Following disagreements over the requirement to host a certain number games at SJP, NUFC opted not to play any reserve league fixtures in the 1996/97 season.
That left them to arrange occasional friendlies in addition to entering the Northumberland Senior Cup - almost inevitably being eliminated from the latter at the first time of asking.
