After negotiating a potentially tricky 3rd round tie with comparative ease, we now face either the prospect of either a first-ever competitive match against Darlington, or a team we've slipped up against more than once, Peterborough.

It was in the dark days of 1991 when, having recovered from being 0-3 down at Crewe to beat them 5-3 over two legs the 3rd round of what was then the Rumbelows Cup took us to London Road.

There, in a nightmarish game a toon team featuring Justin Fashanu lost 0-1.

However this wasn't the first time that Posh had humbled us: a 0-1 home defeat in the 1960-61 FA Cup was followed by a 3-4 League Cup reverse 5 years later.

Our last FA Cup meeting was in 1977-78, when during a miserable relegation season we won a 3rd round replay 2-0 at Gallowgate, the opener from Tommy Craig, now Magpies reserve coach.

So, while the media get excited about a Quaker meeting, beware the Posh and their eccentric supremo Barry Fry.
