The Magpies continued
under the interim guidance of Neil Winskill and Jack Ross.
Friday
evening saw Newcastle become the latest side to come up short in their bid to
upset an in-form Hammers side in PL2.
The East Londoners arrived at Whitley Park with three wins from their first
three games, a late opportunist strike extending that 100% run and seeing them
top the table.
Problems with the club's live stream via their app left many fans unable to
watch footage, but they missed little in a nondescript opening 45 minutes.
Things improved somewhat after the interval, winger Trevan Sanusi twice testing
the visiting goalkeeper in the opening five minutes.
The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when Kam Swyer
pursued a forward pass and nipped in to steer Cathal Heffernan's attempted
header as goalkeeper Aidan Harris advanced.
There were a couple of late half-chances for the hosts but some long balls into
the box failed to fall kindly.
