2023/24:
Villa (h) ticket
updates A few FYIs ahead
of Saturday's Premier League season opener at home to Aston Villa:
Digital
ticketing at SJP guide
For any season ticket holder (STH) not attending wishing to forward on their seat, that
process is now live. Details here
Forwarding requires only that the person receiving the ticket has a
free account on the NUFC ticketing system that is linked to the
STH via the friends and family facility. There is no need to buy a
membership to use a reallocated season ticket.
NUFC confirm that transfers must be completed at least one hour
before kick-off on Saturday. Given the lack of Wifi signal round SJP,
we'd advise doing any downloading well before reaching Barrack
Road....
For any STH not attending wishing to resell their seat to NUFC,
that process is now live. Details here
The resale of season ticket seats to members is now live and is on a first-come, first-served basis. That's a random process depending on being online at the point that a STH places their
seat on sale.
We're unsure when the cut-off time to
resell (and purchase) ST seats is.
NB: Any ticket obtained via the membership ballot or ST resale is non-transferable - there's no process allowing it
to be forwarded to another ticket account or resold. The only option
is a refund.
In an attempt to entice fans into the ground early and cut down
congestion as digital season tickets are used for the first time,
anyone entering before 4.45pm will be added to a free prize draw and
can take
advantage of reduced prices at stadium catering outlets.
2023/24:
Aston Villa (h)
Newcastle kick off their Premier League campaign at
home on Saturday, hosting Aston Villa in a 5.30pm kick-off
that's live on Sky Sports.
United ended last season unbeaten in their final four PL games
following a 0-2 loss to Arsenal that was one of just two PL home
defeats in the entire campaign.
The Villans are winless in their last 15 visits to SJP, with nine
home victories and six draws since David O'Leary's side won 3-0 on
Tyneside in April 2005.
That was the game in which three United players were infamously
dismissed - and only the second time that Villa had won at SJP in
the Premier League.
Their other PL success on Barrack Road was the first game of the
1999/00 campaign, when Alan Shearer saw red during a 0-1 loss.
One has to go back to April 1989 and a 2-1 victory by Graham
Taylor's side for the last occasion that Villa beat an 11 man
Magpies side at SJP.
Team:
Fabian Schar is doubtful, while
Emil Krafth and Joe Willock remain sidelined.

Referee: Andy Madley - two Toon games last
season for the West Yorkshire whistler; the 0-0 draw away at Arsenal

That's
Liv
in alright....

United's third major summer signing
was confirmed on Tuesday morning, Southampton defender Valentino Livramento
arriving in a £30m+ deal.
The 20 year-old England international right
back has signed a five year deal and attended both days of the Sela
Cup tournament last weekend. Croydon-born
Livramento began his career at Chelsea as a schoolboy, completing a
permanent switch to Southampton in August 2021 without having played
a senior game during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Debuting against Everton within days of moving to St. Mary's, he
completed 90 minutes of a 2-2 draw at SJP in only his third game.
Netting his only senior goal to date at home to Burnley, he also
faced the Magpies the following March when we won 2-1 in Hampshire.
Tino's most recent Premier League
start came in April 2022 against Brighton, sustaining ACL damage that sidelined him
for over a year before returning to the first team in the closing
weeks of last season.
Returning to full fitness, he featured for the Saints in pre-season
but was withdrawn from their squad for Friday's Championship season
opener at Sheffield Wednesday once a deal was struck with Newcastle.
Born of Scottish and Portuguese parents, Livramento has represented
England at U16 level and upwards, current Magpies Elliot Anderson
and Matty Bondswell among his international team mates. Two of his
five U21 caps to date were alongside Anthony Gordon.
PS: Confirmation of Livramento's arrival is predicted to see
the departure of Javier Manquillo, amid reports that he's set
to join an un-named Spanish club.

Double departure
Following his loan spell in Scotland with Hearts in the latter part
last season, Magpies forward Garang Kuol has made another
temporary switch from SJP.
The Egyptian-born Australian international has joined Dutch side FC Volendam
for the coming season and could debut in their season opener against
Vitesse Arnhem this coming Friday.
Kuol is the second Newcastle player loaned to an
Eredivisie club after Yankuba Minteh at Feyenoord. The first
scheduled meeting of those two sides is in December, by which time
they'll both be aged 19.
Meanwhile, Max Thompson
has made a loan switch to League One Northampton Town until
January.
The Newcastle-born goalkeeper turned 19 last week and signed his
first professional contract in 2021. He's yet to make his senior
competitive debut.
England youth international Max will understudy Lee Burge at the
Cobblers. He made his bow against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup on
Tuesday.

