A 2-1 defeat of Manchester United at a damp Kingston Park brought our
Premier Reserve League home programme to a close on Monday evening.

To misquote Ronnie Barker in "Open All Hours", it's been a funny old season.

On the one hand we've struggled to find any form or consistency, resulting
in a lowly league position, but a number of reserve players have graduated
to the senior ranks from the 12 different nationalities fielded in this
campaign.

The visit of the Mackems in September saw well over 2,500 spectators, but a run of only one win in seven had seen this diminish to a hardy 400 by the time Everton came north in March.

However, while coach Tommy Craig has been frustrated by lapses that have cost points, he can reflect that he's steered Steve Caldwell, Shola Ameobi, Bryan Kerr and James Coppinger to Premiership debuts, with Stuart Green and Gary Caldwell well on the way.

Not a bad season's work...
