We Said

Tommy Craig told waiting journalists after the match:

"It was a good all-round performance, we dominated the game from start to finish. Bobby Robson came in to see the players at half time when we were two goals up, and told the lads to keep going. We did that and i'm also delighted we kept our first clean sheet of the season."

Substitute Pedro Dimas scored a 15 minute second half hat-trick in front of Bobby Robson at Durham's New Ferens Park on Thursday night.

The scoring began after 15 minutes when ex-mackem Richard Ord bizarrely put through his own goal to give us the lead. Jamie McClen crossed from the left and the ball hit Ord's hand before it trickled in at the far post. A Diego Gavilan shot made it 2-0 after 37 minutes to give Tommy Craig's side a two-goal advantage at the break.

Dimas got his first midway through the second half with a header and he followed that with a shot just four minutes later to make it 4-0. Dimas then completed his hat-trick after 82 minutes with another shot (after Offiong's attempt bounced back off the home 'keeper) to give the stiffs their biggest win of the pre-season so far.

The usual kind hospitality was in evidence at Durham, along with the well-tended (but mackem funded) pitch. However, club officials were very disappointed with the low turn out - the equivalent game had attracted 1,500 spectators last season.
