Premier League:
TV times - derby day
Wednesday saw the Premier League announce
some changes to the December fixture list, with three Newcastle games
rescheduled for TV as follows:
Tue 02.12.2025 Spurs (h) 8.15pm Sky
Sat 06.12.2025 Burnley (h) 3pm (no live TV)
Sun 14.12.2025 mackems (a) 2pm Sky
Sat 20.12.2025 Chelsea (h) 12.30pm TNT
Although fixtures up to the end of January were due on Wednesday, only those
up to Mon 22.12.2025 appeared. There's no word on when the remainder will be
released, leaving seven Newcastle games still subject to change:
Sat 27.12.2025 tbc Manchester United (a)
Tue 30.12.2025 tbc Burnley (a)
Sat 03.01.2026 tbc Crystal Palace (h)
Wed 07.01.2026 tbc Leeds United (h)
Sat 17.01.2026 tbc Wolves (a)
Sat 24.01.2026 tbc Aston Villa (h)*
Sat 31.01.2026 tbc Liverpool (a)
The initial fixture release in June didn't list any games on either December 26th
or January 1st, but the PL's only "blackout" days are December 24th
and 25th.
On that basis, some PL fixtures are liable to be played on both Boxing Day
and New Years Day.
* Aston Villa's visit to SJP will move from Sat 24.01.2026 due to
their Europa League tie on Thu 22.01.2026.

U21s:
Stag party!
Mansfield Town 2 Newcastle U21s 2 (3-5 pens)

Newcastle U21s dramatically collected their first EFL
Trophy points of the season at the One Call Stadium on Wednesday
night, scoring an added time equaliser before triumphing in the
penalty shootout that followed to claim an extra point.
Sean Neave, Sam Alabi, Joe Brayson, Park Seung-soo and Charlie
McArthur all then held their nerve from 12 yards.
Shootout:
Neave scores 1-0
McLaughlin scores 1-1
Alabi scores 2-1
Dwyer misses 2-1
Brayson scores 3-1
Moriah-Welsh scores 3-2
Seung-soo scores 4-2
Lewis scores 4-3
McArthur scores 5-3
The Magpies conclude their group stage ties with a visit to
Harrogate Town next month, the North Yorkshire side already assured
of progress to the last 32.
Clad in their green change strip, United took a fourth minute lead
when Sean Neave's run and shot was deflected out for a corner. That
wasn't cleared properly and Cathal Heffernan side-footed in
from close range.
That prompted an immediate response from the League One hosts and
visiting goalkeeper James Taylor was twice called into action before
Max Dickov's curling effort beat him to level the scores in the 24th
minute.
Level at the break, the second half saw Mansfield continue to
dominate, a rare breakaway by United after 65 minutes ending with
Owen Mason denying Park Seung-soo.
That Stags pressure told two minutes later though; newly arrived
substitute Aaron Lewis sending over a corner from the right that
Finn Flannigan headed home.
Late drama in the second of five added minutes then saw the Magpies
unexpectedly level against the run of play.
Sean Neave and Park combined for Charlie McArthur to send the ball
in, Ollie Taylor touching it into his own net and taking the tie to
penalties.
Team: Taylor, C.Thompson, Heffernan, McArthur, Pivas, Bailey
(Waddani 84), Munda, Al.Harrison (Brayson 84), Seung-soo, Wooster (Alabi
59), Neave. Subs n/u: Ad.Harrison, Charlton, Harper, Watts
Booked: Taylor, McArthur
MTFC: Mason, Sweeney, Akins (Lewis 64), Bowery (Blake-Tracy
68), Maris (Moriah-Welsh 64), Dwyer, Dickov, McAdam, Gardner
(McLaughlin 79), Flanagan (Taylor 79), Anderson. Subs n/u:
Roberts, McLaughlin, Kokkinos.
Booked: Bowery
Referee: Matt Corlett
Crowd: 1,180 including 88 in the away end.
This was United's third visit to what was formerly known as
Field Mill in this competition, the Stags running out 6-3 winners in
2021 and registering a 3-0 success in 2024.