2023/24:
Manchester
City (a)
Having gone on sale to season
ticket holders with 100 points on Wednesday, tickets for Newcastle's
Premier League visit to Manchester City began at 90 points on
Thursday.
Dropping by 10 points every weekday at 2pm, by Wednesday that total
was down to 50, at which point over 1,000 still remained available.
Note that tickets are three separate categories on the ticket website not just one:
"away supporters", "rail seating" and "away
supporters (digital tickets)". The rail seating is located in lower
tier sections 113/114.
NUFC's original press release is here
The main alterations to the selling process are:
1. Following supporter consultation
there will be a limited allocation open to season ticket holder
ballot for those who do not meet the away points threshold. This
ballot will go live after the final points drop and will be open for
entry for 24 hours.
Supporters will be asked to
input card details. If they are successful in the ballot, payment
will be taken and the season ticket holder will be notified by
email.
Those that are unsuccessful in the ballot will not be
contacted and will not be charged. Please note: travel groups cannot
be facilitated in the ballot. Friends and family that meet the
eligibility criteria can book together through the linked family and
friends functionality.
Each member has a unique
supporter ID and can therefore only register once for the ballot (so
if you are included in a group application, you cannot also make an
individual application at the same time). The maximum number of
supporters who may be included within a ballot application is six.
If you wish to be included in
the ballot so that, if successful, you would be seated together in a
group with friends and/or family members, then you must register all
of the proposed members of that group in one application only.
To apply for friends and family
members, they must be season ticket holders and be linked to your
account via the 'My Friends & Family' option within your online
ticketing account. Please ensure that, before submitting a group
application as lead applicant, you have (i) completed and checked
this in your account settings and (ii) obtained the prior consent of
those friends and/or family members on whose behalf you are
applying.
It is imperative that you check
and select the correct age band for each ballot applicant, since
failure to do so may result in an unsuccessful application.
Each applicant (and, in the case
of a group application, the lead applicant submitting on behalf of
the group) will need to enter credit/debit card details when
submitting a ballot application. No payment will be processed at the
point of registering in the ballot.
If you are successful, the
automated balloting system will automatically allocate you (and in
the case of a group application, each of the members of that group)
a seat which could be in any of the available seats.
Once the deadline date has
passed for ballot registrations, the ballot will be drawn randomly.
The season ticket applicants who are successful in the ballot will
automatically have their credit/debit card payment charged for the
total cost of ticket(s) allotted (including applicable booking fees
and delivery fees). Each successful applicant (and, in the case of a
successful group application, the lead applicant submitting on
behalf of the group) will receive a confirmation email.
If your payment is not
successful the Box Office will contact you. You will then have 24
hours to complete payment following initial contact. If payment is
not received by this time, the tickets will be re-balloted and
allocated to another eligible supporter.
If you do not receive an email
then, unfortunately the number of ballot applications received has
exceeded available ticket capacity and you have not been successful.
Supporters can check whether or not they are successful in the
ballot via the 'My Account' option within their online ticketing
account.
Please note: travel groups are
not in operation for the ballot allocation.
2. There will be the opportunity of
digital away tickets at certain clubs across the season, starting
with the Manchester City match, where United will be allocated a
portion of digital tickets.
3. Please note these digital tickets and
all paper tickets are for the sole use of the supporter making the
purchase under their Newcastle United supporter number and are
strictly non-transferable.
There will be random spot
checks at away stadiums throughout the season and failure to produce
appropriate ID matching the purchaser supporter number will result
in removal of your loyalty points and/or your season ticket being
voided.
Update:
That's
entertainment
Pre-orders
for a new independently-produced NUFC book are now open, providing a
visual record of last season from a supporter perspective.
"The Entertained" is the work of Toon fan George, who
attended games armed with a 35mm camera and recorded off the field scenes
on old-fashioned film for added , rather than more modern digital formats.
The result is what he calls, "a 268-page photo book
documenting match-day moments....from lively concourses to late-winner
pandemonium in the stands to pyro and cans at Trafalgar Square to
sun-swept Geordies on Thames boats."
Copies can be pre-ordered
until 6pm on Thursday August 17th, after which books will be
printed. Retailing at £20, £5 of every book sold will be donated to Wor
Flags to help fund future flag displays.

Born Or Died:
1896 William Cowan born, Edinburgh, Scotland.
(1923-26)

Inside right signed from Dundee in July 1923
who debuted in a 2-2 home draw with Sheffield United that September - missing
the start of the season due to illness.
Beginning his career with Tranent before joining Dundee in 1920, Billy was on
the verge of national team selection after impressing in a trial match, but had
been forced to withdraw through injury.
A regular starter, Cowan played in all but one of United's nine FA Cup ties in
his first season at the club, including a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup
Final at Wembley.
Put on the transfer list at his own request during March 1926, Billy's final
game for the club was a 3-0 home victory over West Bromwich Albion a month
later.
Moving on to Manchester City that August in exchange for a £3,000 fee, Cowan
lasted there just one season before returning to his native Scotland with
St.Mirren.
Later moves took him to Peebles Rovers, Northfleet, North Shields, Hartlepools United,

£1.5m signing from Everton, Peter Beardsley was
