We Said

Dickie Dosh said:

"It was pleasing. It’s always nice to start the year with a victory, and it’s always nice to start the year with a win. We were a little bit patchy at times, and the pitch wasn’t too easy, but I thought we played some really good stuff.

”We've always got a goal in us, which is really good. I thought all three goals were really good. We were a threat all night long."

A sparse crowd at Whitley Park on Monday evening saw Jonny Godsmark inspire the Magpies, as they avenged their three goal away loss at the hands of the Trotters.

The winger claimed two assists and one strike as United registered their first league success in four attempts.

Striker Nile Ranger took just nine minutes of his first outing of 2009 to find the target, finishing from 12 yards after Godsmark beat two men down the right before centring.

And United doubled their lead six minutes before the break, when Godsmark crossed again for Frank Wiafe Danquah to score his first of the season.

The Trotters had given United some anxious moments before the break, with Sam Sheridan hitting a post and Fraser Forster equal to Javlon Campbell's long-range shot.

However, the victory was sewn up within a minute of the restart, when Ranger released Godsmark to shoot home for his first and United's third.