Internationals:
Wissa complication
Following the final round of World Cup qualifiers involving
African nations this week, the four sides contesting the play-off
tournament next month are now confirmed - and one of them is DR
Congo.
Assuming he's fit by then, Newcastle's Yoane Wissa would be in
contention for selection when The Leopards travel to Morocco during
the November international break.
Semi-finals are set for November 13th when DR Congo play Cameroon,
with the winners of that facing either Gabon or Nigeria three days
later.
The winner of that then qualify for a further inter-confederation
qualification tournament involving six teams in USA/Mexico during
next March's international break.
NB: this is all over and above DR Congo's participation in the
African Cup of Nations Final tournament, staged between December
21st and January 18th in Morocco.
Theoretically, players can be called up 14 days in advance, but it's
anticipated this will be delayed until after Premier League fixtures
on and around December 13th.
Whether that could be stretched further to include the Carabao Cup
ties the following midweek remains to seen.
2025/26:
Brighton (a)

Newcastle return to Premier League action on Saturday, when they head to the Amex Stadium - a venue
where they are still to be victorious in the top flight.
Eight previous Premier League visits have ended in five draws and
three home wins.
The Magpies are winless against the Seagulls in the most recent five
league and cup meetings at home and away.
It's an old-fashioned 3pm start, with no live UK TV.
Team:
Jacob Ramsey is expected to return to the squad, but Lewis Hall,
Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa remain unavailable. Lewis Miley is
doubtful.
Fabian Schar remains one game away from a double century of
Premier League appearances, while Joelinton has made 199 starts in
all competitions for United to date. Dan Burn has made 149
league and cup starts for the club.
Coral rate this game as
follows:
NUFC win 17/10
The draw 12/5
BHAFC win 8/5

BHAFC: Solly March, Adam Webster and Jack
Hinshelwood remain out but Joel Veltman and Kaoru Mitoma both should
return to the squad following injury.
Diego Gomez is a fresh doubt after suffering a knock on
international duty.
Matt O'Riley is on loan at Marseille while Igor Julio has made a
temporary switch to West Ham.
Fabian Hurzeler's side are unbeaten on home turf so far this season,
drawing with Fulham (1-1) and Spurs (2-2) and defeating Manchester
City (2-1). Adding in last season, Albion haven't lost at the Amex
in seven PL outings.
SJP old boy James Milner made his 643rd Premier League appearance in
Brighton's last PL fixture at Wolves. That leaves the 39 year-old
ten behind record holder Gareth Barry, who played in 653 PL matches.
As a measure of his longevity, Milner played his very first PL game
in the colours of Leeds United in November 2002, two days before
current Magpie Tino Livramento was born.
Of a rather different vintage is ex-Magpie Yankuba Minteh, who
scored in both of his appearances against United last season - once
in the PL and once in the FA Cup.
Despite online claims about his fitness, the 21 year-old featured
twice for Gambia during the international break.
Referee:
Craig Pawson - second appointment this season involving Newcastle
after the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa.
The South Yorkshire whistler took charge of last season's visit to
Brighton, awarding United no less than three spot kicks, only one of
which survived VAR scrutiny.

Gordon
Current Magpies receiving country calls:

Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn (England):
Tue 14.10.2025 Latvia (a) won 5-0 WCQ
Three points in Riga were enough to secure a place at the World Cup
Finals for Thomas Tuchel's England side.
Anthony Gordon retained his place in the side and netted a solo
opener, cutting in from the left side of the area before steering a
low right footer into the far corner of the net.
Gordon was withdrawn on 71 minutes when the score was 4-0, club
colleague Dan Burn introduced at that point.
Thu 09.10.2025 Wales (h) won 3-0 FR
A 90 minute shift for Gordon at Wembley, beginning on the left flank and
finishing up in a more central position. Fellow Magpie Burn remained
unused on the
bench, available to club and country despite scans confirming a
broken hand.
Sandro Tonali (Italy):
Tue 14.10.2025 Israel (h) won 3-0 WCQ
Another long shift for Sandro as Israel were defeated in Udine,
replaced in second half added time after collecting a yellow card.
Sat 11.10.2025 Estonia (a) won 1-3 WCQ
Victory for the Azzurri in Tallinn, with the Newcastle midfielder
completing the entire game.
Bruno Guimaraes/Joelinton (Brazil):
Tue 14.10.2025 Japan (a) lost 2-3 FR
Another start for Bruno and a precise through ball to register an
assist for his side's opening goal.
Joelinton was
named on the bench in Tokyo, replacing his club colleague in the
57th minute with Brazil leading 2-1.
However the hosts hit back to preserve their home record, Joelinton
squandering the chance to make it 3-3 in the closing seconds of
normal time.
Fri 10.10.2025 South Korea (a) won 5-0 FR
A 79 minute shift in Seoul for Bruno, with his
incisive through ball setting up the opening goal. Club colleague
Joelinton was an unused substitute.
Leo Shahar (England U19s):
Tue 14.10.2025 Wales (n) won 7-0 FR
An emphatic victory in La Quinta, with full back Leo on the field
for the first 67 minutes and withdrawn with his side leading 4-0.
Sat 11.10.2025 Belgium (n) won 4-1 FR
The Newcastle full back was introduced in the 67th minute of
Saturday's victory in Marbella with the scoring complete.
Nick Woltemade (Germany):
Mon 13.10.2025 Northern Ireland (a) won 1-0 WCQ
A first international goal for the Newcastle striker gave his side
victory in Belfast, converting a 31st minute corner kick from close
range with his head and/or arm.
In doing so, Woltemade emulated fellow countryman Didi Hamann, whose
only strike for Germany while a Magpie also came at Windsor Park
back in 1999.
Big Nick was replaced in second half added time.
Fri 10.10.2025 Luxembourg (h) won 4-0 WCQ
A starting spot for the striker in Sinsheim but no maiden
international goal in his 61 minutes of action.
Anthony Elanga (Sweden):
Mon 13.10.2025 Kosovo (h) lost 0-1 WCQ
Another disastrous night for the Swedes, whose chances of World Cup
Final qualification are now almost over, following defeat in Gothenburg.
Elanga was introduced as a half time substitute while former Magpie Jon Dahl Tomasson
was relieved of his position as Sweden coach hours after the loss.
Fri 10.10.2025 Switzerland (h) lost 0-2 WCQ
More woe for Sweden in Stockholm, with Elanga
remaining unused on the bench.
Rory Finneran (Ireland U18s):
Mon 13.10.2025 Switzerland (n) drew 1-1 FR
Rory captained his side to a draw in Pinatar as Ireland concluded
their preparations for next month's U17 World Cup Final tournament
in Qatar.
Sat 11.10.2025 Poland (n) lost 0-2 FR
Defeat in Pinatar for the Irish youngsters with the United
midfielder captaining the side and completing 90 minutes. Poor
weather saw the game held back from the Friday.
Odysseas Vlachodimos (Greece):
Sun 12.10.2025 Denmark (a) lost 1-3 WCQ
Defeat for the Greeks in Copenhagen with Vlachodimos returning to
the starting line-up.
Thu 09.10.2025 Scotland (a) lost 1-3 Hampden WCQ
The goalkeeper was an unused substitute.
Alex Murphy (Ireland U21s):
Fri 10.10.2025 Slovakia (h) drew 2-2 ECQ
The United defender wasn't called into action in Cork.

Inspired by United's distinctive 1997/98 season change kit
and echoing the current change ensemble, these are available online

We had a Lee scarf to give away and asked what was distinctive about Rob
Lee's UEFA Cup hat-trick at Royal Antwerp back in 1994.
Most folks knew that all three goals were headers and the winning
entry came from Paul Johnson (the Bristol one).
Update:
The one where
Ross got hired....

