Stalemate for the second time in two games at Whitley Park on Thursday and now no wins in three games for our Pontins reserve side, who have drawn with Darlington and Scunthorpe and lost to Hartlepool.

Tommy Craig opted to field seven of the Premier reserve side that lost at West Brom on Monday night, with the added firepower up front of Cort and Chopra, but another underwhelming result was recorded.

Highlights:

15 mins The first major chance for either side saw toon defender Chris Carr's shot cleared off the line by a visiting defender.

27 mins Danger from Scunny as Brennan has to nip smartly in to clear an incoming cross, with two unmarked attackers lurking for scraps.

34 mins Newcastle broke the deadlock with an individual effort from Michael Chopra, seizing on a Carr through ball on the edge of box, beating a defender with a deft first touch then slamming the ball home past on-loan Boro 'keeper Russell 1-0

35 mins Scunny tried to reply with a corner that was played back into a ruck of players in the Newcastke six yard box. Ramage was on hand though to clear his lines.

41 mins A decent run from Alan O'Brien down the left flank saw him deliver a looping centre which dropped nicely for Cort to attempt a volleyed shot. Unfortunately for him, his effort cleared not only the crossbar but also the perimeter fence - that ball is now believed to be somewhere in the DSS car park....

48 mins Andy Ferrell's block tackle on Russ Penn saw the ball fall loose to Ambrose. He hit a spectacular first-time shot off the crossbar from the centre circle.

52 mins Norton's pass released O'Brien but he could only shoot into the side netting.

53 mins Ferrell hobbled off for Gate, apparently still suffering from the after -affects of an earlier tackle.

60 mins An Elliott tackle saw the ball run loose for Scunthorpe forward Andy Brown to shoot home 1-1

64 mins Newcastle missed a golden chance to regain the lead, when Cort's run took him round the keeper, but his weak right foot shot trickled towards empty net before bouncing off the foot of post and being booted clear by one of the two defenders who had outpaced the original shot to get back to defend their goal.

75 mins Elliott again sent over a decent cross which Cort met with a strong header from 10 yards directly at the GK.
