We Said

Lee Clark commented:

"That was a lot better and I could not ask any more from the lads.

"Everyone of them has been excellent, and even before we scored the three goals I was extremely pleased with how we had played.

"They have all put in a performance which is worthy of wearing the Newcastle United shirt, and that was the reaction they knew I was looking for after Monday.

"We were in charge of the game from the kick-off and passed the ball really well.

"The goals capped it off and Andy scored two excellent headers.

The first one was especially difficult because he had to get enough power on it from a standing jump.

"Jonny Godsmark and Andy linked up well all night and it was no surprise when he created Andy's second goal as well.

"Mark Doninger has smashed the other one in and it was what we deserved.

"I know I say results are not that important, but it was a happy dressing room after the game and I was pleased for the lads."

Waffle

Our second string finally tasted success for the first time since October and this time it was three late goals in our favour that gave us the points - Liverpool having triumphed at Kingston Park in similar fashion 48 hours previously.

However, our lads almost didn't get there when the team bus broke down on the way to the game at Saltergate and a replacement coach was required.

A quiet start to proceedings saw only Matty Pattison try his luck from distance, before Newcastle's dangerman Andy Carroll nodded a chance wide ten minutes before the interval.

Further chances before half time from Kazenga LuaLua and Pattison failed to bring a goal and into the second period Jonny Godsmark was denied again by England Youth 'keeper Jamie Annerson as he charged through on goal.

Striker Andy Carroll broke the deadlock deep in the second half when he got on the end of a Godsmark cross to head United in front.

And the lead was doubled when midfielder Mark Doninger volleyed home after Carroll's header was half-cleared off the line.

In the dying moments Carroll avenged our recent three-goal home defeat by the Blades as he headed home Godsmark's pass to secure our second away success of the season.
