Experienced United followers expected nothing more than the miserable defeat we got at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday.

Not just because of the interminable London hoodoo but because this club has always been a master at the art of flattering to deceive.

The Ronnie Radford Hereford goal is as tiresome as the hoodoo talk but few know that the following week we went to Old Trafford and won. The same pattern as last week, except in reverse.

So where are the cracks that we can't seem to paper over? Well, the full back positions seem to be debated regularly.

Barton got the nod over Griffin, which doesn't seem to be a purely footballing decision, Quinn was awful against the might of Brentford, Elliott uninspiring and Irish full back Hughes crocked.

Maybe the time has come for Bernard to be blooded in an all-French left flank, or for Bobby to ask for a bit more of Douggie's £100 million.
