Leeds United U17s 0 Newcastle U17s 2
Wednesday saw Newcastle U17s complete their group stage fixtures
in this season's Premier League Cup, victory at Thorp Arch giving
them three wins from as many games.
Mason Miley shot his side ahead with a first-time effort from inside
the centre circle. Substitute Alfie Seldon then set up Alfie
Hutchison for the clinching second goal; an excellent defensive
performance resulting in a clean sheet.
Team: Dowell, Patterson, Moran, Old, Durrant, Goodbrand,
M.Miley, Gilligan, Pinnington, Hutchison, Ferreira.
Earlier in the group stage, the youngsters won 2-1 at Boro, thanks
to late goals from Hutchison and Seldon.
A 5-3 home conquest of the mackems followed, Seldon's brace adding
to Jake Durrant's opener and two from Jack Patterson.
This is the second successive season that Newcastle have reached the
last eight of this competition, exiting at the hands of Manchester
United in 2024.
Also through to the quarter finals are Blackburn Rovers, Leicester
City, Liverpool, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, with the
other two group winners known when the final fixtures take place
next week.

Update:
Sandro signs on
Wednesday brought media reports that the Sandro Tonali
contract extension said to have been a priority for new Sporting
Director Ross Wilson was in fact done and dusted while one of his
predecessors was still in post.
The 25 year-old Italian midfielder signed a five year deal following
his capture from AC Milan in 2023 and is now revealed to have put
pen to paper on an extension while serving his suspension for
breaking betting regulations.
Tonali is now said to be under contract at SJP until 2029, with a
further 12 month extension exercisable at the club's discretion -
negotiations for both completed before Dan Ashworth left the Magpies
in early 2024.
Carabao Cup :
Spurs (h) tickets
FAO ST holders on the Carabao Cup scheme wondering why they haven't
received an email with a ticket download for next Wednesday's home
tie against Spurs - and cannot download their ticket when accessing
the club website.
Buried in the payment reminder emails sent out by the club in early
October but not received by everyone was the following line:
"Tickets for this fixture will be uploaded onto your season
pass."
In other words, no action is necessary and access against Spurs
next week will be obtained by scanning season tickets as if it were
a Premier League home game.
This is a change to the ticketing system,
differing from the previous home cup ties versus Barcelona,
Bradford City and Benfica and the upcoming one against Bilbao, when
individual tickets were issued.
Carabao Cup scheme members whose initial payment failed or who
were relocated from their usual seat for the Spurs game should have
received an individual ticket.
All ticket queries: [email protected]
PS: The latest Fan Advisory Board minutes include the following
line, suggesting that this change is permanent:
"For future domestic cup fixtures, tickets will be uploaded
directly to season cards."

United's youngsters remain pointless after three games in this
season's U19 Youth League, outwitted by their Portuguese
counterparts at Whitley Park on Tuesday.
The visitors were first to show with a few rangefinder shots that
flew over George Mair's goal, before Kacey Wooster tested Benfica
custodian Diogo Ferreira on 19 minutes.
That began a period of United pressure; Leo Shahar firing across the
face of goal moments later and Wooster trying his luck again but
seeing a 25th minute effort blocked.
The opener went the way of Benfica 10 minutes before the interval,
Eduardo Fernandes turning in the box before wrong-footing Mair with
a low shot.
What proved to be a pivotal passage of play saw United attack from
the first whistle after the break, Neave just failing to force his
shot under Ferreira within 10 seconds.
A debatable penalty gave Benfica the chance to double their lead on
53 minutes after Jose Neto threw himself to the floor after contact
from Shahar - only for Mair to guess correctly and deny Goncalo
Moreira from 12 yards.
Reality swiftly intervened though within four minutes, as a
Fernandes shot from distance was beaten out by Mair but snapped up
by Franciso Silva for an easy finish.
Only a vital block by Logan Watts then prevented a third Portuguese
goal just after the hour but a frantic period of play in the 67th
minute ended with the United defender helping a Fernandes shot into
his own net.
Strong running from United's main attacking threat Neave created a
shooting opportunity on 75 minutes, but he was foiled again before a
mazy run across the box from the impressive Moreira ended with him
firing in via a post.
The black and whites did grab a consolation goal when substitute Joe
Brayson finished well two minutes from the end of normal time, only
for Fernandes to round off his hat-trick from close range during
time added on.
Team: Mair, Shahar, Charlton, Johnson, Watts, Munda, Bailey (Finneran
61), Alabi (Waddani 71), Neave (Yildiz 86), Park (Seldon 61),
Wooster (Brayson 61).
Subs n/u: Dowell, Moran, Goodbrand, Bloomer.
Booked: Neave, Shahar, Charlton

Referee: Lothar D'hondt, who had a rather quieter shift than
on Friday, when he stopped the Belgian League game between Standard
Liege and Antwerp in the 88th minute, after cup was thrown at him by
a supporter.

