Newcastle made their bow in the Pontins League with a low-key home game against Darlington on Tuesday afternoon at their adopted home ground of Whitley Park.

About 200 spectators were on hand to see a forgettable display from the Magpies including: Sir Bobby, John Carver, Olivier Bernard and Shola Ameobi.

Highlights:

22 mins A glancing header from Acuna gave us the lead, the Chilean getting on the end of a Quinn corner from the right.

47 mins LuaLua was fouled in the area and a slightly dubious penalty was awarded. The same player took the spot kick but blazed it high over the crossbar.

60 mins Goalscorer Acuna was given a straight red card after clashing on the ground with Neil Wainwright, following a dubious challenge from the former mackem.

90 mins Newcastle-born Mark Convery levelled things for Darlo with a late effort, only 20 seconds from the final whistle.
