We Said

Obviously gutted by the news that NUFC.com had missed the game in order to get over to Troyes, coach Tommy Craig put a brave face on things and said:

"It was a very good exercise for us and despite the winning margin, Workington always give us a good game. We played some fabulous football and I was very pleased with our passing game."

Tommy Craig's Reserves entertained a healthy crowd in Cumbria with an impressive display at Borough Park. Colin McMenamin notched another two pre-season goals, as did Jamie Coppinger with Richard Offiong also scoring again on his step-up to the stiffs. It also marked the return of Andy O'Brien on his way back from injury.

However, it was Cumbrian-born Stuart Green who completed the victory in style with a last minute free-kick bent over the wall.

McMenamin opened the scoring after just three minutes and two more first half goals from Coppinger (14 & 45 minutes) gave United a 3-0 interval lead.

McMenamin got his second after 56 minutes and Offiong made it 5-0 with twenty minutes remaining. It was then left to Stuey Green to round-off the victory with his late free-kick.

Many thanks to Ian Green for the coverage, mercifully free of bias despite his relationship to the scorer of our 6th goal...