Update:

Sky Sports reported on Friday that Newcastle
goalkeeper Nick Pope had exercised the option in his contract for a
further 12 months, keeping him at Gallowgate until 2027.
The 33 year-old has made 104 league and cup appearances since arriving from
Burnley ahead of the 2022/23 season, keeping five clean sheets in the
opening seven games of the current Premier League campaign.
Premier League:
TV times (incomplete)
Earlier: Wednesday saw the Premier League announce some changes
to the December fixture list, with three Newcastle games rescheduled
for TV as follows:
Tue 02.12.2025 Spurs (h) 8.15pm Sky
Sat 06.12.2025 Burnley (h) 3pm (no live TV)
Sun 14.12.2025 mackems (a) 2pm Sky
Sat 20.12.2025 Chelsea (h) 12.30pm TNT
Although fixtures up to the end of January were due on Wednesday,
only those up to Mon 22.12.2025 appeared. There's no word on when
the remainder will be released, leaving seven Newcastle games still
subject to change:
Sat 27.12.2025 tbc Manchester United (a)
Tue 30.12.2025 tbc Burnley (a)
Sat 03.01.2026 tbc Crystal Palace (h)

Sat 17.01.2026 tbc Wolves (a)
Sat 24.01.2026 tbc Aston Villa (h)*
Sat 31.01.2026 tbc Liverpool (a)
The initial fixture release in June didn't list any games on
either December 26th or January 1st, but the PL's only "blackout"
days are December 24th and 25th.
On that basis, some PL fixtures are liable to be played on both
Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Internationals:
Wissa complication
Following the final round of World Cup qualifiers involving
African nations, the four sides contesting the play-off
tournament are now confirmed - including DR
Congo.
Assuming he's fit by then, Newcastle's Yoane Wissa would be in
contention for selection when The Leopards travel to Morocco during
the November international break.
Semi-finals are set for November 13th when DR Congo play Cameroon,
with the winners of that facing either Gabon or Nigeria three days
later.
The winners of that qualify for a further inter-confederation
qualification tournament involving six teams in USA/Mexico, staged during
next March's international break.
NB: this is all over and above DR Congo's participation in the
African Cup of Nations Final tournament, staged between December
21st and January 18th in Morocco.
Theoretically, players can be called up 14 days in advance, but it's
anticipated this will be delayed until after Premier League fixtures
on and around December 13th.
Whether that could be stretched further to include Carabao Cup
ties the following midweek remains to seen.
Book:
Belfast boy
Out now from Pitch
Publishing is the definitive biography of United icon, Bill
McCracken, penned by renowned Magpies club historian Paul Joannou.

The Belfast-born defender served Newcastle for 15 seasons,
winning three titles and one FA Cup while generating headlines
worldwide for his revolutionary offside tactic.
Bill's life in football then extended for over half a century in
managerial and scouting roles, included that of transfer advisor to
Magpies supremo Stan Seymour in the 1950s.

Derby disaster
mackems U18s 4 Newcastle U18s 1
Newcastle's U18 side travelled to wearyside on Saturday morning
for their first league local derby of the season and were two
down after just ten minutes.
Armenian midfielder Finn Geragusian scored twice in four minutes to
put the hosts two up before Marcus Neill's penalty in added time made it
0-3 at the interval.
The young Magpies got one back in the 65th minute through Alfie
Hutchison but there was a further goal for the mackems in the 87th
minute when Ivan Struk... struck.
Team: Mair, Bloomer, Durrant (Goodbrand 63), Moran, Johnson, M.Miley

Carabao Cup:
Spurs
(h)
United's third home game in a third
different competition during a nine day period sees them receive Spurs
in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
It's an 8pm kick-off, live on ITV1 and Sky Sports and if the scores are level after 90 minutes, the tie will be
settled by a penalty shootout.
The winners will take their place in the quarter final draw, which
will be staged after the full time whistle.
While Newcastle enjoy home comforts for the third successive
game, the visitors complete a trio of away fixtures:
drawing 0-0 in Monaco in the Champions League on Thursday and
visiting Everton in the Premier League on Sundsay before heading to
the North East.
Spurs will be backed by 4,900 fans - the same allocation that
Bradford City received in the last round. On that basis expect
temporary post-match closures of the walking route from the Leazes
End onto Barrack Road for home fans, as was the case against the
Bantams.