Club statement, Saturday:
Newcastle United are delighted to announce the appointment of
Ross Wilson as the club's Sporting Director.
Ross will be responsible for sporting strategy, development
and recruitment across men's, women's and Academy teams, working
closely with the club's football leadership and executive teams.
He joins from Nottingham Forest, where he served as Chief
Football Officer, after Newcastle United triggered his release. The
terms of his release will remain confidential between the clubs.
Prior to joining Forest in 2023, Ross was Sporting Director at
Glasgow Rangers, helping them to their first league title for ten
years, a Scottish Cup and a place in the UEFA Europa League final.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be here at Newcastle
United. This is such a special club, and I fully understand the
passion, ambition and expectations of our incredible supporters, as
well as the ambition and desire of our ownership to keep developing
and building an even stronger Newcastle United.
"My conversations with ownership have been extremely positive,
and I've also been in regular contact with Eddie Howe and David
Hopkinson. The trust, cohesion and alignment we're building already
feels strong, and we believe that being united as a team will be so
important as we continue to move the club forward together.
"I'm excited to work with everyone across the different areas
within our football department. There's already excellent work being
done here and, from the first team to the women's team and academy,
my aim is to build on that, strengthen our structures over time, and
work with our staff to create environments where players and staff
can continue to thrive."
David Hopkinson, Newcastle United's CEO, said: "I am delighted
to welcome Ross to Newcastle United. His experience and expertise
immediately strengthen us, and his appointment is another important
step forward in our journey.
"Ross has a track record of delivering strategic change. He
has instilled processes and built relationships that have helped his
clubs to win and grow, and he has demonstrated his ability to
enhance talent pathways and integrate women's football into the same
high-performing culture.
"We are looking forward to working with him as we build
towards our ambitions for long-term sustainable success."
The 41 year-old Falkirk native Wilson arrived at the City Ground in 2023 following
Director of Football posts at Huddersfield Town, Southampton and
Rangers.
The Magpies parted company with previous Sporting Director Paul Mitchell
in June, less than a year after he had succeeded Dan Ashworth.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log
on and complete your purchase regardless.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants within 48 hours are offered
to unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total. NUFC contact them directly.
Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are
gone.
2025/26 PL away tickets remain at £30.
2025/26 CL away tickets are €50 or less.

On This Day in History |

15th October |

Born Or Died:
1877 Thomas Wills born, Newton-on-Ayr, Scotland.
(1903-06)

Left back secured from Ayr FC during
November 1903 who made his senior debut in a 3-2 home win
over Bury soon afterwards.
In competition with Jack Carr for a first team place, the
pair were displaced by the arrival of Andy McCombie and Tom
played just twice in the 1904/05 season.
Wills was one of three players moving from Newcastle to
Carlisle United in March 1906, but he signed for Crystal
Palace ahead of the following season.
Lasting less than a year in London, he returned to Carlisle
United and then back to Scotland with Ayr.
Tom migrated to South Africa in 1910, becoming player
coach of the Rangers club in Johannesburg.
Also employed in the mining industry while in South Africa,
his accidental death was recorded in February 1912.

