.
Thomas Frank's Cockerels by contrast have a trio of away fixtures:
Monaco in the Champions League, Everton in the Premier League and
then Newcastle at SJP.
Frank has defeated Newcastle in this competition before, guiding
Brentford to a 1-0 home success during 2020/21.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log
on and complete your purchase regardless.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants within 48 hours are offered
to unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total. NUFC contact them directly.
Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are

2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.

Born Or Died:
1916 Death of Charles Randall, 32.
(1908-11)
Serving in the Coldstream Guards, Charles was killed during the Battle
of Somme. He's buried at nearby Dantzig Alley Cemetery.

1979 Jordan Tait born, Berwick-upon-Tweed
(1996-99)

Academy defender who was part of the Newcastle side that won the
Northern Intermediate title in 1998.
Released a year later, Jordan signed for second tier Norwich City after impressing
in a trial match for their reserves.
Joining Oldham Athletic in 1999 and making his senior competitive bow in a
League Cup tie that August, Tait had moved on to play for Darlington by the
following season - initially on loan.
2001 saw him at Arbroath and he later played for Ross County, Ayr United, St.Johnstone,
Berwick Rangers, Stenhousemuir and Scottish Junior club Arthurlie.
Combining playing with youth coaching at several clubs, Tait also worked for
the Scottish FA and served as a police officer.
Later coaching at Ottowa South United Soccer Club in Canada and Finnish side
Kemi Kings, by 2018 Jordan had joined the staff at Middlesbrough's Academy.
1986 Craig Baxter born, Newcastle.
(2003-06)

Right back who graduated from United's Academy into the reserve
side, debuting against Notts County at Meadow Lane in February 2004.
Released by the Magpies in 2006, Craig moved over the
Tyne to Gateshead, becoming an integral part of the team and facing
his former club in numerous friendlies.
Released in 2012, Craig joined Northern League Bedlington Terriers before
returning to the International Stadium a year later.
2016 then saw him exit the Tynesiders in favour of South Shields, remaining
there until signing for Dunston UTS in 2021.
1987 Michael Terrell born, Gateshead.
(2003-06)

Midfielder who joined United following his release by the
smoggies.
Appearing at Academy and Reserve level, Michael's only second string goal came
in a 3-0 home victory over Boro in March 2006.
Released by United in 2006, he later won a soccer scholarship at the
University of The Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, USA (nicknamed "The
Cardinals").
Remaining at the university as a coach, Michael later took up a similar
position at Albion Hurricanes FC in Houston.

John Gallacher then levelled with his fourth Newcastle

A fourth consecutive league defeat (and fifth in all

boss Joe Kinnear.
Farcically though he was
forced to watch from the stands - serving the first of a
two-match touchline ban outstanding from 2004.
JFK still managed to get himself in hot water, swearing

Football Focus:
"He's the one who's cleared the debts, he's the one
who's put the money in. He's the one who's got Newcastle
out of the s***."
Awful defending and a non-existent offside call saw United
0-2 down before rookie Rovers 'keeper Jason Brown had dirtied

And
although Michael Owen won and then converted a penalty
shortly after the restart, salvaging a point never
looked likely