Entering at the Third Round stage due to their European involvement
like Newcastle, Spurs made it to the last 16 thanks to a routine 3-0
home win over Doncaster Rovers.
The two sides last faced each other in pre-season, a Harvey Barnes
goal giving United a 1-1 draw in the South Korean capital, Seoul on
the night that Son Heung-Min ended his decade-long association with
the Cockerels.

ST holders have 24
hours to apply, 24 hours to determine success, 48 hours to
buy.
Success is based on the loyalty point total calculated from applications
received. Any applications from ST holders with less points are entered into a
ballot, which will have taken place before tickets go on sale.
The purchase window is divided into two sections determined by a loyalty
point division that alters for each game - those successful applicants above
that point division get a couple of hours head start.
Note that emails from NUFC confirming success may arrive after the purchase
window opens - if you think you qualify because of your points total, just log
on and complete your purchase regardless.
Tickets not bought by successful applicants within 48 hours are offered
to unsuccessful applicants with the next highest loyalty points total. NUFC contact them directly.
Friends and family groups remain, travel groups and away season tickets are
gone.

Born Or Died:
1915 Jimmy Gordon
born, Fauldhouse, Scotland. (1935-45)

Working as a miner and playing for junior side Wishaw
before joining United, wing half Jimmy debuted in a 2-3 defeat at
Oldham during April 1935.
However his time at SJP was blighted
by both a broken leg and the outbreak of WWII, after which it was
thought by the club's directors that the 30 year-old had nothing to
offer the Division Two side.
Released before the resumption of league football, Jimmy joined
Middlesbrough and went on to become their club captain, playing on
until the age of 38.
Joining the Ayresome Park coaching staff following his retirement,
Jimmy later moved on to a similar post at Blackburn Rovers and in
1969, was persuaded to join Derby County by ex-Boro colleague
Brian Clough.
He helped the Rams to title success and later followed Clough to both
Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, working alongside Clough and Peter
Taylor throughout a golden age of trophy success at the City Ground.
Given the accolade of leading the Forest side out at Wembley in the
1980 League Cup Final, Jimmy retired the following year.
Living in Derby, he was sadly to suffer from Alzheimer's disease in
the final years of his life and passed away in August 1996.
2009 saw Brian Clough's brief flirtation with Elland Road dramatised
in the feature film, "The Damned United", featuring
Wearside -born actor Maurice Roeves as Jimmy.

1930
Alan Monkhouse born, Stockton-on-Tees. (1953-56)

Centre forward
who began his career with Thornaby, joining Millwall in 1949 and going
on to score 23 goals in 69 appearances for the Third Division (South)
Lions.
Transferred to Newcastle at a cost of £11,500 in October 1953,
Alan made his United debut in a 4-0 home victory over Cardiff
City the following month.
Grabbing a hat trick at SJP during a 4-1 win over Sheffield United the
following March, Monkhouse then played his part in our FA Cup-winning
campaign in 1955.
Recalled in place of Vic Keeble, Alan's two goals helped United
overcome Nottingham Forest in a Fifth Round second
replay and the team went on to lift the trophy.
Alan however returned to the reserves, having been unable to keep
retain a first XI shirt in those pre-substitute days.
Moving on to York City in 1956, Alan ended his playing career with South Shields.
He died in
1992.
 1998 Ben Kitchen born, Newcastle.
(2015-18)

Younger brother of Magpies reserve Alex and son of
former Leyton Orient and Gateshead defender Sam, full back Ben was
just six when he first joined United's Academy.
Debuting at U18 level in a 0-0 draw away to Stoke City in August 2015,
Kitchen's reserve team bow came in a 0-3 loss to Fulham at Whitley
Park the following February.
An U18 regular during the 2016/17 campaign, Kitchen returned to the
reserve side for the following season and acquired squad number 56 for
CheckaTrade Trophy fixtures.
However, he left during June 2018 as part of a mass
clearout of Newcastle's development squad, signing a contract at
Croatian side NK Novigrad alongside fellow Magpies discard Kurtis
Russell.
After a year overseas, Ben returned to the UK with
Whitby Town following a successful trial. However he'd left by 2020.

It was more relief than euphoria that greeted the final

shared, with the hosts twice throwing away the lead.
United's second looked to go in off SJP old boy Stephen Caldwell, but Shola

Citing their "unfairly negative" coverage of a fan protest
march ahead of the previous Saturday's home game against
Liverpool, NUFC informed Trinity Mirror North East that
their three local titles, The Chronicle, Journal and

News of the ban broke the following Sunday after United's
