We Said

 Tommy Craig said:

"It was a young side and we picked up a point against an experienced one. It was a credit to both teams that they showed a lot of spirit and enthusiasm in some difficult conditions.

"I said before the game that the conditions weren't going to be easy but that if they showed some honest endeavour they would be OK and they gave me that."

The second string extended their unbeaten record at Kingston Park this season to five matches with a second successive scoreless home draw. However there was precious little to entertain the crowd due to a swirling blanket of fog that shrouded the pitch throughout the evening.

After 23 minutes of nothingness, things cleared just enough to see Calvin Zola have a shot that Blues' keeper Andy Marriott parried.

And we think that Joe Kendrick had a shot saved on about 38 minutes, but to be honest we're not sure.

Our resident joker Rob B on the decks of course was ready at half time with Fog on the Tyne....but the youthful crowd (and team) would probably have preferred Mist Dynamite.

And as the reserves don't have a half time hero on the pitch like the first team, we were denied sight of what would have been a wholly appropriate guest - Alan Foggon.

Nothing noteworthy at all was visible in the second half as the evening descended into farce. All we can say is that nobody caught the eye... literally.

There were first league starts at this level for James Beaumont and Ross Gardner and Lee Norton and debuts for subs Ben Jackson and Daryl Smylie.