1899 Henry Bedford born, Chesterfield.
(1930-32)
One of a select band of players who scored on their Newcastle
debuts (in a 5-2 home win over Leicester City in December 1930).
A former miner who scored goals at all of his previous clubs - Nottingham
Forest, Blackpool and Derby - England international Harry joined United in a £4,000
transfer.
However he remained at SJP for just over a year before switching to the mackems.
And
after barely six months at Roker, he moved on to Bradford Park Avenue.
He later appeared for both Chesterfield and Heanor Town before returning to
Gallowgate as club trainer in 1937.
1938 saw him take up a similar job at Derby and he was to remain in the East
Midlands for the rest of his life, having brief spells in charge of both Belper
Town and Heanor in the mid 1950s.
Working for Rolls Royce in their own fire service for many years, Harry also
acted as masseur to the Derbyshire cricket team for some time. He passed away
in 1976.
1909 Ehud Rogers born, Chirk, Wales.
(1936-39)
More commonly known by the nickname 'Tim', Rogers
played outside right for various local clubs in his native Wales before Wrexham
signed him on in 1934.
Within a year he'd signed for Arsenal where he scored five times in 16 first
team games, but was never a guaranteed starter.
1936 saw him join Newcastle, debuting in a season-opening 1-0 home loss to
Barnsley.
Sold to Swansea Town for £700 in May 1939, Tim's footballing career was
disrupted by the outbreak of war and consequent halting of Football League
fixtures.
Guesting for Wrexham, Everton and Lovells Athletic he also served in the Middle
East with the RAF. Post-war saw him rejoin Wrexham and he retired after a spell
at another of his former clubs, Oswestry Town.
Tim died in 1996, in his home town of Chirk, where he'd run a newsagents and
coached the local football club for a time.
1934 Joseph Cooper born, Gateshead.
(1952-59)
Half back signed from local side Winlaton Mill who made his
senior debut in a 2-2 draw at Preston North End in September 1953 - deputising
for Bob Stokoe after he fell down some stairs on the eve of the game!
That was the first of two outings that season and after matching that total in
the 1954/55 season, Joe's next first team callup wasn't until early 1957.
A sixth and final appearance came in the Tyne-wear derby of February 1958, when
Joe handled in the box and gave away a penalty in a game that ended in a 2-2
draw.
1971 Andrew Cole born, Nottingham.
(1993-95)
Striker who began his career as an Arsenal apprentice but
played just twice for the Gunners first team before moving on - also appearing
for Fulham on loan in 1991.
Sold to Bristol City for £500K, by 1993 Cole's goalscoring and pace had
attracted scouts to Ashton Gate and Kevin Keegan persuaded Newcastle to cough
up £1.75m for him.
Making his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at Swindon in March 1993, Cole
got off the mark for his new club the following week, at home to Notts County.
Ending the promotion season with twelve goals from as many games, the
"gets the ball, scores a goal" song echoed round SJP as he completed
a hat trick in a 7-1 victory over Leicester City and we bade farewell to the
old Division One.
A first Premiership goal came in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and he went on to
collect a club record 41 goals in all competitions, many of them created by
Peter Beardsley.
Equalling the 39 goal haul of Hughie Gallacher and George Robledo when netting
in a fine 2-0 win at Anfield, Cole then failed to find the target in front of
an expectant SJP in a 3-2 victory over Oldham Athletic.
However, he duly set the record during a 5-1 home win over Aston Villa the
following Wednesday, driving the ball past Nigel Spink.
The record was then extended on the final day of the season, when Cole notched
a 41st goal against his former employers, Arsenal.
Much was expected of Cole and United the following season and he didn't
disappoint, racking up a dozen goals by early October.
However, he was started to be troubled by an injury later diagnosed as shin
splints and was forced to rest, missing out on a pivotal week in which his side
lost at Old Trafford and then in Bilbao - the latter ending a UEFA Cup run.
A playing return in late November saw Cole score in a 1-1 home draw with
Ipswich - his 15th of the season and although nobody knew it at the time, his
last as a Magpie.
His final outing came in the FA Cup, as Blackburn drew 1-1 at SJP - a ninth
game without a goal for Cole.
By the next week he'd joined Manchester United for £6m (and winger Keith
Gillespie), Kevin Keegan had famously met furious fans on the steps of SJP to
justify his decision and the Red Devils were in Toon.
Neither Cole nor Gillespie played for their new clubs that day by agreement,
although the atmosphere was lively enough without the added charge of their
presence.
The trophies he craved came under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson and Cole
remained a red until a move to Blackburn Rovers in December 2001.
He later appeared for Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Birmingham City,
before signing for the mackems - although he never scored a first team goal for
Roy Keane's mob.
Loaned out to Burnley, Cole's final move took him back to his native
Nottingham, but a brief flirtation with Forest failed to inspire him and he
left by mutual consent in late 2008.
Aside from a brief spell as Huddersfield Town striking coach (helping out former
Magpie colleague Lee Clark), he worked as a media pundit and a club
ambassador for Manchester United.
Cole represented England U21s while at SJP and won the first of 15 full caps
two months after moving to Old Trafford. His only senior international strike
came away to Albania in March 2001.
Abused
by Newcastle supporters following his move - and not helping his cause when caught on camera singing the "cheer up Kevin Keegan" song -
Cole won over some of his former fans when he wore black & white again
in January 1999, for Peter Beardsley's testimonial.
And by the time he played in Steve Harper's testimonial in 2013, those present at SJP welcomed him without
reservation.
Cole suffered a major health scare three years later when it was revealed
that he was suffering from kidney failure and his weight ballooned due to his
medication.
He underwent a successful transplant operation in 2017,
following the donation of a healthy kidney by a family member.
Kevin Keegan subsequently claimed that his original plan was to pair Cole
with Les Ferdinand - but QPR wouldn't sell at that time. That would have been
worth seeing.
His post-Newcastle playing career may have brought him into conflict with us
(and he never struggled to find the net against us), but his time in a Toon
shirt was fairly remarkable - truly a modern day legend.
1988 Callum Little
born, Hexham.
(2004-07)
Reserve and Academy midfielder who was
released by United in 2007 and then briefly appeared as a trialist for the
mackems.
Signing a three year deal with the Dutch Division
Two side FC Emmen that September, a succession of injuries saw Callum released
in 2009 and he returned to the UK.
A career in non-league football followed, at Blyth Spartans, Ashington, Team
Northumbria and Dunston UTS.

Newcastle's sixth win in as
many home games came in part due to a hat-trick from
Billy Cairns, but Tommy Mooney earned top billing in the
local newspaper reports.
The left winger netted twice and laid on two goals for
Cairns, in addition to several other crosses that
weren't converted.
Magpies boss Tom Mather wasn't present, watching
Chesterfield's reserve centre half Ken Booker in a
Central League game against Liverpool. He wasn't
impressed.

Our run of four successive away wins in the league
looked like ending in this Saturday afternoon snooze in
the Selhurst Park sunshine.
That was until Peter Beardsley gained possession some 30
yards out, jinked forward in familiar style and then
rifled home a fine effort in front of the building site
where the Holmesdale Stand was under construction.

United
conceded an early goal in Budapest after John Beresford and Pavel
Srnicek left it to each other to clear the danger - and
were promptly punished.
They went further behind before Les Ferdinand
netted with a header and Alan Shearer volleyed in to
restore parity.
Ferdinand had a goal disallowed and Rob Lee hit a
post, before an uncharacteristic error from Peter
Beardsley allowed the home side to take the lead once
again.
Shearer then thought he'd earned his side a draw in added
time, only for
Swedish referee Leif Sundell to chalk off his effort.
Normal service was resumed when the teams met
at SJP, United winning the second leg 4-0.

5-0 up after the first leg, antics off the pitch sadly overshadowed
what was an instantly forgettable performance.
87 travelling fans were detained before the game, but
while some were undoubtedly involved in fighting, many
others were guilty of being English in the wrong place at
the wrong time when rounded up by police.

United debuted at the JJB Stadium as they faced the
Latics for the very first time in the League - their only
previous visit for an FA Cup tie at Springfield Park in
1954.
The hosts ended this Saturday lunchtime Sky
pay-per-view live game a man short after Lee
McCulloch was red-carded for a nasty foul on Emre
near the end.
Aside from an Alan Shearer header that crossed the line
but wasn't given though, Graeme Souness's side offered
very little.
